Beware of Dishonest Practices and High-Pressure Tactics My recent visit to McGrath Honda of Elgin on December 28th was nothing short of a nightmare. The experience was marred by unprofessionalism, high-pressure sales tactics, and outright dishonesty, especially by sales manager Mario and salesperson Mohanad Alzeem. I had an appointment scheduled for 6:45 PM, but the salesperson texted me saying they were closing at 6 PM. I rushed to change my plans and arrived at 5 PM, only to be greeted with unnecessary theatrics. Mohanad made a big show of saying, "We were all waiting just for you to buy a car today," which was absurd since I only came in for a test drive. When I asked simple questions about leasing, Mohanad was completely unprepared and lacked basic knowledge. After the test drive, things took a turn for the worse. They offered me a ridiculously low trade-in value for my car--70% less than CarMax's offer--and an outrageous monthly payment quote between $700-$900. When I challenged their pricing, the monthly payment mysteriously dropped by 50% within minutes. This only confirmed their attempts to rip me off from the start. To make matters worse, I already had better offers from other dealerships, which I pointed out. As soon as I told them I needed time to think, their behavior completely shifted. The salesperson and the sales manager became dismissive and rude. Mario, in particular, was aggressive and even called me a liar, despite the fact that he and his team were the ones making false promises and manipulating numbers. This dealership thrives on deceit and pressure. Do yourself a favor and avoid McGrath Honda of Elgin at all costs. There are far better and more honest dealerships out there. Future Customers Beware: Be prepared before stepping into this dealership. Research market prices, compare offers from other dealerships, and don't fall for their high-pressure tactics. I had a very disappointing experience with McGrath Honda in Elgin. I brought my 2022 Audi A4 in for what should have been a simple oil change (offered when I purchased the car). Shortly after, I received a call informing me that the technician had accidentally drained my transmission fluid. While I understand that mistakes can happen, what followed made the situation much worse. I specifically requested that my vehicle be taken to an Audi dealership for proper inspection and repair, as I did not feel comfortable having McGrath continue working on it. I had to push for this to happen. When the car was finally taken to Audi Morton Grove, they discovered that McGrath had also overfilled the engine oil. Because of this, Audi had to run the car for hours and drive it multiple times due to blue and white smoke coming from the vehicle. The customer service experience was extremely inconsistent. Carrie did a good job communicating updates, and Steve, the service director, was helpful throughout the process. However, my interaction with Chris, the manager, was unacceptable. He was very rude and dismissive, even stating they were "doing me a favor" by replacing the transmission fluid because I was "due for it," otherwise it would have cost $630. That comment was especially frustrating and inappropriate given that the issue was caused by their mistake. When I went to pick up my car, no one from management or my service advisor met with me to apologize or review what had happened. I was simply directed to the cashier. I was also not provided with any documentation from Audi Morton Grove regarding the work performed, despite being told I would receive it at pickup. I had to follow up myself to obtain that paperwork. To add to the lack of care, my car wasn't even washed before being returned. Overall, this experience showed a serious lack of accountability, professionalism, and customer care. I expected much better handling of a situation that they caused. read more

I enjoyed working with my salesperson, the management not so much. Especially Luis Martinez, a finance manager. I purchased a new vehicle outright and he titled my vehicle to the wrong address. Did a poor job owning up to his mistake, but none the less promised it would be fixed. Over 4/5 weeks later, it is still not fixed. He does not respond to messages and follow-up is poor and next to nonexistent. He didn't even confirm they received my wire transfer for the vehicle like he said he would. Basically, gave me their bank info, I wire the money and you don't hear back from them. Wow! I had to call my sales person the day after so she could try and confirm. The guy needs to take his job a bit more seriously. I sent an email to Kino, another manager, since their survey email asked if there is an issue to reach out to him. They did title the vehicle wrong and promised to fix it, but what a shocker, I haven't heard from him either. It is clear to me that I'll have to try to re-title the car myself and get everything corrected. If they or Luis Martinez paid attention to their customers and followed through on things when they say they will, I wouldn't be writing this review. I did notify them right away that the title had the wrong address, but they sent in the paperwork to the state anyway. All because of Luis Martinez, if he were to check his messages or follow up with customers, this could have been prevented. Thank you McGrath Honda of Elgin management for making a simple full cash purchase experience of a new civic very difficult. Do yourself a favor, especially if you're a cash buyer, go elsewhere. We researched a Honda CR V on the internet prior to visiting any dealers. After visiting Edmunds for the best pricing we selected 5 dealerships for possible vehicles. I submitted their names and at 9:00 I received an e-mail from Darek Smorz at McGrath Honda. At 9:06 I received a follow up phone call. I told him the color and model we were interested in and he replied that they had one in stock. I told him what time we would be coming in to see the vehicle and we asked for him when we got there. Only one salesman approached us, asked if he could help us, He paged Darek when we told him who we were there to see. No other salesman approached us after that. Derek was very knowledgable about the vehicle we had selected and took the time to show us the car and answer any questions that we had. After the test drive, he answered more questions from us that came up after we drove the car, we sealed the deal. After completing the paperwork Darek again took the time we needed to have to show us the features of the cars electronics. He even paired our cell phones to the vehicle. It was a pleasure dealing with Darek. He made the car buying experience an easy one. No pressure to buy, knowledgable about the product , and very friendly. He took the time to explain anything that we asked . He gave a tour of the facility and showed us the service department and the car wash . We left the dealership with a new car and a feeling that we made a good deal at a fair price. Thanks to Darek we would not hesitate to recommend McGrath Honda as a place to buy a car. read more

Received the most magnificent and incredible customer service experience from Monika Krysinska ( Service Consultant) at McGrath Honda, Elgin, IL She is extremely knowledgeable, gracious, caring and kind. She greeted me the moment me as i arrived at the Service facility for my first service appointment of my new 2020 Honda CRV. She explained all the details of the service that was going to be done and when the car would be done. She walked me around the facility, the waiting lounge, the amenities/ refreshments and the washrooms locations at the Dealership/Service Centre. She ensured i was comfortable and well looked after during the wait. As promised the car was done at the time she had indicated and she informed me right away providing me all the details/papers of what was done and what the findings of the Service Technicians were and that everything looked good and there were no concerns at this point. I have visited tons of Service Centers and Car Dealerships during my 30 year plus driving experience but never experienced such world class customer service. There is nothing bad I can say about the McGrath experience. My parent's first purchase was a 1983 Honda Accord hatchback. The next purchase was a 1990 Accord 4 door, all my own cars have been Honda's which I carried into my married life. In over a 40 year relationship with McGrath (mine and my parents) we have never had anything but top level service on all sides of the business. From them giving me a great deal when I was 19 and not the most financially sound, to the best prices on trade ins, warranties and add ons, to standing behind their product in the service. Mr. McGrath started his business and built loyalty on doing what is right not on screwing the customer and he passed this on to his family which works there. That is the blueprint of success. A few people I would like to thank Christian in sales, Dave in finance, my man Jerry in service, and some many others who want your experience nothing but the best. My husband called and schedule an appointment with Ray for a recall and maintenance on code B127. He was told I needed an oil change and tire rotation and he then asked for an estimate. They told him $60-$70 dollars. I went in to drop my car off and was now told by Jason that it was going to cost $440. He told me I need 2 filters changed and brake fluid change. I left and my husband came to pick me up and I told him the cost. He said "no way". He then went in and asked why an oil change and tire rotation is $440 when he was told $60-$70 to clear the code. They explained the above and he said did you look at the filters? Did you check the brake fluid? How do you know it needs to be changed. Jason said because the codes tell us they do. My husband told them to do the recall only and we'd go elsewhere for maintenance. We then called Schaumburg Honda and asked them and they said they should check before and not assume it needs to be changed. They should ask if you want the filters checked and the brake fluid checked then call with an estimate if they truly needed maintenance. I truly feel McGrath tried to take advantage of me being a female and didn't expect my husband to come in and take charge. Then they treated me terribly when I went in to pick up the car. They did the recall on the gas pump and now my car has a hesitation when I start the care. read more

McGrath Honda in Elgin is the most unethical business I have ever ALMOST purchased from. ZERO honesty! ZERO integrity! ZERO moral principals! ZERO moral uprightness when dealing with them. If you are considering or contemplating purchasing a car there -- DO NOT! If you are in the middle of buying a car -- DO NOT buy it! If you recently bought a car there return it! Save yourself a lot aggravation, anger and disappointment. I have been a doctor for more than 30 years and we work and live by a code of ethics and honesty. This dealership has no code of ethics and has no honesty! Their Salesman Robin and manager Lee are two prime examples of why people hate used car salesman. If there are any honest salespeople there-- they should find another job. I will make sure anyone and everyone hears my story so nobody makes the mistake of purchasing a car from McGrath! It is for worth your while to shop at a more reputable dealership-- even if you need to pay a little more money for your purchase! This is the first time I have ever left any business with negative review. They will agree to sell you a vehicle at a certain price, and then sell it right out from under you to someone else they can con into paying a higher price. Like most people, I don't look forward to the car buying experience. The first and only way to avoid an unpleasant process is to find a sales associate that is pleasant, personable and willing to listen in regards to your needs. I truly found that in Kevin Schwartz at McGrath Honda. I came in looking for a certified used 2012 Honda Accord SE. Kevin was thorough in providing me with answers to any and all of my questions. I explained to him that my time was limited. He promptly retrieved the vehicle, we took it for a test drive, went back to his office and started the paperwork. Once again, conversing with someone that can make you feel comfortable while you're about to make a sizable purchase makes all the difference in the world. As I was pulling out with my new car, I realized that there were no floor mats. Kevin acted immediately. None were currently in stock, but they were ordered immediately. I was contacted by the parts department that they had arrived. I explained that again, my time was limited, and asked if somebody would be there to install them for me. I haven't had a brand new car since the 1974 Gremlin X that my Dad bought me when I was sixteen years old. Up until now, I have always bought used cars. So, when I decided to buy a new car, I took the task very seriously. I started off this summer test driving every car from every dealer on Golf and Higgins Road in Schaumburg. I kept a detailed notebook of what I liked and disliked about every car and dealership that I visited. I narrowed it down to two cars. The Ford Focus and the Honda Civic. I settled on the Civic. I recently purchased my second Honda Accord from Mgrath Honda in Elgin and had a great experience. I purchased a 2014 accord from them before but got in a bad accident and my car was totaled and I didn't get the gap insurance(GET THE GAP INSURANCE) so I was stuck with a balance after my insurance wrote me a check for the value of my car. They were able to work with Honda Financial who I previously financed my car with and rolled over the balance to my new loan and refunded me extended warranties I purchased on the first car and gave me the best price on a brand new Honda Accord which I'm in love with already. Everyone there was professional and made the nightmare of totaling a car hassle free for me and kept there word and gave me the best deal. After looking for some time, I had my heart set on getting a 2016 Honda HRV, knowing full well that they were difficult to get ones hands on.
