First time customer. Visited in early October around 10AM. Just sort of stumbled onto this place, call it a happy accident. We tried the Tempura Shrimp Taco (Tempura battered shrimp, slaw, pickled red onion, cilantro lime aioli) and the the Old School (Extra lean ground beef, spinach, tomato, cheddar, on a house made crispy shell). And yes I am cutting and pasting the ingredients of each menu item... Anyway, for those familiar with the 1st Street location, it is located adjacent to the street with a fine selection of picnic tables. Perfect place for dining on a warm summer or fall day. The tacos were great and if it was a bit later in the day we would have tried the queso and chips and the garlic fries, something to look forward to next time. Stopped by for an early dinner after studying at Seventh Flag Coffee across the street. Mellizoz is located in the same gravel area as the Gourdough's food truck. Service is the best part about Mellizoz! They actually mixed up my order, so I got the Migas and a Mushroom taco, instead of getting the fish which I ordered. They were so friendly and told me they would bring it out anyways. I wasn't too keen on the migas because I felt like the breakfast taco had zero flavor. We had to ask for lots of extra sauces to give a little kick to our tacos. The mushroom was surprisingly good...so juicy and so much more flavor compared to the migas. I wish their corn tortillas were a bit more soft/warm when they came out, but that's difficult to time in a food truck. We definitely left full and satisfied. They also sell merch and have tons of seating/picnic tables for larger groups. We saw a big family here and some families with little kids. I'd suggest saving room and getting one taco and a gourdough's donut crazy concoction after. I'm doing that in the future. Thanks Mellizoz, will be back for some quick taco orders. read more

My coworker raved about this taco joint and took me here during lunch hours on a weekday. It is conveniently located across the parking lot of Elizabeth Street Cafe and next to Gourdough's food truck. Surprisingly it wasn't scorching hot outside so sitting outdoors didn't bother me. The menu wasn't too extensive as they served chips and queso to tacos to tortas. I had the Slow Rider and the Padre, both served on flour tortillas. Right when I saw the Padre taco I knew it would be super messy eating it it was overly drenched with sauce. I wasn't a big fan as it tasted like a carne guisada and lacked flavor. The Slow Rider however was alright. I did enjoy the variety of salsa they had sitting at the picnic table, I utilized every kind to add more flavor to the tacos. Would I come back here again, probably not. I've had my fair share of good taco trucks growing up in San Antonio and this place serving Mexican Street tacos didn't meet up to my expectation. read more

We did the South Austin Trailer Park tour this weekend, it came down to a taco stand showdown: Izzoz vs Torchy's. We tried about 3 to 4 tacos from each place, some of which were the same - - such as the Fried Avocado. In the end I'd have to give the notch to Izzoz, 4.5 to 5 stars. As for the Fried Avocado, Izzoz was noticeably better. They were fresh, hot, and tastes awesome. The Padre (braised pork topped with pineapple, avocado and tomatillio salsa) was excellent as well - plenty of pork filling! The Migas Taco was excellent as well - - I think this one will replace my former fave: the Mi Madres Vegetarian - since it's more bang for the buck and still great quality. My friend had a new taco, called "The Veronica", which was the Migas Taco w/ spinach + mushrooms added. He added bacon and dubbed it "The Pope". I really liked that Izzoz caters to their customers, and coming up with new titles is a nice added touch that you don't get at other places. If I had a couple of suggestions? Grill the tortillas instead of steaming them, and expanding on their sauce offerings would be nice. I liked their sauce, but was hoping for 2 or 3 choices - - or something similar to that Dona (Taco Deli). Regardless, since I can't rate them 4.5 stars I'll round up to 5 stars as Izzoz Tacos really do rock as they have the best Fried Avocado in town! I will be back!! read more

This truck is in the perfect spot to get some really excellent tacos while you wait for the much longer line at the Gourdough's truck right next to it. - Migas Taco ($2.50) One of the better Migas tacos I had at one of these trucks, this was served hide and hot, which is part of the major improvement over some of the others. The copious amounts of cheese and tortilla strips really went well together with this one. - Bac-Spin Taco ($2.25) This was my favorite thing here - the flavor combination of eggs, bacon and spinach was awesome. The bacon and spinach were chopped up and mixed into the scrambled eggs, which made for a neat, really delicious taco. - Padre Taco ($3.50) Moving on to the lunch portion of the menu, the braised carnitas pork in this was delicious. This is a great choice if you are here for lunch. As most of the other customers seemed to be noticing too, the food took quite a long time to come out. However, I would take the wait over the alternative of faster service I received at other places where the food came out quickly and wasn't even hot. More than just a good snack to tide you over for Gourdough's, these tacos are worth a trip to this food truck park on their own. read more

I would rate Mellizoz Tacos four and a half stars. It's a large food truck located in a food truck park with plenty of picnic benches. We ordered guacamole and chips alongside a couple tacos. The guacamole was fresh and simple. The simplicity allowed the quality and the freshness of the ingredients to flourish. I ordered a grilled chicken taco. It was delicious. Great experience. We saw this place featured on TV (forget which show) and told ourselves, "Next time in Austin." Well this past weekend was that time and we made Izzoz our lunch stop on our way out of town. Our nephew (10), a very fussy eater, proclaimed "The Old School" taco "The best he ever had. Even better than mom's." Now his mom is Vietnamese, so I'm not sure about her tacos, but The Old School was indeed a very tasty taco. He also liked the garlic fries, and garlic is not on his "approved list" either. Thuy had a torta (pulled pork I think), and that's definitely a dish we would have again. The bread was treated particularly well; crisped up on the outside and soft on the inside. I had a "Fried Avocado" and "The Slowrider" tacos. Both were excellent, but the fried avocado was particularly tasty. I've never had fried avocado before and it was delicious. I would definitely order that again. The guys working this afternoon (8/4/2011 - Was one Izzoz? I should have asked) were great. They took a keen interest in our nephew's opinion, citing the honesty of kids. Just a quick walk to the food trucks and we were in heaven. Lots of different food options, reasonably priced and served quickly. We opted for the shrimp, shroom, old school and low rider. The shrimp was good, but I enjoyed the shroom much better because it had more depths of flavor. The old school with shredded beef was the bf fav, although the low rider with beef was also very good. Despite asking, the side of garlic fries was not crispy, but not soggy either. I go crazy for crispy, so wasn't thrilled. We ordered their organic green tea and lemonade which were both very good. We got the Queso Bacon Tacos (4 stars) off the specials menu. These were great! Not very crispy, but it has a thin layer with a light crunch. That's the way I like my fries. Mellizoz tacos has pretty good tacos for South Austin. It definitely feels similar to Torchy's, with a more outdoorsy vibe and the food is excellent as well. You'd think I'd try tacos given this place has tacos in its name and the ones that my friends got (fish taco, padre, slowrider) all looked good and hefty in size but I decided to go off the beaten path and try a torta instead, since I haven't had one of those in a very very long time. And I'm glad I did. I got the shredded beef one and its intensely flavorful, juicy and moist meat between a nice mexican roll. Add some slaw in there and you're good to go. Comes with garlic fries or chips and queso - I think I've had better fries elsewhere and the garlic flavor was just ok so I'd opt for queso and chips if I tried it again. All in all, great trailer and would recommend stopping by on a taco crawl. read more

Since my trip to Austin 4 weeks ago, I have not stopped talking about how good the tacos from here are. I was only in town for 3 days, and I ended up eating here 5 times. It was the first thing I ever ate in Austin ever and it was the last right before leaving. Coming from Colorado, I honestly expected a similar type of taco to be presented to me which was small and somewhat bland, only being flavored by the toppings. To my surprise, I got the opposite. I ended up starting with The Slowrider that I am convinced had a half pound of braised beef in it that had more flavor than any other braised beef I've ever had. The cotija and cilantro complimented it perfectly and when I was done, I instantly went to order another. In the 3 days I got more slowriders, The Old School and The Padre. All equally amazing and packed with flavor and portions. Price wise to me was also pretty great given the amount of food you actually get per taco. I get the same prices here for 1/3 of the filling. The service to me was also great as they would bring out your food to your personally and always were friendly and able to make modifications to your tacos as you seem fit. The setting was the typical food truck scene with picnic tables out in front with decent shade from trees and rain with a smaller parking lot out in front making parking a bit easier if you can get a spot. I really can't wait to eat these tacos again, and I highly recommend the same to anyone else passing through the area and looking for a quick bite. read more

My Austin friends kept raving about Izzoz. (another name that kept poppin up was Torchy's but we went with their fave) A Taco truck! I was so excited! You know what? non-yelpers know their stuff too. $1.75 lets you build your own taco with two ingredients. (anything else is extra) You can choose among eggs, bacon, cheese, sausage, chorizo, mushrooms, spinach, etc. Or if you're craving for a fried avocado taco, Izzoz has that too. I Knew one taco wasn't gonna suffice so I got two: cheese and spinach, and egg and sausage. An iced tea to offset the warm morning. There's plenty of outdoor seating with their wooden benches and metal chairs. Our spot was next to a creek and I will not forget that moment where I shared a simple brunch with friends, sitting outside, all of us silent as we savored our tacos. The flour tortilla was warm and soft, the melted cheddar cheese on my fresh spinach was lovely. My eggs fluffy and the sausage juicy. Been here a couple of times and yeah, it's actually that good. The slow-roasted beef tacos just ooze with flavor, and the pork tacos are the stuff of addiction. Fried avocado? Fahgetaboutit. This is the place I've been looking for that walks the line between great staple tacos, and the inventiveness of a place like Torchy's. Unlike Torchy's, though, these don't feel like an overpriced gimmick. It's not just greasy meat with, say, mango and peppers as a distraction. The flavor is fully cooked in and combinations just sing. Sizable tacos, too. I fully endorse the portabella mushroom taco for the veggie-inclined, and the salsa is great. So I tried this place, and man, were some things good, but some things were just plain bad. I had the escobar, the slow rider, and I attempted to have some queso. The good: The staff was very friendly. Cool. The tortillas were awesome. Warm and toasty. Great tortillas. Caramelized onions on the slow rider was pretty dang good. The so-so: The salsa was okay. It's like what you would get from a taco joint in a gas station. It was alright, but definitely not memorable. The meat in both the esobar and the slow rider were tender and juicy, but it didn't jump out at me as great. It was good, but just not great. The bad: For $4, I would give the queso a negative rating if I could. It was like nacho cheese. Plain and yellow with a little pico de gallo on top. I was severely disappointed. The flavor - like nacho cheese. And it wasn't even filled up to the top. See pic above. Comments from my undergrads who are standing over me now included: "That's what they call queso up North. This is Texas. They should know better." "It looks like something I would make, by microwaving a slice of cheese." Also, there were ants crawling all over the picnic tables. I love that the trailer park eatery options in Austin just keep getting better and better. Izzoz is a prime example - delicious, unique flavor combinations meet with low prices and a fun, casual setting. I first heard about Izzoz in a very complimentary Austin Monthly article - as an avid Torchy's fan, I had to try it. My expectations were far from exceeded - although it's a bit more expensive than Torchy's (which, in taco dollars is pretty minimal), the flavor difference is well worth it. Plus, the Trailer Park anchored by Torchy's is fun, but the crowds can be a little much. Izzoz is a great change of scenery. As a vegetarian, I can't vouch for much beyond a custom breakfast taco (the potatoes were absolutely amazing. I wanted to funnel them into my mouth); the fried avocado was spectacular as well. Yes... this was a good choice. I picked up The 04 and a Migas taco this morning. For a cool $5.00 and some change... and some tip... I thought "Huh, bit more than I'm used to shelling out for breakfast tacos." Flash forward to 2 1/2 minutes later at my desk after the first bite. Oh, that's why. Cause they're fuggin' good. Here's what they do right... more right than many other breakfast taco places: Portions - You are getting a normal-sized tortialla (you get a choice of corn or flour) but they really load them up. In no way, at all, was there a skimping on ingredients. I had at least two whole eggs in each taco. The 04 has bean, egg, bacon & avocado. The avocado, first of all was perfectly ripe ("Give me ripe avocado or give me death!" It's a famous quote, people say that.) and there was enough of it that I had to pick up the bits that fell outa the taco... Leave no man behind. The bacon is chopped and cooked to a crisp, then they're scrambled right into the eggs. This, my good people, is the ultimate breakfast taco technique. This way your eggs soak up the full flavor of the bacon and you get bacon in every single bite. It's amazing. The Migas taco - straightforward: Egg, Cheese, pico & corn tortialla strips. Yum. I saved it and had it for lunch. Their salsa is a red salsa and I could be wrong but I felt it was made with ancho - had a very strong and rich chipotle flavor. The seeds were firey hot and it's all in all a good really good. I'd ask for extra. I can't wait to try their tortas. Stomps every Columbus food truck by miles. I got to visit probably just under ten food trucks in Austin, and this city really knows where it's at when it comes to walk-up eateries. I'm ashamed that what most people consider Columbus's best such operation sells pizza I wouldn't feed to my dog. Austin food trucks do not serve drunk food. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner foods. Of those ten-ish I tried, Izzoz was easily the best. I ordered a migas taco, a fried avocado taco, and a Sweet Leaf iced tea. They have a ten dollar minimum on cards, but since my total was eight and change, they let me just throw the tip on for an even ten. When the food came out, I was aghast at the size of the tacos. How plentiful, with both coming in well under $3! The egg on the migas taco was so delicious, and the gooey cheese melting on top...but the fried avocado is where it was really at. Tempura battered avocado, arugula, cojita cheese...all good, but my god, the chipotle sherry vinaigrette sent this thing into space. So it's 41 degrees not including the windchill and the girlfriend and I are sitting at a picnic table about to eat some tacos. As I was losing feeling in my fingertips, I began to think how stupid this was. No one else had braved the temps for these tacos so we must be dumbasses. That is when these tin foiled presents of deliciousness arrived. I ordered The Padre and Slowrider. The slowrider was a shredded beef, cilantro, carmelized onions and I forgot what type of cheese. It was amazing. I devoured it way too fast. The 2nd taco was The Padre. The Padre was even better than the 1st. It was pork, avacado, pineapple, and salsa. The flavor combination made it the best taco I have ever had. These tacos almost made me forget how cold I was. I should have ordered more and just went back to the room and went into a warm food coma. Next time I am in Austin, I will definetely return. read more

You should give this place a shot considering the line at Gordoughs can tend to be long, you will not be disappointed. First I want to touch base on the service. It was nothing short of amazing. There was a slight miscommunication when it came to what I ordered and what was given to me. No worries, he told me, enjoy what was accidentally given to me(which was fantastic btw) and he will personally come and give me the right order. He even threw in free pop. At that point I was at a loss of words at the service provided. When we got what we had ordered I said, thanks you shouldn't have done all this and he replied with, he wanted to make it right. Now the food. The breakfast burrito was amazing and so was the Migas. Flavors were on point. The accidental order was fried avacdo tocos and boy I'm glad we got the wrong order. These tacos are fantastic. Great corn tortillas and I'm not usually a corn tort kinda gal. They're fast too. And fresh. Their salsa Verde ain't bad, to boot. When my taco came out I was shocked at how huge it was. A full meal all its own with ingredients filling the plate/bowl/basket thing. An entire half of am avocado on top and the eggs were prepared perfectly with the spinach and bacon throughout so every bite had every ingredient. I added some salsa and ate every bite. I don't think I'll be back... In general this place falls into the same category of taco mediocrity as torchy's. Great atmosphere if you're an outdoorsy person, but that's about it. The tacos are kind of tasty, you get your fair of 'fancy' and interesting combinations, but when put into my mouth nothing really seems to make me want to jump up and say "WOW!" There certainty is a bit going on in every taco, but... they're just lacking something. The migas taco is probably my favorite, they add these awesome over crisped tortilla chips, which makes it pretty amazing, but for the price of 2 of them you can get an entire plate of migas + chips, and drink if you search elsewhere. read more

Tacos are pretty delicious, but I find Torchy's to be a bit more filling.. Most tacos are around $3.50 & it will likely take 2 to get full. Maybe 3 for the guys. This food truck is located in a small dirt lot and shares the space with a couple of other food trucks. I ordered the Escobar taco (Carne guisada and Pico De gallo) and the Padre taco (braised carnival pork, avacado, pineapple and salsa fresca) and both were DELICIOUS! The meats were super juicy and tender and the vegetables were freshly prepared. The tacos were pretty price for the size (4 or 5 dollars per taco) but it was worth it. Disclaimer : there are 2 sauces you can add to your tacos, a red and a green sauce.
