The Good & The Bad Honestly, I wanted to give this place four stars, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Got a white pie, maybe 18" basil olives and meatballs Also got 3 large meatballs on the side And a woodford old fashioned The pie was genuinely good. Was it worth $90? Maybe... The only real complaint about the food is it wasn't cut cleanly to the crust. The meatballs were also above average; flavorful throughout. I ate just 2 slices (so far) But I cannot in good conscience recommend for anyone to come here based on my experience. Here's the part that's indefensible. I asked if outdoor seating was open and was told to sit anywhere outside and someone would serve me. After five minutes alone out there, I went back in, and the hostess again assured me someone was coming. Nobody did. I finally hunted down a waitress who didn't know if outdoor seating was even open -- she checked, came back, and told me I'd have to sit inside. Seating a guest is the most basic function of a restaurant, and I was told three different things by three different people. I ended up at the bar, which wasn't gross, but wasn't clean either. Small menu, long waits, and at $90 for one person you expect something closer to a fine experience -- not a rowdy pub with poor service. And that falls on management, not the staff. read more

Di Fara is hands down the best pizza in town and as good as pizza in NYC. We had a server named Barbara the last time we were here during the day who was great, friendly and gave a definite NY authenticity to the experience. I really like their meatballs. Definitely ask the price of a side of marinara before you order it. It's good but expensive. Service is inconsistent. Other times we've been here we had servers that seemed to have no interest in being there. I don't know if this is still the case, but if you order a slice to go, they don't let you sit outside and eat it at one of their tables, even if they're not crowded. For a while they had some cheesy (no pun intended) hand written signs telling you not to sit at the tables. It said outside seating is for customers only or something like that. And it was unclear that meant outside tables are for full service dining only. I can see if people were waiting to be seated or you were trying to eat food from another restaurant there. It seemed weird to get chased away for being their customer. If you're getting a slice to go you hopefully would be there 15-20 minutes at most. It was so off-putting I have to include it in the review even though it happened a while ago. Just set your expectations...pizza is 5 stars, service is 3-4 stars, cost 3 stars. read more

I've been hearing rumblings about this place for some time... finally had a chance to try it. We ordered it for delivery as we were down the street at South Line Brewery (which they deliver free to). The pizza itself was BOMB! Wow tons of flavor and not heavy on dough or anything, just a solid pie. The only knock, you'll be dropping some serious lira for these pies. The parking lot gets pretty crowded on the weekend but there's a pretty big parking garage right around the corner that has ample parking with a good amount of electric chargers. The restaurant has a lot of seating both inside and outside so we got seated immediately. The menu was a little confusing. For some reason unrelated pizzas are grouped together. For example I ordered a Chaos pizza and the menu says "Square with Pepperoni, Chaos" but the Chaos isn't a square pizza. The pizza taste was just ok. It didn't have a lot of flavor and the crust was extremely hard which I don't personally like for pizzas. The pizza definitely needed Parmesan and red chili flakes but our server forgot to bring it out for us so we had to wait a while until we eventually flagged a different server read more

I finally made my way to Di Fara Pizza. It is located in Downtown Cary and has a shared parking lot with other nearby businesses. The restaurant has two entrances: one for takeout and one for the restaurant. Although I was told it doesn't matter which door you use. The restaurant has many TVs around the walls; most are showing sports, but one is on the Bob Ross channel, so I sat near that tv. There are low-top tables, high-tops and bar seating. In better weather, there is an outside patio. Music is playing in the background. I ordered a white pizza. I was not expecting it to be as large as it was. I did want some leftovers, and the pizza didn't fit inside the box, so the pieces had to be rotated to get it all in. I am not sure how they get it in the box with an order to go. The pizza exceeded my expectations with the flavors coming together with the fresh ingredients. It had olive oil, garlic, ricotta, fresh mozzarella, and Parmesan. Di Fara has a water machine to replicate New York City water. The machine makes sure the characteristics are similar to those of the minerals and the softness of NYC water. This makes the pizza unique, making the crust very close to New York pizza. The service was very friendly and attentive. I brought my cousin here who was visiting from Arizona. I myself am visiting from Richmond. I come down often and have been wanting to try Di Fara Pizza Tavern for awhile and am so happy I did. Great, clean atmosphere with good music playing in the background. Excellent service--so friendly, and patient too as they explained the differences between different pies. We both elected gor the square pizza (Detroit style) and got Pepporoni (it came with fresh basil leaves too!). In a word, perfect! I haven't had pizza this good since I moved away from Austin, TX where we had more choices than just NY style or some flatbread like I'm stuck with in Richmond. I won't get pizza anywhere else now. Good beer seletion on draft too, as well as a full bar. Cant wait to try the patio outside when things warm up. 5 stars! read more

Meh... Been on my list for a while to try but pretty underwhelmed. Menu looks great, prices are too steep, and pizza was "just ok". It's super thin so prepare to want more, but flavor was decent, not amazing. End of day, not good enough for me to justify the price when there are better options but it's also not bad...hence the 3 Stars. Lastly, and quite annoying (IMHO)... They're a blur of aprons, order tickets, and barely-contained chaos, fueled by espresso shots and sheer willpower. They refill your drinks like heroes, deliver your starters... and then vanish into the great pizza void. The main event? NEVER ARRIVES! We came in with low expectations and still left disappointed. Ordered their self acclaimed one-size pizza, which apparently exists only in theory. Was quoted 45 minutes. Then 60. Then NOTHING but silence. Staff rotated like a Broadway cast on opening night, each one confidently guessing a new wait time with the enthusiasm of someone who clearly knows it's never coming. Over an hour later, we left with no pizza, drowning in broken promises, and a newfound respect for vending machines. Seating is a joke! Service is a social experiment! Highly recommend this place if you are looking for some delicious NY pizza. Was excited to see they opened a place in NC as Portnoy gave them an amazing review for their Brooklyn location. Went here this past Sunday afternoon on recent visit to NC State and it did not disappoint. The square pizza was delicious and highly recommend it! The DiFara special was really good just the first bite was a little "flop jallop" as Krispy Pizza would say, but after that it was delicious! Crust, sauce, fresh basil and mozzarella all top Notch! Definitely made me feel like I was back in NY! Great drinks, nice outdoor patio , bar and inside all nice! Service was great, prompt, friendly and we didn't experience any of the delays like some prior reviews. Will be back for sure next visit. read more

Update 9/27: We've come back twice since my original review, and unfortunately, both visits have been a struggle. Last year, we came on a Saturday night and it took over 1.5 hours just to get our two pizzas. We had children with us, and they got so hungry we nearly left. We decided to give it another try tonight, but the experience wasn't much better. Our waiter mistakenly put in an order for a single square slice instead of the square pie we requested. Thankfully, our children's pizza order was correct and came out in about 30-45 minutes. The slice was comped, and they assured us the pie would be rushed. However, even after another 45 minutes of waiting and being repeatedly told "just 5 more minutes" the pizza still never came. At that point, after a total of 1.5 hours, we asked to cancel the order and had to leave hungry. Our kids at least got to eat, which was the most important part, but for us, it's simply too much of a hassle to come back. read more

We were able to enjoy their outside patio area where they have plenty of picnic tables and heaters for chilly nights. They also had TVs outside which was an added bonus. we went as a family to Di Fara in Cary during the Xmas break. Was busy but we made a reservation in the heated igloo tent in their outdoor area, which we paid extra for. Staffers are friendly. Pizza's understandably take a while (maybe 20 mins). We got a white pie (circular) and a sicilian sqaure pie. The white was good, decent undercarriage, thin crust. The sicilian was not so great, soggy and inconsistent depending on if you got an end or middle. Apps are good - the garlic knots and meatballs Yes they are using the Di Fara Midwood name. This place is busy! But the greeting was friendly and helpful and the service was terrific. They feature Brooklyn-style thin crust pizza. Dine in, have a drink, or pizza to go is available. It has a modern tavern feel. The foundation of a great pizza is the crust, which was perfect. Cracker thin not over or undercooked. I had cheese and pepperoni pizza having a mild sauce and's cup-and-char pepperoni. For some reason my slice was salty but still very good. My family decided to get some lunch at Di Fara Pizza Tavern and it was absolutely wonderful. I do not get down to downtown Cary much while visiting my father, so this was definitely a treat. Di Fara Pizza Tavern is a wonderful pizza place that is upscale and a very nice bar with TV's all over the place so you can watch a sports event. The ambiance is up to par and very much modern and attractive looking. Our server was Ok , and did give us decent service, but was gone the majority of the time, so we did not get refills on our waters and iced tea. She did not give us enough napkins for the food we ordered, so we had to suffer with sticky fingers for the majority of the time, but eventually we did get more napkins from the server after waiting about 15-20 minutes. Our family ordered the meatballs, garlic knots, and a large pepperoni, mushroom pizza. Everything was superb and high quality!! The meatballs tasted amazing and could tell they were homemade, because they were delicious and had the right amount of spices and flavors combined. The sauce was incredible with the meatballs and the garlic knots. The garlic knots were probably the best garlic knots I have had in quite a while. The texture of the garlic knots was just perfect and crispy. The taste blew me away and was a true party in my mouth. They had just the perfect amount of garlic on each knot. The pizza was wonderful and truly marvelous! The sauce on the pizza was flavorful and tasted amazing. The combination of toppings on the pizza made the pizza more excellent and wonderful to eat. The pizza was so good and it came so fast that I forgot to take a picture of it . The igloo was a different experience. Very cool. And our server was awesome. She checked in on us regularly which was nice since we were outside. Well, I had to edit this review. It's seems we put a $15 non refundable deposit for the igloo. But, they didn't even take the $15 off our final bill. I get it if you didn't show and they kept the $15. And because we were in the igloo we had an automatic 20% gratuity. Amazing pizza in the downtown Cary area! We got here early on a weekend night and there was a small wait to eat inside, but no wait for outside. Bar seating inside is first come, first served. We waited about 10 minutes until a table was ready inside. My husband and I ordered a chaos pizza with garlic knots. The restaurant boasts that it's New York style pizza and I will say it tastes authentic. The whole meal was delicious and we had leftovers for another meal for us both. Service was kind and quick. The place is super casual and can get busy, so plan accordingly if you have plans post-eating. There is not a lot of parking in front of the restaurant, so you may need to look elsewhere if it's super busy. read more

We eat a lot of pizza and this is the best in Cary. The classic is amazing and dot sleep on the garlic knots. A little pricy for pizza but worth every dollar. We recently visited Di Fara with our three young kids and had one of the least welcoming dining experiences we've ever encountered. We ordered two pizzas to go (and I even tipped 15% on the to go order) thinking we'd enjoy them at Cary Park. While waiting, I politely asked if we could sit at one of their many outdoor tables (or even indoors) since the kids were getting hungry and my hands were full. Instead of any understanding, we were met with condescension. A staff member came over and tersely said, "You ordered to go -- you need to go." I explained that we were simply waiting for my spouse, who was parking, and that we would absolutely leave after eating. Their response was still inflexible and dismissive. We grabbed our pizzas to leave, only to have a manager come out and repeat the same thing -- again, with no empathy or flexibility. I told her we understood the policy but didn't appreciate being repeatedly harassed while juggling hungry kids. Her tone was rude, and she made it clear she didn't care about losing our business. Bottom line: this is not a family-friendly restaurant. The staff was unnecessarily rigid, unkind, and unwelcoming. If you have kids or simply value good customer service, spend your money at a place that treats its patrons with basic courtesy and respect. read more

So to be completely transparent we lived in NY and CT so we have been around some pretty good pizza. We have been to the Brooklyn location more than once and absolutely loved it. This was our second visit to Di Fara in Cary. The first time we had several traditional pies and enjoyed it very much. So much so that I declared it the best pizza we've tried in the South. They have these cool pods for outdoor dining in the winter, lots of TVs for sports and a full bar. This visit was also enjoyable with a couple of exceptions. We got the white pizza and although tasty it was not crispy enough. In fact several of the slices were downright floppy. I will take the blame for that as we should have asked for it well done. With all that said the taste was excellent and the only thing missing was a consistent crisp. The unfortunate part of the visit was the person behind the bar. I spoke to him as I looked over the tap beer selection and he barely acknowledged my existence. Our wait person who did an outstanding job, took our drink order and the "bar person" dropped them off at our table without a word or a smile. I don't think I'm a needy diner but a smile or a "hey there" would have gone a long way. The long and the short of it, good pizza, ask for it crispy. Unlike its Avenue J in Brooklyn namesake, this location of Di Fara's in Cary is not a hole in the wall pizzeria. It's a nice tavern restaurant that offers seating at the bar, in the dining area and outside in igloos for the winter. Now for the pizza. We finally found the NY / Brooklyn style pizza here in NC that we have been searching for, for YEARS!! We have found some okay pizza but this is almost like the pizza at the original location in Brooklyn that I've been to quite a number of times. We went with the Chaos pie and a Sicilian slice that we spit. From the crust, to the sauce, to the cheese and toppings, it's was great!! The pizza was cooked perfectly and was delicious. They only offer four pie types,calzone, garlic knots and meatballs on the menu. Which is fine. Pizza should be kept simple in my opinion. The service though was slow. Granted they were busy. We waited forty-five minutes for a table while we sat at the bar. It took another forty-five minutes for the pizza to come out after ordering. From what I saw it was non stop in that kitchen and it was a Friday night so that's understandable. Parking here is rough though. The restaurant is in a small strip mall in the downtown area and the street abuts the rail line so on street parking can be difficult.
