I don't even know where to start. I thought after 4 years they would have gotten their act together but I was wrong. I should have known to ask if Mohammed aka "Mo" was still the sales manager here because I would have ran out of there! I was looking for a 2020 Honda Pilot Elite AWD for my wife and came here to see what they could do for me. BIG MISTAKE! As I said earlier Mo was still there so I should have known. A little back story before I get to what just happened a week ago. 4 years ago I came to this dealership to purchase my Accord and dealt with Darek (Upgrade Specialist), test drove the Accord, loved it so was ready to purchase the vehicle on the spot. I had a Truecar certificate so I knew what I was looking to pay. When I showed Darek the certificate he didn't bat an eye, he said ok no problem this should be a quick and easy process. NOPE! Mohammed the Sales Manager came in and started being his sleazy self and was trying to tell me I can't and won't get the car for that price. He then proceeded to get angry and stormed out of the office. I obviously left but before I left Darek apologized for Mo's actions. I eventually went to another dealership, got the vehicle I wanted and I went back to Mo and gave him a copy of the contract, just to show him that not everyone is as stupid as he thinks they are. So fast forward 4 years later and I didn't even think to ask if Mo was still employed! Baffled that he still is! Spoke to Alec and Nicole who were tag teaming the deal for a 2020 Honda Pilot Elite AWD. I at this point didn't know that Mo was still employed so I asked Alec/Nicole to run some numbers and send them to me via email so i can compare to the 2 other dealerships I reached out to. When I got the email back from Nicole with the numbers I instantly knew Mo was still there. They were $3,800 more than the other dealerships (The other 2 dealerships were only a couple hundred dollars apart from each other) When I asked Nicole if Mo was still the Sales Manager and she said yes I knew right then I was getting fleeced again!! Then to top it all off the payments I was quoted for 60 and 72 months were $200 more than the competitions! I mean I can't make this garbage up!! I know my views/comments and for that matter anyone else's review of your dealership really falls on deaf ears but I'm hoping enough people read all the reviews and stop coming to your dealership. Then when you look back you will realize what your lack of accountability and action really did. I know until then you will continue to screw people over. You send a standard response when you respond to reviews (just look at their responses to the reviews), no meat and bones to your responses. Mo is the poster child for the term "Sleazy Car Salesman." You all at McGrath should be embarrassed on behalf of him. He has done more harm then good and I understand that not everyone realizes that he is screwing them over but eventually there will be enough word of mouth (trust me everyone I have seen over the holidays has been told this story) and I will continue to make sure every single person I come in contact with knows not to buy a car from any McGrath dealerships! I will also make sure to post the same review on all my social media and google platforms! Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice shame on me! Another note.... I bought the Pilot from another dealership with all the accessories I wanted and after I told them the story of McGrath, they threw in free oil changes for my 1st year. All for exactly $3,912.24 less than Mo's so called bargain deal! They also wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to Mo for effectively referring so many customers to the competition! We'd been looking for a Honda Odyssey for a few weeks, so we knew the KBB value for a 2019 EX-L, and we knew what they'd been listed for in the area. We'd made an appointment with Christian, who knew we were coming, but then wasn't there when we arrived around 7pm. We then were assigned to Alec, who was actually delightful to work with, but really didn't have much of a say in the negotiation of the car (or at least implied as much). We offered close to the asking price, knowing we were already using a combo of cash down and outside pre-approved financing. Should've been an easy deal for both sides, but Mohammed, the sales manager, came in and blocked it, saying they couldn't offer more than $100 off the list price because "the internet has changed car buying." We were unimpressed. In the end, we were able to come to an agreement, and we decided to buy the car, but that was not the end of our troubles with McGrath. Even though I'd had pre-approved financing at a rate well-below anything they could offer, they said I needed "backup financing" if I wanted to drive away with the car, because it was after-hours. This is where I made a mistake. I should've called my lender, because they were open until midnight and could've easily saved us an hour. But instead, they did a hard pull on my credit and put together a back-up financing package that would be voided at 8am today, when my lender sent the money over as requested. There was no reason they couldn't have done it last night. When I called my lender today, he said this was highly unusual, although David in the finance department at McGrath claims it's company policy and common practice in Illinois. This is the 4th car I've purchased in Illinois and I've never had to do backup financing. It took over four hours to get this deal done. And I'm pregnant. It was totally ridiculous. Aside from Alec, this place is a hot mess and I would not recommend you purchase a car here. read more

I've bought a couple cars from this dealership in the past and still take vehicles here for service. Their service staff (consultants and mechanics) are great! Very friendly and professional. I find it humorous that there are negative reviews for this dealership from people who never went in the store and were just getting online/ over the phone pricing on cars and were upset they didn't get the price they wanted. To me that's not a valid reason to give them a bad review. That's the same as me going to a grocery store and complaining their milk is more expensive than the store across the street. He listened but did seem to care. I'm glad this happened. I took this family right over to a Chrysler dealer and they were treated well. AFTER YOU BUY A CAR FROM THEM, THEY WON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT YOU. I purchased my car about a year ago, very happy with my vehicle. Even though the financing process was messy, they were able to help me and even gave me extra fixings for my car. I left with my car, extremely satisfied. However, I didn't realize that they didn't give me my registration card. A year went by, thankfully I wasn't pulled over so there was no need for me to pull out my registration, but it's time for me to renew my car. I now live in California and need to switch over registration, and since I didn't have Title or registration, I was unable to complete my registration. So I called McGrath Honda this morning to see if they could help me with this: either give me my registration or a copy of my title. The call was immediately directed to a sales person. I didn't catch her name, but I was received with rudeness. The girl sounded tired, lazy, and uncaring. I know it's Monday morning but if you're a salesperson, bring some enthusiasm to the workplace if you want to make a sale, but probably because I wasn't there to purchase a vehicle, she didn't give a crap about me. She was very rude, even when I told her "thank you" she responded with "uh huh." So she transferred me to a guy in the finance department. I told him about my situation. He said he will have someone call me back because he had a customer there and that I wasn't important enough for his attention. I was flabbergasted. I told him I was a customer, too, and that this is of urgent need. HE HUNG UP ON ME. At this point I was livid! So I called back and asked to speak to a General Manager. He didn't pick up, so I left a voicemail, telling him how badly I was treated and that I will leave Google and Yelp reviews. I URGE YOU TO RECONSIDER GOING HERE. Because after they scammed you into purchasing their vehicles, they won't give a crap about you. UPDATE: This review is in no way a reflection of the entire store. The General Manager, Mark Phillips, was very kind and helped me resolve my issue. He called me back right away and promptly issued by registration card. I like to give honest feedback, so I want to make sure this doesn't reflect poorly on all the staff, just certain ones. Service ONLY review: although purchasing our car and the financing group especially stunk, I really have to give McGrath Honda Service major props. They have so many technicians working and such a huge facility that you can very easily get a same day appointment. It's really convenient. For the same reasons, once you get in, service is much quicker than at other dealerships. Finally, while you are waiting, the chairs are comfy, the tvs are aplenty, the kids area is grant and there are full size waters...Full Size, I don't see that very many places any more. My wife was in here a couple of days ago looking to purchase a car. She asked to look at three or four vehicles before she settled upon a 2018 Honda CRV (listed around $25k). However, her sales person was quite short with her about having to pull out vehicles. She saw the first two and didn't quite like them, and politely asked if she could see another. His response was quite short, "Well, I'll have to put these away first!" If you're a business trying to make sales, why is that an issue? While talking about the price of the car, he didn't want to engage with her. When he gave her the numbers, after all was said and done, the price had jumped from 25k to 30k. I get tax, title, and license, but that's not $5000. He has added in $800 security plan and a $2000 paint coating (which should have been talked about ahead of time), neither of which she wanted. She was then told they could takeoff the paint coating, but the security plan had to stay. It was already installed on all the vehicles. My wife still wanted to talk about the price, because that's a lot of money for a vehicle it's already three years old. Without the $2000 paint deal, it brought the price of the car down to around $28,800. My wife was hoping to do something closer to $27,000. That didn't mean that we weren't willing to pay more than that; we were just hoping they could work with a little bit on the price of the car. If you can't do that, then explain it in a manner that sounds like you are not angry or doing us a favor. At that point, given the poor treatment and unwillingness to really talk about it, her feeling was to go elsewhere. As she was leaving, somebody must've said something to our sales person, because she could hear him say, " You can go after them if you want, but I'm not going to." Everything about this salesperson said that he didn't want to deal with her. We are pretty loyal customers. If you are polite and honest with us, we can understand. However, the whole deal with not really explaining the paint coating and the security plan coupled with this person's treatment of my wife are enough for us not to return or recommend this place to friends in the area. You could've received several vehicles purchases from of us over the years. We eventually did receive a text from our sales person, and he said that somebody in management would reach out to us. However we never heard anything. The next day our sales person did reach out to us and ask what could be done to bring our business back. Today, he emailed her and said he tried to work with her on the price, but that they can't give everyone a free car. We weren't looking for a free car, and you need to explain things more effectively. We went to another dealership in the area. They were polite, willing to answer our questions, show several vehicles, and talk about us with the price. They were upfront and said there really isn't much they could be done on the price right now (and explained why), but they were polite about it and we felt like valued customers. We bought our car from them. And, will buy several more over time. read more

Buyer beware! Watch out for hidden costs when buying out your lease. We leased 2 Honda Civics in 2014 and went to pay off the lease and they added $500 onto each car for "dealership fees". They also added a 4-year "dents and dings" package without asking us first. This was after Aldo in sales wasted at least an hour unable to answer our questions about the change in the law regarding paying taxes twice. He also added up the numbers for the pay off completely wrong and the man in the finance department had completely different numbers. I wouldn't buy from them again, especially since I asked them several times when we first leased the cars about the pay off amount. They lied. Period. Update: I called Honda Financial Services and they informed me that all I have to do is pay off the lease -I was able to do it on-line and send in an odometer form. I didn't have to "pay off my lease and still have to buy the car" as I was told by McGrath. I called McGrath and cancelled the deal-I stopped payment on my check. My savings? $1800 read more

Stay far away. This dealership is dishonest. First of all if you purchase a new vehicle they include their own accessories and services ( around $1200.00) to the vehicle's price and you supposedly can not remove from final pricing. The accessories are garbage! Part of their "bonus" services are lifetime car washes, does a horrible job, leaves many areas on back of car untouched. Good luck in winter time they won't open car wash unless it is 34 degrees outside. Somehow all the surrounding car washes stay open below 34 degrees! Do your research there are quite a few dealers doing the same thing with accessory packages. Then there is the finance department that tries to tell you that your new 3 year / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty is really only good for the first year, even if you put 5 miles on it! Then they pull out their extended warranty package and try starting at a "great" price of $4000.00 dollars. After refusing to purchase it 4 times,offers it at $1400.00!!!! It's too bad this dealership turned so slimy. My family thru the years have purchased vehicles from The McGrath family of dealerships and had good experiences. Since I can't give it zero stars.. although i wish I could. Their Customer Service is a!$ backwards. I called because there was an issue with my battery and it took them 2 days to diagnosis it, fine because I got a rental. It took 2 days and me calling to find out the status or anything - I called and was told my advisor would call me back as he was on the phone, fine. TWO hours later a call came in from a "United Kingdom" phone number? Why would I answer a number that begins with +44 562? Makes no sense. Then an hour later another call just to tell me they know the issue of what was wrong with my car. I called back only to find out my advisor was gone for the day and I kept getting transferred, finally I got transferred to another advisor JUST to be put on hold for 7 plus minutes and i hung up. I called back AGAIN another hour later to be out on hold for another 5 minutes with someone who had no idea what I was calling about since my original advisor went home. He said it should be done by today. SIX hours later I had to call to see if it was ready and the girl transferred me to another girl who transferred me to a voicemail? Then it hung up and I had to call again - once I finally got through they said my car was ready and I can pick it up anytime. Okay, thanks for the notice? I get here in 30 minutes and I've now waited 45 minutes for my car when the guy said "I just have to go get your keys" meanwhile walking in and everyone's on their phone texting and chit chatting - so this is why no one called me or I kept getting transferred let alone sitting in the waiting room for close to an hour now? It was a simple just putting a new battery in. Once I finally asked where my car was NO ONE KNEW. It literally took 5 different people trying to figure out where my car was.. this is ridiculous and I'll never come here again. WHY would i have to ask "where's my car?" And NOONE knowing where it was. This was the most obnoxious and inconvenient experience I've ever had with ANY Honda service. read more

The only thing that good was the salesman with a good deal on the car, only reason getting 2 stars. Other then that it's has been nothing but problems. Not even 3 months of having the car, car loses control in a snow storm and hit a curb because of the weak tires. So ended up being a couple of thousands to fix the car and I asked if they can put some new tires on the car since it was the source of the accident, they told me they put new tires on there when they sold the car. So they didn't want to do that. Then the rental car. I drop the rental off for not even 25 mins and I call to come back to get my house keys that slipped out my pocket. Then when I get there, they rented out the car I had. Didn't clean it. Didn't check it. Didn't sanitize. Then I come to find out the person that rented the car I had, they are 10 mins away from Indiana. So I had to go all the way to the persons house to get my keys. 2 hrs there and 2 hrs back. Why did they even get a rental from elgin!?!?! I get it, I should of triple check the car before I left, but it's COVID-19 time. They should of properly cleaned the car out and Sanitize. Now I'm thinking they didn't clean the car before they gave it to me. That's nasty. I will be seeing about talking to someone about this because I don't think this is how a Honda should be about. I was not impressed by their car buying service through the internet. I had some questions and Brittany was very responsive via text and email; however, Mohammad called me to work out some pricing and tried to sell me on a package that was totally unnecessary (included flashing 'safety brakes' that I find completely annoying and hugely overpriced. Anyone can do an internet search and see they are very cheap to put in and install). He said I could get the package at 50% off - originally $1400+ because I was an internet customer. I said I do not want it and he said it's already been installed in the cars. He was condescending and not responsive to my needs in a car. The next day, I contacted Brittany to ask about a car that was showing on the internet that was the color I wanted and she sent me the link to a different car that LOOKs like and said it was the one I wanted. (Another dealer tried to get me that car, was told it was sold, but I wasn't sure if Elgin just didn't want to trade on a busy weekend so wanted to see if they would sell us that car). I asked her to double check because of what we had heard and she admitted her mistake saying it was the wrong color (hard to tell unless you looked at the description) and she'd get back to me. She then sent me a different color car and asking what I thought about that one instead. Sorry - we don't do bait and switch. If you don't have the car, just say so and be okay with not getting the sale. Consumers are too saavy these days and hate playing games. It's convinced me not to ever shop at this dealer even though we may be in the market for several cars in the next few years (aka teenagers). read more

In September 2018, I received a nail in my passenger rear tire and I took it to a non-authorized local repair shop I have dealt with numerous times and trust, to have it replaced. They replaced the tire and my Tire Pressure Monitoring System light came on. The repair shop told me to drive on it for at least a half hour at speeds from 30-60 miles and hour and it will automatically re-adjust. I did so and it didn't reset. I took it back to the repair shop and the manager couldn't get it to turn off. We both tried holding the switch down and it never flashed to reset. The switch just didn't work as it should have. He recommended me taking it to a Honda dealer and replace it under warranty. I took it to Mueller Honda in Highland Park, IL, because they are close to me. Two Mueller Honda service employees looked at it and couldn't figure it out. They asked a senior tech to look at it and found that a wire attached to the switch was not reattached after the installation of an aftermarket alarm system put in. I told them it wasn't an alarm system. I explained we had an aftermarket remote start system installed, which I purchased from McGrath Honda in Elgin, a month after I purchased the vehicle from them. Mueller Honda's service writer wrote up a detailed explanation of the wire not being attached and that it was not reconnected due to the remote start being installed by the McGrath Elgin location. I spoke with numerous service managers (Kelly, Scott, and I believe, Ron) at McGrath in Elgin. Kelly spoke to me in a condescending tone asking me what she wanted me to do as I had gone to other shops. I told her I was not trying to scam them out of any money, but to get a legitimate refund back. She and I brought the situation back to a reasonable tone and she said she'd have her manager call me. After I had to follow up after a few days, Ron called me back finally and said the switch must have worked after they did the 2 tire rotations last year at their location, because they have to reset the pressure using the switch after every rotation. I had both tire rotations done at the Elgin location. I told Ron I've purchased 2 Honda vehicles through McGrath (one at another location), and was not asking for an unreasonable refund. Even after stating I'd have to seriously reconsider buying another Honda due to the lack of customer service over $140. He wouldn't budge at all. Mind you, I'm very reasonable, as I've worked in retail. I kept my cool through all of this. I never touched or replaced anything in that area & neither did the local repair shop that replaced my tire. Beyond this, I had 2 other issues with McGrath in the past since owning this vehicle as well. The day we purchased the vehicle from this Elgin location , they explained they lost one of the FOBs for starting the car and would call me when they found it, but I'd have to drive back out to pick it up 2 weeks later. I live about 65 miles away. An 1 1/2 hour drive. The second issue was with McGrath City Honda. After rotating tires at that location, they kept my wheel locks and would not mail them to me, so I had to turn around and drive back to get them. Another hour round trip. Agreed, it's not the Elgin dealership, but be warned. Also, All the McGrath dealerships have nothing to do with one another. Don't expect any help from each other. I have absolutely no reason to visit this location again, nor any other McGrath dealership. Honda, as a corporation, can thank McGrath for losing me as a lifetime customer and I'll make sure to spread the word to make sure no one else has to go through the terrible service and time wasted. read more

She took it to her manager and they "crunched" the numbers and somehow came up with an overall new price/ IT WAS A HIGHER out the door price than before! When asked for communication & numbers clarification, she did text send me a dealership breakdown on price. Had I not calculated the numbers myself, I might not have seen the $2000.(approx.) increase! Sarcasm. This business is shady, full of false hopes and communication which never took place. They will prey on the ignorant. Oh, also they put extra and waaaaaay over priced extras on all their vehicles which I did not want. Kim told me that I HAD to pay for the add-ons which I did not want. As you pull up you are greeted with what can only be described as a pristine car dealership. The lot is clean, easy to get to right off of 90 and Randall, and has a lot of amenities. Their showroom is beautiful and well organized. Before I would buy a car here, I checked out their maintenance area. When you pull in for maintenance, it is a large multi-lane garage that appears to be able to easily accommodate 20+ cars and it is well staffed. I love that I wouldn't be sitting out in the elements and that these people were willing to hustle. The waiting area is AMAZING! There is free bottled water and fresh baked cookies (seriously - they brought them out hot). Screw popcorn - the cookies were a sweet touch (pun intended). They even have a glass room for kids that has iPads, a train table, Legos, and a television playing kid shows. I also noticed that people were cleaning, stocking the water/cookies, making sure the entire place was tidy. Even the bathroom was spotless (I know this because my three year old decided to fill her diaper while we checked out the Passport). I had the privilege of working with Jim Diller. Jim D. is kind and patient. He knowledgably answered all of my questions about each of the cars I was interested in. He helped me compare and contrast models and trim levels and made solid recommendations without being pushy. I felt like we were having a conversation and not a sales experience which I LOVED. Jim D. didn't talk down to me because I was a woman and he didn't make ignorant comments like "it's got plenty of pep, Little Lady" when I asked about the engine, torque, or horsepower behind the vehicles. Jim D. was a true gentleman with a positive attitude, great disposition, and a true desire to educate his customers and not just sell them something. You could tell immediately that Jim D. took great pride in his work and enjoyed it. I even met the sales manager, Jim Martinez. Jim M. was charming, quick witted, and wanted to make sure I had no questions or concerns. I very much liked that Jim M. came to make sure I was satisfied even though I already agreed to purchase the car. That was blatantly superior customer service. We didn't meet because he was trying to close a deal, we met because Jim M. wanted to interact with his customers. Finance - I worked with Scott in finance. He moved things along quickly and efficiently. I was impressed with McGrath Honda's use of technology - most of my transaction was done on an iPad. Scott was informative and told me what each document was, what it meant, and did not get frustrated when I wanted to read every line. There were zero surprises. Scott was top-notch and really helped solidify that this organization is a well-oiled machine from top to bottom (again pun intended). It was 8:00 pm when I picked up my car. I have always been told, never take possession of a car when it is dark because you can't see any blemishes or issues. Not a problem at McGrath Honda. You take delivery in a special garage off the showroom which is well-lit and temperature controlled. They pulled my old SUV next to the new one and I was able to transfer my belongings. I was also able to inspect my new SUV and I was impressed to see it was impeccable (freshly washed, rims were shiny, tires were oiled (is that a thing? - the tires were shiny too - Haha!)). Before I went into finance, Jim D. had this handy checklist of settings for the SUV (auto-lock, auto-unlock, headlights, radio stations, power lift gate, etc). While I was in finance, Jim D. was programming my car with all my preselected settings. I was able to come out of finance and focus on learning all the new features my new ride had versus setting up all the settings - it was a huge time saver. Jim D. took me through my new features that weren't on my old Pilot, explaining how to use it, how it was different than my old SUV, etc. He again exhibited the same knowledgeable patient demeanor that I respected so much during the sales process. From beginning to end, McGrath Honda and their team (Jim D, Jim M, Scott, and the support staff who relentlessly cleaned the showroom/waiting room/bathroom) impressed me. My wife and I were in the market for a used CRV. We found a nice 2019 that caught our interest, and proceeded to inquire about the dealership and set up an appointment to come to the dealership and check out the vehicle. We walk in the dealership, and we are greeted by the salesman. After a few moments we were informed the car that we had made a reservation to look at, had somehow been loaned out to a customer who's car was being serviced. We asked when the car would be returned, and we were told nearly a week later, that the car still isn't back yet. We ended up buying from a different dealer, for a much lower price. I'm just in awe after telling him that we were ready to buy, that the salesman didn't do whatever it took to get the car back and give them a different loaner vehicle. Just to put this into better perspective, We first visited the dealership on a Thursday, and didn't get a response about the status of the car until the following Wednesday. Came to check out the certified 2014 Honda Odyssey. Booked an appointment at 1 pm with (sales rep) and I reached there a few minutes late. The sales rep received me and asked me to wait since he was tending to another customer. I was then made to wait for around 40 min till 1:50 (!!!!) while he was closing a deal with another customer. I had carved time out of my workday to check out the vehicle and that is why I had booked an appointment. Customer's time and effort should be respected after booking an appointment and honestly, I don't have the time and patience to deal with such a dealership experience. If this is the way, Mcgrath treats its customers, I don't want to be a customer! I walked right out without even seeing the vehicle. read more

We leased a Honda Accord from McGrath Honda of Elgin, and we were satisfied with the car. Upon return, they were asking us if we want to get into a new vehicle. When we advised that we have purchased another vehicle already, they were dumbfounded that we would do something like that. I thought that approach was a little rude. The biggest gripe that I have is on the $200 lease coupon. We matched all the criteria, and even discussed it with the sales manager who advised that we would be getting a check in the mail. Did not happen. We filled out the coupon request, and called to follow up and have still not received it. McGrath will not receive anymore of my business. Shocking. My husband and I were in the market for a used car this weekend, and had several potential cars to look at on Saturday. One of those cars was in Elgin at McGrath Honda. Now mind you, I live in Park Forest - 68 miles and more than an hour away. Well, we decided to make the drive out there first - go long, work your way back home. I CALLED before heading out there. I spoke to a man named Andy who I later found out worked in the Internet Sales department. I point blank asked him if a specific car was there and available for sale, and he put me on hold. After a minute, he returned and told me that "yes, it is available for sale". Great. We're going to come look at it! He wanted to know when, and I told him how long it should be before we arrived, and how far away we were coming from. He said that would be fine and he would have the car ready for us to test drive. We arrived a little more than an hour later and I asked to speak to Andy as he was the person I spoke with on the phone. I'm asked to sit tight for a minute - someone would go get him from me. Several minutes later, the man who greeted us returned and told us that Andy had just filled him in on which car we were looking to see, and that he thought it was in the Service Department. Hmmm. Funny - I wasn't told that when I called earlier. We mentioned how strange that was given my earlier conversation with Andy, and he said he'd be right back - he had to check on something. He comes right back and says that yes, it is in fact in the Service area - apparently, there is something wrong with its power steering. Once I questioned why I wasn't told that when I called, he excused himself again, asking for 5 - 10 minutes to get to the bottom of this situation. Minutes later, that salesperson returns with BACKUP - but not Andy, the person I spoke with on the phone - and proceeds to let my husband and I know that yes, the car has NO POWER STEERING and is currently ON A LIFT - but would we like to go look at it? I ask him how I am supposed to test drive a car with no power steering, and he agrees that yes, that will be difficult - but could we wait around a few hours for it to be repaired? And in the meantime, would we like to look at something else? A new Honda, perhaps? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Well, after getting the name of the Owner / person in charge (Dave McGrath), we left. I intend to write a letter to Mr. McGrath, making him aware of the shady business practices of his salesmen. If he already knows and doesn't care, let this be a warning to you all. McGrath Honda of Elgin is shady as hell. That appears to be obvious by their rating here on Yelp. You've been warned. read more

This place was terrible... FOR USED CARS!!!!! If you go to McGrath, I'd recommend Anthony as a sales rep. He was very patient with us did a great job working with us. When the Manager came out to run numbers with us, they wouldn't work with us on the price. Only when we got up to leave did they change their mind and decided to work with us... THEN when we got to the financial people and they where so hell bent on her paying for an extended warranty. They're to aggressive with their customers. After telling them over and over we weren't interested in the extended warranty they were offering, they brought in another person to try and sell it. After arguing with them and telling them no, they finally stopped pushing us. If you customer tells you no, they're not interested in something, that should be enough to stop and move on! In my opinion, the financial department was very unprofessional on how they worked with us and how they treated us that evening. read more

I am unfortunately the duke if this place had my car in 2 times in the last year for service. Both times over $1500 in repairs for a small part best part when I come pickup the car it's $300 more than estimate and they didn't even wash my car?? read more

I made an appointment but when I showed up, it wasn't listed and I was at the bottom of the queue. But what makes this dealership the worst I have ever been to was the lack of basic customer service. This is the first dealership I have ever been to that did not offer water to its customers. No water anywhere. Coffee? Even if my kid can drink coffee, it's all out. The vending machine only takes $1, so I asked the cashier to break a ten dollar bill for the vending machine, but she said she could not help me. So here I am, spending $116 for tire rotation, some kind of break fluid change, and my free oil change (which was part of the $5000 Honda service package I purchased that apparently doesn't even cover tire rotation), and McGrath Honda couldn't bother to put a water cooler for its customers, and its cashiers were too busy chatting to get off their chairs to provide some basic customer service that would take no more than 30 seconds. I do not plan to come back here again, ever. For the fact that the owner and the manager are too cheap to offer water, and that they failed to train their employees about serving their customers at the Service department. read more

So my Honda Civic was part of the takata air bag recall & these guys were relentless about calling me to get it taken care of. It was really annoying to be honest. They were calling as least every week. I set the appointment up just to get them to stop calling me. I probably wouldn't have gone to get it done otherwise though so I suppose it was a good thing over all. Even if it was irritating as hell. The service center itself was good. They have a really nice set up for their waiting area, lots of outlets to plug in your tech (had to charge my phone & the outlet was right next to a comfy arm chair) , and they got me out 40 minutes sooner than their estimated time. I've been here before to have my car serviced and while this is never a fun thing to do they do make it as painless as possible. The other reason I typically come here is that their service center is big enough that they have a lot of flexible appointment times. I'd send people here for the, service department anyway, just for that. Makes life so much easier when I don't have to skip classes or take off of work to take my car in. I just wish they didn't call so much. read more
