A few days ago I noticed that on one of our faucets, if I closed the hot water side too fast there was a little bit of a rattle under the house. I thought I could handle it myself after asking Perplexity what it could be and installed a water arrestor. That didn't help so I thought, maybe it could be the strapping. I reached out to Handy Plumbing Man on a Saturday and they were quick to respond that they could have someone there on Monday. Monday morning came and their technician, Miguel, went down and found that one of the pipes they had worked on wasn't totally secured. No problem, mistakes happen. He said he'd call the office to get technicians over to check the strapping on the work below. I had to go into work but did get a message from them later on that day to see if they could get someone over the same day (Monday) to fix it. This is more on me that I had already gone into work, but they said they could do tomorrow morning at 8am. The guys, Carlos and Baltazar, came bright and early, went under the house and secured the pipe and then some. Awesome company!

It took two days to remove a clog. On day one, they refused to snake it, insisting on using a…read morecamera and then flushing it with high pressure. Instead of clearing the line, they pushed the clog out past a single unit, so it affected 7 units, then left for the day. When they came back, they tried to upsell me on replacing the clogged pipe for $25k. When I balked at the price, they said they gave me the wrong price, then went down to $22k, then $18k, then I said the most I could pay was $15k, and they agreed. Once they thought I was going to pay for that big job, they finally agreed to use the snake to remove the clog, which is what I called them out for in the first place. Needless to say, I will not be working with them again. FYI: The worker, Chris, was great. It's the company management I have a problem with. In the end, I got charged for using the camera, flushing, and snaking--and had to put tenants up in a hotel for the night, which could have been avoided if they had simply snaked the line as I asked them to.

The short review is this: Martin is a wizard! He sucked a 2 lb. Piece of metal out of my main line…read morewith a shop vac, saving me thousands of dollars in repair costs! The details: I called Martin after a clog removal by another company went sideways (probably the topic of a no star review in the future). The first company identified where the problem was, but also caused a spill of sewage inside the house, then quoted me $5k to dig up the pipe and really fix the problem. To no one's surprise, I wasn't happy. So I called AHJ for a second opinion, and Martin answered the call. He spent a good 20 minutes on the phone, asking me detailed questions about the problem, and explaining my options (the other company did none of that). He made no guarantees, but said he thought he could solve the problem, so I asked him to have a look. He was at my house within 3 hours. The line had two objects stuck inside, causing backups. Martin worked to jet out one of the objects out, then used a camera to inspect the entire 80 ft. length of the pipe. The second object was still there, though, and it looked like digging was the only option. However, this is where the real magic happened! The second object was about 12 ft from the clean out, and it was not budging. Martin, however, thinks outside the box. He got out a large shop vac and stuffed the hose down the line. With the help of his camera he aligned the end of the hose with the obstruction and started up the vacuum. It took a while and was not easy work, but Martin eventually pulled out a 8" long, 2 lb. solid steel spring! That's no exaggeration (How that got in there I'll never know). It was Amazing! He also documented everything with his camera and thoroughly explained everything that we could see. So, I now know all about the good, and the bad, of my main sewer line, should any future problem arise. Thank you, Martin, for the exceptional service!

The guy I spoke to quoted me a reasonable-sounding price for a faucet replacement, so I went ahead and booked for the next day. I told him that I'd ordered a faucet from Amazon to be delivered by 8 AM, so they should maybe come in the afternoon. He said "No problem, we won't get there until 9 or 9:30 AM anyway." Next day, 9:30 AM, I message asking for an ETA. The response is "oh, we were waiting for confirmation that the faucet was delivered." That's interesting, because they never said they needed confirmation, but fine - I'll give it to you now. At 11:30 AM, I get a text saying "I should be there within the hour." At 12:55, I respond asking for an ETA, and get told that they were waiting for confirmation AGAIN, and that because they didn't get it they cannot schedule me for today, with a long message about "driving all the way to the city." I understand wanting confirmation - it would be pretty annoying to travel for a job, only to be sent back because the customer isn't available. But I wasn't asked for confirmation once by either employee who spoke to me, and every other plumber I've ever hired has not required confirmation, either. More importantly, I don't appreciate being spoken to as if it's my fault that I didn't magically understand that they needed something that was never once requested. (And don't get me started about "all the way to the city" - if jobs in a given location are too inconvenient, don't bid for them.) A few minutes ago, I booked with a competitor who offers same-day service, confirmed my availability while I was on the phone with them, and said THEY will send ME a confirmation when they're en route. They completed both a cast-iron trench replacement along my house and a trenchless replacement in my front yard in one day. They were on time, placed tarps to protect property and landscaping of my house and my neighbor. They worked quietly and efficiently. During excavation, Christian determined that there was significant root intrusion in a pipe crossing the yard from the storm downspouts on the opposite side of the house. After speaking with Jason about the most cost effective options, the roots were mechanically removed and connections were established to the downspouts to assure access in the future. Christian's crew then closed up the trench and left the premises absolutely immaculate, to the astonishment of me and my neighbor. The company that reconnected my irrigation was also impressed.
