Let me start off by saying I usually go to the Modesto location on bangs Ave but they didn't have a sooner appointment. I should have just waited one more day. However this location was the soonest so had went in for a free multi-point inspection. Ended up being charge for a oil change I was not aware of until the very end. I would have preferred they asked prior to changing it I had just checked my oil and it looked brand new. I don't think I would come back to this location. I take accountability for not letting them know exactly that I wanted to make sure they check my AC had no leaks and my axel which is why I went in for in the first place. I can only give this location 2 stars due to dishonest exploitive behavior. I originally came here for an oil change which they did in a fine manner. That wasn't the problem. The issue arose when I was paying for services after the oil change was done. The guy started with normal attempts to upcharge. I expected that and wasn't surprised TBH. However, what got me was his demeanor when telling me I needed a new air filter. I told him that I doubted it needed a new one. He again said it was dirty and should be replaced soon but in a very condescending, "I know more than you," manner. That really irked me, so I told him the car was bought by me, brand new off the lot, had less than 7K total miles, and only saw freeway commutes into the city. I then asked how could a new hybrid car with low miles and easy commutes already need a new air filter. He said with another condensing tone, that Central Valley air is far worse than in most cities. Seeing his willingness to argue a ridiculous position, I just paid and left. So when I got home I decided to pull the air filter myself, and of course it was nearly spotless. I checked Honda's recommended maintenance schedule to humor myself, and it said to replace it at 15K miles. So in summation, any man that will blatantly give bad faith arguments to make a few extra bucks does not deserve your business. If he cant be honest about a cheap air filter, I don't want to imagine what he'd say for more costly services. read more

I bring my car here quite often for oil changes and minor fixes. I have never had a problem before, but they need to keep my cars over the weekend because a part was broken off during the repairs. It was so frustrating due to the fact that I had other obligation that particular weekend and need to be at work earlier Monday morning for a presentation. I understand that things happen, Chris was very apologetic but that did not change the outcome on end. Picked my cars up on Monday afternoon and the car was running perfect and still is. Chris made the entire situation manageable, and I will leave it at that...... I looked over my repair bill once I was home and had to call Chris back to thank him for his customer services and taking care of my vehicle in a professional manner. So I has a nail in my tire. Came here bc I've been a customer for years. To my surprise the "specialist" came back and told me that my tire couldn't be fixed and that since he didn't have the tire in stock he recommended replacing the two back tires for the cost of $1200. So me being a 43yr old person took my business across town to Los amigos tires and had my tire fixed for $15 dis yes one five. Worst Care Care Center Ever!!! The customer service and communication at this location is 100% garbage and I definitely do not recommend that you bring your vehicle here for anything!! I made an appointment for my vehicle on a Saturday to check out a coolant leak that I had. I dropped off my vehicle when they opened at 8am. The same day around 2pm I still had not heard back from them so I decided to call and spoke to the Supervisor. He told me that I needed to replace a relay hose and that he could not get me an estimate because the parts place was closed on Saturday. He informed me that he would get me a price by Monday morning. Monday around noon, I still did not hear back from them so again, I called the office and they told me that they still do not have an estimate. A couple hours later I get a text that the cost for the labor and the part would be $1,300 not including the $150 they charged me to diagnose the problem. I approved the work order and didnt question the cost because I really needed my car back. They told me that the part will be in on Tuesday. The next day I call around noon to see the status of my vehicle and nobody was answering the phone. I called 3-4 times before someone actually picked up then put me on hold right away. So I decided to go to the shop and speak to someone. When I arrived I spoke to the manager and he told me that he's waiting for another part. When I asked why that wasn't mentioned in the original diagnosis, he told me that they broke this part (intake part) while they were trying to replace my coolant hose and that I would be in by 4pm that day, (Tuesday). Wednesday 2pm comes around still no phone call with any updates on my vehicle. I called the shop and spoke to the supervisor and he told me that the vehicle is still not ready and to check back tomorrow. (Note: This whole time I'm also paying for a rental car while these guys try to figure out how to do their jobs!!!). Thursday 11am comes around, and still no phone call. I check the text message from Meineke to look at the service order and I noticed that the price increased over $200 more than originally quoted. I called the shop again, I spoke to the supervisor and he told me that they are still working on the vehicle. I asked him why did the price increase and he said it was for the intake part that they broke!!! I told him that I'm not paying for that so he said he would see what he can do to remove that cost. I told him to call me by 2pm to let me know if my car will be ready because I need to make arrangements with the rental car company if I need to keep the rental for another day. By 3pm I received a call back from the supervisor saying that my car will be ready and they removed the cost for the part that they broke. It was too late in the day to make arrangements to pick up my car so I picked it up Friday morning. I've never in my life experienced this type of service regarding any of my vehicles and I know a lot of mechanics (in the bay area). All of whom said that this work shouldn't of taken more than a day to complete at the most. If you care about your time and money, DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLES TO THIS PLACE!!!!!! read more

I just had the struts and axle shafts replaced on my car. During the quoting process, I questioned the high price of the parts. I was told that I was paying for complete strut assemblies, not just the shock absorber. Well, I did not receive what I apparently paid for. I used to take my car here quite often for oil changes and minor fixes. I never had a problem before. It had been a while since I had last come here, but I brought my car in for a check engine light. I set an appointment for a Friday morning and was told to bring my car in anytime between 8am and 10am. Because of childcare issues, I wasn't able to bring my car in until right about 10am. I was appreciative that they were still able to take my car. I was told I would be called by about 12pm or 1pm. 2pm rolls around and I still haven't received a call. I gave them until about 3pm until I called them. They checked on the status and said that they haven't been able to figure out what's wrong with my car. I told him, that's fine and that I just need to know if I needed to find a rental car for work for the weekend. He said yes and that they could take their time really looking into the car the next day. That was all fine with me, but I would've appreciated some communication once it passed the original time that I was supposed to be called. I just barely had enough time to work out a rental. I'm not sure if they were having trouble with my car, or they never got around to seeing it. I let it go, considering I brought my car in at the latest part of the time window they gave me. The next day rolls around and I have the same problem with communication. 3pm, I gave them a call to check and see what was up and they told me they were just about to call me. I was told what the plan was for fixing it, which required ordering a part and fixing it on Monday since they will be closed on Sunday. This meant that I would have to have the rental until Tuesday since I would be at work when the car will be finished on Monday. They also spotted the problem with my water pump that I had known about so I committed to fixing that as well all in one shot. Things seemed to go well on Monday and my car was ready to be picked up, so I rolled in on Tuesday after returning my rental. When I got my car, the check engine light was no longer on and it looks like the repair was successful because after I drove it around for awhile, I took it in for the smog test and it passed. So the fix was good. Although there seemed to be some issues with communication, the staff was in general, very friendly like usual. My problem with the experience was something that I would normally NOT flip out about. However, my dissatisfaction has 100% to do with the current state of the world. Trust me, I myself, am even having a hard time with it, because I feel like I'm being nit picky about something stupid, but I'm really upset about it. Basically, someone left their half-drank sports beverage in my cupholder. Again, I would normally not find this to be a big deal. It's happened to me before at other car places. I've had someone's lunch trash in my car. I normally, just get irritated and throw it away. But here's the bottom line. Things are way different in the world now. In the beginning, I'll admit that I was skeptical like many, but so far, I've already lost multiple family members to COVID-19 and currently still have a handful more that are battling it in the hospital. Things have become extremely REAL. I have a 7-year old daughter and CANNOT put her or myself at risk. So it's comforting to see that Meineke appeared to take the proper precautions in response to all of this. But it doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever that masks are required for everyone to enter, the waiting area is stacked and put away so no one can sit to enforce proper social distancing, all for public safety. Yet, employee's are allowed to eat/drink their personal food/bev in MY vehicle and leave their left overs for me to handle and dispose of myself. I wear my mask when I speak to you, but I have to deal with an employees drink with their saliva on it. Thanks. Had this happened any other year but 2020, then I wouldn't have given two s***s. Very unprofessional, yes, but would I have taken the effort to write about it? No. But this is 2020 and like it or not, it's important. I'm disappointed that the safety precautions are a Dog and Pony Show. Hate me if you want, but I'm pissed. read more

Decided to return after my bad experience a few years back. Due to the negligence of another shop, I had to frantically call around for a repair shop. This Meineke came to mind. I see what the owner said in response to my last review. I think that all business owners should take note on how he responded. He addressed the problem in my review and took steps to prevent it from the future. I'm back here now due to another shop failing to warn me about brake pads. I now have to replace the entire rotar on the back wheels. Great service during my experience and got me out of a bad situation. A+. read more

My car needed an oil change and met the owner at a city meeting. Being reasonably new to Manteca, I swung over to the shop and was able to get my car in, tye very next morning. Work was good and very reasonably priced. The Service Writer Kristein, made waiting enjoyable. Was impressed when someone called to speak to a mechanic, she confidently said she could help...and REALLY knows her stuff. We will definitely bring our cars back. Being a business owner myself, I was impressed with how customer centric the owner is. That's seems to be a dying art in alot of cases. Definitely not the case here. read more

Decided to give this place as a try as my mechanic was available but this will be the last time. Overall the staff seemed ok but I'm not a fan of the cheap "synthetic" oil they use. And just to top it off they refused to rotate my tires which was the main reason I chose this place, they claimed my tires were too worn in the front when they have PLENTY of life left. I had some service done at another location. This owner stated I had a lifetime warranty on the parts. Since then, I have moved. When I went to the Meineke closer to my new home, they wouldn't cover the parts. Terry, said their store doesn't offer that warranty. What's the point of going to a nationwide repair store if they all have different incentives and policies? When I asked him if he could just look to see if the part was broken he said that he'll have to charge me $100 diagnostic fee. AND that fee doesn't even get credited towards the work performed (if I did decide to have the work performed). What a waste!!! I'm headed to a local mom and pop shop from now on. Update 2-21-2015: I immediately contacted the owner that replied to my original review and was ready to provide Meineke with the proof from another shop that it was a spark plug that was bad. The exact part I wanted Meineke to replace. He said regardless of the warranty he would still have to charge me labor. Well, we would just be going in circles, a $9 spark plug goes bad, but you're still gonna charge me an hour labor??? Wow! He said, well I can't change it for free, that's money going out my shop; okay, out of my pocket is better then? For a bad spark plug from Mieneke? The shop that made the repair also noted that they had to change a coil, because the spark plug was tightened too much and bent it. Now I know the Meineke in Manteca didn't repair the vehicle, but they're a nationwide company. And he could've worked something out with the Meineke in Fresno that made the repair. But he didn't budge. He didn't want to see the paperwork I had, and didn't want to help. So I ended the conversation. I waited to update the review, because my vehicle is still running good. Oh, and 35,000 miles is not close to the life expectancy of a spark plug, try 70,000 miles. read more

I brought my car initially to run an AC diagnostic check. They said it just needed a can of ac freon. So I had them do additional work on the car because I wasn't expecting to pay too much to fix the ac because according to them, it was fine. The day I picked up the car (after paying them $5XX.00, the ac wouldn't get cold. I had to take it back. Then they told me it was actually my compressor. They fixed it and quoted $371, when I called to pay over the phone they had made a mistake and the total was actually $471! What a scam! Whoever is running this place needs to be retrained. 1. They misdiagnosed the problem and 2. Lied to me about the actualy price, because of THEIR mistake. read more

My wife and I have been bringing our cars here for years and I unfortunately can't trust that all work will be done correctly. In one instance I picked up my car after an oil change and tire rotation only have the tpms light come on during the drive home. Found one tire only had 14psi. A couple times the light wasn't reset after an oil change, no biggie I guess. Last year they either didn't tighten or forgot some of the bolts in the splash shield after an oil change. The plate was hitting the ground and had to be reattached with new bolts, which I took care of on my own. Late last year they over tightened my air box bolts causing them to shear off when trying to loosen. Last oil change my request to fix a left front tire leak was disregarded after my request. It wasn't even looked at. They also recommended an air cabin filter replacement even though I had replaced it 2 days before bringing it in. I mean, the guys working there seem nice, but I really can't trust our cars with them anymore. If they miss the small stuff, how well do they handle bigger jobs? The work just feels rushed with no attention to detail with a very heavy emphasis on upselling services. When I leave our cars there, I just don't know what to expect when picking up. read more

Got an oil change last year, staff was friendly, but whoever did my oil change was awful and apparently lazy. When I left, my car started smoking from the hood, and through my cab vents so bad that I had to pull over because I thought my car was on fire. Two older gentlemen came out from their houses to help me because they too thought my car was on fire. Turns out it was burning oil. Note to worker who did my car.....if you spill oil, wipe it up! The cab of my car was so smokey, that I thought I was in a burning car. I will never ever go there again!!!!!!!!! ....oh and I forgot to mention, they asked if I wanted a new cab filter, I said no. So the person working on my car decided that I didn't need it anymore and never put it back in. So to sum it up, if you value quality work and YOUR LIFE, go elsewhere or watch the tech while he does your car. I hope they get better because they do seem like nice guys. Chris, owner, is really good. He's so helpful and really nice. He always treats me like a PERSON, and not an ignorant female. The thing is, I'm NOT an ignorant female - I know my cars - so I'm glad I'm not condescended when I'm talking with him. Josh is a douche, and I don't use that word. If Chris got rid of him, service would go way up. The second time I went, I had to deal with Josh. Even with my dad there for support (he came expecting to talk to Chris, with whom I think he's trying to befriend), I was way put off by Josh. He talked shop with my dad, but even he seemed like he was talking down to my dad. Both my dad and my grandfather were mechanics at one time! This was my first visit to Meineke Car Care in Manteca, and my last. On February 28, 2013, I brought my Chevy Tahoe in for a 90K Service, which went fine. When I went to pick up my truck, the tech, (HMR) said that my brakes were leaking and needed to be fixed. He went into detail about how there was brake fluid dripping on the pads creating a dangerous driving situation.He quoted me a price of $240 to do the job. I was already out $340 for the 90K service, I declined. Right next to the Meineke shop is a Les Schwab dealer, whom I have worked with in the past and trust. I took my Tahoe there to get an estimate for the brake job and explained what the Meineke tech had described to me. The Les Schwab professionals took my Tahoe back, pulled the wheels and looked at the brakes. They took me back to show me the brakes and explained that there was nothing wrong with my brakes. The service technician walked me through and explained what the normal process for brakes were, and said that the Meinike tech was wrong. Les Schwab did not even charge me! I felt like Meineke was trying to pull a fast one on me, and I will not trust them to do work for me again. Go to Les Schwab, it might cost a little more, but they have integrity. read more

I have come here twice for an alignment on my Honda. Both times on a Saturday: one time @ 3pm and another time @ 11am. I was taken in no problem. They grabbed the info from my vehicle, gave me an initial invoice with what service was being performed with pricing, and informed me they would call me when ready. Even though they were completely booked on those days, they guaranteed to get me taken care of the same day. When picking up the vehicle, I was given a printout of the alignment specs and on the final invoice were detailed notes about what the tech had observed. Thanks to the techs notes about the toe arm bushings being worn out, I was able to replace them myself for future alignment ease. I will return for alignment needs. read more

If only I could give ZERO stars. I've been to this Meineke three of four times, and each time I've felt uneasy. Why do I keep coming back, I ask myself. Because it's the only place of this kind in our area. But after this last time, I will definitely make the drive elsewhere. This time I went in for a leak. I explained to the lead guys up front (not the mechanics) that the leak seemed to be coming out of the bumper, which I know sounds crazy. But the leak was in the front of the car. I also explained to them that the color and feel (I knew it wasn't transmission fluid). I was told I'd have to pay $75 for an oil leak diagnostic...fine. After they got my car up they called me out about ten minutes later. One of the head guys in the front of the store took me right smack underneath my car, pointed to a screw and told me that oil was definitely leaking from that screw. I was completely puzzled because the screw was NO WHERE NEAR the front of my car where the fluid was leaking from. He then went on to tell me that it looked like someone put teflon around the screw but that it was still leaking. At this point I'm totally puzzled. So then, the mechanic (God bless him) says, "Ma'am, I noticed something else I'd like to show you." He then proceeded to walk me to THE FRONT OF MY CAR WHERE THE LEAK THAT I TOLD THEM ABOUT WAS, and he tells me how he noticed some leakage and that maybe it's the window washer fluid or something else, and that he'd check again. He then asked me to explain what the fluid felt like when I touched it. I told him it felt slightly greasy and that it had dried up over night on the floor of my garage. He then explained and assured me that the leak couldn't have been oil because if it were, it would not have dried up over night. So the head liar, I mean guy, who is now pissed because the mechanic just made me aware of the true nature of the leak, interjects and tells me that oil leak or washer fluid leak, the labor would cost the same. SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Long story short, they told me there was a crack in my plastic coolant overflow bottle. I was then charged $65 for a $20 bottle and $75 for the diagnostic. TOTAL RIP OFF! I was so PISSED when I left there. I could not believe that the guy tried to actually convince me that I had an oil leak IN AN AREA THAT WASN'T EVEN LEAKING!!!! How many women are ripped off here on a daily basis? How many men, for that matter? I can't put into words how furious I was. He totally got over on me and tried to bleed me for more. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS MEINEKE! And my mother who always goes there for oil changes will never return again either. I'm tired of businesses like this getting over on us laypeople. Thank God for the HONEST MECHANIC...probably the only honest person in the business. I hope he still has a job after what happened. read more

I was able to limp into a car care center where Meineke was located and the manager, Terry Whitlock and his crew were very helpful to me. Apparently, my radiator overheated and I had a hole in it.
