I was blown away by Mecha's food - the flavor, the variety and choices for all types of eaters (vegetarian or non-pork) are huge. The wait is a bit long, so expect a 30 minute wait during peak hours. We started with an appetizer round of steamed baos, which are these white fluffy buns around a choice of meat and veg. We tried the shitake mushroom and korean fried chicken baos. Both delicious. I highly recommend the Korean fried chicken version - it was slightly spicy and sweet and had a nice contrast of crispiness against the soft bun. We tried 3 types of noodle soups: Pho Sizzle (flank steak with short ribs), Pho King (fermented short ribs with brisket add-on), and the Spicy Beef Ramen (brisket, chili beef broth). The grilled and slow-cooked meats were incredible. Most Vietnamese pho places add thinly sliced rare meat to the broth, which is traditional, but you end up with chewy meat. Stopped in here on a Saturday early afternoon shortly after they opened. We were seated right away and they were very accommodating with kids! They are no jacket hooks at the seats but you can leave your jackets by the entrance. Service was very friendly. They offered to explain the menu and answer any questions. We ordered the spicy miso ramen, tonkatsu ramen, and steamed pork belly baos. The food took a while to come out even though the restaurant was relatively empty when we were first seated. The spicy miso broth lacked depth and overall just tasted salty. The chashu slices were on the leaner side which I appreciated. Noodles were chewy and cooked perfectly. Found this around the corner from our hotel and was happy we found it. Staff is so friendly and attentive. When they noticed one of our orders was late, they comped it. Really yummy hip place. Not cheap at all but definitely great flavors and food. Bathrooms were really clean! The whole place has a lot of wood hanging from the ceiling and on the wall. Made me feel like I was inside of a marimba. I would not call this place authentic, but it's still a good choice. It's really loud inside and the staff are super attentive. Almost to a fault because they kept clearing things and I lost two pairs of chopsticks to them before my ramen even arrived. I don't get why they don't have reusable chop sticks, the paper covers really add up on your table and there's no trash can. The high top tables have hooks for jackets but they are magnetic. On one hand you can move them, on the other hand you can't hang heavy items. There's a section of coat hooks in the airlock though. I went with a large party and tried the spring rolls (decent, not impressed), red oil dumplings (tasted like a meatball with delicious sauces and cilantro), and fried crab cake potato mush ball thing (good crust and very smooth and creamy on inside, don't expect lump crab meat), as well as the pork broth ramen (good! ), And the spicy beef ramen ( I loved it and it went down fast). Great experience with dope music (whoever is the DJ has good taste!), after a long day of flying cross country I was starving hangry and came across this hidden gem I couldn't find on Yelp when searching for Asian food. I had the pork belly bao, which was country, zingy, and sweet, cooked to a crisp and perfectly paired with the Temple of the Sun drink (unspiked no tequila) which was a sweet refreshing splash of pineapple and passionfruit with boba. The pho sizzle (beef) was a generous serving and also good, though the beef were huge chunks and could have been cut thinner, it was really filling and just what I needed on a day of rain, hail, and traveling. The staff was really nice recommending me their favorites and giving me wet naps without my asking (they knew just what I needed). The upstairs portion of the restaurant is smaller, but more private, still has the matched noise level of the music. I got in at the right time too with zero wait, by the time I left there was a line out the door, must be a popular place for a good reason! All-in-all, I'm really happy at my first Asian food experience in Boston. At first I was stumped where to go and was on my way to what looked like a hip Mexican bar, about being from California, I'm super picky about anything looking super trendy Asian or Mexican food. The restaurant has a mix of folks dining so it was good to see this also hitting more a mainstream audience. The ambiance is really cool, with interesting fixtures hanging from the ceiling and an open layout with the bar off to the side. The vibe of the restaurant is rustic with wood and metal features all around but the seating isn't great. The seats are just stools on the ground with no backs and there is a community table that you can get randomly sat at. The bar is not first come first serve either so it can be tough to be seated without a wait! We made a last minute decision to get dinner at Mecha noodle bar after seeing a lot of other restaurants had waits. We were lucky to get seated immediately. I got the pho tai with brisket ($4 extra). The soup was savory and tasty (can't speak to its authenticity) and the noodles were well cooked. Overall it was a very smooth tasting, comforting dish. The rare meat was in strips rather than thin slices, but was pretty good. The brisket was kind of disappointing -- for $4 extra, they gave me two pieces of pure fat and only one piece of actual meat. I also got the temple drink (non-alcoholic version) with passionfruit, pineapple, and boba. It tastes exactly as you would expect and is on the sweeter side. It's not a boba specialty shop so don't expect anything amazing, but it does its job and is probably quite good as a cocktail. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the pho. It hit the spot on a cold day and wasn't too heavy. I wouldn't get the brisket again, though, if that's their typical brisket composition. read more

Plenty street parking around if you have the patience. 4/5 - Beef noodle - Fantastic dish with plenty of garlic flavor and supreme sweet and sour mesh with fish sauce that is the essence of viet fare. The tanginess is very refreshing and wouldn't be able to stop eating if didn't have to split 4 ways. Definitely mix the whole dish with spoon as soon as you can so you can immerse yourself in this delicious dish. 4/5 - TONKOTSU 2.0 - Almost everything was perfect with this ramen. The most critical soup base was just right, deep white pork bone broth flavor, garlicy oil and how the soup has the slight thickness indicative a collagen from long boil. The noodles were perfect firmness, straight and the chewiness was just right. I was very impress with the sake infused egg, rich in flavor and you can definitely taste the sake and soy sauce marinade but I think they marinaded a bit too long since the sake flavor was actually pretty overpowering so I suggest to the team to not marinade so long or reduce the sake amount. The big miss was the chashu. It was...dry...biggest sin in my opinion is eating an almost perfect bowl of ramen but have it spoiled by dry chashu. It tasted like it came out of the freezer and wasn't juicy or retained any of the pork fatty flavor. 3/5 - Pho Tai - Definitely not the best Pho I've had. The big miss is the blandness of the soup. There's just no soul to it. I can't taste the amalgamation of toasted spices or the depth of flavor from slow boiled bone and meat broth. Another thing is the temperature of the pho should be boiling hot to really push that herbally aroma through the nostrils and the hot broth to warm the soul.
