I have wanted to try this place out for awhile now. I'm typically in this area on business, so I'm often dining alone, which usually means I like to eat in the bar. The bar at this place on a Friday night, forget about it! Sadly I had to give my name to the hostess to get a table. The 19 year old hostess shouted "my name, table for one!", then sat me at an awkward table in the middle of the restaurant. In hindsight I probably should have ordered my pizza to go. The staff is very young (green) but friendly. The pizza was good, but it was GREAT on day two! It was like a day in the fridge made some magic happen. Some VERY good, interesting pizzas here. Lots of decent beers on draft too, although pitchers of beer can run a little expensive. An appetizer, pizza, and two pitchers ran over $60. A bit pricey for a pizza dinner, but that was the best non-NY style pizza I've had in as long as I can remember. Service was fine, maybe a touch on the slow side, but definitely not detrimental to our experience. I'm looking forward to coming back and getting another one. Awful parking. read more

My boyfriend and I were driving back to Ft. Myers and decided to stop on the way back at Mellow Mushroom! We did come during rush hour (7PM) and the place was packed! Thankfully we only had to wait about 18 minutes before being seated. Although the place was packed, our server Briannah did a great job getting our order and getting us our food as soon as possible. My boyfriend and I shared the Greek salad with their house made dressing (Esperanza). This salad is a favorite of mine and has a lot of flavor! She was kind enough to bring an extra bowl out for us to share the salad with. We both ordered the smallest size pizza. I ordered the Kosmic Karma and added artichoke hearts. My boyfriend ordered the holy shiitake pie and got his with the thin crust. Both pizzas were amazing and we kept our Esperanza dressing to dip our leftover pizza crust into- so delicious. We are so excited about he Mellow Mushroom opening up in Ft. Myers! This place is a must to visit! read more

I have mixed reviews about this place. I had the steak and cheese hoagie. The bread was the only thing delicious about this sandwich. The meat was so BLAND!!! Also, there was more meat on one half of my sandwich than the other (see photo). I didn't even eat the left half because there was no meat on the on it. There were two little humps of meat on there and the last 1/3 of the sandwich had nothing. If the sandwich was seasoned properly it would have been perfect. I also got to try the mighty meaty pizza. It was awesome! Now these people know how to make pizza. They need to stick to what they know and what they know is pizza in my opinion. It was a perfect amount of meat and cheeses without it falling off. My favorite was the parm on the crust. Great prices, nice atmosphere, and nice service! Great calzone! We came here for a late dinner. We started off with chicken wings with Sweet Thai chili sauce. The wings were on the small side, but were cooked good, and the sauce was delicious. We built our calzone with some ingredients from all the different sections. It turned out to be way more expensive than I anticipated, but everything was delicious. The service was very good, and the dining area was nice and clean. Some nice music set the mood, which was a nice touch. Great lighting, and wonderful ambience. Overall, we had a very nice dinner. met some friends in the Brandon area and needed some food before heading back to Tampa.Yelped out this location and it was a winner of a dinner. Seven of us did not wait more than a few minutes to get a table. Our waitress was spot on in service-she walked over with water before we asked and told us about her favorite appetizers. Used the Yelp check in for a plate of pretzel bites with very tasty beer chees dip.Ordered the brushetta as well and it was eaten as the plate was put on the table- it was delish with plenty of fresh basil.Ordered the shitake mushroon pie ,which was very good.Also a half pepperoni and half greek.It was good and full of feta on the greek side. Our food and service were great that night. The decorations in the dining area are great old vinyl's in their original jackets giving us plenty of fodder for conversations.I did own the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon in college and still own it today. My kids both got a kick out of that. read more

We came by for some pizza and were not disappointed. We were seated right away and our waiter was quick to take our drink order. For and appetizer we had bbq wings, they tasted good but were on the small side. We had the Pacific Rim (ham, pineapple, jalapeño) and the Mighty Meaty. The pizza has a great crust and had the right amount of sauce. The restaurant was busy but our pizza came out fairly quickly. The tables were kept clean and the store was in general clean. I think this might be our new pizza place. read more

Fantastic restaurant for vegan pizza with friendly servers. They offer Daiya cheese, tofu, and tempeh . Their tempeh is out of this world! It can get expensive if you build your own pizza so might be better off choosing a prearranged pizza. I had the bruschetta appetizer and a small pizza with daiya cheese, mushrooms and tempeh . Pizza was delicious as always even though the crust was a little dry , but the bruschetta was disappointing . The tomatoes tasted odd and the bread was soggy . Yikes! Figured I'd give this place a try. The customer service was great as well as the flavor in food. My only complaints was that the set up of this place is odd you walk in and there are drink fountains in the front of the store. There was actually a puddle leaking from the machine and I slipped slightly while leaving. I informed a waiter that there was a spill hoping she would take care of it after leaving. The other thing was my pizza was cooked well but the crust was oddly different sizes. With pizza it's usually expected to have the crust a certain way. I love pizza and I always look forward to biting into a nice evenly portioned crispy garlic crust! If it's too big it's too much bread and hard to enjoy the ending! I wouldn't say it's horrible but I would settle for this place if nothing was open. It's slightly overpriced for what you get. read more

I had a great experience here like usual. We enjoyed the sweet Thai chili wings and the house special pizza. We sat at the bar and our server was so awesome. He was very quick with our order and never let our drinks get too low. He gave great drink recommendations while we were waiting and made sure our wings came out quick since we were so hungry. The wings were seasoned perfectly and baked to perfection. The pizza was a size large and was able to feed 3 adults and child and we still had left overs for everyone. We will definitely return to this mellow mushroom. read more

I heard two people say how great the pizza is here, and Holy Shitake were they right! (Obviously this was our order for the evening). They have a wonderful selection of veggie options and I want to get the avocado hoagie next time I come in. Because there WILL be a next time! Our server Christal was very enthusiastic and efficient. This was my first visit to the Mellow Mushroom. I ordered the sausage fest calzone. It was absolutely delicious. Packed full of so much meat. This was a Birthday dinner of 5 adults and 2 children. The Friday night wait wasn't bad at all for as busy as the restaurant was. We were able to get drinks at the bar while we were waiting for our table. One of our party had dietary restrictions and she was accommodated beautifully. She was GF and Dairy Free. Our drinks were always full and our waitress was absolutely great. Unfortunately I do not remember her name but she had a black hand brace on her left hand I believe. Great recommendations and so friendly. I will return! read more

My favorite pizza short of Chicago! Great staff, superior beer selection, plenty of salads and sandwiches to keep the rest of the Krewe smiling. Tomato and Mozzarella salad is my wife's fav. The pizza crust is a wheaty kind of deliciousness that The Mush has perfected. Lost one star due to an incorrectly cooked pie on a previous visit and yes we demand a perfect pie! The pizza was actually pretty good.. I had a small 1/2 Funky Q Chicken and 1/2 Holy Shiitake pizza.: the Holy Shiitake was amazing! The service was soo slow though. . We waited a long time to just order our food and drinks. It also took a while for the things we ordered to arrive.. I would go back because the pizza was good but maybe at an off time.. not that they were really busy or anything bit maybe they won't be as busy at on off time. Not your average pizza, but in a good way, they have interesting combinations that work. I've had several of their pies and they're all delicious. They also offer glutten free crust if that's something that you're looking for. They have a great selection of beer, and this one of my favorite things about this chain. They carry several local breweries such as Cigar City, Coppertail, 7th Sun, and a few others. The only complaint I have is the parking situation. It's in a popular plaza with a lot of businesses so parking can be rough. read more

I wouldn't pick this place to get pizza with all the other pizza places around Brandon that are better, but this is a good place to grab a beer. My husband and I like to go here to sit at the bar and we will order pizza while at the bar. This place is your place if you like specialty pizzas, they have A LOT of them! I love the pizza in this place. Don't order online because it got our order wrong. We came to pick up and had to wait while they sorted it out. Ultimately they fixed the issue. The wife and I had a drink at the bar while we waited. The pizzas were good though. Recommend calling your order in if you're picking up. read more

I have been coming to this place for almost 10 years now and service been getting worse and worse due to either lack of staff or time management. This is easily one of my favorite places to come when everything goes right; staff is timely and efficient, and food is almost always good plus there is a nice environment... But why am I always waiting almost 2 hours for my pizza. My thoughts are, if you can't take any more customers because it's a two hour wait then so be it but don't tell customers there's only going to be an hour and 15 minutes wait and then when we get there to pick up our pizza it's not ready but about to go in the oven. At least give me a courtesy call and save me a drive so I can continue hosting my party while I wait for the food to be ready!!! Unacceptable in my book. This is constantly a problem lately and I don't think I want that issue anymore. Thank you for all of your years mellow! It's been nice. Time to move on!!! read more

We arrived at the unsuspecting strip plaza, walked in to what was just one well lit, cozy strip in the plaza and were immediately greeted by Robby, the owner, who asked us if it was our first time in. We let him know that it was, and he proceeded to educate us on everything they have to offer, from their bar, their sandwiches, pizzas, salads, pastas, grocery and so on... the meatball sandwich was calling my name, along with their pizzas and their pastas - so many choices! I did land on the meatball sandwich and got a bag of chips and a glass of wine while my friend got the Italian salad and a coke. For note, this ran us about $45. It was well worth it. The meatball sandwich was 10" and was stuffed with fully ground beef meatballs, seasoned well and very cheesy - so good. I tasted the salad and it was great as well, with plenty of parmesan cheese to cover up the taste of leaves that I was consuming (I'm not a vegetables guy still). While we were dining at the bar, Robby took a bit more time to tell us how the store came to be, being named after his grandmother who, though she wasn't around to see what he had started, would no doubt be very proud as his/his employee service was excellent and the food was no different. At the end of our experience, Robby took our payment and we explored the store a bit. Robby was kind enough to offer me two of their mini cannolis and my friend a scoop of their salted caramel gelato on the house as a way of saying thank you for coming in; again, EXCELLENT service. Since leaving there yesterday, I have recommended the place to 7 people and will continue recommending it to more people due to their great value, service and delicious food. Is it more expensive than grabbing pizza or subs from a chain? Absolutely. But the quality, authenticity, and overall experience make it worth it. We don't think of Josephine's as an everyday stop--we think of it as our go-to place for special occasions, family gatherings, or anytime we want to treat ourselves to food that genuinely reminds us of Italy. She then motioned for my chicken salad container, saying she needed it. I placed it on the scale and set my other items on the counter. The cashier then asked, "Are you okay?" I simply shook my head because, honestly, I wasn't. Instead of recognizing why I was frustrated, she continued talking, making comments, and escalating the interaction rather than simply ringing me up. At that point, I asked, "Do you want to argue? Do you want me to go back and forth with you?" I then asked who the manager was. She pointed to a woman beside her, who identified herself as the owner. I asked if she could ring me up instead. Even then, the cashier continued making comments. It was only after she continued engaging me that my voice became louder in response. Rather than addressing the repeated comments from her employee or asking what had happened, the owner immediately said, "Do not raise your voice at my employee." That response was disappointing. There was no concern for the customer experience, no apology for repeatedly being skipped in line, and no attempt to resolve the situation. There was also no acknowledgment that the interaction had been escalated by the cashier's continued remarks before I ever raised my voice. The irony is that I have spent a significant amount of money catering from Frankie's Deli over the years because my customers love the food. Good food will bring people in once. Great customer service keeps them coming back. Sadly, this experience ended that relationship for me. There are plenty of places with great food, but respect and customer service matter just as much. One final thought: this is Florida not NY. Hospitality goes a long way. The aggressive, dismissive attitude I experienced isn't what I expect when supporting a local business. I won't be back.

I'm a big fan of mellow mushroom and everytime I go to Brandon to visit my girlfriend, that is our first restaurant of choice. I had an unpleasant visit Saturday night that I hope they will address. First, we were seated outside as we asked. But then no one came to take a drink order or greet us at all. After about 10 minutes of waiting, we called the restaurant to advise that we were outside waiting to be greeted. Dalton immediately came out to take our drink order and apologized. We had no drink menus so nothing to really go on. We ordered a beer and then I saw a drink menu a few tables down. I saw mojitos on there (dragonberry) and when Dalton came back, he said he was not a big fan of most of the drinks on that menu. Didn't tell us of any specials for food or drinks. Apparently upselling isn't a priority at Mellow Mushroom but it would have been nice for him to be proud of his menu (he dissed some of the food items as well). I ordered a dragonberry mojito and it seemed someone forgot to put in the flavoring. It didn't even taste like a regular mojito, just vodka, club soda, a lime and a few mint leaves. I ordered the Capri Salad and mushroom soup (figured it would be a signature item as it IS the name of the restaurant). The soup was warm and lumpy and not what I remembered it being. So I politely sent it back. After dinner, we ordered dessert, the cinnamon pretzel - it was even less desirable than the soup. So I sent that back and told him not to worry about taking it off the bill because the description was accurate. (it was drizzled with honey and cinnamon yes, but no sugar, pure cinnamon! Yuk!) Each time we ordered something more, he would bring us back a new bill. Seemed as if we were being rushed even though he kept saying "no rush". I felt bad when he would come back to the table and we ordered yet another thing where he would have to redo the bill. I wanted to suggest to him to maybe NOT bring the bill until we were completely done. Ask if we would like an after dinner drink or dessert. But there was none of that whatsoever. We also struggled to find utensils and napkins - no one brought out new stuff throughout the meal. Save your silverware and salvage your napkin as long as you can or use your sleeve. We ordered the White Chocolate Russians for our dessert after sending back the pretzel and they were delicious! After everything was done, a gentleman came to our table with a large chocolate chip cookie and placed it on the pizza rack that was sitting on our table the whole time even though neither one of us ordered a pizza. He said hi very quietly and walked away. I guess that was to make up for the pretzel. We had one bite and though the presentation was great, big cookies with huge chocolate chunks, it also seemed tasteless. You can't screw up a chocolate chip cookie! Apparently, yes you can. After all the times we've gone there, we've always been a fan. My girlfriends dinner was fine and my Capri Salad was delicious. Not sure if there is new ownership, management or what. But there needs to be some serious training to their staff and management. We will probably choose another restaurant next time. read more

When our waitress couldn't be found after about 10 minutes of waiting for her to return to take our order we politely asked another waitress if they could get her for us and she was not happy to accommodate us. Our waitress finally returned and when my 73 year old mother in law asked a question about the menu our waitress seemed fairly dismissive to her. Again, what's the deal with the unfriendly wait staff?! Did I miss something where our tip was guaranteed so you don't have to be courteous?? We needed up ordering two large pizzas and a salad and that's where the rating gets 4 stars. The food was fabulous! This is my favorite pizza place, but it also has so much more to offer than simply pies. Last night I went there by myself, so I skipped the pizza menu. Instead, I ordered a custom-made salad. Before you say "I don't do salads," you gotta here me. You can order from dozens of unique ingredients that give you plenty of protein--or anything else you want. I had bacon and two kinds of cheese. But I also added cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, and several other things I've already forgotten. Service is always excellent, and last night was no exception. I've been to several of them. I thought them OK for pizza but the store in Wesley chapel. Seemed to lack in courtesy. Our waitress seemed to be dismissive although when asked to see the manager, she hid for fear of reprisal. After having been repeatedly & intentionally disregarded ,the manager after having been informed, offered to comp the bill & sent us coupons .by this time the damage had been done prompting me to put the on my no fly zone. Now that was some good pizza. I had to order a half and half specialty pie because I couldn't desire on one. Glad I went that route because I was right. Both halves we equally great and I got to try them both. A friend took me here about three years ago, and I just happen to be in the area and remembered the place. This is my first visit to Mellow Mushroom . While I can't stand mushrooms the pizza is excellent. Friendly staff and a huge beer list. The server was very helpful helping me navigate the non mushroom part of the menu. And our main course, our pepperoni pizza that we asked to be baked crispy absolutely sucked. Our pizza definitely was not crispy and also did not have any flavor. This is definitely not the Villa Rina Pizza we have been visiting for years. The original owner would be very disappointed. We probably won't return to Villa Rina's any time soon.
