I had a craving for fast food and figured I'd check out the app deals for McDonald's. This location is walkable from my home so I selected it for its convenience. The location is in the heart of Waikiki and while not the cleanest McDonald's I've been to, it's okay. There was some trash on the tables near me when I entered but I did see workers cleaning here and there. I ordered via the app, which I recommend so you can get the best deals. Otherwise, you have to order at the kiosk--not the counter--at this location. Your order begins to be prepared once you enter the vicinity of the location; this way it's meant to be fairly fresh. Even with that, my french fries were pretty cold and soft, not crisp and hot as I was hoping they would be. My burger was warm and good and my McNuggets were hot. My order was prepared just like I asked for it to be prepared, so points for accuracy. I ordered an ice cream cone and they didn't start it until the rest of my hot food was ready and I came to the counter to pick it up. I do appreciate that. Overall, if you're looking for a quick bite to eat in Waikiki and just want some fast food to make things easy, this is a good location. Keep in mind the Hawai'i McDonald's do have some things the mainland locations don't have, such as fried pies instead of baked, so be sure to check those out.

We saw that you could only get haupia pie here in Hawaii, so we had to get it. We came to this location, and it appears the only way to order is through the 2 kiosks. They don't take in-person orders. The line for the kiosk was pretty long. Even after ordering, it took a while to get our one haupia pie. Altogether it probably took about 25-30 minutes from waiting in line to picking up our order. The restaurant appeared pretty dirty, like tables not being clean. Fortunately despite the restaurant experience, the haupia pie came out super hot. Even after a 10 minute walk it was piping hot. The haupia pie was delicious! It had a nice, crunchy, almost oily exterior (in a good way). The filling was slightly runny, with a coconut flavor and like coconut gel pieces (not a lot, but some to give texture). I don't think I would crave this flavor necessarilym but it was pretty cool to try!

I decided to try Mcd's while in Hawaii. I got my regular Big Breakfast with Hot Cakes and sausage burritos. They were pretty good per usual. I had to try the Local Deluxe Breakfast Platter which had rice, eggs, spam and Portuguese sausage. I thought the sausages were too salty but the rice was cooked perfectly. The staff were kind and efficient. They packed everything I requested and I got my food pretty quickly. Service 10/10 Food 8/10

Good location. Fast , efficient and good manner . No public restroom. They offer Hawaiian breakfast like spam , pork sausage with scrambled egg and rice as well as the traditional western breakfast.

Love RICE, EGG, SPAM, SAUSAGE? Yes I do!! Everytime I come back to Honolulu, this is on my to do list always :) This location never disappoints, from ordering on the app or just standing in line, workers are fast and quick to bring out the food. Prices aint bad at all. The atmosphere is alright, could be crowded but also just quiet.

10/17/2025 Backs turned. A sign that doesn't encourage cash. "Please use kiosk"
    Miss D.

I'm here now and they aren't taking cash. No one is working the register. No one is answering me when I ask if I can pay. Great job employees! No one wants to work! I'm here waiting for a mobile pick up order too. That's why I wanted to pay cash. It was a last minute add on. Well they don't want my cash. Ambience? Unwelcoming and not good for kids. Get To-go. Backs turned. No one taking cash at the register. Workers were leaving drinks on the counter. So customers were touching the tops of them, and one person drank a drink and left their half-drunk drink on the counter. They didn't even throw the half-drunk drink away! It sat there, on the food counter unattended. Eventually they refilled it and put it back on the counter. UN-HYGIENIC and LOUSY service. Check your cameras McD's! 10/17/2025, 10:07pm-10:30 ish. Disgusting! Look at my pictures and captions! I made one worker throw a drink away because I saw people touching the top of it. The workers' backs are turned. They are NOT watching what people are doing to the food and drinks after they put them on the counter!! Also the side area said closed and had a whole worker's family back there. The worker kept going back there to visit. Normally I wouldn't care but the service was so poor no one should be able to have guests in a "closed" area of the restaurant. Customers couldn't sit there, but the family of a worker could. Got it. Worst McDonald's I've ever been to. Go to the McDonald's on 2400 Kalakaua or 1778 Ala Moana. Much better! Next day I ordered McDonalds.. this time from Door Dash (I thought it might be better). This same McDonalds didn't give me a single Monopoly piece! I specifically ordered McDonalds BECAUSE of monopoly. I didn't get a single game piece after spending $50 and selecting items (on door dash) that earned monopoly game pieces. NO monopoly pieces, NO napkins, and they forgot my hot fudge sundae. I got the long Spoon but NO sundae. Corporate PLEASE audit and inspect this McDonald's. PLEASE!!! ***TLDR: I highly recommend you do not go to this McD's for dinner.

I'm now on my hunt for the Squishmallow Happy Meal toys. I got Maui at this location. I asked the manager working at the counter to find that one for me as it's my favorite. She told me that she couldn't find it as it's all packaged, but you can clearly see through the bag. She told me that, but I saw her looking for Maui. Thank you! So the Squishmallow Happy Meals are $4.99. It comes with either four pieces of chicken nuggets or a hamburger. You can a little more for the six piece nuggets or cheeseburger. It came with two little boxes of french fries and a small drink.

This place is average all across the board. I don't hear often but maybe if I am craving french fries. I decided to try the Teri burger and it was too sweet the sauce and thick. I didn't like the sauce at all. The burger was kind of thick from what I have gotten in the past. The fries was perfect but for 10.00 I wouldn't buy this combo. I used the app to get the special and still was expensive imo. It can get busy here and you'll have to wait for a while.

I love coming to McDonald's in Hawaii because they still deep-fry their pies! Also, they have flavors you cannot get elsewhere in the mainland like haupia, Taro, or mango flavored pies.

I know what you're thinking, grilled cheese ? Seriously ? Out of the food in Hawaii this is one thing you choose to try for dinner ? And I would say yes every time. This grilled cheese has a special place in my food palette. I have not found another grilled cheese anywhere else in all the places I have been at that replicates this delicious flavor and taste. It was so good that I end up coming back for 4 days straight my stay in Hawaii ! I had the following below: *PATTY - 5/5 - It is the best grilled cheese I have ever had in my life ! It has a nice tasty beef patty, 4 cheeses (Cheddar, Mozzarella, Provolone, American) Caramelized onions, Bacon and Aioli sauce ! It was boasting with flavor ! Bread was soft, cheeses were boasting with flavor, aioli sauce was amazing. I really wish i paired this with their tomato dip ! I can only imagine how much this would've complimented the grilled cheese. The service was exceptional ! The establishment is a small so be sure to eat this on the go or they have small tables set up if you'd like to eat there !

The sandwiches came out quickly, were perfectly toasted, and had so much gooey, melted cheese. All of the toppings worked really well together and made every bite flavorful. Another big plus is that this was one of the few places open late at night, which made it a great option after a long day. The only downside was that it was a little difficult to find an open table since there's limited seating. Other than that, I'd definitely come back and highly recommend it!

She made us feel genuinely welcomed, took great care of us throughout our meal, and was quick, attentive, and friendly the entire time. Her excellent service made an already enjoyable visit even better. The food was fantastic. The burger was flavorful, juicy, and cooked perfectly, while the fries were extra crispy with a delicious garlic flavor that really stood out. Since it's an open-air restaurant, it was a little warm dining at around 1:00 p.m., but that was the only minor downside. Overall, everything was lovely, and Christine's outstanding hospitality made the experience memorable. I would definitely come back!

I ordered a Waimea burger which has two patties, cheese, sauteed onions, and bacon. It was good and came with some nice crispy fries. Deb ordered a child's meal with two little sliders and fries. We sat facing Kuhio and watched all the different people walking by. It was all very fun because some of them were funny to watch! It's interesting how some of the tourists will not venture outside of Waikiki and would only do so on a tour. Banzai does have some really cold Coronas, so I suggest coming here, sitting back, and watch the world go by! Mahalo Banzai!

I didn't expect much from this small corner diner, but everything turned out real solid! The exterior is especially entrancing, with its bright, rainbow neon sign that glows out the darkness of the night! The hooded interior was clean and followed well with the rainbow theme, especially with its rainbow pastel, title wallpaper. I would also like to compliment the workers, who were very nice and approachable! We ordered the loco moco plate, mixed plate, and saimin. Both plates were very filling and came in huge portions! The plates are for sure a top choice if you want a nice, hearty dinner! I especially enjoyed my loco moco! The saimin was less filling and came in an instant noodle cup. Still yet, it wasn't half bad--and it actually seems like a fairly good piece if you are on a diet or budget; it wasn't as expensive as the other dishes and only came out as 220 calories! I also want to note that they have a variety of tasty dessert pastries and icee treats if you are looking for a treat after your dinner. Overall, I would say this is a great diner to try if you've got a big appetite and are looking for something to share with a friend or family! Great vibes and great Hawaiian plate meals!

And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.
