Mediterranea is a cute restaurant nestled in the middle of the Grant Park neighborhood area. It blends it with the surrounding area so make sure you don't miss it! There is only street parking but you can park very close to the restaurant. As a grant park restaurant this is one of my favorite and go to restaurants in the area. They have an incredible menu with a delicious view on their rooftop for gathering during the spring through autumn seasons. It is really a treat sitting up there and enjoy the surroundings while eating. As many of the other reviews have stated this is a a gluten free menu, which as a healthy eater, really pleases me. You can see they really take into consideration all the items in their menu. As far as the appetizers go, the baked feta is a must! It is delicious and you get to have their gluten free bread. Before you go running, they do gluten free bread so well and you will be happy of your decision. Another favorite is the meatballs. As for entrees I had the eggplant and it was amazing. One of the better ones I have had in a long time! My partner had the steak frites and our friends had the risotto. Everybody had empty plates by the end of the meal. I really love this restaurant and would highly recommend it to anybody in the area. Cute gluten- free restaurant. Food is affordable, delicious and healthy! The owners are so kind and actually greeted my friend by name because she is a regular. The Red Chili Shakshuka was delicious. So hearty, and surprisingly spicy! Had a great kick. The fried egg on top was cooked perfectly. My friend had the orange marmalade Cream cheese French toast. It definitely did not taste gluten-free. It was sweet and nutty. The texture was a little different, more crumbly than typical French toast but I loved it. I got pastries to go and I can't wait to try them! Mediterranea is definitely one of my favorite hidden gems. I've been here a couple times for lunch and look forward to one day making it here for brunch. The vibe of the restaurant is very cute and makes you feel like you've entered someone's house. The decor is simple and modern, and there is a nice window with desserts if you'd like to grab something sweet. Parking is on the street and there is plenty (although you might have to walk a bit on a busy day). The first time I came here, I ordered the Nicoise salad. I've never had such a cute salad that tasted so good. The portion was light and perfect, and I left thinking that I really need to learn how to make this recipe. The next time I came, I had an eggplant lasagna. The portion was smaller than the Nicoise salad, but it still filled me up (but maybe order a soup or something light if you're really hungry and want the lasagna). This is definitely another recipe I want to recreate at home. Overall, love this place and hope to surprise some friends by bringing them to this cute spot. read more

We stopped in for brunch before heading to the zoo for the afternoon, and we're really glad that we did! First of all, it's pretty great that the restaurant is completely gluten-free, including some great baked goods. Because we had a reservation, we were seated right away and didn't get that much time to browse the bakery case, but it certainly looked good! For our meal, I went with the red shakshuka, which was delicious, and my wife got French toast and a few things to share. Everything tasted great, and being gluten-free didn't take away from the awesomeness of the dishes, including the French toast! My wife also really enjoyed her latte, and my coffee was good as well. Mediterranea is a 100% gluten free restaurant, and their food is fantastic. My husband does not have to eat GF, but he loved everything he ate. We ordered the quartet of spreads with focaccia bread, the lasagna with turkey, the involtini, and the butterscotch pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Everything was great, but my favorites were the eggplant caponata spread, the focaccia bread (I'm just in awe of how perfect the GF focaccia was), and the butterscotch pecan pie. Of the two entrees, we preferred the lasagna. The involtini itself was great, but the sides were a bit bland and boring: something I could easily do at home. How very special to have such a fantastic fully dedicated gluten free restaurant with so many great GF options and to know that it's safe for people with gluten allergies. We were impressed. Since becoming gluten free, brunch has not really been on the menu for me. On our weekend trip to Atlanta, Mediterranea was a frequent find on my "gluten free restaurants Atlanta" searches. When I saw they offered french toast, we made it a priority to eat here. I was so giddy when I saw the completely gluten free menu, I couldn't stop myself. I not only ordered the french toast, but also the chicken sausage patties, cheese biscuits, and a side of gravy. I was in gluten free, brunchy heaven. I loved the flavors of the french toast. The chicken sausage was fantastic and the gravy had HUGE chunks of sausage as well. The "biscuit" was their house cheese scone, so the texture is not like a biscuit but the flavor was great! Went perfectly with the sausage and gravy. I also enjoyed an almond milk latte, which was delicious and one of the best coffees I'd had on the trip. My husband had the red shakshuka, which was something I had never seen before. I tasted a bit and if you want a spicy, savory, protein-filled start to your day, that's for you! It only breaks my heart that there isn't a place like this near Philadelphia. Interesting location - right in the midst of a residential neighborhood. The counter tops & (host) table were made from 1 tree called a Cherry Pecan Scone so they created a mini pastry to offer as a snack. but definitely if interior design is one of your pet peeves for restaurant dining, you would love all the small details put into this neighborhood restaurant. The owner, Gary was very nice to share special facts about the establishment's history. I arrived at the time when they first opened so they weren't serving for meals yet which was OK because they had smaller pastries and appetizers to serve such as veggie or paleo quiche. I was hoping they had a few vegan options and the Paleo quiche would've been great but it had turkey. So I was a vegetarian today & was treated with a free vegan cookie sample THAT TASTED JUST LIKE A GRANOLA! Totally try it I would definitely suggest that they add a few more vegan variations which is the reason why I gave them four out of five stars. Loved this place! Super cute, super hip. They have an adorable roof top seating area that I was able to enjoy. I went with a couple of friends for a casual night out and Mediterranea was the perfect place. We shared the Baked Feta and it was absolutely amazing!! it was a nice size for three of us to share. We proceeded to order drinks and entrees. I ordered the involintini, my friends ordered the risotto and the eggplant stack. All three things were delicious and the perfect size. As for the drink - I got the drink with aquafaba and if you've never tried aquafaba.. just try it! Very convenient location, on the corner of a quiet neighborhood street with tons of street parking. Overall: Wow. When my manager told me I had to book a flight to Atlanta for work, I never imagined finding one of the best gluten free restaurants I had ever experienced! I went to Mediterranea with 3 colleagues for dinner. The restaurant itself was charming. It's design was understatedly chic and unpretentious. As I walked in there was a display of baked goods including scones, almond pound cake, carrot cupcakes and cookies to the right. To the left there were several places to dine comfortably (perfect restaurant for claustrophobics). I had originally made a reservation for 7pm, but my colleagues and I were running pretty late. I called the restaurant to let them know. They were extremely accommodating despite our 45 minute late arrival.. oops.... Not sure if they'd be so forgiving on a weekend, but we were lucky! I enjoyed my experience so much that, on my last day in ATL, I returned for lunch on my way to the airport! Food: The food was overwhelmingly good. The cuisine was unsurprisingly Mediterranean (per the name of the restaurant). My colleagues and I ordered half of the menu. We started with the quartet of spreads which included: hummus, lebne (YUM), olive tapenade, and eggplant with a side of focaccia bread (homemade!) It was so delicious we ordered a second round (dw, I promise we saved room for entrees). For our mains we all shared the mushroom risotto, the seafood hot pot, the involtini and the calabrese shrimp and orzo. (Wasn't joking when I said we ordered half the menu..) My favorites were the risotto and the involtini (I mean, what's better than pan-fried cheese?!) Was there room for dessert? Duh... There is ALWAYS room for dessert. I fundamentally believe in 2 stomachs: one for dessert and one for everything else. Apparently an Italian pastry chef makes all of the desserts at Mediterranea. Our new fav pastry chef, Gerard Nudo, did not disappoint! We ordered the chocolate mousse and berry cake. The chocolate mousse was rich and creamy and everything you could dream for. They are just coming back to Dine In service from a lonnnngggggg layoff due to Covid. No Liquor, only 1 beer to choose from and only a couple of wines. Only cocktails were premixed in a can. I've visited Mediterranea three times, and I've enjoyed it each visit! I loved seeing this place open up in my neighborhood, and it's become popular very quickly. Our first time there, we hadn't made a reservation, and there was only room at the bar. The atmosphere of the small lower floor dining room is intimate and romantic. The staff is friendly and happy to tell you about the dishes and make recommendations. During our first visit, we got the scallops (I thought the orange was an odd pairing), roast chicken with root vegetables (which was great) and the spreads quartet (which we loved!). I can't remember what we got the second time, but I was on the Whole30 cleanse/diet at the time, and the waiter helped me out a good deal with finding something I could eat. A funny thing, though, when my dish came to the table, it had an unexpected side to go with the main food. The waiter explained, "I wasn't sure if the original side had butter in it, so I had the chef prepare something different for you so you could enjoy it while still being Whole30." I appreciated him looking out for me, and it was a little weird that he didn't let me know beforehand, but I tend to roll with things like this, so I wasn't upset. My third visit was a quick breakfast with a friend. I got a blood orange soda (in a can) and a muffin, and I loved both. I keep seeing lovely pictures of their breakfast and brunch options, and I really want to return to indulge myself with those foods. My first time trying to go there for brunch, though, I discovered the restaurant doesn't open till 10:30 on the weekends. We were really hungry, so we started a small family tradition of going to Dakota Blue for brunch instead (about a mile away). I'm sure I can convince my husband to try again with me, though, maybe during the week when they open much earlier. My husband has a larger appetite than I do, and both times he had dinner with me here, he didn't leave feeling full after his entree. I've always been happy with my portions, though, but take this into consideration. The food here is very, very clean, and won't have much carb foods, which means your body won't feel full as quickly as it would if you were having a burger or pasta. There's free street parking around the restaurant. I haven't visited the rooftop patio yet, but it's on my list. The entire place is very cool and yet down to earth thanks to the care and attention they spend on their ingredients and menu. The entire menu is Paleo and changes with the seasons to make sure you're getting the freshest and most delicious meals possible. Definitely worth a visit! read more

This restaurant is 100% gluten free, yet everything tastes so tasty that you would never know! I had the pistachio raspberry cream cheese french toast for brunch on a Sunday and it was delicious. It was light and fluffy, and the pistachios added a nice crunch. They were pretty busy, but our waitress was great (she explained the menu and her favorites) and we were seated immediately. We had a reservation which I highly recommend seeing as the line was almost out the door. They do not have a parking lot, but there is ample street parking that's free. Went for breakfast and was very happy with both the food and service! I got an ice coffee with an extra shot of espresso. I wasn't sure if they could do an extra shot in an iced coffee, but they did :) the French toast was quite yummy and not too sweet. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Making a reservation for the 2nd floor was great on nice evening end of May. There is a local park right across the street with kids of all ages playing. Inspired me to get out more versus playing final fantasy. The food was tremendous in my opinion. The first two boards were loaded with probiotics and the olive tapenade and Feta were terrific. The greeter at the door never asked my mom to wait to be seated so she sat herself. I walked in a few minutes later and sat with her. A very rude gentlemam, maybe the manager, proceeded to tell us that this was not self sitting and asked if we had a reservation. We did not. Although they had more than half an empty resturant, he went to check if they had "space" for us. His attitude and demeanor were condescending and unwelcoming. I opted not to eat due to our experience. My mom had the pollenta and shrimp and said it was very good. Food would warrant higher rating but I cant get over the poor service. Given some dietary restrictions and preferences, I was looking for a dairy-free, gluten-free, fruit based cake or pie. I was extremely happy to find their Vegan Lemon Blueberry "Cheese" Cake (with Berry Rum sauce). Ordered a couple slices on Sunday, was able to pickup on a Tuesday (when they were technically closed), and the cake ended up being delicious! Very satisfied with the cake and my customer service experience. Especially now that I know they're so gluten-free friendly, will definitely be making a point of dining in as soon as possible, but cannot recommend their bakery enough. This place is fantastic. If I lived walking distance, I would probably come in every day. I've been for lunch and dinner and I can't wait to try their brunch. For lunch, I've tried a couple of items: one of the grain bowls and the soup/sandwich combo. The former was good and surprisingly filling but the dressing was very heavy on the vinegar. The combo was my favorite - the sandwich was a take on the BLT but the real star was the French lentil soup. I think lentils are generally blah and unremarkable but man did Mediterranea manage to dress them up. I would happily go back just for that soup. My SO and I recently went for dinner and I was really impressed. I had the risotto, which was kind of non-traditional. The rice did have that soft, creamy taste but it was a mound of rice surrounded by broth instead of the creamy bowl of rice I was envisioning. Despite that, it was delicious. The fava beans, pancetta, and parmigiano really rounded out the dish. My SO had the eggplant stack, which was unreal. I don't know what they did to that eggplant but it was rich and meaty and shockingly good. The ambiance inside is cozy but also a little sophisticated. I am dying to check out the rooftop patio. I cannot rave about this place enough! If I could come here every meal, I think I might (luckily for my wallet, I live a bit too far!). A completely gluten free restaurant full of Mediterranean influence. Offering brunch on the weekends and lunch/dinner during the week, there is something for everyone gluten free or not. Brunch is AMAZING and so reasonably priced! Their Bloody Mary's are incredible, especially if you like spicy in which you can upgrade to a hot bloody (definitely worth the try). Priced at $6 for regular, and $8 for spicy, they are one of the best in town. For brunch entrees, my favorite is the chicken sausage biscuits and gravy. Being gluten free, I had never tried biscuits and gravy before coming here and my tastebuds were delighted. On a jalapeño cheddar scone biscuit, two eggs however you'd like, topped with chicken sausage gravy this is a must try! $11 While the biscuits and gravy is amazing, their red chili shakshuka is decadent. Pork and smoked sausage braised in a red chili tomato sauce with baked eggs and topped with a garlic yogurt, this dish is so hearty and amazing all in one! ($12) I could go on and on about their brunch, but their dinner is amazing as well. The baked feta in tomato sauce is so good we had to get two (one for dessert!!) we like to do it tapas style and get an array of their smaller dishes then one main entree between the two of us. Went back here for brunch last weekend and had a very positive experience. The food was tasty, interesting, and affordable. I enjoyed the turkey gravy over biscuits and had a hard time believing it was gluten free. My wive's Greek veggie omelette was also very tasty. We shared a mimosa and a ristretto which were both delicious. We also tried the morning glory muffin which we enjoyed. Taking one star for service because even though it was busy, we experienced a much longer than usual wait trying to get our waiter's attention and then later to get our check. We've been waiting for so long for such a great restaurant to open in Grant Park, and it's finally here! It's all gluten free, but you wouldn't know it, unless they tell you, because it's all delicious! We came for dinner. The 4-dip app was one of my favorites. I loved the orange beet dip, but the hummus and eggplant were great as well. Mains: the shrimps over polenta was wonderful, the beet risotto was divine, and the zucchini hallumi cheese was also delightful. The most exciting surprise was the gluten free bread pudding. At first, sounds almost sacrilegious. But, it was delicious! Fruity and moist, and much lighter than your typical bread pudding (after a full meal, I appreciated that:). The look and feel of the restaurant was great. I want to start out by saying that we are here on a Sunday Brunch and we are vegan. We asked about the vegan options on a few of the plates and were told the option was to remove the egg, yogurt and bread. There was no substitute or any reduction in the price offered for leaving off the protein. We were quite surprised by the lack of options. I got the artichoke salad with a side of potatoes and hash, the food was satisfying but not worth the cost. I downloaded a discount from yelp and was told it was for lunch and not brunch, but was given the discount in the end anyways after talking with the manager. The manager and waitress were very friendly and I discussed with the manager the issue with the vegan options. I noticed the lunch and dinner menu had a lot more options if you are vegan. I would not recommend coming here for brunch, looking for vegan options unless you are just looking for a nice drink and a snack. read more

Delicious! A dear friend introduced me to Mediterranea for brunch this past Sunday. The minute we walked in a friendly gentleman greeted us and asked if we had a a booking, we did not so we were a little worried but no problem, they sat us right away in front by the windows! We were being those people -catching up instead of looking at the menu- and our server was graciously patient with us. I decided on the hot bloody mary, which was tasty and garnished beautifully with spicy salt, okra, and an olive. My friends enjoyed a bellini and a rose sangria. As far as entrees we took a minute (thank you to our server for her patience) and I chose the special of skirt steak with chimmichurri sauce and two eggs cooked to order. My friends selected the french toast and the omelette and each added a side of chicken sausage. Note, the side servings were each a generous portion of two sausage patties. The skirt steak was delicious and cooked perfectly - medium rare leaning towards rare - and the chimmichurri sauce was delicious, they could add a little more to the dish LOL. I opted for over medium eggs and they were cooked perfectly. The eggs were a little greasy, like they had been cooked in excess oil but everything was tasty. After our entrees, we tempted ourselves into some yumminess from the bakery case and split the orange ginger scone and lemon mini bundt. Oh and of course a few coffees. Both desserts were tasty!! It was busy on a Sunday, but it took almost half an hour until a waiter took my order (I think they need more staff for crowded times). The delicious sounding french toast was sold out.
