The manager said "there is nothing I can do" - and the lady outside says that all of the cooks were just hired (apparently to explain delay). This chain has been one of my favorites for more almost two decades. If you're looking for a more bready crust than New York style, MM's flavored crusts can't be beat. I do love to eat Pizza and love the fact that you can get beer here and it is a sit down restaurant vs. most pizza chains that are take out. However, the Pizza is decent and I actually prefer Hungry Howey's or Papa Johns. They do have gluten free pizza which is a major plus for one of my kids, so if this is important to you then give it a try. read more

This is our second visit to this location. The service was excellent on both visits and we appreciate the decent beer offerings and lively surroundings. On our first visit, we shared the Mighty Meaty pizza and on our second visit, we shared a Caesar salad - which had the perfect amount of dressing, my sweetheart had a House Special pizza, which he devoured and I ordered a House calzone with added sausage and pepperoni. The fillings in the calzone were delish, but the calzone crust itself was a very light colour and doughy, as if it were under baked. I brought the calzone home and just reheated it in the convection oven for lunch. The crust browned nicely and was a bit more tasty, but leads me to believe the original dough was not risen properly. We came back for another round after a positive first experience, We grabbed a table by the bar, which is first come, and gosh: our food was taking forever (like an hour)! We were enjoying our evening together and didn't get too worked up or say anything. Finally, the staff came over and apologized and said it would be out soon. The manager personally came out to apologize and talk to us and took care of our meal. I was very impressed with the customer service and will continue to give them our business. No one is perfect all the time, but when a business has good customer service, I'm happy to be a repeat offender. read more

Let me start with this is one of my favorite pizzas here in North Carolina normally but I ordered delivery of a large pizza, medium pizza and 1/2 gallon of unsweetened ice tea for a total of $65. It was supposed to be delivered by 810 but the driver decided to wait for another order to get ready and didn't get to me until 8:50. By the time the pizza got to me it was literally cold. When I called to complain they knew the driver was waiting for another order and she couldn't do anything for me but said she would have the manager call me. That call never came and I'm now out $65 for a bad meal!!! Very disappointing and probably won't go back after the poor customer service. Inconsistent! I have been eating at this restaurant once a week for several weeks. i always get a thin crust Holy Shitake. Sometimes it is great, but sometimes not. One time it was so overcooked my server recommended sending it back. Today I would have sent it back if I hadn't had an appointment to keep. On three separate occasions I have had to wait for a pickup order while watching servers and several back-of-house employees chat right in front of me. It's your standard Mellow Mushroom. I'd give it four stars, but we often get burnt pizza at this location. We generally enjoy many items, such as pizzas (including gluten free), salads, apps, etc. The cocktail menu could be more inventive, and the bartenders could be more willing to make adjustments when asked. The wait staff is usually friendly and quick. The eclectic decor is humorous and a bit wacky giving it the Mellow Mushroom vibe. Oddly, it's a family friendly place...with a theme that wouldn't normally be considered family friendly if you catch my drift. Incorrigible Service. We placed the order at 5:45 and were informed that the pizza would be ready in 45 minutes. It is 8:15 pm and no sign of food. It is COVID-19 time and my daughter has been waiting outside for close to two hours. They will not pick up the phone either. Their reasoning for the delay - "we got a huge backlog". They knew their orders on hand at 5:45 when we placed it. 3 hours delay is unfathomable. Pretty sure when we get the Pizza it is going to be awful and cold. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

Wow, so disappointing. Place was busy, but by no means crazy . We were seated and after ordering our server informed us the kitchen was running 35 minutes for pizza. Maybe he should have mentioned that before we ordered in case we were pressed for time ? A full 57 minutes later , our food arrived . Of course two of the orders were wrong, but who had time to wait for what we ordered ? If you can't get it right in 57 minutes , you don't get 90 minutes to try again . During our 1 hour wait we had to practically tap our server in the shoulder to ask for drink refills . Most places go out of their way to make you happy when you wait an hour for pizza, not here . After another15 minutes waiting for our server to take my credit card we finally escaped. Poor experience all around, owner / operator was in the dining room the whole time we were there, never approached us . I think this place knows they have the market cornered here and have stopped trying . As long as people line up and wait, why bother trying . I've now visited the new Cary Mellow Mushroom three times and haven't been disappointed once. The pizza is delicious. Also try the Tortilla Soup. Yummy! What has really blown me away is the consistently awesome service and highly visible manager (maybe owner?) every time I've been there. I went with a friend last weekend and we were there forever, catching up and enjoying our pizza. Our server was so patient and never rushed us at all. 99% of servers would have tried to drop off the bill thirty minutes into our meal as a not-so-subtle hint or just a desire to wrap things up on their end. I was incredibly impressed by the professionalism and understanding of our server. Again, every time we have been, we've had really great service. read more

Having been going to Mellow Mushroom for years. We have eating at the one in Durham by the ball park and on Peace St but the one in Cary is by far our favorite. The staff is always great. The kids menu offers a great selection for all ages. The beer selection is great and there are plenty of strategically TVs for watching the game. As always the pizza is great. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE! Give them a few months until they work out the kinks. Service and food are a complete mess. They might be ready in December if they are still around. I should first say - I'm pretty forgiving with restaurants. It's a hard business. It's hard work. I get it. I usually cut places some slack. So I've been to both the MM off Glenwood in Raleigh, and the one in Durham at the ATC. Both great. Love the funky vibe, servers are very nice, awesome food. What is wrong with the Cary one? Everything. To start off with, came in and asked for outside seating - were told by the 3 vacant/clueless looking high school girls the wait was 15 mins. Grabbed a buzzer and went outside - there were 6 empty tables! No surprise - buzzer rings in 3 minutes. We come in, she asks if I'm someone else - then asks again where we wanted to sit. Huh? I just gave you the buzzer, look at the number and look on the list. Should be very simple. We're seated and wait for 10 minutes to get served. Strange because there are servers ALL OVER the place. I have no clue what they are doing. They look active, but nothing seems to be happening. After we order, my soup comes and it's cold. Then my pizza arrives and (as someone else said) it's a pile of toppings in the middle with 3 inches of crust. No kidding. Have the cooks never actually eaten a pizza or is this a new style I don't know about. By the way, our actual server - some guy - was VERY good, just slow. Around the end of the meal, a woman comes by introduces herself as the manager and asks how everything is. I'm looking at a table full of dirty dishes and she is fakely smiling - no attempt to pick anything up. I say "well, my wife needs a pizza box". She acts like it's *beneath her*. Five minutes later walks behind my wife and puts a too small box on the wall beside our table without a single word. (Again, not sure did I offend her by asking her to do something other than just chat up the customers??). Luckily our server saves the day again and offers a larger box :) Final straw: two personal pizzas, soup and a beer with tip $48. WTF? I should also say - if you are looking for the typical cool hip Mellow Mushroom, it's worth the drive downtown. The Cary one is typically bland, boring, strip mall "safe" (and I live in Cary, so I'm used to this - I wasn't expecting any better, and it met my expectations). My advice to the owner: seriously clean house with the kids that stare off into the distance, the "manager" that doesn't know what service means, and whip the kitchen into order. My advice to potential visitors: Do yourself a favor and go get a pizza at Biaggi's up the street. Much better service, much better food, and less money! Don't order from these guys EVER. I was given the wrong pizza with an ingredient that I am highly allergic to - Mushrooms. I called to let them know that they gave me the wrong pizza after multiple holds and then being hung up on three times- the phone started going straight to voicemails which you could not leave a message. Mellow Mushroom has redeemed themselves. After seeing this post and after writing to them I actually got a call from the store manager, Noah. He was apologetic and invited me in to "make it right". I went with friends, had a great lunch and really good service from Brian. Noah stopped by the table and apologized again for the not so great experiences and wanted to make sure we were having a good time and let us know that he has spoken with the staff. The Pizza here is good, but a little bit too expensive for what you get. The quality and service is also inconsistent. Sometimes they forget a topping, sometimes they are stingy with toppings, and once we got a soggy Pizza. At times the employees have reacted to these issues with indifference rather than being proactive about resolving the situation. For example, one time our Mellowteranean Pizza arrived without the Tzatziki sauce. When asked about it the person shrugged their shoulders and stated "We ran out of it and don't know when we'll be making more because we don't have a spare person to make it" and nothing beyond that. Nice list of draft beers made for a tough choice in deciding which pint would accompany dinner -- a good problem to have. The house salad (with house dressing) was fine, a standard blend of lettuce with tomato and mushrooms. We ordered a sausage/pepperoni pizza as well as a white pizza -- wanted to sample a cross-section of their pies. The former pizza featured a nice tomato sauce and good toppings, a very good pie. The latter pizza was a specialty pizza, no tomato sauce (as expected), but not terribly memorable, a bit bland actually. Both pizzas were topped with parm, a nice touch...but the crust had a buttery taste (like buttered popcorn, if that's your thing, then you will love it) and were quite thick (therefore very filling). Was feeling lazy today and wanted to stay in with a nice hot pizza. So I decided to order the best pizza in town though Postmates (only option so far to get delivery from Mellow Mushroom). Received a notification in about 20 minutes saying the driver was on the way to the restaurant to pick up my order. Sweet, awesome my fantasy night was all coming together! Or so I thought... Nearly an hour later I check the Postmates app and the driver is on the other side of town. I send a message to the driver asking if everything's okay. Received my worst fear, Hey, sorry don't feel like delivering and I don't know how to cancel on my end! I was mortified to say the least. My romantic evening with a fresh hot medium cheese pizza was falling apart before my very eyes!!! I relaxed and composed my self I was not going to let this ruin my fantasy evening! I rang up Postmates support and they kindly provided my with a new driver! Finally back on track!! But my series or unfortunate events had just begun... 10 minutes later I receive the foretold notification that my driver was arriving my beloved medium cheese!! Another 5 minutes go by with no word. Then finally receive a notification that my pizza had been delivered. Confusion ran over me!? Had I gotten my pizza and scarfed it down in a rage of passion and blacked out forgetting the entire affair? I quickly went out side to see if I was mistaken. No driver and more disheartening no pizza. I phoned the restaurant unable to wait any longer to place a new order for pickup. I dashed over to the restaurant. And the staff at the Cart Mellow Mushroom were amazing and incredibly helpful. They paid for the pizza and a beer while I waited for a new pie to come out of the oven. Everyone was super friendly! We came here for free trivia night on Wednesday and had a great time. The trivia was very challenging but we did win 3rd place. The bartender was excellent and took care of many tables with ease. The only reason I am marking them down a star is because their pizza was NOT AT ALL good. It was thin crust and the sauce tasted cheap and spicy. My spinach artichoke dip was awesome. I'm so glad Mellow Mushroom came to Cary. I love the Raleigh location with the fun plastic mushrooms, and the colorful outdoor seating, but this location is convenient for me. They don't have the crazy plastic mushrooms here, but the pizza is just as good. This new location has a huge outdoor seating patio, and is even bigger inside. The pizza pies are definitely some of the best in the area. I really love their house pizza and the magical mystery tour pies. A terrific place to gather a large group or the whole fam. The pizza was average at best. Not nearly enough sauce. Pizza without sauce is grilled cheese. Very doughy and while I liked the topping selection, it wasn't particularly flavorful.
