Came here twice for pizza with friends. Loved that we got to order exactly what we wanted have a vegan friend who loved the vegan cheese and tempeh options so much that we had to go back. We placed an order over the phone 10 mins before they closed and rushed over they were very pleasant even with the last minute order and passing the phone around to each person (we were all over the place that night). This review is only related to my most recent visit to this location. I've had previous visits to other locations and one previously to this location and all those experiences were good. Today, I sat at the bar for lunch and ordered 2 slices of pizza with two toppings on each slice as well as a well vodka and club soda. I originally ordered the slices to go but changed my mind to eat in before the slices came out. Instead of putting the slices on a plate for me they were handed to me in a box. Fine. The "bartender" then disappeared for 10 minutes so I couldn't order anything else to drink while I was eating my slices. The bill came and i was clearly overcharged and when I pointed that out I was chastised by the "bartender" with an attitude and another patron at the bar. My bill was $19.88 for two slices w/ 2 toppings and a well vodka drink. The vodka drink, which I ordered well vodka was $6.50. That means I paid $6.69 per slice. Highway robbery. And the crust of the pizza was undercooked. The "bartender" clearly didn't know what she was doing as she also charged me for a soft drink which I didn't order and wasn't asked if I even wanted it. And she charged me twice for the toppings. Clearly incompetent and wasn't interested in making it right so beware at this location. read more

Just walked in by myself at a weird hour and everyone was crazy, crazy nice. Like three people came up and asked if I was doing okay and if I'd been helped. Corey and his friendliness really made my day, especially when I got caught up in the sensory input of the incoming dinner rush and forgot how credit cards worked for a minute- tried to go up to the to-go counter to pay ‍. Even the guy cleaning my table when I came back to sit down and wait for my check was incredibly polite and nice. But if you someday find yourself in the Tampa-Brandon (FL) area, far from your own personal standard of perfection, I recommend the Mellow Mushroom. Clean, upbeat family pizzeria restaurant with the best pizza I can remember. You may just decide to move here just to be near your new favorite pizzeria. 3 weeks later and we returned. It was packed. We were out running errands and decided to try your place. My husband was intrigued by the GF offerings (also vegetarian). We got there around 1:30 and was told it would be about a 30 min wait. No problem, it's Sunday and it gets busy. Our waitress was really pleasant. I ordered 5 wings and the Holy Shitake thin crust pizza, he ordered a Greek salad and a regular pizza with a GF crust. The salad came out and it had a weird flavor. Like old lettuce he said. It didn't look bad but just had a strange flavor. I tasted it myself and agreed. My wings came out very hot but not crisp in the least. When I read "crispy double baked" that's what I expected. Our pizzas took a really long time. My thin crust was great on the outside crust. I loved the crispness and the Parmesan flavoring but the middle was completely soggy. It was hard to pick up. I wish it could have been crispier on the bottom. The aioli tasted like straight mayo. Luckily there wasn't too much but any time I'd get that bite it was off putting. The mushrooms were great, just thought the whole thing lacked a little something. His pizza lacked that same something. He had a red sauce and he said it was like plain canned tomato sauce. I've got nothing against canned sauce, but spice it up a bit. He said the GF crust was decent though. We had a party of 8 on Mother's Day. We called ahead with short notice and they were able to save us a table which was usually not their protocol. The server came and grabbed drink orders from us even though our whole party wasn't there yet. During this trip there was a deal on free pretzel bites with a yelp check in. We ordered those and immediately they were gone. Everyone scarfed them down. The beer cheese sauce was fantastic and we saved some for our pizza crusts. We ordered three pizza. Two pepperoni and one Great White. All extremely delicious and flavorful. What sets mellow mushroom apart from all other pizza is their pizza dough flavor. I don't know what exactly they do to make it uniform to every chain but it's the best crust I've ever had and that's saying a lot because I grew up on authentic New York style pizza. I love pizza and I LOVE Mellow! Mellow Mushroom is a pizza joint decorated like an acid trip. Here, you can get hoagies, pizzas, calzones or even pizzas that you want to be calzones- they'll make your wishes come true. I love the decorations here with all sorts of colors and some great music oldies, entertaining for all ages. The pizza here is awe worthy, with the fluffiest crust and the best crunch. My favorite customization is with the Mellow Red Sauce with tomato, ricotta cheese, spinach, roma tomatoes and curry chicken! It was highly praised by the chefs in the kitchen according to my wonderful server, Kristen! Kristen was the light of the night, smiling and so patient! I've had her my past two visits and I'm glad I have- she's part of the Mellow experience for me now! There aren't many options for dessert, but that's okay because by the end of your meal you can't afford to even THINK about some dessert. But.. I COULD! I tried the brownie sundae and I was pretty surprised at how great it tasted. The brownie was fluffy and the ice cream was soft so lucky for me, they sell the brownies individually too! I finally tried Mellow Mushroom this weekend after people have been telling me how good it is for years. Although the pretzels bites wiere delicious, I wasn't over the top impressed with much else. Both of the cocktails I ordered were served with about an inch missing from the rim of the cup, which I thought was unusual (throw some extra ice on top at least). The bbq chicken pizza was okay but not anything I'd order again. The greek salad was good (and free with a Yelp check in). Lastly, the service was not anything to write home about. I will definitely try this place out again but maybe at one of their other locations next time. read more

I was so disappointed when my local mellow mushroom restaurant closed...so I take any chance I get to visit another location! I checked in on Yelp, and there was a coupon for pretzel bites! Our server advised that there would be a wait, that at times they can take longer than the pizza! We also ordered a bruschetta and my favorite - the Maui Wowie pizza! All of the food was so good!!! The bruschetta has such great flavor, it melts in your mouth! The Maui Wowie pizza is such a great combination of chicken, bacon, pineapple and pesto...and the crust is amazing! The pretzel bites did take that little bit longer, but they were delicious too! Served with beer cheese and marinara dipping sauces, they were so soft and yummy! Food: Delicious, and so many yummy vegan and non-vegan options! They also have a great variety of gluten-free and traditional vegetarian food. No matter your diet restrictions, you'll find something on the menu. Since other reviews focus plenty on the non-vegan options, I'm going to focus on vegan menu items/mods. If you're ordering a pizza, ask for vegan cheese and vegan crust. Top your pizza with vegan proteins like tempeh and tofu! I love their hoagies (the avocado, tempeh, tofu hoagies are already amazing; just ask for no mayo and no cheese) and if you're wanting to go low-carb, all of these toppings are available for the Build Your Own Salad menu item. Literally everything I've had here has been beyond delicious. Drinks: This location has a full liquor and decent selection of wines by the glass. If you're a Cabernet drinker, they have some solid cabs under $6/glass. Service: Very accommodating and enthusiastic. Casually hip. With Build Your Own menu items, there's no weirdness in crafting your own meal or asking about ingredients. Atmosphere: Hip yet also kid-friendly. 60s decor and music. Mellow mushroom is one of mt favorite restaurants.. I first became hooked at their original location in Gainesville FL and still am! This resturant has great food, beer, and ambience. In this location the walls are painted in a trippy tie dye manner... pardon my bluntness but that's the only way I could accurately describe it, lol. I frequent this resturant often and always have great to pretty good service. On this visit, I sat at the bar and was served by Janna. She was very knowledgeable about the beer selection. When I asked if they had any rotating taps that were not on the menu she found me the recent tap menu that changes. I ordered a beer called Death by Coconut by Oskar blues. It was a rich, complex, and amazing. When I went to order the pizza slices for lunch she went out of her way to check topping prices for me so that I would get the best value. I ended up getting a pepperoni and bacon and pepperoni and mushrooms. These pieces were bigger then my hand and cost only $3.50 each! Hope this helped and happy eating! read more

Sure you're still able to order your most common pepperoni, sausage, etc, but you'd be wasting your trip! Mellow Mushroom has the BEST outside-the-box combonations of pizzas anywhere! So.much.flavor. My favorites - Kosmic Karma, Magical Mystery Tour, and the Mega Veggie. Loaded with toppings, unique bases, and their dough is so tasty I even finish the crust! Where else can you order a Thai inspired pizza with curry and chili sauce? Sometimes I just like a little Jakarta-flavor in my belly. Even their other dishes are worth ordering. I've had quite a few in my many visits. The hummus is a good standby, as well as their spinach artichoke dip - it usually takes us two mountains of chips to finish all of the dip. The Portabella hoagie is always super fresh. This sandwich is BIG. I can usually only eat a Half portion. Definitely recommend this or their stuffed portabella cap if you're a fungi-fan. Also, be sure to order the garlic cheesy bread with marinara appetizer. Craving = fulfilled. And the best friend pizza ever had? A full service bar with some of the best beers on tap. If you plan to head to this location on the weekend, be prepared to wait or make a reservation! It is family friendly and quite loud. The food is very good, although on the expensive side. Small pizzas run $10-$15. Large pizzas are $20-$25. They are gourmet and the ingredients are very fresh. Appetizers are usually small and shareable among small groups. The beer selection is great for a chain restaurant. At the Brandon location there is a rotational Funky Buddha, Founders, New Belgium, Cigar City and many many more. That's just drafts. The bottle menu is also large. Most drafts run $5-$6. My server tonight was very attentive and knowledgable. She readily accepted a groupon that we had. First time here and I thought the atmosphere was really cool with the comfy booths and spacious bar area. Our server was super friendly and good on customer service. We tried the pretzel appetizer in butter and salt with a side of mustard and they were so unbelievably fresh! You could tell that they used homemade dough! I will definitely be ordering those for take out sometime soon, definitely must try the Parmesan and garlic as well as the cinnamon sugar ones. We ordered two pizzas - small and medium. The small is honestly a little larger than a personal pizza and the price for that was a little steep at about $13 each, however you could tell the ingredients were so fresh and the recipe unique that it's worth it. We tried the Funky Q. Chicken (their take on a barbecue chicken pizza) and the Red Skin Potato Pie (just amazing-ness if you like potatoes, bacon, cheese, onions, and sour cream). Their crust was perfectly soft with just the right amount of crunch and a medium thickness.
