I was so excited to find out there's a Meet Fresh location in Southern California after having an incredible experience at the one in Bellevue, Washington. Unfortunately, my visit to the West Covina location was a completely different story. Let me start with Bellevue, because it set my expectations sky-high. The portions were generous, the flavors were excellent, and while it was pricier than expected (around $25), it felt worth it. The attendant was incredibly attentive -- I can't do dairy, and she immediately offered brown sugar as a substitute. She was thoughtful, made sure we had enough napkins, and honestly might have been the owner given how much care she put into the experience. It felt like a proper restaurant. The West Covina location, on the other hand, missed the mark entirely. The space itself looked dirty, and both bathrooms were out of order -- which is a real problem for any eatery. The staff were young, and the cashier spent most of her time on her phone, only looking up when a customer actually approached the counter to order. There was also a vending machine and a claw machine inside, which made it feel less like a restaurant and more like a noisy teenage hangout. One genuine bright spot: they had a great video game available for customers, which was a fun surprise. But the dessert itself was the biggest letdown. The shaved ice wasn't finely shaved at all -- it was more like a snow cone, with big, crunchy chunks of ice rather than the soft, fine texture you'd expect. It just didn't compare to the quality I had in Bellevue. Overall, I was really disappointed and won't be returning to the West Covina location. Super hot day, tons of customers with the same idea as me, to come here! The interior had lots of space and tables, and a claw machine! After I put in my order, I needed a token for it but the one and only person working was too busy to change me. She apologized and when another worker finally came back, she got me my token and I tried for something..but lost. When I got my order, and sat down to enjoy it, man did it cool me down big time! So refreshing! I'm not usually in W. Covina often, and the closest Meet Fresh to me is Temple City, but it's way above the 10 freeway and I'm by the 60 freeway so it's quite a drive just to get to it. The taro and sweet potato balls were chewy and the shaved ice was nicely sweetened. Top it off with their creamer for a more milky taste! Maybe my experience is a bit different, but a few things I'll point out. - Typical Meet Fresh, but a bit more casual in decor. Bathroom doesn't have a code like it did at the Rowland Heights location, and was clean when I used it this one trip. A Claw machine and a Street fighter machine can be used here. - Everything tasted as expected. Order came out quickly. Portion is the same as pictured. - Staff was a bit quiet, and you place your order via a kiosk. I wouldn't say it was rude or inviting, but it's typical for this type of dessert place. There was just one girl working up front, and another person in the back prepping things. When I visit a Taiwanese dessert place, I don't expect much as far as service goes... it's not like any type of special service at any other location or even in Taiwan eating this type of food. We were craving Meet Fresh on New Year's Day and stopped by around noon to order takeout. There were no other customers when we walked in. I placed my order with an employee, though I later noticed there's a self-service ordering kiosk near the entrance. Communication was a bit challenging, as the staff at this location speak very limited English. The first employee had to call over another staff member to help with my order, since it seemed like there was some confusion. The seasonal hot almond soup is currently available, so we ordered that along with a build-your-own hot grass jelly with taro paste and mini Qs. This was my first time trying the taro paste and it was excellent - definitely a must-order for taro lovers, and the portion was generous. I was craving a shave ice dessert after having dinner nearby and was pleased to see Meet Fresh in the area. There are ample parking spots as it's located in a shared plaza. The service was rather poor. No one greets you and there are hand written signs all over the store to direct you on how to self order. Basically you order what you want at a kiosk. There are television menus on display and they are all outdated. There is a menu by the wall, which is also outdated. The kiosk where you self service also has a suggestive tip option, which I don't understand since no one is helping us. My boyfriend and I decided on a large strawberry mango dessert as it was only $1 more compared to the medium. The size is actually GINORMOUS. We added on pudding and mochi ... and the dessert cost almost $20. They only have two small pieces of mochi. I'm used to mochi balls being scattered in the dessert. Anyways, I think that's a pretty steep price for dessert. We couldn't finish it. It was overwhelming. The mango and strawberry toppings also weren't very sweet. However the presentation was nice. I have come here occasionally for their Too Good To Go since it's the only way the prices here can be reasonable. The staff organization/knowledge seems very lacking as they often don't have a clue the specifics about the app orders. People often get pissed waiting for a long time here and I've had customers want to fight me because they everyone was cutting the queue because the waits were so long and the staff doesn't manage the customer expectations or line. I usually make specific modifications to my boba drinks and I was not seeing the options there. It was frustrating to navigate. When I got my order the girl had so much attitude. We entered from the back entrance (where you will find a unisex restroom. What is interesting is that there is a sink right outside the restroom (this is also a sink in the restroom) for those that may just want to wash their hands, which I think is nice. Anyways, when we came in and walked to the counter, we were greeted by the employees behind the counter. After looking over the menu, we ended up purchasing: Almond Milk Drink w/ Boba, $6.50 prior to tax- I ordered this drink which I thought was just perfect in flavor. It was not too sweet and was nice to have hot on a cold day. The boba was perfectly cooked, nice and soft with a good chew. Milk Tea w/ Grass Jelly, $6.50 prior to tax- My husband ordered this milk tea to be made with no ice and 50% sweetness.
