If You're reading this because you're debating dropping into Mazatlan for dinner, DONT. It. Was. Terrible. The service was horrid. The food was disgusting. I got the taco plate with shredded beef and corn tortillas. When they came, they were full size tortillas, corn, and not doubled up. They were soggy and sloppy from the grease from the meat. They practically fell apart. There was not much meat, maybe 1/2 tsp in the last taco. The tortillas just all sorta fell apart because it was so greasy. It looked a lot more like someone dropped a pile of fixings on the plate and not like something presentable. You couldn't even pick up the taco. The rice was SOGGY and mushy. The quesadilla. The plate came and it looked like someone threw up on the plate. It was SO greasy from the meat. Bright orange slop all over. It had mushrooms in it? Mushrooms in a quesadilla? Maybe they're trying to stretch the meal? So yes , the food was terrible. The service was terrible. Skip it, if you want a meal equal to the service and quality, Taco Bell is a quarter mile up the road and you'll get the same thing, maybe even better! Btw, even the sauce was watery? How the heck do you mess up salsa? I usually check the reviews, but tonight, I decided to be crazy and just stop in somewhere. I'm dumb. Never again. read more

Excellent food, amazingly friendly staff. One of our go-to places. Whether you want a table for one or a party of 20, they will provide you with excellent service and great food. I recommend the Grande Margarita and Pollo en Mole. Very yummy. read more

haven't eaten here in years and it's definitely gone downhill. They won't give you chips until you order and it says in the menu chip refills cost $1.00. I actually would've been okay with paying the $1.00 but they didn't even offer more until we were waiting for the check. I've never heard of a Mexican restaurant charging for chip refills. Then 2.99 for a fountain soda and you don't even get free refills. I am not one that is normally concerned with the 1.00 here or 1.00 there but it's the principal. Service wasn't great and food was pretty bland I'm pretty sure they are adding water to save more money. next time I'll go to El Toro on canyon instead. read more

You know what... I feel like this place exceeded my expectations. Easy parking, quick check in and to our table immediately. Waiter was quick and pleasant. Made it comfortable. Busy Friday night in Puyallup. Food was better than I expected. Really awesome Fajitas. Get the chicken, steak and shrimp combo fajitas. Just got denied access because we couldn't provide them with a service dog license that by the way doesn't exist. But this is a fully train 5 year old vested service dog who patiently waited while we tried to explain they were breaking the law. Didn't matter they refused to seat our party of 10. So we went next door to Outback and we encourage everyone to do the same. The disrespect shown for a disabled person whose life depends on this service dog was just off the scale. The guac, food, and margaritas were great. But I was highly disappointed in our waitress/service. The waitress was oddly aggressive with our group of 10, and would roll her eyes when we would ask for 1 more min to look at the menu. We also made a reservation 1 week ago, but when we arrived, they did not have our reservation on file. Overall, the food was good, but I will not be returning. The margaritas were great, but the food was mediocre and smothered in cheese. We are new to town and will keep looking for a favorite Mexican place! I tend to judge a Mexican restaurant by its salsa and this one was almost sweet. When I asked for something spicier, I ended up with tapatio. On to the next one! read more

We usually eat here, at least for 7 years since we moved to Puyallup. We won't patronize this restaurant again. I called to reserve banquet room for a party. I was told that our reservation was on the books. When I confirmed a month before and after I made invites, the manager woman said that they charged for that room and it is St Pattys day. They wanted my guests to park at safeway and me to buy a taco buffet for $16 per guest for a taco bar??? (little greedy) We ended up at Rio Blanco, where each guest picked from the menu and drank liquor 25 guests were under $500.00 Go visit Rio Blanco for your Party in Puyallup. We ate here for the first time on 02-14-17, Valentines Day. No refills on pop. We had to ask multiple times for chips and salsa before they were brought to us, and only brought to us AFTER we placed our food order. Once they brought us our food, they never stopped by again. Their food on this day, I honestly don't even remember what it was like. Although we weren't happy with their service, we figured it was Valentines Day and they were busy so we thought we'd try them again sometime when they weren't so busy. We went back on 03-02-17, and it was less busy. (Almost) the same thing: brought us our drink, NO REFILL even after we put the empty glass on the edge of the table so they could CLEARLY see it was empty; chips and salsa, we had to request them; lack of service like before; we ordered corn tortillas, they brought flour. My husbands dinner was (surprisingly) good, but the enchilada sauce on my enchilada tasted like tomatoes sauce. Although my husbands dinner was good, (to us) going out to eat and receiving good service is an important part of our meal and for the second time in a row, they failed miserably. Second time coming.. my first experience was fine, this one.. not so great.. walked in around 8pm. The waitress was pretty stern, no smile.. seemed as if she did not want to be at work.. had to ask for the chips and salsa, she told me to wait that it's coming. Food came pretty quick.. I ordered my usual chili Colorado.. a hard a dish to mess up. They burnt it! I still paid.. while sitting here writing review.. that same waitress walked up and asked if I was done tipping and tried to take my whole change back from the tab, water was never refilled.. so much more I could go on about.. but it's kinda cold in here and I feel as if I'm being rushed out by staff since I've already paid.. hope your experience is better than mines read more

10 years ago we ate here and made the choice to not come back for a specific reason. Last Wednesday we decided to give them another shot hoping that they had changed. They have not. Please understand, this is a consumer driving industry. You can't claim culture when others in that same genre of food don't do the same. I'll get to my issue in a moment. I have worked as "upper level management for a food distribution company". In other words, I served my time in the fast food industry. :-) I ordered supplies and programmed prices. Here it is. I understand full well what the cost/profit is on soda. When a fast food chain or a gas station offers a large drink for $1 they are not making a big sacrifice. At the time I did this kind of work the average drink (including cup, lid, straw, syrup and carbonation) cost roughly $0.11. A sit down restaurant that reuses cups and has no lids or straws would be less. So, to charge me nearly $3 and limit my refills says that you are cheap. For this reason and this reason only, we will not be back. P.s. The food was delicious! read more

This restaurant increases the cost of soda during happy hour to coerce you to drink. They changed their refill policy in the restaurant and when I questioned why I was charged for 2-sodas the manager came over and raised his voice and used aggressive posturing. I work very close to here but would chose to go without eating before I will come here again! read more

Service is terrible. No water served until I asked 3/4 of the way through my meal. Oil for chips was disgusting and I found a pepper top in my burrito. My virgin mojito tasted like it had chemicals in it. The burrito was overall pretty good. All veggies and beans, no cheese. If I looked hard I could find a mushroom here and there. $17 for a meal with terrible service. I know why I don't eat out often. read more

This Mazatlan is up on South Hill in Puyallup not the down new one which agree is terrible. However the South Hill location is wonderful. This was my favorite place for good Mexican years ago. Moved back after being away for several years and was excited to go back. After ordering my usual chicken fajitas I was saddened what came out. What happen to the sizzling tray of freshly cooked meat? No, instead I got medium warm chicken on a cold plate that tastes like they seasoned it after cooking it then just threw it on the plate. The portions were a fraction of what they used to be, but the prices higher. The meat got cold fast and tastes like a frozen dinner. Service was good and they kept my water full and did not charge for extra chips as they advertise, but due to the food I will not be back. read more

I typically really like this place, however, when management tries to be deceptive to their customers my opinion changes quickly. My partner and I came in this evening and looked at the Special. It was as Chicken Mole and priced at $15.29. My partner gets this meal every time, so we were excited to see there being a deal for it. When we looked at the menu it was the same price so we asked the waiter what's the point of making it "a special". He replied, "Sometimes they discount a price or there is more of it." When we got the food it was the exact same as every time she ordered it. When we received the bill I asked, "The amount was the same, and you have the same price on my bill. I don't understand." His response..."I asked and sometimes they discount or make more or they make more of it that day and do something special with it or it is more fresh".... Umm... Yeah. I am not okay with food not being fresh and I am definitely not okay with dishonesty in business practices. read more

I have been to this restaurant at least 4 times and I have to say there food is pretty good, not my favorite Mexican restaurant, but by no means a terrible restaurant, the only thing I would probably change is there chips and salsa, the chips are hit or miss and the salsa is way to watery, but the food itself has made up for me coming back, the staff had been nice to me every time, sometimes service is fast and sometimes slower, but I would expect that sometimes when dealing with restaurants and having some things out of your control, also I drive past 3 of there restaurants just to go this one and heck I live 3 blocks away from one, so that says something about this one read more

My husband and I make sure we visit this place every 2 weeks. We've been going here for over 5 years. The staff see us walk in and already get our drinks ready. I'm not able to have the regular salsa so I order mild salsa which is enchilada sauce. Since we've become regulars I don't have to ask anymore they automatically bring it out for me. Mazatlán seems to have gone downhill in recent years. I prefer Puerto Vallarta (another local restaurant) to this place, as they seem to deliver fuller flavors and more appetizing dishes. Guacamole was good but the menu showed table side guacamole but they no longer do that. Ordered a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and all the food was good. Reminds me of a car lot, I had three different people come to take my drink order and then two to take my food order all at different times but once I was severed the service ended. Had to flag down someone for a drink refill. Maybe I didn't order enough to keep the service coming. Maybe the snow last night has slowed down service here today. read more

Just stopped in to place an order to go. The first waiter looked at me as I walked in, took a step towards me and then he disappeared into the kitchen. I noticed the time and was timing how long it would be until someone appeared. Had it gotten to 3 minutes I would have left. Please note it 40 on a Thursday and there were 4 patrons in the place. Two more customers entered so perhaps that spurred the staff to come to the foyer, but who knows. I ordered Steak a la Mexicana ($16.99) to go. I asked the cashier to put the chips and salsa in the bag too. He rang up the order... $24.17!! I mentioned the meal I ordered was $16.99. He said there was a charge for the chips & salsa. I said there wouldn't be a charge if I ate in. He mumbled something unintelligible and I said "Forget it" and walked out. I will NEVER return to this restaurant and will do whatever I can to encourage others to boycott it too. So, my advice to you, go elsewhere. It's a few minutes drive but Reyna's on Garfield St, in Parkland is awesome. A small family run place-go there. read more

Excellent food n service. I miss good Mexican food so I eat it often when away. I had the taco tostada chile relleno. My bf had the burrito. Delicious and the Margaritas were strong. Wait staff was friendly and fast. Beer was good and decent price. Food was very bland and tasted like a chain restaurant. Everything needed at least salt. It's very much Americianized Mexican food. Just a heads up, EVERYTHING comes smoothered in sour cream and guac regardless of if it is listed on the menu or not. I should have known better since there was a sign near the front door that said No Outside Food or Beverages Allowed. I will not be returning. read more

This place is awesome!! From the moment my fiance and I walked though the door at 8:30pm it was great. The hostess greeted us with a huge, genuine smile. She talked to us about our day and was truly engaged. I was wearing my Applebee's Manager shirt and she made conversation about that which was awesome. The server came over immediately and offered a margarita which I ordered. The team work in this restaurant was incredible. A very nice man that was not our server came over and delivered the chips and salsa which was very tasty. The salsa was spicy and I loved that and the chips were warm and fresh. I can't say enough good things about this location. A++. Our tab was $44 and we got soo much food! We left a $10 tip! read more
