The entire process was easy from start to finish. Max and his team worked hard and handled everything smoothly. Even though we only had a one-bedroom apartment, the distance from our apartment door to the moving truck was long, and our townhome has two separate entrances on different streets, which made things more complicated. We still have storage units to empty, and I'll definitely be calling them again next week to get that scheduled. Highly recommend.

Every single time, I have relied on them heavily to pack my entire household one day and move me the next. The logistics are always seamless thanks to Jennifer, who handles the scheduling and details perfectly. On the ground, Aurelio and his team are incredible--they are extremely reliable, friendly, and always arrive right on time. What really sets them apart is their expertise with fragile items. I've watched them work, and they are masters at "moving Tetris." They wrap every piece of furniture securely in padded blankets and shrink wrap to prevent any scratches or dings. For my most delicate items--like kitchenware, electronics, and artwork--they use a meticulous multi-layer approach with high-quality packing paper and bubble wrap. They are strategic about loading the truck, ensuring heavy items are at the base and my fragile boxes are safely secured on top or in "buffer zones" so nothing shifts or gets crushed during the long drive between NorCal and SoCal.Plus, they stay organized by labeling every box with the correct room and using 'Fragile' or 'Handle with Care' stickers wherever needed. They are such hardworking, sweet people who never ask for much, though I'd highly recommend having some cold water on hand for them during those hot summer move days. I first reached out to them on Yelp and then began communicating with them over text message. They responded promptly to my messages. I reached out to at least 5 other moving companies and Little Guy's rate made the most sense, they didn't charge additional fees like an administrative fee or random fees that other companies do. They charged me 120/hr cash or 130/cc. Two movers arrived to my home right on time, it was great. In the past, other moving companies have arrived late. The two men (Mr. L and Mr. E) who assisted me with my move were friendly and professional. They did a wonderful job wrapping my furniture and making sure all my items were secure. I thought their pace was fair and efficient. Mr. L and Mr. E worked hard and it was truly appreciated. Jan 2026: I hired this moving company again and they did a great job. I had a problem with my storage unit key which made us run late but both Jennifer (admin) and Mr. A were so understanding. I felt terrible that I messed up with not having my storage key but the team was so kind. The move was quick and efficient. Both movers were friendly. One of the movers did look very young though. On a side note, their prices did increase by $10, I believe. I would 100% recommend this moving company and will be using their services in the future.

Maybe because it was just a storage move but our items in storage still are important. I will give two of the guys very nice and professional. The main guy was the one with attitude and seems to have an anger issue. I will give them the positive is that they did text me 20 minutes before arriving. Everything seemed to start okay but I already noticed no care of our items, they dropped stuff and didn't seem to care. Granted it wasn't too important, but I wouldn't trust them with anything antique or valuable. Then they said one items was a marble table and it's too heavy. We've moved 5 times and no one has said anything to us about the weight. Positive; they didn't charge us for the item. As I mentioned if any of the other 5 movers said it was a heavy item, I would've been upfront about it. But since no one else I've used in San Diego said anything, I didn't think it would be an issue. Then I saw the guy start getting angry and seemed to not care about anything bc he had to move this heavy item. He started throwing tape on the floor twice very angrily. I felt scared as a woman and thankfully my boyfriend was with me. But if you're a single lady and someone is giving you that attitude, be aware. Most of our stuff was just left in a "general" area. With no care. If we pay for 3 hours of work, the expectation would be you work 3 hours. Yet I was told "you treat us like robots" 2 hours in when we still had 1 hour of work left. I wanted some boxes moved from the garage to the room (all 1 story) maybe 10 feet away and was given an angry attitude. I'm sorry but we're paying you to do a job. So at the end of the day they got 1 free hour of pay and a tip. But I would never use them again. So unless you want to be treated rudely and scared, use anyone else. Ps Jeff/owner will probably respond and just argue about the one heavy item. I'm not disputing if I had known it was going to be considered heavy I would've said something. ---- Edit: What I can at least say is Jeff was at least professional and offered a small refund for the issue. So I upgraded the review to 2 stars.

We focused on large furniture first, got all the key items handled, then worked through the rest. Communication was constant. They asked questions, followed direction, and adjusted quickly without any pushback. The team was professional the whole time. No hesitation, even with heavy items or sending things upstairs. Everything was wrapped appropriately, not overdone, just done right. Nothing was damaged, and they were careful with walls and flooring throughout. We had discussed heavier items and drive time ahead of time, and everything was handled fairly. No surprises. I also compared pricing beforehand, and their rate of $199/hour (cash) plus the $60 truck fee was in line with what I was seeing. We ended up at about 3 hours 45 minutes total and paid $825, which felt great for the level of effort and coordination involved. Every move is different, but there were no surprises. Vladimir, Dima, Greg, and Aibek were a great team. They worked hard, communicated well, and stayed professional throughout. Overall, a hardworking, professional crew that provides solid value and takes care of your belongings. I would definitely recommend them.

I can't tell you a thing about how they'll pack and move you. But there are plenty on this page who'll give you their experiences with that stuff. What I can tell you, as someone who once worked for this company many, many, many years ago is that the owners, Pat and Tim, are two of the nicest guys I've ever worked for -- and I've worked dozens of jobs in my day. In fact, I'll just say they were, hands down, the best employers I've ever had. They really cared about the safety and welfare of their workers, and not just for insurance reasons, but because it's the right thing to do if you're a decent person, which, as I said, they are. Or were. Maybe they've changed. I haven't been in touch since a certain hair-dyeing actor was in the White House, so I can't say. (I mean the first one-- the one who dyed his black.) But rarely does life wring the decency out of people. It changes us in various other ways, but by the time decency's baked in, it's usually there for good. And as I recall, they not only cared about those who worked for them, but also about doing the job right for their customers. Again, sometimes things change over time, so I can't vouch for their current service. You'll definitely want to check out the reviews of those who've used them recently. But I just wanted to stop by here and say a couple of nice things about a couple of nice guys. They deserve it. Here's to you, Pat and Tim. I hope the world's treating you and your families well. (PS-- As I scroll down the page, I can see that a younger generation McCarthy seems to have taken the reins, or at least the social media reins. I don't know whether or not Tim and Pat are currently involved in the biz anymore, but if not, I hope that Tom takes after his dad in the way I've described above.) read more

Without a doubt, moving out of state was one of the most stressful and complicated events I have ever experienced. I should start by stating I have five combat tours in the Balkans and Middle East. First, Thomas of McCarthy Transfer in San Diego worked with me and provided an accurate and reasonable quote that was almost 50% less than two of the other moving brokers I contacted or was contacted by. This will happen once you list your place. Jose of Northpark Transfer who hauls for National Van Lines, and our truck driver, contacted me before and set everything up to be as painless as possible: times, where to park the truck, access, etc. The packing of the truck took eight hours and went off without a hitch. Jose and his crew took excellent care of our belongings and made me feel good this part of the event was over and that everything would be safe. Now for the fun part. We were unable to move-in as our house was not ready for us (still isn't). Luckliy, this happened over the holidays and Jose was able to hold our household goods until the last day that was on the contract. This was a huge relief as our only other option was to store everything. Once the day arrived to deliver our household goods, Jose coordinated with our realtor and arraigned for the delivery and inventory of everything. I cannot thank the teams at McCarthy and Northpark Transfer for making this all happen and with as little stress as possible. read more

We recently moved from San Diego, CA to Las Vegas, NV. I was a bit concerned about the horror stories we read online about moving companies. My wife found McCarthy Transfer & Storage and we worked Truda to get a professional quote. After comparing the quotes from other companies we decided to put our faith in Truda / McCarthy, and they more than delivered. Martin and Brian were awesome. They swiftly packed up all our goods, and stored our clothes in garment boxes (no need to put closet clothes in boxes.) They disassembled a massive crib and took extra care with our paintings. They used a nice inventory system that logs all items with red stickers. After weighing our goods McCarthy actually ended up lowering their initial quote which was a nice surprise. Martin was in communication the entire time during the move. He gave us updates on how far they were away. Once they showed up they laid down plastic to protect the high-traffic route up the stairs and began unloading. After watching the guys unload, mostly self-directed, I had full faith and let them finish up on their own. I signed the acceptance documents and they locked up for us. We move a lot, so we're very familiar with moving companies, and McCarthy was one of the best teams we've had so far. They handled the full pack up of our house, drove everything to our new home in a different state, and then unpacked everything once they arrived. It was a tall order for any crew, but they did it quickly, carefully, and professionally. Dave, Mario, Luis, and Enrique handled the packing and loading of our things, and I've never seen a more careful team. And even with the lengths they took to secure our items, they still finished ahead of schedule. Enrique, Alain, Danny, Diego, and Anthony drove our items to our new home, did all the unloading, and then unpacked for us too. They were so considerate of where we wanted things and made sure we weren't left with a mess of boxes at the end. Moving is never fun, and with our little ones in the house in can be absolute chaos, so we were very grateful to have McCarthy Transfer & Storage on our side. We used McCarthy twice in the last year...their movers are THE BEST! This last team Jorge, George, Sergio, and (so sorry can't remember the 4th guy's name, has an English accent) were amazing...fast, professional, polite and thorough. We asked for more descriptive labeling on the boxes this time (i.e. kitchen plates/silverware/etc.) and they obliged not only on the kitchen boxes, but all of them. They wrapped and packed everything with care and efficiency; we were skeptical that the first move went so well it might have been a fluke, but not the case...they were even better the second move (a year later). These guys know their job and do it well, packing and moving a 2 story house is no joke, and they were professionals. If you can specify the team of movers...this is the "A" team, ask for them! P.S. A friend of mine had used McCarthy Transfer in the past and just had nothing but wonderful things to say about them, so I decided to give it a go. Let me just say it was the best thing I could have done. The Company is family owned and operated they have been doing this for over 90 years! I think lol. They have things under control. Thomas made sure to answer all of my questions and then gave me advised to help save me some money, on the day of the move Micah and his team showed up on time ready to work. I have moved many other times but this time it was the least painful one yet. I am very happy that my friend (thanks Chris) told me about them. We've used McCarthy movers in the past for a local move but this time we used them for a move out of state. From the time I called and spoke with Esmeralda in the office I felt comfortable in the process. She was thorough and walked us through the entire process. She was prompt in returning my calls, generous with her time and kept us updated. She checked in with us on moving day, and on the delivery a few days later. Dave, Danny, Tyler, Luis, Anthony & Brian all worked in unison to wrap our furniture with care and load the truck. We have quite a few larger pieces as well as a piano. On delivery day Tony and Anthony along with a local mover unloaded as we accounted for each and every item. I highly would recommend McCarthy's to anyone making a move. They worked fast, were extremely courteous, wrapped all my furniture with care, and all my possessions arrived at my new home in perfect condition. I used McCarthy Transfer for a move to fort collins, colorado, including a local move into storage in san diego for two months, then delivery to fort collins. Working with Truda was a pleasure! she was very responsive to my many questions and worked with me to coordinate delivery to fort collins, which was a bit of a pain b/c i didn't have a place here when i left san diego. The estimate from McCarthy Transfer was competitive, and i selected them based on Yelp reviews, as well as talking with them. Both the local move and interstate move were done in a timely fashion and the employees at both ends were outstanding. Dealing with all issues related to selling a home can be overwhelming. My experienced and skilled mover, Martin Curiel, helped in this process significantly. His professionalism was evident when he first contacted me to arrange the day/time of initial pickup in Las Vegas. He maintained communication with me throughout his drive East to New York and ultimately arrived at my home on a record cold and icy day. I was really impressed with this moving company. Truda was very helpful on the phone. I had never moved before and she gave me lots of tips for packing. She also hooked me up with some free "used" boxes which saved me lots of $$. She said if I was struggling with the packing I could add a mover up until the day before the move- and I did. It was great to have an extra pair of hands to help with the last minute packing. The guys were very professional and nice. They were friendly even when I asked them to move furniture to different rooms after changing my mind. I have no regrets with this company and would use them again in a second. read more

This company did an excellent job at packing and loading our items for our military move to Texas. The employees, Tony, Manny, and Carlos, were very friendly and professional. You could tell they take pride in their work and paid attention to detail, making sure our fragile items were securely packed and everything was kept neat. I was referred to this company by a friend. So glad I listened and contacted them for my move to Hawaii. I received great service, phone calls were returned promptly and everyone was friendly. Thomas was always there to help with information and ideas to save money and make the move easier. Thomas even helped me find Pasha auto shippers. Currently moving to the east coast. The military has a contract (I'm assuming) with this moving company. I've heard a lot of horror stories about military moves and I am so glad we got this company. They were professional and arrived when they said they would. They moved quickly to box things up and always asked questions if they weren't 100% sure on something. Oh my gosh!!!! The most amazing moving company we have ever dealt with. They arrived on time each day and ready to work. The guys were so efficient it was mind-blowing. Amazing! !!! I highly recommend this company for any of your moving needs. I highly recommend Martin Curiel and his co worker Brian Merrill. I had to move my grandma who has dementia from San Diego to Tucson and not only were they wonderful packers and movers they were extremely empathetic to my situation. 14 moves in 26 years... easily the best packing out and loading experience. The Packers were top notch... Ruby, Karen, and Tony. Manny was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all my questions, and if he didn't have an answer right away, he would get back to me by the end of the day with the answer. I was told that even though I was proactive about the challenges at the destination, the move and charges are what they are. I wished them the best, and hopefully my negative review remains an outlier.* I want to start by saying that I explained to A Smart Move that I would be leaving a poor review based on my experience with their pricing. I was told that they understood and would share my feedback internally. I was quoted just under $2k for a 3 bedroom move 5 miles (about 15min drive) away. The destination address is on a steep hill, and I made sure to send pictures and ask questions before the move. I was told that it would be no problem at all. The move was rough. They started at 8am and were loaded by around 1pm. At 2pm (includes a lunch break) they arrived at the destination and decided on the spot not to use the driveway and to cart my items up the steep driveway by hand. It ran long, and I was told around 4pm that they would be calling an extra two people to help at a cost of $135/hr. I was told I did not have a choice in this. They arrived at 4:30pm, and we were all finished at 5:10pm. So, doing the math, we had $2,000 for the move, $135 x 2 which we will round up to $300, and I added insurance the day before for $300. Our total due should be roughly $2,600, minus the $200 deposit I already gave them, for $2,400. The evening of the move they attempted to charge me $4,109.58, which was luckily declined. Over the following day or two I had several calls with them. They explained that they were already discounting the rate, and that the weight of items moved was higher than their initial estimate and made more work. I get that estimates can be wrong, but they actually moved LESS items than what was estimated due to me doing numerous van loads before move day. Additionally, at the destination, all I asked them to do was put the furniture in the correct rooms and leave the boxes outside the garage door for me to put away. Anyway, at the end of the day, I ended up paying a total of $3,312.78. Not including the insurance costs, that's just over a grand in additional fees, or an added 50% of the total cost to move. The excess really stretched us financially. I charged it to a credit card only to be told that there would be additional fees now for credit card usage. This was right after we got a $25 credit for having to clean up trash that they left in my front yard. We didn't even mention that the bathroom in our new place was peed all over, which was a delight to clean. My wife and I have mobility issues, so we really needed the help on this move, and it was incredibly frustrating to have this experience. All of this said, the movers themselves worked extremely hard. We bought them lunch between the loading/unloading, offered water throughout the day, and tipped them in cash.

They were the best I have EVER had and believe me, I am somewhat of an expert, having moved probably 50 times. Angel and Chris were right on time, and they were what I could only call AMAZING. They were calm, professional, easy with me - ( I was still packing when they arrived ) They took kid-gloves care of every stick of my furniture, most of which are antiques. They bounded up and down two flights of stairs and made great use of time. They packed my UHaul like consummate professionals, and made it all fit like a puzzle. I could have used the larger truck, but they made it all work like it was no big deal. They followed us to our unloading destination 25 miles away and unloaded just as perfectly and professionally as they loaded. It was really a sight to behold!!! And let's not forget Chantelle in the office. She was so thorough, kind, and calm - actually understanding what I was going thru with this move... She talked me through it with gentle kindness from my first call to my last. I probably treated her like she was my therapist, and she didn't mind one bit. She UNDERSTANDS how tough this stuff can be. She takes the TIME to work with people, no matter their level of distress and confusion. And last but certainly not least; pricing. They are the most reasonable out there, hands down. I had a two pronged move, (load and unload) and they traveled 25 miles - from Del Mar to Coronado. As a comparison, my last movers took me 9 blocks, and load and unload cost the SAME. Unreal. No reason to go anywhere else but Speed Loaders, ever! They bring 100% - In every area of the experience. If ever I have the opportunity to recommend a moving company or need to use one again, (Heaven forbid!) Speed Loaders are my guys, all the way. Do not recommend. I would not hire this company again and I strongly advise against using them…read morethrough HireAHelper. They arrived 2.5 hours late, despite a confirmed start time. I was told four movers would be assigned, but only three showed up. From the start, I clearly explained which items were fragile and needed to be wrapped and secured carefully. Despite this, I repeatedly caught them loading furniture without any wrapping or protection. One of my expensive tables was dropped because a mover attempted to lift it alone instead of asking for help. Another mover was about to load the table legs into the truck without wrapping them at all, and I had to intervene and ask another worker to correct it. The entire process felt careless and disorganized. To make matters worse, after loading the truck, they left items behind. Please see the text message screenshot in this review where I asked them to return and load them intro the truck. I called Speed loaders the next day to get them to come back and the lady wouldn't pick up my phone. I had to go through HireAHelper and they wouldn't guarantee that they would return and wouldn't help in any way. They also charged me incorrectly for time. When I questioned it, I was told it would "be rounded up anyway," which felt dishonest and unprofessional. When my belongings arrived at my new destination, the movers I hired there were shocked by how poorly everything had been packed and loaded. Fragile and high-value items were not protected, were loaded last, stacked improperly, and placed without regard for weight distribution. As a result, I discovered significant damage upon unloading, including shattered mirrors, broken marble furniture, a completely destroyed TV screen, bent metal furniture, and damage to a new bicycle. Several items were beyond repair, and others require professional restoration. The aftermath has been exhausting and costly. I lost expensive furniture, spent significant time documenting damage, and incurred serious financial loss. Despite nearly $5,000 in damages, HireAHelper and SpeedLoaders are offering only $193 in reimbursement. Overall, this was a stressful and unacceptable experience from start to finish. I will be pursuing further legal action to seek proper reimbursement, and I strongly encourage others to look elsewhere.

I moved from a ground-level 1-bedroom ADU to a 4th-floor apartment, and it was no problem at all for them. They worked efficiently and handled everything safely. They brought wardrobe boxes for my hanging clothes, which was perfect since that was the last stuff I needed to get packed. They also came prepared with a variety of carts and hand trucks, which made moving everything much faster and easier. Chad wrapped my furniture in moving blankets and shrink wrap while Caleb loaded ready-to-move items onto the truck, and the whole process went quickly and smoothly. Once we were loaded, we headed straight to the new place and stayed right on schedule, exactly as quoted. Both guys were friendly and professional, and they made what could've been a stressful day feel easy and relaxed. I'd definitely recommend this team!

They didn't pay for the damage to the table. The third time was a relatively minor move to a storage facility down the street. I sent the pictures, including of the internal stairs and had a pretty in depth conversation with the scheduler including the length of the walk to the condo; he asked questions about the pictures; I described the location of the rental unit and sizing). He scheduled two movers and estimated about three hours to load the truck and another couple to unload. The night before the move, after 8 p, the owner called me to propose a third mover because they had to pack some items (not much, the condo had two rooms left of furniture because we'd been planning a Reno for awhile). The timing felt suspicious and sure enough, the call was because come to find out that they had scheduled another move for later that day downtown (I'm in the north county). (If he had been upfront I would have said fine, but the additional mover is at your cost.) The lead mover arrived and practically yelled at me because I didn't answer (yes, on the phone with my boss and couldn't for 20 mins.) I almost sent them home right away. The lead mover wasn't prepared, didn't park where I instructed him to (which caused a delay), demanded to be shown everything (even though detailed picture sent to the office) and then proceeded to tell me that the unit I rented was too small and I needed to rent a roll off instead (which would have been $300 more a month). That ended up not being the case, although largely due to his expertise in packing. The move lasted close to eight hours. We missed my daughter's holiday performance and it added a lot of stress to an already stressful work day. So, bottom line, aloha created a difficult day because of their decision to schedule a second move later in the day and their failure to properly plan for the move. They tried to shift the cost of their decisions to my wallet. Once the lead mover settled down and figured out that I wasn't going to pay a bunch for a large roll up unit, the move went smoother and he became more pleasant to work with. Both men worked hard loading and unloading the truck, but I will not be hiring this company again.
