My stay was superb. Welcoming front entrance! Having to accommodate a safely served breakfast by boxing it (which may be eaten in the common area or taken back to your room), my eggs and pancakes were still hot! I enjoyed a comfy king bed in a very spacious and relaxing room. Additionally, there was a lovely day bed in the room, and still the room felt very large. My wife and I stayed on Valentines weekend,it was so relaxing and calm. We had a good time just sitting in front the large fireplace in the lobby. The breakfast was just perfect every morning. Their are some nice places to eat in town as well. We walked most of the town through the neighborhoods. The room was nice and clean service was great. All in all it was a great weekend. read more

UPDATE: Fortunately, the owner of the hotel was able to move us to a king suite upstairs, so we are hoping to have a much more restful night tonight (update: We did!). We appreciate that the owner is being very accommodating and is mindful of the comfort of her guests. She is very aware of the noise issue, but with a Hotel of this age, it's very difficult to remedy that situation. The hotel offers wonderful amenities, such as a hot tea station in the lobby, as well as electric tea kettle in each guestroom. The Beekman goat milk toiletries were a treat, as were the super soft bed sheets & duvet covers. We would definitely consider staying here again, but definitely in an upstairs guestroom My husband and I are guests in the hotel now, for two nights. We chose this hotel based off the glowing reviews & website photos. While I agree that the hotel is quaint & charming and located in a picturesque area, I have a hard time giving it more than 2 stars, based on our experience thus far. We are in a downstairs bedroom (no 2nd floor rooms were available) and we spent most of last night wide awake due to the noise from upstairs. Whomever is above us was literally up & down all night and it sounded like he/she was stomping around in galoshes! It was constant and incredibly loud. Same with the plumbing noise...you hear EVERYTHING!! Additionally, our bedroom does not have a TV, so we couldn't even turn that on to drown out the noise. I wish the website would reflect this. Lastly, it's nice that the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast (you're instructed to text them your order the night before with your requested pick up time), but ours was supposed to be ready at 9am and it didn't come out till 9:20am and both my turkey sausage & oatmeal were cold. Not too appetizing...We've tried contacting the front desk, but everything is being handled by text and they are not quick to respond. Based on our experience thus far, I have a hard time recommending this hotel and will not be staying here again... read more

This historic hotel is a treat to visit. The service is amazing, and the rooms are appointed with antiques and furniture that is so well done!! Our family came up for several days last week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant next door is great as well. They are pet friendly too! Walking the streets in historic McCloud makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. It is friendly, safe, charming......the moan of the train as it passes by, and the church bells on Sunday. I saw this at SUNSET Magazine when they recommended this B&B. It was our first time and at first we were worried that we might not enjoy our stay since there are no TV and Internet in the Room, but it turned out to be good. Its nice to unplug sometimes. The Shower was great. Its good to have a strong flow so thats a plus! We have stayed at many B&B's, the strangest B&B we have ever stayed in. We went for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We were there for 3 nights, we never met the Inn Keeper. When we arrived, there were envelopes with keys to the room. There were drinks available for purchase and candy bars (all notes with the honor system for payment). There was a note for a complimentary glass of wine for one hour in the afternoon at the pub. Just arriving after a 4 hour drive, I had no idea where the pub was and no one was around to ask. I texted the number left at the check in desk, and was advised to go to the pub. When I asked where the pub was, I did not receive a reply until it was too late. The pub was located in a separate building next door. There is a beautiful fireplace, which was did not have a fire when we arrived, on a cold Autumn evening. There was note stating that only the staff would have a fire when staff was present at the Inn. Breakfast was not at all what is shown on their website. It was buffet style, (which we felt was odd for Covid times) the same breakfast every day, it was fine. We did expect homemade options of some sort, granola, oatmeal or a cereal, none of that was available. No juice, or milk. Only Coffee and Tea. That is fine for a Hampton Inn breakfast, but we feel for a bed & breakfast it was a disappointment. We Stayed in room 211, it was nice, but not the description or photo of what was on their website. Our rooms were never cleaned, no option for fresh towels (we had a jacuzzi room, extra towels would have been appreciated), but we did see an envelope to leave a tip for the cleaning staff. We left our keys at the same counter we picked them up at and left for our journey home. About 5 minutes into the drive, my phone rang, it was Cindy, the Inn Keeper (?), manager (?), who called me by the wrong name and told me they forgot to get my credit card and would like payment. I corrected her on my name and gave her my credit card number. After confirming the credit card was in my name, she advised an email receipt would be sent. I did receive it, it was addressed to my husband. Had we stayed in a Hampton Inn I would be fine with the trip. This trip was almost $900.00 for 3 nights, we expected a B & B experience and we felt this stay fell short. read more

Stayed here for a wedding, it was really cozy and welcoming. We stayed in the guest house which is a bit away from the main hotel, but it was a nice room with a huge bathtub. The breakfast served is great, I highly recommend the lemon to ricotta pancakes, they're phenomenal. I'd love to come back to visit again, even if it's a five hour drive from home for me. The scenery and hospitality are the best points for sure. And the pancakes! read more

If looking for a place to stay in McCloud or Mt. Shasta even, look no further. What a wonderful B&B. The hosts Nancy & Robert were so welcoming and warm it felt as if we were staying with a relative. The decor and rooms were very well done. The entire B&B is filled with tons of original art some local some from revered artists like Nancy's mother who was a very talented and acclaimed artist. The morning breakfast exceeded our expectations for any B&B we have ever been too. Fresh baked Cinnamon Scones, a large bowl with a berry medley and the homemade granola was outstanding. They offer menu items which are included in your room fee such as Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with pure Vermont syrup, Grand Marnier Challah bread French Toast, eggs any style and even a Vegan Tofu scramble! If you happen to be there on a weekend be sure and dine with them in the evening. We ate outside in the lush garden. We enjoyed the fresh French bread and pumpkin bread! This is baked fresh each day and was just delicious! The menu offers something for everyone. Some in our party dined on Salmon, Pot Roast, Chicken Pot Pie, Roasted Vegetable Flatbread and I thoroughly enjoyed my stuffed portabello mushroom. Don't skip the desserts, the Chocolate Pot d'Creme and fresh peach cobbler was epic. Needless to say we really enjoyed our stay and could not think of staying anywhere else when visiting the McCloud/Mt.Shasta area again. We look forward to our next visit. read more

Paid over $300 for a room on a Saturday night. Found a lack of customer service with no one at the front desk during our stay -- not at check in, not when we needed ice, nor when we check out this morning. We had a dinner reservation and there was again no one at the front desk or a hostess present. We ended up walking to the brew pub and having pizza and beer instead of the romantic dinner we had planned on. The room was large and very nicely furnished but the little window AC did not work. The room never cooled off during the night -- it was a long hot night and very hard to sleep in 80+ temps. I really wanted to like the hotel. But the lack of customer service and the miserable heat in the room made our stay less than enjoyable. read more

Stayed four nights at the fabulous, historic McCloud hotel in early July, 2020, with safe social distancing, with innkeeper Cindy Rosmann and crew pampering us and being very mindful of pandemic safety precautions as things started opening up. Unplug, unwind, relax and enjoy! Breakfasts at the McCloud Hotel are superb, Lemon Ricotta pancakes, delicious bacon, coffee and avocado toast...delicious!! Cindy even loaned us maps and guidebooks to help us plan our days. We explored surrounding areas each day to come 'home' to our comfortable and peaceful lodging at the hotel. Highlights were: McCloud Falls, hike to Lower, Middle and Upper Falls. Mt. Shasta City and hike around Mt. Shasta and view summit. Dunsmuir, Botanic Gardens, Sacramento River, Castle Crags, Shasta Caverns. Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake. Lassen National Park, stargazing and more. Dinner each night at Axe & Rose Restaurant at the McCloud Hotel. Sat on patio and enjoyed the gorgeous gardens and wonderful food. Caesar Salad with Shrimp, apple crisp and great service. yummy. We just stayed here on our road trip to Bend. This was every bit as charming as the photos, but even more so. We enjoyed ourselves sipping wine by the gas fire pit and overhead festive lights in the evening. We had reservations at the in-house Sage Restaurant, and it was the best food we have had in a long time. It was excellent! The service was excellent as well! And they have the Axe and Rose pub just a skip away, and they have excellent food as too. Something for everyone. I highly recommend you add this place to your travel itinerary. read more

The property is so beautiful! Inside the inn was so inviting with a wood fireplace and many comfy couches and chairs. It really does take you back in time! The room had everything you need, that most hotels/inns do not: plenty of towels, robes, q-tips, cotton swabs, makeup remover, hand sanitizer, plenty of outlets for charging, coffee/tea, throws, electric fireplace, games downstairs, books downstairs, etc. The restaurant next door had amazing food and drink options! WAKE UP DUNSMUIR!!! Hubby and I drive the I-5 corridor endlessly and really really really want a place to eat and sleep before hitting Ashland once again. Heard good things about a few restaurants in Dunsmuir. Area locals say between Sacramento & Ashland, Dunsmuir has the goods. Um.. No. With a town with "2 - 3 pretty good restaurants" why are they ALL closed on the same night? Not very considerate to the hotel people who lose biz when there is no where for their guests to dine. I digress. Thanks to Redding's patheticness and Dunsmuir's idiocy, Hubby and I found a new and marvelous town; McCloud! Who knew? And the McCloud Hotel; Wow!!!! First, the bad; the owners wouldn't be able to be there to greet us on arrival and so taped our key to the door (this is GOOD). The place is GORGEOUS (this is also good). But when I called to make the reservation I was told there was "a" vacancy - a queen room, etc... and I felt lucky. So we were surprised to find (after letting ourselves in) the entire hotel not only to ourselves (pretty much) but all the doors to all the vacant rooms open. THIS IS GOOD. We loved this, except for the part where we would have loved to have one of the BETTER rooms!! Our room was nice, but nothing like the suite we would have gladly paid for!! Then, a couple with a giant dog checked in and the woman not only allowed the dog to roam the hotel freely (all the while saying; "doggie, don't lift your leg on the pretty furniture!" ????!!!!) but when the dog took a dump on the beautiful wool carpeting, the woman scolded THE DOG for being "bad". We LOVE that the hotel is pet friendly but don't love that the owners aren't offering firmer guidance to the pet owners. Poop in the hall smells like, well... you know. So, next morning we had a ROCK STAR breakfast made by the owners and it was delicious in every way. The blueberry muffins were works of art - the very best I've ever had in my life (and I'm a former pastry chef!). We love the McCloud Hotel and while there are other beautiful-looking Inns in this town, this place is too nice not to go to again. Can't wait! Five stars when the owners figure our where to send their guests for dinner on a Monday night (nothing open in Dunsmuir, nothing worthwhile open anywhere at all) and when they think to offer a phoning guest an array of rooms if they are going to be showing them off! HIGHLY recommended, even worth going out of the way for. And make sure to walk around town and go see the water falls too. read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel over a three day weekend and loved every minute of it! We arrived on Saturday afternoon and were greeted by one of the owners who checked us in and let us know a little about the hotel and town. After getting settled in, we went back to the lobby and had a complimentary glass of wine, with cheese, crackers, and grapes by the fire. It was quiet, but in a relaxing way. We had a reservation for the restaurant that night and had the trout and pot roast - Amazing!! We were just blown away by the food there! We had a reservation somewhere else on Sunday night, but managed change it to the Sage Restaurant because they had a cancellation. Sunday night we ate the creamy tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich and the pot pie. Again, just blown away by the food! The breakfast spread was really good too. Homemade gluten free granola, cinnamon breakfast cake, yogurt, fruit, plus about 6 options for your made to order meal! A fabulous way to start the day! Plus they had a great hot tea selection. We had a corner room on the top floor. I didn't notice much noise, just a baby a couple doors down once or twice. The shower was great and the complimentary toiletries smelled fabulous. Our room was very spacious and clean. There was no tv and no clocks in the room, but it actually made it a nice way to really slow down. There are books and magazines in the lobby and magazines in the hallways and room. There is also a tv room downstairs, but the weather was so nice for outdoor activities, I don't think I noticed anyone use it the entire weekend. There was also a community microwave and mini-fridge that we used to keep our leftovers in with no problems. The town was quaint and cozy with a beautiful view of Mt. Shasta. The town of Mt. Shasta is only about 15 minutes away, so if you can't find it in McCloud, you should be able to find it there. We were able to hike the McCloud River and check out the lower, middle, and upper falls - definitely a worthwhile hike! We would highly recommend this hotel (B&B) and restaurant to anyone interested in a beautiful getaway. We are looking forward to coming back during the warmer months. read more

An old world charming hotel that felt like being in White Christmas for the holidays. Friendly staff greets you at the front desk, the guests are more like old friends. A dog friendly hotel is a plus, our pups were happy. The restaurant is quaint, a nice selection to choose from, for breakfast or dinner. The homemade granola and yogurt parfait starter is delicious, as was the Avacado Toast and American breakfast, with Polenta to die for. The crabcake starter for dinner the best we've ever tasted. We've been visiting this hotel for about 15 years. It's improved under the new owners. They offer dinner now and the breakfasts are terrific! It used to be that you would check in then have to jump in your car again and drive to Mt. Shasta for dinner. Having dinner available at the hotel is really wonderful. I really enjoy relaxing outside over dinner with the beautiful landscaping all around.The new hosts are terrific, warm and friendly as is the waitstaff. The young lady who served our breakfast is a local and knows everything about the area. This is a great place, both the hotel (B&B) and the restaurant (dinner). Lovely hotel, nice breakfasts, great dinner, very helpful recommendations from the great hosts (owners), who create wonderful welcoming atmosphere! While we typically stay at a more budget-oriented places, the price ($120 per night) is very reasonable for what you get, and we are surprised it doesn't cost much more. Highly recommend! B&B: This place has wonderful setting and decor, in the "old classic" style. While staying there we felt as if we were inside a movie scene. The rooms are nice and clean, the bed is comfortable, the shower is perfect. Often, when staying at hotels, we find that the shower is not as good as the one at home. In this case, the shower was better than at home (we were in room 205 in case that matters). Room cleaning service is very careful and thoughtful. The owners (as well as all other personnel) are very friendly and helpful hosts. We stayed with a toddler, and while the hotel doesn't have any special provisions for the kids (which is clearly stated on their website), the owners were very accommodating with our needs (convenient table during the breakfast, etc.). For the four days of our stay, they have been providing us with great recommendations for the places to see in the vicinity and the places to eat at. All those recommendations were great: right as described and what we were looking for. The breakfast that is included in the stay is great: It is different from the typical "continental breakfast" that you usually have at many hotels. One of the highlights of the breakfast are the baked scones and the muffins with some red berries (on different days). I am not a scone person, but I loved these scones. Restaurant (dinner): This is a great restaurant. The main thing we regretted was that we had only one stomach each, which limited our choice: the menu had many tempting items and the wine list was very interesting. One thing to be aware is that they only serve dinner Thursday-Sunday, and that it's best to make a reservation ahead of time, as they have limited number of tables. Just in case somebody is looking at older reviews, - the current owners are relatively new, - since some time in 2012. PS. The feature of the area: the tap water in McCloud is great - very tasty and well pH-balanced: not too acidic or too alkaline, very pleasant on the skin. read more

My partner and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and have nothing but great things to say about both the hotel and its owners. The furniture, decor, and attention to detail everywhere in the hotel is just charming. Cozy quiet time in front of their fireplace with a book or a glass of wine after time out in the cold is really wonderful and relaxing. The rooms are very well designed and clean. There's nothing musty or dusty about it. We got an ideal night's sleep both nights there. Finally, you can't beat the free gourmet breakfast, scones, coffee, tea, and granola. delicious! The McCloud Hotel and the innkeeper Cindy were just what my soul and my guests needed. I had the chance to rent the entire hotel. I would suggest it for any gathering. It allowed us the option to gather in all of the wonderful areas of the Hotel. The living room is comfortable with couches and rockers. There are tables for games and a beautiful area for breakfast or snacks. There are outside areas with firepits, porches with rocking chairs and grassy areas with couches and chairs. Cindy went above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. I could picture what a wedding could look like in this beautiful setting. I arranged a special dinner for my group and the kitchen next door was able to do a wonderful gourmet meal. I needed some sandwiches for the river. Turkey with cranberry and brie were a hit. If it is for a night or a long weekend this is as lovely a place as you could wish for. read more

We had a wonderful experience staying here on our honeymoon! My husband and I had a very fast wedding because we are a military couple and had trouble booking for our last minute honeymoon. This hotel is a true gem in the mountains. Out of all Mt. Shasta city surrounding areas this is my favorite place to home base from. The town of McCloud is charming and the people are so friendly. I always feel welcome and cared for at the McCloud Hotel. It is like staying in a small lodge with it's living rooms, restaurant and even a room with a small fridge and coffee maker. No one looms over you as you relax in the common areas, but a silent buzzer at the front desk calls for service at any given moment throughout the day. Every room is different and is appointed beautifully. The beds are really comfortable as are the rooms. The restaurant has a great variety of delicious choices for dinner and offers inside or outside seating. The complimentary breakfasts are beyond what you'd expect.
