This place is my parents favorite dim sum restaurant to take relatives. Its clean, shiny, and the staff are very friendly. For the most part, the food is really good. This place serves pretty tasty dim sum and an appetizing dinner. For their dinner banquets, its an impressive menu spread. They will also wall off a part of the restaurant for your parties privacy. However, I cant give this place 5 stars. The food here is extremely salty. I felt myself blow up like a ballon. My stomach was not happy. Aside the food being very salty, I had 3 dishes on my last visit that were bad. One was a plate of tsu mai( My favorite dish FYI ). One of the servings tasted as if it wasn't cooked all the way. Than, my parents go the chicken feet that tasted rancid. Finally, we got a plate of noodles with lobster. The noodles were delicious but the lobster tasted as if it wasn't cleaned. Hands down THE worst dining experience of my life! We didn't get our order till lunch time! They kept pushing back our order that we've repeatedly had to remind them about over 10x! We even complained to the manager, WHO DIDNT DO JACK SHIT. Once everything came out we've already filled up on our water and tea as well as our ruined appetites. My friends and I changed up the scenery and had dim sum here instead of our usual (Ocean Delight on Monterey). We beat the lunch crowded by maybe 30 minutes or so, so we were seated as soon as we walked in. Once seated, we noticed a plate short. We thought they were going to grab one for us, but instead we had to ask. We also had to ask for our waters and tea (a little after we began eating). By now the restaurant was a little more crowded. The food carts were going to all the larger parties and barely hitting our table of 6 people. We were surprised because we were seated by the kitchen where they enter and exit too! Even when we got their attention if someone else closer were to call them, the ladies would serve that table before coming to us. So the wait for the food was kind of ridiculous. We probably had 2-3 moments of sitting there without anything to eat, because we had already finished our single plate of food before another cart would decide to come over to us. Besides the service, the food was okay. Nothing stood out and made me want to come back to this place. Not to say the food wasn't good. So if you're in the area, I would still suggest this place, but if you're willing to drive, I'd recommend two other places. One in San Jose and another in Cupertino. I had heard so much about it, so we went there on Sunday... Yaay. Surprisingly for four of us, got the table immediately. But everything else went downhill from there. I thought there was a conspiracy, the stuff we wanted would go by the next table, but as that cart turned the corner, it would be all finished. We had to order few dishes, since they never seem to come by, which of course is a more expensive than the ones on the cart. The food was ok, nothing exciting. The overall attitude of the staff was, 'Did you have to come here on Sunday?' If we did not take some of the more expensive items that they were pushing, they would frown on us. And some of the entrees were down right cold. Will I go there again.... well, only with someone who knows the owner of that place. Then the chances of getting better food and treatment would improve. And yes if they are paying for it, since I won't. The bakery next door was fabulous, so the trip was not all wasted. read more

I admit it. I am super biased. I had my wedding banquet here and everything went off without any problems. Jack, the events manager, is a very nice guy. He will help try to accommodate every request he can. The food for the dinner banquet was great. It was hot and tasted good. Sometimes cooking for 200-300 people, some food gets cold or tastes more bland then if you just ate the same plate for a small dinner. I have to say the dinner went smoothly and Jack was able to accommodate us by rushing dinner 20 minutes earlier then planned. For a Chinese Wedding, we started ON TIME, not the typical 45 minutes or 1 hour delay most couples are forced to because their 3rd aunt decided to show up at 8:00 instead of 7:00. Since we started early, dinner was over at 9:30 which left lots of time for dancing and the DJ to dim the lights. Because everyone wasn't so exhausted after dinner (of course you would be tired if dinner finished at 10:45) we all had a good time dancing. I would say the Dim Sum is good here but the Mayflower in Union City tastes better. We have had dim sum at both locations several times. It just seems the food is hotter (temperaturewise) and tastier in the UC location. All in all, its a good place to have a family dinner if there isn't closed due to a wedding and a reliable place for dim sum. If you are thinking about having your wedding here, the floor plan of the restaurant is quite good and no one feels out of place or feels like they are sitting around the corner or behind a pole with 20-30 tables. The dining room is wide so everyone has a good seat in their banquest configurations. Also, they added a projector and screen and have a dance floor. The changing room is decent size as I also changed into a different outfit as well. Most guys don't but I had a tradtional chinese outfit and when my wife changed into the kwa, I changed into the traditional wedding jacket to match. "Here comes the bride" I was here for my cousins wedding. I first experienced it when I went to the tasting for the wedding. I thought it was ehh then... But after this weekend (really big fan of fish), the fish that was cooked for more than 400 people turned out even better than the one for 10 people. Not sure what happened at the tasting, but the one at the wedding was delicious! Oh and of course the duck, these were the only two items I really sat down for. The rest of the night, I was in charge of the alcohol(BEER/REMY). When the cooler was getting empty of beer, I had to restock. Good thing I didn't have to go buy the remy, I had someone else go do that for me. I was too busy trying to get everyone to drink with me. Really.. 1.5 hour wait when I made reservations. I was totally disappointed. I've been here multiple times and they normally don't have a wait as such, but that just goes to show how sloppy they are at managing their business and reservations. Just on that point alone, I don't believe I would want to come back again. After our long excruciating wait, we were finally seated. Our party of four were all very agitated. We have studied the menu long n hard while we watched the clock ticked but sad to say the waiter failed to recognize that we were ready to order as soon as we were seated. When he finally came around we take our order. Food did come relatively quickly. I was unimpressed by the quality of their food. The soup we ordered was the soup of the day. It was bland and unappealing. The hot plate beef was salty and not peppery. The garlic veggie we ordered was not too bad, but it was just like any other restaurant. What is a Sunday lunch w/o dim sum? I got lucky with the parking and found one the second I drove into the lot. (hint: parking reeks in this plaza) It was a good 30 minutes wait for the 5 of us. Luckily I was playing with my friends' cute baby and time passed by smoothly. We ordered the typical stuff at Dim Sum, but one dish that was a tad unusual is the mango shrimp. Not a bad dish. I also could not find my favorite white radish cake, and hence cannot give the restaurant maximum stars. Quality of food overall was good, but not the best dim sum that I've had. The bill came out to $53 with tax/tip. So that's around $13 for the adults (I didn't make the baby pay). Not bad for a Sunday lunch with my buddies. read more

Came here with a friend at around 10:45am on a Saturday. No wait. Was a little worried that maybe something happened that we didn't know because we didn't have to wait. But, no worries as we had very good dim sum. My friend wanted the cart experience so thought to take him here. We enjoyed it and were thoroughly filled. As to price, it seemed a little on the high side (but my friend was in the area for an interview so he could expense a portion of it so it was all good :)) I bumped my rating to 4 stars because the "egg custard tart" was really, really good (or just hit the spot perfectly). I like the other Mayflower in Milpitas better... the one in the other asian plaza near Scott Creek Rd. This one's atmosphere doesn't have as much natural light, which really sets the surroundings for me during dim sum, and they have a terrible selection of dim sum dishes.. they didn't even have the stuffed taro, and that's my favorite... AND it is totally a dim sum staple :( Their tables were also REALLY weird when we went... I suspect they were part of those circle tables that they just took apart. They weren't even square! My review is based only on DimSum - have never been here for dinner. Like any other Dim Sum restaurant - it will be busy around brunch hours on weekends (especially Sunday). So don't expect to get seated immediately. I came here on Sunday around 1PM, it was super packed...people waiting outside even. The hostess informed me a table for 2 would only be about 15 minutes - I was expecting to wait 45min! This place was not good. The food gavel a tummy ache for the whole next day because it was so oily. I have a sensitive stomach and can not tolerate oily foods well. If you can, then good for you. We went during Chinese New Year and they were busy!!! The spoon of someone on our table was so new that the price tag hasn't been taken off. The dim sum here is really good, and the place is filled with asian's - which I know is a good sign when you're attracting clientele the same culture as the origin of the food; or at least close to eat. Any way... I would totally go back on a splurge. I tasted many items that included the main dim sum staples in addition to a duck dish and a lobster pasta dish which were both superb. Super popular restaurant! Came here once for dinner and once for dim sum on a weekend. Both times I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food despite a mere three star evaluation on yelp. Dim sum - great selection of dishes, very decent qualities, especially chicken feet! So juicy and flavorful. They have a nice private area on the side, less noisy than the main dining area. Dinner - seafood heavy menu, Cantonese, large portions, well seasoned and fresh seafood dishes. No wonder there's always quite a bit of a line outside. This place is legit! read more

My friend and I arrived around 10:30am and were seated right away, which is actually rare for Cantonese dim sum spots. By the time we left, there was a huge crowd of people waiting to be seated, so definitely get there early. I love dim sum and was able to eat some of my favorite dishes here. Decent dim sum, reasonable prices... nothing too special. The interior of the restaurant is very nicely decorated, though (unlike a large share of Chinese restaurants); no sense of shabbiness here. I especially like the wall of fish tanks... makes me hungry. One of their "large" dimsum items that I like has eggplant and shrimp on top. And I love chicken feet... and rice wrapper w/ shrimp (which are both pretty ordinary dim sum items). I used to LOVE their "shark fin dumpling soup", which is a large dumpling (I don't know if they actually have shark fin in it) that comes sitting in an individual container filled with a savory broth. The first rule in dim sum, is don't go just anywhere. Good dim sum is light, tasty, and yummy. Bad dim sum is greesy, over cooked, often rubbery and gross. Mayflower is the former. My good friend taught us about the Mayflower about 8 months ago, and we returned for Sunday dim sum brunch last weekend. Lynn says that you know it's a good dim sum place if its (A) busy, and (B) filled with Asian people. The less English they speak, she says, the better. I find it is comical, but true. The Mayflower seems to be extremely popular- we had to wait a good 30-40 minutes on Sunday to be seated. The actual dining room is large, busy, and loud. I think I read on citysearch that it seats 200+ people. Despite this fact, or perhaps because of it, the dim sum is excellent. We had the typical dim sum meal, including dumplings, shaomai, shrimp rice noodle roll, dakai, etc. As a side note, I can't comment on the dinner items at Mayflower besides this: the rich couple at the next table over ordered a very tasty and expensive looking seafood platter, but they seemed to only pick at it (because they are rich? or because it was not good?). As opposed to other dim sum joints I've been to in the past, the wait staff here is especially helpful and pleasant. I highly recommend Mayflower. read more

This place has excellent dim sum during lunch time. I love their ha gao and shu mai... and their fried shrimp dumpling thingie (not too oily!). And their pea shoots, mm! The mango pudding is really light and fresh. The sticky rice is amazing (the one wrapped in green leaves). Okay, after the third time eating there and after having tried a few other dim sum places, I have to up my rating to 5 stars from 4. This is now my favorite dim sum place. Although, I still don't like that there are a few pushy and slightly rude waiters and that they they ran out of the yummy, popular ha gao and shumai one time (30 minute wait!), it still doesn't matter. The food is just TOO GOOD. And again, the fried shrimp dumpling-shaped thingies are SO GOOD. Even though they are deep-fried, they are light and crispy... not too oily, at all. First off, the Mayflower Restaurants are a Bay Area Chain. There is one in Milbrae (Flower Lounge), San Francisco, Milpitas and in Concord (I think). I've been here for banquet style dinners, family style dinners and eating with friends. Each time I go to one of these places, its different. The variety never changes but I think HK Lounge in Milbrae is the best. Hands down. Food? *1 star* eh... That's all I can really say. A bit too greasy and you can taste the Canola or Palm Seed oil for some dishes. Service? *2 stars* Eh...its ok. Not as great as San Francisco or the Milbrae branches. When its busy, it sucks and when its not busy, it still sucks. The waiters just walk right past you and pretend not to notice. I wanted to order some food dammit! Sound? We had both dinner and dim sum here. The dim sum was okay. I've definitely had better but it wasn't terrible. The price was average for dim sum. Dinner was not very good. The short ribs were smothered in salt and pepper and the pan fried noodle dish was over-fried. Other items were okay or not very good. I used to think this place was decent for dim sum. The service had consistently gotten worse over the years, but the taste wasn't so bad. But then I was dragged here for dinner the other night, and I don't think I'll be having Cantonese food for awhile. I have no words for how horrible and overpriced it was. Food was loaded with MSG, lettuce wraps were inedible and salty, duck was disgusting, the "special rice" was basically the burnt rice you scrape off the bottom of your rice cooker with some soy sauce drizzled over it, Chinese sausage tasted like dirty tire rubber soaked in grease... the list goes on. The food was ok, the atmosphere & service was bad = not worth it. There were only a couple types of dishes I enjoyed (sticky rice, shrimp and pork shumai), but even those weren't anything special. The fried rice was terrible. Some of the ladies are pushy/rude- they just put plates on our table and started stamping away. It was way too crowded also. Our party of 12 made a reservation, but we ended up sitting around one round table, squished arm-to-arm. They need to figure out a better way to manage their wait list because everyone was just crowded in the lobby area, cramped, waiting for their numbers to be called. read more

And may good health be with you if you tried the tofu dessert- that stuff was sour! I've been coming here for years now and I have to say, its had better days. The atmosphere isn't too bad and the staff are friendly enough but ugh, if you're here in hopes of finding good dim sum, save yourself the wait time and just go to Ranch 99 for their dim sum. I've seriously never been to a place where I left without even wanting to pack leftovers or wanting to finish whatever is left- WHAT HAPPENED MAYFLOWER? WHY ARE YOU SO TERRIBLE?! Love this restaurant. I went there with my team at work. We ordered dim sum. I think it is the best dim sum I've ever had!! I don't eat dim sum very much but this was great!! It is very chinese style. The waiters walk around, serve dim sum so you could have a quick meal and go. The price is not bad too! Maybe we came at a bad time.. (12pm on a Sunday) ..but the service here was just awful. Took about 30 mins to get seated. Dim Sum is suppose to be a quick service type place. We didn't get our first plates til 10 Mins after we were seated. We asked for water and we got a pissed off look from the waiters. Their carts seem to favor or start at one side of the restaurant all the time..so if your sitting on the opposite end you end up getting leftovers. We had to actually order siomai because they didn't have any in the carts (that is like the #1 thing people order!) And again when we ordered we got such a disapproving look. As for food quality.. I live in Socal and we have pretty bomb dim sum so the quality here was not that great. Mixed with the service and I'm def. not impressed. Theres better out there for sure. read more

Disclaimer: I do not like dim sum. At all. I'll never understand the appeal of cuisine that requires the liberal use of extra sauces to be palatable. But I digress. Husband loves dim sum, so I'll occasionally accompany him while he attempts to convert me to the dark side. I try a few things and end up reasserting I still don't like it. Mayflower is the lowest point of my dim sum adventures thus far. We were seated along the farthest wall so when any carts started to approach, they were picked clean. That means we sat for 20 minutes with no offerings at all. I ended up having mango shrimp, the rice dumplings with spinach and mushroom, shrimp egg rolls, and one baked pineapple bun. Near the end, we were looking for the pineapple baked custard buns and ended up trying to order some. They came... 15 mins later. Several hours after we left, my stomach began to ache terribly. I'm feeling ill as I'm writing this. This'll be my last dim sum adventure for awhile. Edit: My husband's sick too. Way to go, this is his first experience getting ill after dim sum. read more

I really enjoyed my lunch special: seafood, rice, soup, desert .. $9.75 They charged $1.20/ EA for tea. In itself.. not a big deal. ... The bad stuff: -- very aggressive wait staff foisting dim sum -- they got the order wrong -- and insisted that it was right -- quite disorganized ... Personally I would go back. I've gone here a couple of times for dim sum and each time this place would satisfy my craving. Today, it was a whole other story. The experience was awful and the carts weren't consistently coming around as we hoped. We sat for a good 10 minutes before even 1 cart came by. I am sure all of the employees are working hard trying to feed everyone, but I rather go somewhere else where they can provide us with better customer service. Just to give them the benefit of the doubt, Saturday afternoons would be safe to go for dim sum but I would avoid Sundays!!! I've never been during the week so I can't speak towards that, but my experience was def better on a Saturday. The food itself tasted fine. The dim sum variety is much larger than other establishments, but waiting 45 minutes was no longer worth it. Although they do have a take-out only section, the lines there can also be chaotic. I'm not sure why I'm giving this place a 3 star rating. I mean, the food's good, the decor is really nice, and the location is decent as well. It must be the service. I suppose it's because they have such a large operation to run, with a lot of people around at lunch time; they must move quick. The only detracting factor in any dim sum place for me is the delivery of goods. The frequency of the carts coming to your table. Sometimes they pass you and you're left wondering just what the heck that cart was carrying. I don't like missing out. For the most part though, the carts are a plenty and food is hot and fresh. Slightly overpriced. And I think they charge for hot tea. A minus. Personally, I'd prefer less decor and more dim sum for my money. We came here for lunch on Wednesday. We were seated relatively fast considering we arrived at 12:30 so that was nice. But we haven't even sat down yet (just pulling out our chairs) when 3 different carts came and started opening their trays and shouting out what they have. By the time we sat down, we had 7 different types of dim sum ready for consumption. A bit aggressive but ok I guess considering we were pretty hungry. Most of the dim sum was alright but we all noticed it wasn't hot. And in fact, most of the dishes were luke warm to room temperature, which doesn't go so well for dim sum. The food alone was 2 stars. The reason why I gave it a 1 star was when the bill came it, they charged us a 18% gratuity charge!!! I asked about this and he said it was because we had 6 people. What?!? We had 5 adults and 1 toddler (3 years old). I pointed this out to him and he grabbed the check and mumbled 'she must have charged it like that and that's how we do it' and immediately walked off with it. I thought it was very rude to charge us 18% service charge during lunch and especially counting a toddler that ate off my plate as an adult. That left a very bad taste in my mouth and our family vowed never to return. There are lot better places around the area for much better quality of dim sum and a more reasonable price range. None of us walked out of that place saying how full we were but the bill was $75. Damn 18% service fees I tell you! Unbelievable! read more
