I purchased a new Honda here in March 2023 (a time when new cars were difficult to find) Covid, a shortage of parts.. whatever.. Most every time the sales guy, Jesus, was about to make a statement or supposedly answer a question, he had to leave me sitting at his little desk and go ask the manager. Then he would return with a half answer. The car I purchased has some technical things that I was unfamiliar with and were never explained to me. When I called the dealership after my purchase, the girl who answered the phone directed my call to the sales area.. the phone rang and rang and no one ever picked up.. after repeated attempts to get someone to help..she apologized and said she'd try to help. She, Trinity, I believe, checked around and did her absolute best to help and I thought her instructions worked. Sadly, the next time I went to start my car the original problem was back. Katie is another young lady who at a different time tried to help in lieu of anyone in sales responding to call paging. I was frustrated and so sorry I ever went to McGrath Honda. At this point I drove to McGrath Acura because they have same ownership.... My experience immediately changed... I was treated well. The sales employees tried to help and were so kind even though it was apparent I was not going to purchase a vehicle from them. My Accord had the engine start rattle problem. I took it to McGrath and was informed it was normal ( there was a service bulletin and warranty repair in effect). Second return to McGrath with seat track rumble problem common to accord. Told there was no fix. Third return for computer programming stll no fix for start rattle. Last time I asked about start rattle problem was told " If you think Honda is going to do anyhting for you ...forget it" So I have done just that. First off, we are very happy Honda Odyssey owners, as this is our third. However, BEWARE MCGRATH HONDA in ELGIN. We purchased a *CERTIFIED pre-owned 2019 Honda Odyssey, along with the extra expense of an *EXTENDED WARRANTY in August 2022. On December 23, the car would not start. We were required to bring it for service, as we were told they do not offer jump service, so needed it to be towed to McGrath, using our insurance company. McGrath told us we needed a new battery, which was not covered under the warranty, although it had only been less than 4 months since certification. We needed to pay for the battery, plus installation, which was more than twice the expense of bringing it to ANY other battery service company. Jump forward to today, May 5. Brought the car in for our "free" oil change, and were now told we needed back brakes AND a wheel alignment... although we had less than 4,000 miles added since purchase. We were told we must have done something to cause this... NOT! Again, NOT covered under the extended warranty, as it is considered NORMAL maintenance. Another $800 for our "free" oil change. Neither of these things are NORMAL maintenance, when occurring in such a short period after purchase. We have previously purchased an Odyssey from McGrath Elgin, which included "free" car washes for the life of the vehicle... which only lasted for about 6 months, then the car wash machine broke down and was out of service for months, followed by a new policy, which required us to leave the vehicle and wait inside for the car to be put through the car wash. This was extremely inconvenient, so we stopped getting the car wash there. That is most probably the whole point of the new policy. Going back to the purchase of the 2019 Odyssey... We came to pick up the vehicle in August, after purchase and financing cleared, saying all good with the pickup appointment... After waiting for over an hour, in an empty showroom, and at least a half-dozen sales and service people standing around gabbing, were were told that the car was not yet ready, as it needed new tires and the tires were not yet received! So another delay and more waiting to come back another day to pick up the vehicle. Although we had previously received positive and trusted experiences with McGrath Honda Elgin sales and service, these more recent experiences are examples that McGrath Honda Elgin is no longer a reliable dealership, and the service department is not to be trusted any longer! I am certain we will not be purchasing at this location again, and will warn everyone we know against buying here in the future. Most companies are going the extra mile to keep customers happy, but NOT McGrath Honda in Elgin! It is sad that McGrath Honda service has deteriorated to the extreme untrustworthy history of the used car sales business! CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED means absolutely NOTHING at McGrath Honda Elgin. P.S. BE AWARE OF BAD SERVICE Be careful when going there for service or to buy a car. I attempted to by a car there in 2014 and again in 2018 and was very disappointed with sales guys that are trying to drag the process for hours. So I walked out and went to Brilianace Honda. The sales people are just as bad as service people. Recently I had oil change service and the the service tech wrote there is oil leaks and bad alignment all together like $7K+ of work. So first thing I went to Mavis where I got tires to check the alignment and they told me the car is fine and does not need alignment. Than I I took my car to my cousins shop so he can try to see what is going on with it. We both look along with one of his technicians and there was no leak. I have a CR-V Hybrid Touring edition, and the service department does nothing to solve problems. Just continually trying to sell you service that is not needed. They told my wife the differential fluid needed changing at 9800 miles. Are you kidding me? The car play on the radio is very unreliable; it works one time and not the next. What does the service department say? It must be your cable. A simple search on the internet will show that this is a known problem. I just do not trust McGrath Honda with my business. I brought my car in around May of this year for my a/c because it was blowing warm air, so they said they replaced the compressor and the condenser and when I got my car back, I noticed it was working intermittently. When I brought my car in for some scheduled maintenance about a week later I told the service advisor about it and he told me they are made to do that and there is a switch to turn it off but never showed me this "switch"! My vents get moist, which doesn't seem right. They didn't even bother to look in to it when my car was in for the scheduled maintenance. I also noticed when I got my car back the first time I had some pretty severe damage underneath my car. There was a big gash underneath next to my front driver side wheel, the wheel well was completely ripped off but was stuffed in to the edge so you wouldn't notice. It was as if someone ran over a big rock and reversed off of it. My front bumper is all scratched underneath. So I also brought this up to them as well and the technician came out and told me that I probably ran over a curb!! Ummmmmm I think if I did something like that I would definitely know it! I'm the only one who drives this car and I know for sure I did not do this to my car. They did replace the shield under my car but it is still damaged near the wheel and under the bumper. They sent me a survey and I completed it and told them my issues and months later still no one has reached out to me. So they took $3500.00 from me and I feel I was totally ripped off. I feel no respect was given to my car or my money and I certainly don't feel like the technician takes his job seriously. I had better expectations from a dealer and now I just feel sick about it. read more
