One thing that stands out is the owner's pride in the establishment and their willingness to personally check in with guests, which adds a welcoming touch to the dining experience. My guest thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp and grits and had nothing but positive things to say. As the dining area and service areas are open plan you can easily see the duct tape doors to the dishwashers area is in dire need of repair versus patching. Also it is rather filthy along the edges. The wall a/c unit also needs to be completely cleaned as it appears to have some grime building up. Now for the biggest disappointment ... our food. Coffee - yummy Country fried steak biscuit..... yea nope not again. It's just like it says just a huge very thin slice of commercial packaged frozen patty of country fried steak laid across an open faced biscuit. I had a side of fresh fruit. But it was mostly out of season fruit so not sweet and still underripe. Biscuit was light and fluffy but I had to order a piece of cheese and some gravy to hide the flavor of the meat and coating. Chicken and waffles - husband's favorite here but today it wasn't the same at all. Chicken was super dry inside. Waffles he described as no different than ones he makes at the hotel lobby. All in all we will wait some before returning to try again at some point. Thank you to the wait staff for always having smiles and helping each other to keep us happy.

Had I known how close this place was and had it not been 95 degrees out, I'd have just walked. As it was, I drove past the correct street and it took another 5 minutes to circle the block in traffic. The restaurant was actually within 300 yards of the museum. If you are heading south on Museum Drive towards downtown, Church Street will be the first cross street you come to after the museum. Downtown Cartersville has a large road overpass that spans the train tracks. Under this bridge is a series of shops forming one block of several that make up the whole of the business district. The Appalachian Grill is located on the row of shops under the bridge. An added bonus for us was that there is street parking out front and it was well shaded due to the bridge! There appeared to be one or more public lots within half a block also. The restaurant opened within a minute of when we exited the car. There was a small crowd already waiting, and at noon they opened the doors. I think there was a small fenced patio space along the sidewalk but no one was initially interested in that due to the heat. The interior has a sort of lodge-meets-Frank Lloyd Wright feel in terms of the decor. It is also a bit dim / cozy. I worried that the servers would be overwhelmed by the opening crowd, but they handled it quite well. Our server returned relatively frequently to get our drink orders and later our food requests. There was a slight wait after that, but given the influx of customers, it wasn't as long as I might have guessed. The menu was quite varied, and ranged from salads and burgers up to steaks. This is probably fine dining adjacent in the evenings for dinner. I got a BLT and my wife got a Portobello mushroom sandwich. Both of us opted for the 'steak fries'. The amount of food was surprisingly large! We managed to finish our sandwiches and a few of the fries, but had a take-out box of fries for later too. We both liked our sandwiches. While I tend to like steak fries, these were like the big brother of your average type. They were more like potato wedges than large-body fries. Maybe they are new, as the server asked me at the end what I thought of them. My honest opinion, which I shared, was that they were good, but would be better if the potatoes were peeled and if the size of each fry was halved. We did end up finishing them a few days later. Prices were not cheap but were not out of line for the type of establishment and the quality (and quantity) of food. I might try this place for dinner as opposed to lunch if I came back to Cartersville. I'd certainly recommend it for a meal.

This tall elderly woman who I assume was a manager verbally assaulted me for being a black midget. I asked if they had chicken wings to which she responded "of course that is what you want" and followed with "our bar doesn't have 40 ounces either." I could not believe my ears. As the night went on I found her staring me down and stopping servers to point at me. I have struggled with my height for many years and do not need some icelandic troll looking woman to not only judge me for this but my skin color as well. The owner should be ashamed assuming he isn't only giving this job to her because she gives some insane guck guck. Disgusted by this place and this manager. DO BETTER! Another one bites the dust. We have eaten at this Mellow Mushroom often with our registered therapy dog and golden retriever, Sneakers. In fact I have held events with multiple persons here, contributing hundreds of dollars in sales, always with our dog welcomed as we dine in the patio area, but no more. Last weekend we were unceremoniously turned away because the weather was not amenable to the dog joining us. While waiting for pizzas to go, I ordered garlic parmesan wings. What came out was bad. They looked extremely wet and glossy, almost slimy, with an odd orange tint and yellowish chunks in the sauce. Garlic parmesan wings should be relatively dry, with crisp skin, garlic, and grated cheese. These were soaking wet and visually off-putting. The texture was even worse. The wings were soggy, soft, and smushy, as if they had been boiled or steamed rather than fried. The skin had zero crispness and no structure at all. Completely limp. I prefer extra-crispy wings, and these were the exact opposite. Flavor didn't redeem them. These were, without exaggeration, the worst wings I've ever been served, both in texture and taste. If I had tasted the first one myself, I would have sent them back immediately. Unfortunately, my girlfriend ate two before I tried one, so I bit the bullet and paid for them without mentioning it to the kitchen. I hate lowering the score, especially after a better prior experience, but no one should be paying for wings like that. Hopefully this gets addressed, because the staff and the pizza deserve better than being dragged down by something so avoidable.
