Katie was our server. She did an excellent job helping us with our order. We used the scan feature on the phone to see the menu as part of their Covid-19 precautions. We were seated outside on a cool breezy evening and enjoyed an absolutely beautiful sunset. The food came quickly and was hot and ready to eat. The crust was a beautiful deep golden brown. The base was crisp and tasted like a bread dough. The sauce was ordered light and added a hint of zesty pesto flavor to the entree. The f We will suggest that our friends add on their calendarslavors were rounded out by a gentle blending of garlic, oregano and basil with a hint of bay leaf. I'm in Birmingham on business and my boss wanted to give Mellow Mushroom a try. We were seated immediately and got our drink orders in, but when we said we needed a minute to look over the menu that translated into a pretty long wait time. But, to be fair, I think the waitress was working solo and had a few larger parties. The pizza was absolutely delicious and well worth the wait! Finding a vegan option off the freeway in the south was a mini-miracle to us. And we were further surprised by the great service and good food! Make your own pizza and calzones, salads, hummus, etc. my daughter and I went with the vegan cheese, veggies and tofu. Comes with a side of red sauce for dipping. And the calzones are huge. There is plenty of parking and plenty of seating. It's a very laid back environment. To add to the down to earth appeal, the menu overflows with ideas for pizzas, snacks, calzones, sandwiches and even salads. If you are concerned for nutrition, they have you covered. I am a fan of the gluten-free options and salads, the cornucopia of ingredients to make your own pizza, and, the freshness. If ZERO was possible I would give that simply for a horrible manager that ill tempered and has no business being over others when he is inconsiderate, rude, smells like pot, an just all around never a good person to the customers or employees. We come fairly often an on multiple times have dealt with Tyler? ( I think that's his name) and he is ALWAYS amazing but since we learned a new owner has bought this store and put this manager in we've started going less. The guy has dreads and is horrible he has no common decency to listen and understand but has no problem telling orders while doing nothing to the servers about tables needing to be cleaned and they are all busy and have their hands full. We had Jane weekend before last as our server and she was a delight we recognized her from before working in the kitchen and were placed in her section she was VERY knowledgeable and answered all questions we had and if she couldn't figure it out she was up front about it and got someone else who could, i personally hated hearing she was leaving but was happy to hear she found a job at a better place from what I could see happening she never left on to what we where able to see happening and god only knows what is happening when people aren't there. I pray for these team members mental state if they work here especially with the dread manager bc him telling people to shut up and just do it while they are doing their jobs and trying to please him as well. We now have actually left when we see him because I don't want my young teen kids to see what kind of managers that some people sadly hire. On top of that we've seen this place slide way down hill. Bartenders drinking behind the bar, also leaving for 20+ min then yelling when servers get their own drinks. Who ever the new owner is I pray for your pocket because you've got a manager running your business into the ground, an I hope you can make your money back somehow someday but as long as he's there this place will NEVER have staff an will always have long wait times. Kudos to those who can endure verbal abuse because we all know it's worse behind closed doors then when they're open. It's sad to see our favorite restaurant go so far down an sadly we won't be returning if we see this manager there and will be making sure to spread the word to our friends family and church group because NO one should support a business who treats their employees like they're nothing more then something stuck to the bottom of their shoe. read more

Every visit here, we find there are always very friendly staff and the food is very consistent in that it's always excellent.

Every time we come we see a decline in service and quality of food. I predict that when Slice opens on Cahaba River Rd this location will close. Rego was our waitress. She acted like she had never been trained to waitress. Barely spoke. Acted put out when asked questions. She even acted like she was maybe on something. You get that vibe from all the staff there. We were just driving through and saw there was one close, so we went here. Very underwhelming. The pizza was so so. Waited ten minutes for a server, which was extremely long since there was only one other table occupied. Once we ordered, It was thirty-five minutes before one of us got food. This was our first visit to Mellow Mushroom, and are we glad we chose it. The pizza is delicious! We ordered a Holy Shiitake and a House special, plus a mushroom soup and some wings. The mushroom pie was amazing! The great mushroom flavor and the chewy/crispy crust really worked well together. The House Special was your classic combo pizza, and it was loaded up with enough toppings and cheese to make it work nicely with the thick crust. The red sauce tastes great as well. The soup was pretty good, as well as the wings. All of these things would be worth ordering again. Too bad there aren't any locations here in California! read more

This review is based on a carryout order. Pies are good. Service was good. Prices were off-putting. Twenty-eight dollars for a pie is a little high. I understand it's premium ingredients, dough made with spring water, etc. We get it. Two large pies and a small cheese for kids was $72. We got the Mighty Meaty and the Mega-Veggie minus the Tofu. Mighty Meaty was as advertised; lots of meat and nice amount of spice. Mega-Veggie is coming with TONS OF VEGGIES. This includes artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes and broccoli. They do have plates, napkins, Parmesan cheese and spices to go. If you have a big group, go somewhere else. After being fans of Mellow Mushroom for years at other locations, we had a very disappointing visit here. If there was an manager on site we couldn't tell. The pizza wasn't nearly as delicious as usual, very short on toppings and sauce. Good thing we like the crust because that's mostly what it was. The most surprising part of our visit was seeing employees go over to the bar and drink shots and then go right back to work. This was the weirdest dining experience we have ever had. There was no hospitality, our server was annoyed that we were even there. The restaurant is huge and it was practically empty. There was no reason for the poor service that we received. We had to ask for things that would normally be set at the table when you are seated. Like napkins and utensils. When our appetizer came, it was left on the table without plates, utensils or napkins. We signaled a server for assistance and it was obvious that we were out of line. And yes, it took a while for the pizza and salad to arrive. The only saving grace this place has is that the food was good. We showed up and there were very few people in the restaurant. We needed two highchairs but for some reason we were sat in a booth not far from some empty tables. We ordered the House Special without black olives. What we got was the House Special WITH olives. I ordered a Bud Light on tap. I'm not sure what was going on with the tap, but I left about 3/4 of the glass full on the table. Worst tasting beer I have ever had. Not the typical experience we normally have here. I think it's the dough and the unique flavor combinations that separates it from most other places.
