I got terrible watery diarrhea and vomiting on 2/20/2020 Thursday from eating breakfast abt 8:30am at Beretania St location. I ate an egg/sausage and an egg/ham breakfast sandwich, drank ice water from left beverage dispenser, wiped my hands with the in-store towelette dispenser. Only food I ate that day was from this McDonalds breakfast. Fecal or other bacteria/virus likely came from the many homeless who wash their hands with water from the beverage dispenser or fill their water containers with ice and water (or any drink selection) or they use USED drink cups they fish-out from the rubbish bins. While I was eating, a vagrant (dirty clothes, dirty hands, backpack) opened the rubbish bin door and got a drink cup then got some drink from the dispenser and walked out (took less than 60 seconds). When I went to get water, a vagrant (dirty clothes, dirty hands, backpack) was filling 3 water bottles and a drink cup with ice, drinks then he openly sneezed facing the dispenser - So GROSS! So I moved to the other dispenser queue to get my water. I've witnessed the same stealing at the Keeaumoku and Liliha locations. Stealing drinks is a regular habit of the vagrants. Fishing discarded cups from the rubbish bins and it's all you can drink! So PILAU! The last straw was the horrible diarrhea and vomiting yesterday. McDonalds corporate Hawaii responded with the below but I'm pretty sure the Beretania location is a corporate owned store as well as the Liliha and Keeaumoku McDonalds locations. I'm not quite sure what is up with this McDonald's, but they can't seem to get it together. I should have known better than to have come here after a 13 hour workday. I rarely come to this one because it tends to have long lines, staff making mistakes and sometimes unsurly folks hanging around outside. The guests who overstay there welcomehave a cop who is present oftentimesto keep things in order. Unfortunately, the one closest to my job is closed for remodeling. The drive thru traffic here varies depending on how fast they're moving inside. Today the line was moving steadily along and by the time I got to the window my order was almost ready. That was a good pace up until of the employees added salt to the fries. I always ask for no salt and they we're ready, but the person was inattentive and dumped a pound of salt on the fries. I, in turn, had to wait another 10 minutes for fresh fries. I had already been in the line a while and had been more than patient. I know this isn't a gourmet place, but it doesn't take much to pay attention. And if someone has attention issues then they need to work during slower times or in an area where they'll have the least distractions. Fortunately, despite my fries being crunchy as a twig, they had no salt. The burger was adequately warm too. I was able to inhale it and get to bed before 11 pm. read more

This McDonald's is on the left side of Beretania St, right across from Burger King. The drive thru here is always busy during lunch hours, more so than at Burger King. I swear every time I do an Uber eats or Postmates or even a drive through order, for some god unknown reason. They always and I mean always have 1-2 items missing and then tell me that the driver should have check. But get this. The drivers can't check it cause it's sealed with the mcdelivery tape. Yesterday, I ordered a bacon quarter pounder without cheese, extra onions. Decided to try the mobile app to see if it would cut down on the wait time. It did not. Although, sitting in the assigned stall was much better than keeping my foot on the brake, idling and creeping forward to pay. I pre-paid on a debit card, sat there and waited and my food was delivered to the car. When I said thank you to the clerk she turned around and went back in without a word. Oh well, I'd have a bad day if I had to work at McDonald's too. I got home and my burger had no cheese on it, but it also had no bacon! Manager told me to return soon to pick up a replacement. So I went back today to pick up my replacement of a bacon quarter pounder with no cheese, extra onions. I got home, open the container and I got what looks like a double serving of American cheese. Writing a Yelp review of McDonalds is about as pointless as knitting underwear for Tarzan, but credit where credit is due. Using the McDonalds app (surprisingly good and easy-to-use deals found only in the app) I got 2 all-day-breakfast egg mcmuffins for $4.19 total including tax. They were hot, tender, and surprisingly delicious, and at 290 calories, 13 g fat, 4 g fiber, 17 g protein, and 3 g sugar per sandwich one of the better choices on the menu. Even better if you were to delete the "cheese." I didn't delete the cheese because, cheese. Fast, efficient, and clean, it was WAYYYY better than the crappy experience I had the other day at the nearby Jack in the Box. And out of nostalgia I must reminisce about the most delicious fast food breakfast sandwich ever, the McDonalds steak, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich, sadly no longer available. Who doesn't like McDonald's right?? I can reminisce all the way back to childhood days when going to the golden arches was a big deal. In fact the very first McDonald's in Hawaii was in the East Honolulu neighborhood of Aina Haina. There is still a McDonald's there but the original structure has been replaced. I always think to myself, "When I retire, will I be hanging out at McDonald's at 5am in the morning?" It's just one of life's many mysterious and upcoming questions. I wouldn't mind it as long as they get free wi-fi when I get there. 8) This is actually our "on the way to work" stop every now and again. So, depending on the traffic, we'll drive though or just park it and walk in. It's mostly the latter though. One of the best things about this location? They get the order right super early in the morning. It'd be so humbug when I'm barely awake to get something wrong, but all the times we've come here they've been on it. So I never thought I would write a review for a fast food joint, but this McDonald's warranted some praise. I met my dad for breakfast because he likes to have his senior-discount coffee there. My husband and I stayed there for 4 hours with my dad talking. During that time, I saw the staff cleaning very regularly. The floors were spotless--they even mopped the floors outside. The bathroom was very clean too. So kudos to them! They also handled the lunch rush that I observed very well. Kind of odd though, I asked for a cup of ice (to make my coffee and iced coffee), but the woman said she would have to charge me 52 cents?! Haha. I ended up just getting three of the little dinky water cups and filling them up with ice at the soda machine. read more

This is a good place because it is a 24 hour place and very common and a quick fix for a meal. However, I just wish that most of the homeless people who frequently hang out and not really order anything should always honor the sign and make sure that they do abide the 45 min limit of seating. I don't understand what the thought process is behind putting a live person at the drive-thru to take orders instead of using the traditional method of screaming into the speaker. My bigger beef with this is that they put this live person nowhere near the menu board. So, while we're waiting behind other cars, we can't look at a menu to try to decide. And then, when you actually get to the order taker, they're holding a basic version of the menu...one without the Value menu, combo meals, etc. it's not organized anything like the menu board that we're used to looking at and unless you know what you want or the McDonalds menu by heart, this one-sheeter is basically a useless a la carte menu. Maybe I just figured out why they use the live order taker standing in the drive-thru after all. I'm sure ordering for the whole family without seeing the menu caused us to pay more. I come to this McDonalds often. It's nice because it's open 24/7 (both drive thru and dine in) and with a bathroom. It's normally clean and the staff are friendly. The 8am time frame can be a bit busy (mostly the elderly community and commuters) and the lines (both drive thru and dine in) can be long, but shorter than lunch time or closer to 5pm (a lot of school kids). Sometimes there is no parking, but the security guard outside makes sure you're in and out around 30 mins if you are parked in the front. So, you drive around a few laps and can get parking. He also conducts the traffic there, since the line can go out to traffic. But normally it's not that crazy. Free soda and coffee refills. Senior discounts. I suggest not to get the Asian salad, unless you have time to thaw out the frozen edamame and peppers. But the banana pie is great! I love how the McDonald's in Hawaii have great flavor a like coconut, taro, banana, and custard! There is a atm inside and handicap friendly. read more

Ordered coffee and apple pies and stood on the side only to find...the person in the back preparing the apple pies were touching them WITHOUT gloves on. Every single person handling food was wearing gloves, except this one employee. Grabbing the apple pies from the fryer with her bare hands. It's McDonalds. This one is clean, fast and friendly. Parking can be a little tight, The fries are some of the best anywhere. The dollar menu now costs more than a dollar for many items. The chicken sandwich is one of the best values - still $1. The one thing I don't understand is why ANYONE would buy a fillet of fish at McDonald's. The fish has gotten smaller and smaller. It's now the size of a postage stamp. If you want fillet of fish, go to Bob's BBQ and have a fried mahi burger. Trust me on this one! As others have mentioned it has been recently renovated and looks good, but I suspect that they may have lost the concept of "fast food" in the renovation. I stopped by here the other afternoon just to by a soda. There was a line when I got in, but since I thought this wouldn't take long I decided to get behind the 5 people already there. I guess that none of the workers noticed that there was a line, because everyone behind the counter just seemed content to walk back and forth or stand at various locations holding empty bags. Finally one of the workers decides it time to start taking orders, since the line is now about 10 deep. She takes orders, collects money, and places the receipts on the counter next to her, but makes no effort to fill the orders. 'That's okay', I'm thinking because maybe those orders are complicated and they have to get some kind of McDonalds expert on the line to tell them how to complete them. Then I get to the front of the line after about 10 minutes (I was really thirsty), and place my order for a large drink, pay the cashier, who then promptly walks away from the counter. I don't know if she had orders that were waiting to be filled from the morning and felt that she better start to get the food to the people before they become old enough to start collecting Social Security checks. Or maybe that it would be to difficult for her to reach down, pull a cup from the sleeve, and hand it to me, so she had to walk away from the counter for a couple of minutes to think about it. Or maybe there's something else that I can not imagine, but it takes her a couple of minutes of walking around behind the counter before she reaches down next tot the register and hands me a large cup (the drinks there are self serve). The food there is the standard that you can get at any other McDonalds, it's just that it takes you forever to get it. So unless you have a lot of time to spare this is one McDonalds you should avoid. read more

I come here often in the morning if I'm in a rush for breakfast and starving. It's just McDonald's - nothing special. The parking sucks, but I usually just go through the drive thru. In the mornings, the drive thru line may look intimidating and long. Don't let that fool you! The staff here are quick and efficient. I usually get my food in 5 minutes flat. Wifey and I saw a commercial on TV about the banana pies and we (meaning she) wanted to get one. We were already about to eat dinner (spicy tuna hand rolls) so we thought we'd eat at home then walk to the 2nd nearest McD's (the closest one was about to close at 7:30pm on Fort Street) and have that for dessert. This one was about a mile walk 1 way so we could justify the unhealthy crap we were about to eat. It was pretty nice inside, definitely not what I would've expected from a McD's. I guess it was just renovated recently. I got the banana pie a la mode for $1.89 and she got the banana pie $0.99 and the vanilla cone (out of nostalgia's sake) for $1.20. The banana pie is really good and goes really well with the vanilla soft serve. I really enjoy the experimental and local things McD's comes out with in Hawaii McD's that aren't anywhere else: taro pie, pineapple pie, haupia pie, spam, rice, Portuguese sausage, soy sauce. But the kicker was seeing saimin on the menu here! I know for most people here, you've probably grown up with all this, but I wasn't raised here, so I love seeing little things like that. read more

This is the McDonald's that we tend to visit more often than any other McDonald's in town. We found that that this one was a little less expensive than say the one on Keeaumoku. It's not a lot of savings but it was enough for us to visit this one often. Today was the first time that I ever had to wait on the side for my food. I waited less than five minutes but come on...this is McDonald's. I always thought that they had food all ready for any customer that showed up at the window/counter. I guess I caught them at a bad time. The guy that took my order had a very monotone and not the most inviting voice I have heard at a drive thru. He was quick to give me my change but when he gave me my receipt and change, his voice changed and he sounded a bit happier than when he took my order. Then that went away when he was talking to the next customer behind me. I drove up to the next window and waited for a minute before a really nice girl came up to the window and told me to pull up on the side. She didn't give me a reason but she said it with a smile so I didn't question it. The boy that came out of the store to bring me my food was nice and said thank you. The fries were not pipping hot even though I had to wait but they were still good, as McDonald's fries generally are. Our nuggets were crispy and packed nicely in their cute little boxes. Overall, the food was typical of McDonald's...just the right amount of salt on the fries and a smell left in my car to always remind that I ate those oh so yummy french fries. read more

This location has the worst service and is pricier than then the Palolo or McCully McD restaurants. There are two drive thru lanes but each time I've gone there, one lane is closed and that lane is usually slow. Today when we went the drive thru line was out to the curb so we decided to use the curb side pick up. We waited over 20 minutes until I finally had to go in to get my order which was sitting on the counter. When I as the worker if that was for the curbside she grunted and walked away to make the drinks. She then proceeded to fill the cup with ice to the top so we had cups full of ice not much to drink. When I asked if it usually takes this long, she said, "Yes we busy!" Which doesn't explain why it was sitting on the counter when I came in. In my opinion, seems like no one wanted to walk out in the rain to deliver the food. If that was the case they should have stopped the curbside delivery. What was even more irratating was it was cold when I began to eat it. If this McD is going to charge higher prices for their food, they should at least give better service. read more

This all pertains to the drive thru: I'm not a big fan of fast food but when I do get the rare (and I mean RARE) case of the fast food munchies, I usually go to this one since it's close to my house. I think that this mcdonalds has their on and off days. There are times when their fries are really soggy, even during their peak times when you would think that everything would just be coming out of the fryer. And then there are days where you just enjoy everything that they've given you. The workers too have their days, I dont know how many times I've been given too many condiments (im not complaining) or not getting anything close to what I've asked. Sweet and sour sauce when I wanted Ranch and BBQ sauce, no straws when I've ordered 4 drinks.
