Being from a small Ohio town that has many excellent mom and pop type pizza joints, I am very picky about my pizza. Back there, we almost never eat pizza from chain restaurants. Cuz we don't have to! That said, I've fallen in love with Mellow Mushroom's Holy Shiitake pizza. It. Is. Amazing. Loaded with three different types of mushrooms, garlic, and caramelized onions, it melts in your mouth. It's also drizzled with a creamy aioli sauce. So good I haven't tried any of their other pies! read more

My wife and I went to the mellow mushroom and the food and service was great as usual. A few days later my wife couldn't find her glasses. After the process of elimination we thought we may have left them at MM. So we called and Jeremy, who I think was a manager, had them put away and was waiting for us to call and claim them even though it had been several days. Maybe I'm a pizza purist... but when the crust is spongy and chewy and basically undercooked- it's not good pizza. Don;t shoot me- I have been 3 different times- Chapel Hill and 2x in Cary. I have ordered 3 different things. The first time we got this crazy mushroom pizza that had this over the top cream sauce on it. It was drinking egg nog on a hot day - it was heavy and not very good. Next time- we figured we'd construct our stand by- Mushroom and onion- spongy dough, uninspired sauce, overall undercooked as the first one was. Next time- Calzones. Undercooked and very little taste. Why do we keep torturing ourselves? It's a mile from home and my 8.5 year old son loves pizza. I really want to like it- they have a cool atmosphere, good beer selection and I do love their side salads as simple as that is. But the kicker- and reason we will not be back- last time we went, my son gave the pizza a thumbs down too. On to try a new place. Primos is still tops- but last few times not as good (new owners). Still searching for true crisp crust NY pizza. read more

Gross. Worst vegan pizza ever. And salad too. Seems like they used absolutely NO herbs, seasonings, or spices.

Been ordering take-out since they opened this Mellow Mushroom in Cary, NC. No complaints about the food, just about the beards on all of the pizza maker's that you can see from the counter. Gross. And of course the prices are outlandish, even for a family of four, (which is why we can only order on special occasions) but that's Mellow Mushroom. read more

Drive to Raleigh or Durham, the total time to get served will be less than this place. Can't really comment about the pizza because we never got ours after waiting close to one hour! Waiter, when he showed up (twice) kept saying your food will be right out. Finally the "manager" came over and said there was a mix up in the kitchen and it would be another 4 to 5 minutes. 15 minutes later the "manager stops us as we are walking out and offers to box up our pizzas which still haven't arrived yet! Finally, he offers a gift card thinking we might come back? If you don't want to drive to Raleigh or wait an hour for your order, try Rodino's up the street. read more

Been here a few times and frankly don't understand the "cult-like" following this place seems to have. The pizza is OK, but a little pricey and nothing special. I do like the atmosphere and the beer selection is excellent. Recently when they messed up my carry-out order the manager gave me a complimentary beer while I was waiting for them to fix my order. This is a great place and my daughters and I go all the time for Daddy-Daughter time out for Mom. We love the Thai chicken wings and the great selection of Pizzas. The salads are wonderful as well and are supper fresh. The service is fast and friendly. During the weekdays it can start getting crowded close to 6 pm and you may have to wait to get in. Oh, Mellow Mushroom...I wanted so much to like you. I chose the Cary location as my birthday dinner spot. My husband and I split a small order of pretzels to start. They were big and pleasing to the eye, but meh. The beer cheese sauce we ordered to go with them was tastier than the pretzels themselves. We then split a small Philosopher's Pie, which was also nice to look at but completely lacking in flavor. The "steak" tasted like Steakums, the artichokes consisted of about 3 sad little pieces for the whole pie, and it was bland as all get-out. I had to put red pepper flakes and some of the red sauce that came with the pretzels on it just to make it edible. Also, we sat at the bar, and the bartenders were borderline couldn't-care-less. The one who initially waited on us was more interested in ending his shift and having a beer with the girl across from us than he was in actually listening to what we were ordering. You know who someone is looking at you, wide-eyed even, but they're not actually LOOKING at you? Yeah, that. Not a do-over, sorry. :( read more

Had a very non-MM experience on March 1. Ordered a beer which was flat and skunky when it hit the table. I told the waitress, and she asked what I would like instead, so I ordered a different brew. The pretzels were small and overcooked. The pizza was barely warm when it arrived. And the whole of lunch we kept seeing way too much of the waiter who was apparently unable to find jeans that fit as they were around his thighs, thus exposing his lemon yellow underwear for all to see. The icing on the cake was getting the bill and finding out I had the pleasure of paying for the skunky beer in addition to the one I drank! Seriously? I do not recommend eating at this location until they get their ducks back in a row. read more

This is one of my favorite chain pizza restaurants and my boyfriend and I tried this location for the first time about a week ago. Not only was the food delicious as usual, but the service was fantastic. Everyone who helped us - the waitress, the cook who brought out our food, and even the manager was very pleasant and seemed genuinely concerned with our dining experience. Not necessarily a bad pizza but with the new pizza places in Cary and surrounding area, I prefer to get my gluten free from some of these other places. For the money, The gluten free is better in the newest places in town. On a good note, its clean, and most of the staff are fairly polite and seem to care. read more

My husband and I have had pizza several times from here. Once eating in and the rest takeout. The pizza tastes great although definitely tastes fresher in house than for takeout. I'm not sure how that happens as I'm usually there to pick it up before they've even finished making it. The price is a little on the expensive side but I've realized since moving to NC that the better pizzas usually cost more. We've tried a couple of other places and they usually are very greasy or way too salty. read more

This location is great. Plenty of parking and seating. It has a separate bar area with no waiting, first come first serve. My visit was on Saturday, March 3rd..Acc Tourney time so of course the flat screen tv's that surround the place were in full effect with patrons eyes glued to them. As for the food, I totally enjoyed my choice . My sister and I shared an 18inch pizza, The Caesar" which is absolutely devine! It's a garlic-base pizza with grilled pesto chicken and topped with a Caesar salad and fresh sliced tomatoes...yum! We has slices left over to take home. I love Mellow Mushroom because their crust is one of kind made with white and wheat flour with a hint of sweetness..Rumor is that the sweetness is molasses which is quite alright with me. I also had a glass of Chardonnay ( I totally forgot the name ).. I know I will be back to this location. Also, don't forget to look up while you're sitting, there's something interesting up there..ha! read more

I went to Mellow Mushroom last night with a friend. We have been to the one on Peace Street many times but this was our first time visiting the one in Cary. The decor is really cool and it is way nicer looking than most Mellow Mushrooms. However, the service was really lousy last night. The waiter seemed nice enough but told us he had to leave right after we placed our order because he had a sick dog and another waiter was going to take over our table. It then took over an hour to get our salads (no pizza) and cheese bread. It was a weekday and not very crowded so I was surprised by how long it took. The food was decent but it would have been better if it came out 30 minutes after we ordered, not an hour. When we left the restaurant that night, our original waiter was still there. It left a bad taste in my mouth. The owner should consider hiring more mature waiters who do not play games with their customers. It was just plain rude. I will drive to Raleigh next time I want Mellow Mushroom. read more

My husband and I decided to try Mellow Mushroom again for the second time after our first not so impressive experience shortly after they opened and were less impressed than our first experience. We decided to try our own Sunday lunch/brunch today and started out with an Irish coffee and bloody Mary. The Irish coffee didn't even taste like it had any whiskey in it to later find out it had traces of Bailey's Irish Cream and the bloody Mary which came without the traditional celery stalk. The Enlightened Spinach Salad we shared was delightfully enjoyable, but was followed by a disappointing Kosmic Karma pizza which was prepared without the expected Roma tomatoes that we were looking forward to, substituted by the average sandwich tomato. The excuse was that they were "delivered the wrong tomatoes that morning". Needless to say, for a $47.00 tab which included the tip, we were quite disappointed. Not sure we will try it again. read more

So, I have had positive experiences at this MM location prior to today's experience, but this drops my 4 to a 1. Let me preface this by saying, it's not everyday a gluten-dairy free eater can find food at a resturant that suits them both by taste and cost...and I had found that here. But, Day Bar 1, you know who you are, (young, blonde female), you ruined that for me. We ordered a beer as we usually do and then an extra crispy gluten/dairy free (cheese-less) pizza. Not only did she bring it out with cheese, it didn't even look like the gf crust! THEN, after half-hardheartedly apologizing, she asked could we eat it!!!!!!! WTF! Of course we said no, and she had to put it back in...then guess what? It came back uncooked--pretty much. It was gf, and it was cheese-less, but there was no crispy, and definitely no xtra crispy. So, MM, learn this: If you mess up an order--fine, it happens (although your only job is to remember order), but to mess it up 2x because maybe you were rushing to get it served--NO, stop, pause, remember what the customer asked for...if you can remember the order of specificity, even better. Customers want what they want, and you did not deliver. That, Day Bar 1, is why you earned a $0 tip from me! ANd now, my only pizza/beer restaurant is no longer an option. THANKS! read more
