We came here for dinner and got the fried potatoes for appetizer, the salmon tartare, burgers, and eggplant lasagna. The food was decent and the service was pretty good, but the atmosphere was the real seller. Huge inside and gorgeous with many lights outside in the outdoor area, we all really enjoyed the ambiance. Overpriced. I got the local chicken. It was definitely good but not $28 good, especially considering my mom could make something of the same caliber and she's definitely not a professional chef. The dessert was pretty good, I got flourless chocolate cake for $10. The ambience of the place was nice though. The best thing I will say is our server was extremely friendly and accommodating. I can say that I'm a fan of Mediterra, and that it is my favorite of the 3 restaurants in the Terra Momo group. And yet I can picture it being so much better. Sometimes location alone can drive success, and business owners do not always strive for excellence even though it is within reach. I've formed this opinion of Mediterra after at least 5 dinners there, last night being the most recent. A wine dinner here that I attended over a year ago was very close to 5 stars. But every other visit was about 4. And to be honest, if not for a few issues last night, this may have been just under 5. My dinner companion and I ordered 2 apps and 2 entrees. The apps were not great, one was not even very good. That would be the grilled octopus. The composition was good, heirloom cherry toms and shaved fennel, but the tentacle was way over cooked. I really should have sent it back, but was enjoying the company I was with too much to cause a fuss. The other app was s tuna ceviche that was very mild and fresh, but probably could have used a little umph. I might order again, definitely not the cephalopod though. Entrees came through to elevate the meal to fan status. I had scallops and they were generous with the portion, and the quality was above reproach. Composed and executed very well. The same can be said of my company's Za'tar chicken. Great portion, not over cooked, and well thought out items that completed the dish. I would order either of these anytime. Customer service here is ok, but I think it could be better. It seems to be a case of inconsistency, with some servers being great, others average, and some that should probably work in fast food. Our waiter was almost average, but for fine dining prices, he should have been excellent. Normally I would have come on a weekday, and probably to happy hour( Sangria is very good)for the tapas and reduced drink prices. So new diners should consider that option. Really beautiful restaurant with great service. Definitely sit outside in the warmer months. The menu is short and sweet but will definitely have something for everyone. The place is also a bit expensive so I usually go for special occasions or date nights. I ordered the Ricotta Gnocchi in the pesto sauce. Due to dining during COVID, I had made reservations well in advance and they even called me the day before to confirm. When my party got there, they lost my reservation and had to "fit us in" for seating despite me showing them phone conversations with the restaurant. Additionally, a waiter did not come to take our order until a very long time (had to request someone to come) the food was incredible and it's a cute spot but they need to do better with organization. read more

Mediterra has never really impressed me. I'd much rather pay a bit more and go to Elements or Agricola if I were looking for a nice dinner spot, or just go to a Teresa's for a more casual dinner. Happy hour specials are a steal ($2 tapas!) but honestly none of the specials were very food. Everything's super oily or fried (like the chickpea fritter which was drenched in oil and the fish kebabs, which were deep fried cubes of fish on a skewer). The chicken kebab was uninspired and dry. The desserts were overpoweringly sweet. My favorite were definitely the bacon wrapped dates, and that was about it. Plus it's a madhouse trying to find seats, since if you don't get a seat early, you pretty much just have to wait until a group finishes eating/talking and gets up and leaves from one of the 2 tall long tables in the back or the bar. And it's happy hour so everyone's there to chat for a while. Normal food didn't impress me either. The salmon was not as soft and juicy as other versions I've had in Princeton (Elements, Agricola, Winberies) and the chocolate fudge dessert was just too rich for more than 2 bites. None of the staff gives an eff about their job, and it's easy to see why. It took like 10 mins to even be greeted. The bread is store-bought, and their "bottled water service" is 100% tap water. If they have a filter, it hasn't been serviced in a LONG time because the water tastes like it came out of a garden hose. Management is cutting corners, and it shows. read more

Had lunch with wife there today. Ordered the fried calamari, grilled chicken sandwich (chicken panino), and pasta with prosciutto, mushrooms, etc. (fusilli ai funghi con panna) This place is known for its basket bread dipped in olive oil. That never disappoints. The fried calamari was also pleasing in both taste and sight. I especially liked the yellow sauce (waiter told me it was made by mixing lemon juice and mayonnaise). Portion and taste wise I like the fried calamari from the nearby Witherspoon Grill more. The grilled peppers and balsamic caramelized onions added interesting flavors to the grilled chicken sandwich my wife ordered. For my fusilli, I was expecting freshly sliced prosciutto but they actually tasted like salty bacon bits. The white wine sauce was interesting. Service was prompt and proper. When I came back after using the bathroom after the meal, I found my napkin was refolded and placed back on the table. read more

Mediterra is a nicely decorated Mediterranean-food themed restaurant. The staff is quite friendly and given Princeton's wealth of upscale restaurants, this ranks as one of the most popular. We went specifically with one item on the menu in mind: the paella. The dish came out well prepared. Unfortunately, compared to other paellas I have had it ranked in the lower tier. Given that not many restaurants in the area offer paella, it left the options limited. While the paella offered a good amount of meat and shellfish, the overall flavor was lacking and there was not enough juice in the dish. The lack of juice was a problem that really impacted the dish as the clams and mussels were fairly bland. The shrimp also lacked flavor and tasted more like cocktail shrimp. Some may enjoy their shrimp big, but I prefer mine bite size leaving them entirely too big for my taste. I also disliked the preparation of the chorizo given that they were chopped up. I am a big fan of sliced chorizo so by doing them that way, the dish would have been given a minor improvement. The chicken in the dish was fine, but the rice was too rough and crunchy. Given that rice is a key component of any paella and the lack of juice in the dish, I left a bit disappointed in the paella. The restaurant would be a great place to grab a glass of wine or a beer with a friend, but our dinner was a bit lacking. read more

Not surprised to find this as a 3 1/2 star on Yelp. I'll go for 3, would give 2.5 if the app allowed. My wife and I used to come here regularly when we lived nearby, at that time it was a solid 4.5 and someplace we always looked forward to when we were in the boro. We're now about 35 minutes away, but still head in Princeton for the occasional event or to meet friends. My last two meals here (lunch September 2022 and dinner last night) were mediocre at best. Details: 1) Service. We had an early reservation last evening to precede a 7 pm event (5 PM on a Thursday), a relatively slow time with many open tables. We were rushed through the meal with check arriving in 42 minutes from when we sat. Drink and food orders were taken together and wine/apps/entrees arrived with overlap. The server was very self assured about her descriptions of the food - to the point of being patronizing. The irony is that I'm Italian and fluent both in the language and culture, and she mispronounced everything and was wrong about much of it. It would have been forgivable (Princeton is ahem...not a hotbed of European culture) but the self-assured condescension was over the top. 2) Food: The White Bean and Guanciale (misspelled on menu) soup could have easily been Progresso minestrone out of a can (not exaggerating). Weak flavor, at most a fleck or two of prosciutto (not guanciale), and a small portion. 99% of Jersey diners have better homemade soup at 1/5 of the price. As an entree I had the Nordic Salmon Blu. This was fair. The salmon itself was pretty clearly farmed and the portion on the small size, especially for the price. (BTW, I am not a portion-monger). On a positive note, it was cooked perfectly and the underlying bed of chard was crisp and also well-cooked. The accompanying beans were mushy and clearly canned. My wife had an average salad, but again overpriced. She added avocado, and the avocado was unripe and small, She had a Mediterranean pasta entree. As a positive, the pasta appeared homemade and portion size was appropriate. The sauce was excellent - like a 'Puttanesca- lite.' The pasta was overcooked. She ordered shrimp and they were industrial and tough - like overcooked Costco shrimp. We were asked if we wanted dessert about 30 minutes into the meal shortly after our entrees arrived. We answered that we wanted to think about it and see if we were still hungry after the entees. The check was on our table about 5 - 7 minutes later. I won't belabor details, but I had a very similar experience in September 2022 at a lunch. So....if you're in Princeton on business spending expense account money, you can get an average meal here for an inflated price. I won't go again and certainly do not recommend for any special occasion, date to impress, etc. read more

What a delicious spot for lunch! The inside of the restaurant is very cozy a lot of polished wood and a wine room in the back. It has a nice upscale feel and you're welcomed to a table of fresh baked bread that the staff uses to cut up and serve to the table. Very nice touch. I had one of the specials that day, a potato truffle soup which was so good! You could taste the truffle without it being overbearing and not too creamy. My main was the mussels provencal and the sauce was delicious! I couldn't get enough of this dish. The mussels were piled up high and I ate every single one! They were cleaned and prepared perfectly here. The price was great for lunch as well. I really could rave on about these mussels, they were so good! The sauce was marinara style not so chunky but so flavorful. It was covered enough where I had sauce in my mussels and my bowl allowed me to scoop up the sauce as I ate. All in all that dish made it for me. I also enjoyed it with their fresh lemonade which I asked to be mixed with iced tea for a half and half. Delicious lunch here! read more

One of my all time favorite restaurants to go to in Princeton :3 It is beautiful inside, and has a lovely patio with great ambiance (I have a soft spot for draped Edison bulbs, AND it's also next to a cute lil fountain.) For good food and service at a reasonable price, what's not to love? I've tried a couple of their pastas here, but I always end up going back to their insane **Paella Clasica** ($54 for two people) that they feature every year at Communiversity. I remember the first time my mom got their paella for me at the festival when I was in first grade -- that's how deep in food memory this dish goes! With my meal, I also had their **Negroni** which was strong enough for my tastes (a rare gem of an experience these days), and I split their **NJ Green Salad** ($12) with my mom. The title of the salad makes it sound like just the most bland, boring dish from Jer-Z -- but it was soo good! The toasted red quinoa was particularly delightful. Somehow I've avoided coming to Mediterra in all the time we've lived in this area - I'm not sure why though! We decided to give it a try on a Saturday evening with another couple - and I was pleasantly surprised. We scored outside seating, which was a huge plus! Although, oddly the chairs differed in heights - causing a real laugh when my 5'5" friends' head hovered over her 6'1" boyfriends head at the table. The wine list and cocktails looked amazing, and to be honest I wouldn't mind coming back for a drink, post baby! My husband ordered something with spicy jalapeños and tequila - it looked and smelled amazing. Our friends each ordered drinks that they really enjoyed, and I believe everyone moved onto wine during dinner as well. (I had an Arnold Palmer, which was quite refreshing!) Food wise, started with some apps // Bread was brought to the table, which was warm and delicious. Served with amazing olive oil - it was hard to resist. I believe the bread is made daily at Terra Momo Bread Company, just up the street - definitely makes a difference eating fresh baked bread, as opposed to rolls that have been sitting in a kitchen for days! // Yellowfin Tuna Ceviche ($17) - cucumber, radish, chive, sesame, jalapeño-cilantro puree. I didn't try this one but it looked really amazing. // Hummus ($12) herb tahina, radish salad, and served with warm pita. I ate WAY too much of this hummus, it was absolutely delicious. Between the 4 of us, and a very generous serving of pita, we still didn't finish the hummus. For dinner, my eye was caught by sea scallops so I ordered the Linguini con Capesante ($26) - they were Point Pleasant sea scallops, in an heirloom tomato, toasted garlic, caper, basil & trebbiano sauce. It was really delicious - not too heavy for a pasta dish. The flavor was super bright and fresh, and the scallops were heavenly, almost sweet, and cooked to perfection. I normally shy away from pasta during the summer/heat because it feels too heavy - but this was a great dish for a warm summer night! My husband ordered a bolognese dish, which although pretty basic was really delicious. I ended up 'tasting' many bites of his throughout dinner! I'd definitely come back! Came here with my gf for my birthday. It was all Gucci. Reservation for 6:30 on a Monday night and we were seated promptly upon arrival. The dining area is clean, cozy, sleek, and sophisticated. Mood lighting was appropriate and the ambiance was intimate. We ordered martinis, calamari for appetizer, and split the paella for our main. The food came out at lightning speed. The menu even stipulated that the paella would take 30 minutes but it really only took 15. The calamari was lightly fried and included whole lightly fried jalapeños which was a surprisingly nice addition. The dish included a drizzle of sauce and a side or marinara. It was very good. The paella was delicious. It was brought out in one serving and split into two bowls for us table side. I enjoyed the chorizo and clams the best. Will be eating leftovers for lunch today. I dined at Mediterra many times over the years since I worked closed to the Princeton area. I was back again last week with some coworkers for a work dinner. We had a party of 12, where we were seated in the bar area next to the window. It was a little loud which is totally understandable during dinner rush. The menu although small, it offered many options. Most meals are prepared from fresh ingredients. For appetizers, we ordered calamari, grilled octopus and cheese boards. Calamari was yummy with the perfect amount of crunch. The grill octopus was delicious. It was grilled perfectly without tasting rubbery. The sausage on the plate compliment well with the texture of the octopus. The cheese board and the cold cuts were tasty as well. I realized their cheese selections changes daily, so I can't recommend a specific type for that particular night. Although one cheese had a hint of truffle that I almost devour the entire block myself. For my entree, I opted for the grilled sea bass because I wanted something light. Usually, I get their famous paella almost every time. The bass was cooked well. The skin was crispy and the filet itself had the perfect texture. Your mouth will thank you if you take the skin and the meat in one bite. The veggie on the plate was also delicious. Good crunch and light because they weren't over cooked. I came in between lunch and dinner so I had to order from a Tapas menu that didn't have many options. The presentation of the food was beautiful but unfortunately, it didn't taste how it looked! Here are the tapas that I ordered: Papas Bravas - I usually order this when I see it on a menu because I'm a big fan. I was not impressed with their version of this, it was literally tater tots with melted cheese. Smoked Falafel - I'm a huge fan of falafel so I was excited to try this. This was my first time trying smoked falafel and let's just say that falafel is usually fried for a reason. I couldn't even finish one. Empanada De Queso - This was probably the best tapa I ordered from here. Not the best empanada but not the worst either. Hummus - I love hummus but this hummus tasted like the kind you would buy in the store. Nothing special. TDLR: Disappointed in the tapas, not worth the price. We wandered into this place after a long day of flights. The menu seemed a bit pricey but after a long day of airline pretzels and peanuts we decided to splurge. They have outdoor seating that was readily available which was a huge plus. Our waiter came by and while he wasn't overly friendly, everything came out in a timely manner. We had the octopus appetizer which was incredible, I honestly wish I had just order appetizers because this was so good but I would split between max of three people. After the appetizer I was excited for my meal, tagliolini with lemon and shrimp. While the food was good, the portion size was a joke. It was the most overpriced pasta I've ever had because of the amount which was a real bummer. Overall I would come back but like I said for apps and drinks with friends. I haven't been out to eat in over two months due to Covid. When I heard my parents made plans to come to Mediterra, I was a bit apprehensive. I am so happy that I went to this dinner. This was such an enjoyable experience that I knew I was going to write a review. Jeffrey, as well as one other gentleman whose name I didn't get, were so accommodating when we arrived. They did everything they could to make my family comfortable while we sat outside on the patio near their heat sources. Every staff member wears a mask (and correctly). Servers wear both masks and gloves. The Covid protocols were very reassuring and were certainly up to my standards. Even in the midst of a pandemic, Mediterra was able to create a very welcoming and warm atmosphere. Our server, Oscar, was great. He knew the menu very well and was able to answer all of our questions. He made the recommendation of the El Jefe cocktail, which is similar to a margarita. It was so delicious, I had to order a second. My family ordered the hummus appetizer and split a caesar salad to start. The kitchen was nice enough to split the salad for the three of us. These were both very tasty. For entrees, my mom ordered the half roasted chicken with polenta. The dish was excellent. My dad and I split the blu nordic salmon with sprouted brown rice and the sweet potato and harissa chickpea bowl, which is something neither of us would typically order. Both were awesome. And the kitchen split both dishes on separate plates for us without us even asking. This is certainly going the extra mile. For dessert, I tried the butterscotch budino which didn't disappoint. Overall, I was super pleased with this experience. I would highly recommend giving Mediterra a chance, even during these uncertain times. Mediterra is one of those restaurants that take up a whole section of a plaza so you're expecting something great. Everything looked very spiffy inside and the ambiance was nice. If you're looking for first date spots, this would be a good choice. I ordered the Grilled Greek Chicken and I was able to switch the potatoes out for mushrooms. The chicken was flavorful and very juicy with the vegetables complimenting perfectly. To my surprise, they used hen of the woods (maitake) mushrooms which are of higher quality and very delicious. Price wise, it's a bit steep especially for lunch but the quality of the food made it worth the extra bucks. The restaurant is partnered up with local farms so freshness and quality ingredients are emphasized which you can taste in the food. Overall, good food, nice ambiance, and attentive staff. So my wife, our daughter and I go to Mediterra at 3.50 pm on a Monday. The place is practically empty. The hostess still bothers to ask us if we have a reservation (really!!). She also lets us know that they are switching to the dinner menu. Our waiter gets us some water and we order their Chickpea Hummus, Garden Salad and two of their vegetarian bowls. The Chickpeas Hummus shows up with raw, unpeeled and uncut radishes. And the salad had very large lettuce leaves completely uncut and what tasted like no tossing of the dressing. My wife asks to see the manager to express our concern with the prep of the Hummus and the salad and the manager starts to tell my wife to use the fork and knife rather than listen to her concerns. After arguing for almost 2-3 minutes, we had to finally remind him that as a restaurant manager all we were asking was for him to listen to the issue rather than argue with the customer or try to teach us how to cut an uncut, raw , unpeeled radish. He finally offers for us to have the 'dinner on him'. We reminded him that this wasn't about the money but rather everything to do with how unhappy we were with his attitude.
