Ok.... After over 30 minutes. Had to go to the bar and ask for our beers. After over one hour the food arrives. Ordered a sausage calzone with no spinach. Received a spinach calzone with no sausage. WTF.!!! If a server can't bring you a beer don't have it on the menu. If you can't ask for something different then just say no substitutions. Should have left after the first 30 minutes. read more

Just arrived to Birmingham for a business trip and when we ventured out for food around 8:00 P.M. it seemed that a lot of places were closed and those that were open were more of a bar scene. We ended up at this Mellow Mushroom and it was pretty good. I tried their Jerk Chicken sandwich which was pretty good, the menu said it was available at this location only. It came with a house side salad that was loaded with so many toppings it really could be a meal itself. For the price the food was fantastic, but since it was so late at night the service was a little slow. That said, our waiter was nice and it didn't take long for our food to arrive. The place did have a slow stream of guests with a party of 12 being seated as we were leaving so they definitely stay open late! read more

We placed our order tonight and they said 30-35 minutes. When we showed up they said our pizza got burnt and they were redoing them. Finally got food 1 1/2 hours after we ordered and they left off sauce for our pretzel bites. Called again. They said will be it right out, and it finally came out 10 minutes later. Oh, what can I say about this gem of a place? The first time I came here with my family and friends, I ordered a tofu hoagie. Absolute perfection! Was so surprised that they carried vegan/strict-vegetarian options at the restaurant that was palatable and scrumptious. Strike 1 - We were seated outside. After 15 mins of no service someone FINALLY came over. Strike 2 - We ordered garlic bread to start and we each order a small sandwich as our entree. Went here one night just for drinks. I found the service to be slow. They did change the tv channel for us so we could watch the Bears game. I ordered rootbeer float. It was 6 buck and consisted of one scoop of boring ice cream and a bottle of rootbeer. I thought it was plain and over priced. My co workers order beer but it took them 3 times to pick a beer that they actually had. My other co worker order bottled water and they were out of that too. read more

By far my favorite pizza chain that I can get in most bigger cities. Of course the prices are higher because this is not your cheap, frozen pizza or delivery joint. I will gladly put out the money for this pizza. They also have great other things from salads to sandwiches and appetizers and desserts. I've never gone wrong here. And it's a super chill atmosphere; very down-to-Earth folk usually. read more

I've yet to try a menu item from Mellow that I didn't like! I've had almost every pizza, sandwiches, calzones, and soup (tomato bisque rocks) and I have no complaints. The handmade pretzels are delicious, as well. Yes, it takes a little longer to get your food, but everything is made and baked fresh to order. I'll happily wait a few more minutes for that. Not to mention, there's a great atmosphere, & plenty of TVs to keep you entertained. The wait staff has always been fantastic - especially TJ at the Inverness location. Don't listen to the naysayers and check out Mellow Mushroom for yourself! It's not the typical fast food, greasy pizza delivery place. But that's what makes it better! read more

I've been a fan of Mellow a while but hadn't eaten there in years. We received a pretty good coupon in the mail so we decided to give the downtown location a try. I like the atmosphere and location of this Mellow. Nestled in the Five Points district of downtown Birmingham, it has a laid back feel and clientele and staff that I can get along with. We ordered the Thai pizza which was new for me but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was just as delightful as all their other offerings. If you're feelin froggy I would try it as a calzone and ask for extra of the sauce it comes with. You won't regret it. All in all, this is a great establishment with great food and a nice brew list. read more

I loved the Holy Shitake pizza and my crust was tender, yet crunchy. The pretzels appetizer with beer cheese was surprisingly delectable. ok so we came here for my birthday lunch because we heard good things about the restaurant... lets just say expectations were NOT met. after we were seated (in the middle of the restaurant!), we were left stranded with no server and no drinks for around 20-30 minutes. finally, a server came to us after waiting forever and brought us waters, after we ordered as well because we had so much time. the food took a good while to come out and it was pretty good. this is when things got worse. we ate and were left sitting at our table for almost 2 hours. 2 whole hours. like. we were clearly done eating and no server would even come back to check on us so that we could ask for the tab. this meant that we also got to refills of water or anything the whole time. we waited and waited until one of us had to go up and walk all the way across the restaurant to ask for the check and mention that it was my birthday. they then proceeded to take an ungodly amount of time to bring out the measly brownie (which had to be packed in a to-go box due to the unwanted amount of time we spent there). As a broke college kid, this was not the experience I wanted to spend my money on, especially for my birthday. I am unimpressed. read more

I ordered a large Gourmet White with jalapenos and bacon on half online tonight and chose to pick it up 40 minutes later... It is sooo yummy! I prefer the slice I ate with jalapeno and bacon to the regular Gourmet White slice I ate as well. It gives it that extra punch. Next time I'll order it without onions though. I also ordered cinnamon and honey pretzels but am so stuffed that I haven't indulged yet. I will write a follow-up review once I binge on them. The pizza is very good as it should be since the price range isn't a $5 Hot-N-Ready Little Caesars pepperoni. The crust is crunchy by the way and the pizza is flat; reminds me of NY style. My roommate recommended Mellow Mushroom to me and I will definitely pay it forward and go back. Next time I think I'll order the Kosmic Karma or Magical Mystery Tour. Two thumbs up! read more

Besides the fact that I am almost certain our waitress is always high when we come (yes, we always seem to get seated by the same outdoor waitress) - we always have a really great time. Food is always good. My only suggestion is to hit the ganja one less time before coming to work to avoid having to ask my order multiple times and having an awkward conversation with people having their own conversation. read more

Not only was everything delicious, the service was all around excellent and in fact above and beyond. This was my first at-restaurant meal since the start of the pandemic (all of us adults in the family are now vaccinated!) and the outside dining was perfect. Looked like folks were all masked when I went inside to the bathroom. I had my autistic kid with me who didn't like the way the pizza looked compared to the New York style cheese pizza she was expecting and wouldn't eat her slice. She didn't care that Mellow Mushroom pizza is delicious just the way it is, but I wasn't surprised since food aversions/preferences are part and parcel with autism. I mentioned it to the server and asked about fries, which I didn't expect them to have ... even though I told him it was fine since I'd brought some snacks she would eat, he came out later and brought a personal size pizza the staff had made just for her, aiming for the style she was expecting, at no additional charge! It was SO thoughtful and she did in fact love it! It helped us stay longer and have a wonderful family meal ... after all these months of only doing takeout, it helped make our day even more special. I adore Mellow Mushroom. I prefer the location on Valleydale near 280, but this one is great as well. GREAT vegan options, just remember to order your pizza without the butter and parm on the crust. They have tempeh, tofu, and vegan cheese. They can make the pretzels vegan for you. The pesto is not vegan, making the pesto tofu not vegan. I could eat there every. day. Try the hummus! read more

The mellow mushroom is just that. A mellow little restaurant with a nice relaxing vibe. The food comes out piping hot and tastes really good to boot. If you're not that hungry they have a nice selection of smaller items as well as some tasty "beverages" to mellow you out even farther. The only downside is sometimes parking can be a pain. On top of great pizza and great beer selection, this store has great customer service. I filed a complaint through their website assuming i'd never hear anything back but instead received a call from the store manager explaining the situation and giving me an opportunity to come back to the store and make it right. I love their soft pretzels. My wife goes by and picks them up for me on her way home from work. The Greek salad is also really good. But if you order on line or call an order in. I strongly suggest you check the order before you leave. They have left off salad dressing and beer cheese for the pretzels. We have even paid for extras and they didn't put them in the to go bag. read more

Its been several weeks since we have been to the Mellow Mushroom. All i have to say is "FANTASTIC" as always. My wife and i have eaten here many many times and have never been disappointed with either the food or service. The servers are always friendly and the food is always cooked perfectly. This time me, my wife and daughter went for a late lunch. We ordered the six pretzels that come with marinara. They were nice and brown. When you bit into one it was crunchy on the outside and a nice soft dough inside. They were very good. And for lunch we had the house pizza, we dont like tomatoes so they were left off the pizza. The pizza was very hot right from the oven and omg it was great. If your looking for a great place to eat pizza definitely give mellow mushroom a try, you won't be disappointed. read more
