We've tried Mazatlan a few times now. Sometimes just for drinks and sometimes for more real food. After a few tries, we must say that there are much better choices. Last night, it was Patron margaritas which were served in water glasses and tasted over-mixed and under-Patron'd. The lime/tart freshness we had experienced in past visits while sitting at the bar was not there. My wife had the bean burrito and chile relleno and I had the Jorge's Special (chile relleno, chili cheese burrito, and a tamale). The chile relleno's were not fresh, were full of gloppy cheese and grease and were not even edible. The burritos, while having fresh tortillas, were filled with bland and greasy ingredients. Both of our entrees were covered with a non-decript, bland red sauce. Overall, not a good showing and we've decided despite all of the coupons you see for Mazatlan in the local magazines, it's not worth the underwhelming experience and the gastric distress. read more

Inconsistent. Sometimes when we are there the service and food is great, other times we are begging for the basics and the food is average. We have gotten fajitas, tacos, enchiladas and other dishes. I originally gave Mazatlan a so-so rating in 2010, but writing this in 2011 I do have to say things have much improved! The food is good, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is great! We live within walking distance so we stop by fairly often, and whether it's a full meal (which is big!) or just some margaritas (with chips and salsa) at the bar, the people are friendly and the atmosphere is good. They've also got outdoor dining if the weather is nice. (And since it's Wisconsin, you've got nearly 3 weeks of nice weather per year!) We ate here on a Friday evening and really enjoyed it. Had a very short wait for a table, a few minutes. The atmosphere is very good, bright colors with lots of energy but not too noisy. The service was prompt and very friendly, and food was excellent. I disagree with the review that said sauces are canned. I had a white sauce on my dish that I guarantee you was made there. Great food horrible service. They just lost a repeat customer. I have always ignored the fact that they get my order wrong because the food is good but to be treated poorly on top of that is not okay. I trying to order lunch for my team and got hung up on not once but twice. I was hung up on because the guy did not understand me so he just hangs up. He does not know the menu or just does not understand English. I called back to speak with the manager or someone else and he hangs up again. We've been to Mazatlan twice now and both times have been great. The wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive, the margaritas are big and strong, the portions are generous, the food is delicious, and the prices seem right. I had the veggie fajitas and my husband had El Combo, both were fantastic. The chips and salsa were fresh and the staff was on top of refilling them. My favorite place in downtown Delafield! Of all the restaurants located in Delafield, this is the place I most often visit! I love their chicken specialty entrees. So fresh and it tastes so good with just the perfect amount of spiciness! The salsa is also chunky and very fresh tasting. I always find myself eating way too many chips because of it. The service is always fast and the wait staff is always very friendly. My family always has to get their legendary margaritas when we're there. All-around Mazatlan is the perfect Mexican restaurant. We frequent Mazatlan about once a month, it is good Mexican grub with a great outdoor patio. Anna and her husband are the super friendly owners who are constantly hustling to ensure their customers receive fast and friendly service. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that the generally only run their margarita machines on the weekends. I am a big fan of their frozen margs but only out of the machine, they aren't as good when they come from the blender. Try Mazatlan in Delafield, you won't be disappointed!! read more

This place has a fun, colorful vibe and tasty, strong margaritas. The main entrees can be very good, but most of the standard fare like the tacos, enchiladas, etc. are pretty bland in my opinion. My biggest complaint with this place is their tendency to up-sell, sometimes without asking. If you want a 'normal' size of anything you need to be very specific or you'll end up with a 24 oz beer or margarita or a $13 side of guac. It's a fun place though and I keep going back. read more

I like going here for lunch because of their lunch prices and portion sizes. The lunch portions are small, which helps combat the desire for a post lunch nap when returning to the office. Their lunch service is also VERY quick (almost too quick...). The food itself is ok. I haven't had anything I disliked, but it wasn't spectacular either. Love everything about Mazatlan. We are regulars and the staff seems to be a big family or a group of a few very close family. They have worked to continue restoring things. You should have seen it in the beginning stages compared to now! Outdoor seating available. Great margaritas and I have loved every meal I've ordered here (quesadillas - steak and just cheese, enchiladas, chimichangas, tacos and guac). Even comes with free chips and it's super fast service! If ever we have had a mistaken order (which I honestly don't remember happening..) they're always so willing to make it better and they're very hardworking and want to be the best servers they can be. We have been back to Mazatlan 2 times since I left my review. I'm happy to report that they may have been having a bad day back in September of 2013. I hadn't been there since they expanded...it's a fun environment. The food, however, starting with the chips, was so disappointing. I ordered a combination plate with Chile Relleno and Chimichanga. The food was spicier than I remembered and portions small. The Chimichanga was more like a folded tortilla with a little bit of something in it. The beans were particularly bad - pureed and soupy. I've lived in delafield for ten years and this is by far one of my favorite places. I live close so I can just walk here. I always get the tacos because they're cheap and delicious. They give you free chips and salsa and the salsa is fantastic. During the summer they open up the outside eating area which is really nice. They just redid the bar out there too! read more

Solid Mexican food and drinks. Most of the food we've ordered hasn't blown us away like some Mexican joints, but it's always satisfying. The queso fundido is awesome if you like yours hilariously greasy, like I do. Also, you can ask for the large tableside guacamole that isn't on the menu; it's made fresh and very high quality. They used to have $3.99 happy hour margaritas, but we went there last week and the waiter said they did away with that special, which is pretty disappointing. The house margaritas are a bit overpriced when not on special. The service is always pleasant, and we never leave unhappy. There are just better Mexican restaurants in the area at this point. It feels like Mazatlan is still figuring things out, so I figure it'll only improve, and we'll try it again at some point. read more

We've been on the look out for a good mexican restaurant since moving here from the Chicago area. First off we went to the Mazatlan in Oconomowoc. So glad we tried this place. The atmosphere was fun, chips and salsa were very good. My husband ordered one of the combo meals and said it was really tasty and I had the Tostada's which were good too. Do you have a negative 5 rating? This place is horrendous! I live in Delafield and believe in supporting our local businesses, but this one I have tried numerous times over the past four (?) years now and I can't do it anymore. The food is bland, the shrimp is fishy and the margies are from a mix. The owners are from Mexico and I can out cook them with a blindfold on. They need to try using something called fresh ingredients and possibly utilize the kitchen rather than what appears to be reheating pre-made food. I heard they have expanded to three locations and I am sooo perplexed that people continue to eat there. Everyone I know does not eat at this restaurant so who is keeping this place open?? read more

Lotsa healthy and vegetarian options which is sorta rare for Mexican. Our server Gerardo was very nice and let us practice our Spanish. Do not eat at Mazatlan to food and service is terrible. The chips are stale and the vegetables still frozen. Our waiter never came back to check on the food. The nachos were a joke - the chips were stale, the cheese was liquid and the only other topping was meat. We asked for appetizer plates and got bowls. Took my girlfriend for a birthday dinner as I heard good things. The service was excellent including a special dessert for her birthday including singing to her. The food sadly was not up to par though. Chips and salsa were good, but my chimichinga had tough beef and was loaded with onions.
