I have been to numerous Mellow Mushrooms well over twenty years. The Cary location is the most poorly run. We placed an online order for two pizza to be picked up at 8:20 pm. We almost walked out with no food at 9pm. The kitchen was a madhouse, another customer was yelling at a manager while staff just stood around and did nothing. First time at this location. At first entrance, the hand sanitizer machine was empty. We was greeted and seated right away. There was hardly any customers in the establishment at the time. Our wait for our pizza was longer than I expected. Not sure what was going on. We weren't provided with any reason for the delay. The kids meal was brought to our table within expected and the kids was done eating before our pizza arrived. A bit disappointing and hard to enjoy when the kids are done and needing to be entertained. We asked for a box and left shortly thereafter. Probably will not be returning anytime soon. We visited with 20 people. Food came out at different times which I said was fine. It's hard to get a 20 top out at one time. My husband and I never got our food and everyone was completely finished and ready to pay. My pizza was burned and husband's calzone... raw in middle without ricotta. The manager comped the 2 meals but we couldnt even eat our food. We had to stop and get food on the way home. Service was great but not a good experience with food. read more

We arrived at mellow mushroom at 6pm. We ordered three pizzas, a salad a calzone and pretzel bites. One hour after we ordered, our pretzel bites arrived. Our food came out one item at a time. I completely finished my meal before the next pizza came out. The final pizza came out at 7:24. At this point we had been there an hour and 25 minutes with two small children. I am sorry I have to report a negative review but, customer service is so important to me. I place my order via doorDash the day before, I ordered a veggie calzone. They open at 11 o'clock on Sundays so my order was one of the first orders to be delivered. The Dasher got there early and have to wait on the order but as soon as it is was ready he came right away because I live five minutes down the road once I got my order, I opened the box and I noticed there were no Parmesan cheese on it. It wasn't Brown, no butter and it was cold, didn't have any sauce it was suppose to be a calzone. I called the location to let the manager know what happen, but every time I called there associate would put me on hold and no one never came to the phone. I called twice. I got in my car with the calzone drove five minutes down the road to show them what was delivered to me. The manager was Colleen, when I walk into the business I was still on hold. She was standing up on the phone and I told her I'm here to talk about my delivery. I showed her what I received. She apologize and said we're training new people she did make another calzone while I waited. She said she would issue a refund but it didn't happen, she wanted me to call DoorDash and request a refund. I told her that was unacceptable. It was their mistake and as a manager she should call DoorDash and make sure I get my refund. When I checked the refund there was only for $4.83, my order was $25, they were not busy Customer Service was bad. She walked away went to the back, I had to ask a associate to go get her so I could be issued my refund. It was a really really bad day thank you for listening. read more

We ordered a large vegan mushroom pizza, which was very good, but they made the wrong size, and ended up giving us an extra pie (small)- they did the right thing, no complaints there. Seemed kind of chaotic but it's possibly because we were with a big group. I didn't like that the server sounded annoyed when responding to my aunt who came later and was trying to order extra food for my cousin. We ordered three other pizzas and hot wings, but I wasn't impressed. I am going to try and keep this brief but good lord what an awful experience. I ordered online and the wait time was an hour and a half. I showed up in time and they were dumbfounded when I told them the name rick because they didn't have any order for rick. After 5 minutes of confusion and trying to locate my order, they found it after I gave them the confirmation code. The hostess looked at me like I was a complete blubbering oaf and said "oh, you meant Richard"... She then told me the pizza was too small so they were making an extra in a small size to compensate and it would take a few minutes. Understandable and about 10 minutes later my pizzas were ready and I was on my way home. I really wish that had been the end, but when opening the box it had literally no toppings EXCEPT the specific ones I had asked not to have put on the pizza. I called them back and they begrudgingly offered to make me a new pizza but I'd have to come back and pick it up. No offer for a refund or taking anything off the check, not even so much as an apology. Really disappointed and I'd honesty suggest avoiding this location. Yesterday, I had a Trophy Wife at the Mellow Mushroom - two of the best names you'll ever find in a beer and a restaurant. (I also had a Baby Maker at the MM on a previous visit - maybe the best beer name ever.) Anyway, I love the Mellow Mushroom. The pizza is great and everything about the menu is good. We went to Mellow Mushroom last Thursday 5/25, and when paying our bill, our server gave us the wrong credit card. No problem, we let the server know and she went and asked the other patron to swap our credit cards. We left the restaurant not thinking anything more about it. The next day, we see that our card was charged for 2 different amounts- one was our table and the other was another table's (most likely the other patron who had our card.) I immediately called the restaurant on Friday 5/26, and they said the manager would call me back that afternoon at 4pm. I waited until after 7pm, and still no call, so I called the restaurant again to speak to the manager. The manager told me that the server had informed her that she made a mistake and charged two tables to our card (but hadn't ever told us) and that the second charge would fall off by Wednesday. No apology. When I said that it concerned me that the server didn't mention this to us, the manager told me that this was a conversation that they would need to have with the server, but was never apologetic to us. The second charge still hadn't fallen off as of the following Saturday 6/3 (and actually increased due to the tip going through), so I had to call back again on Saturday and the manager finally offered to look into this in more detail. She just called me back after doing her research and shared that she will be refunding the additional charge... again, still no apology. We more than understand that mistakes happen and have worked in restaurants ourselves, so we were understanding when the server brought us the wrong credit card (we even laughed it off!) and were very nice each of the times that we had to call the manager. However, we are very disappointed with the manager's lack of apology, especially after we had to call so many times to even get her to look into the issue. read more

My boyfriend and I have been to this place 3x now and they never fail to give us the best! We definitely recommend the Mushroom and Buffalo pizzas as well as the Parmesan bites. The portions are reasonable as well as the prices. What we like about the pizza here is that they are so flavorful. If you love Parmesan cheese, they do too! This one is for the gluten free pizza, while I appreciate the option, it's extremely maddening when it's 3 dollars more and yet the toppings are so minimal, it was like eating a thin cracker with a tiny amount of melted cheese. I ordered the mushroom and barely even had 3. If you are going to charge me more I expect at LEAST the the same topping amounts on my cracker crust. Meanwhile, my family who ordered the pepperoni had a ton of sauce and cheese and meat. I paid close to 16 dollars for a tortilla sized crust, thickness like a cracker, and not even enough cheese and sauce to pass as a pizza. Currently eating while I write this because I'm still hungry. Next time I will bring my own outside food if my family chooses to go here again. Ordered pretzel bites with cheese dip (free with Yelp check-in) two medium pizzas and a meatball sub. 1)"Great White"- olive oil and garlic base with sun-dried roasted tomatoes, provolone, feta cheese, seasoned ricotta, fresh basil, mozzarella, roma tomatoes and onions 2)"Kosmic Karma"- red sauce with feta cheese, mozzarella, spinach, sun-dried roasted tomatoes and roma tomatoes. Finished with a pesto swirl. 3. Pretzel bites- piping hot and really good dipped in the cheesy sauce! The cosmic karma was by far my favorite pizza! The pesto sauce really kicks up the flavor and it had the perfect ratio of cheese to sauce. I can't comment on the meatball sub because I don't eat meat but the bread was toasted so it wasn't soggy and it looked pretty good. The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is because halfway through our meal our server ditched us and became the bartender inside. We found out when we went looking for him after awhile and found him behind the bar working there instead. We tracked someone else down to get his attention and then left our table and went inside to the bar to handle our check. That was not good. I just want to say- this place deserves some love. We're new to the area and have been here 4 times. Each time, we're greeted by friendly staff, sat quickly and the restaurant is very clean. The servers we've had are always attentive and pleasant and friendly to our five year old. We were in last week and had the Funky Q pizza, which was probably the best pizza we've had so far. The server brought refills before our drinks ran out and brought the ticket with the boxes so we could pay quickly. If you have never been to a Mellow Mushroom, go. Now. The pizza is delicious. A large is going to cost you 25 bucks. My favorite is the Holy Shiitake. The environment is funky. It isn't quite a Hard Rock Cafe but is a unique experience for sure. The staff at this location is friendly and happy. Expect to wait a good 20+min for your pizza bexause they do not make it until you order it. Ingredients are of a decent quality. I have been to most of their locations and this Cary location is one of the nicest. They also sell cool T-shirts and a few local brews. read more

It really was "A-OK," as the definition says. The menu has a lot of options, but not too many, and we appreciated the calorie information. Our server was very friendly, and even struck up a Star Trek conversation with my friend. It took a long time for our pizzas to come out, and they were fine. My friend really liked his mushroom pizza. My cheese with two toppings had a lot of red sauce on it, and it was hard to taste the carmelized onions. People must like it with a lot of sauce, but for my tastes it was way too much. I would definitely return, but with a few things to think about: ask for less sauce (I'm sure they would do that), skip the carmelized onions, and ask about the different types of crusts. Mellow Mushroom used to be one of our favorite pizza places. We would all be excited to head to Raleigh and get pizza. When Mellow opened in Cary, we were ecstatic ! Well......the Cary Mellow Mushroom has never really been able to compare to the one in Raleigh. The pizza is good. The crust is fresh made and also very good. But we feel like ......MEH !!! We came here late after my work day to try them for the first time in years. We aren't too excited because I remember not liking them much as a kid but man it was way better than I'd remembered! We ordered the cheesy garlic bread to start and it was tasty although the marinara sauce wasn't quite enough to get us through it. Also a bit sweeter than I like but that's just personal preference; my fiancé liked it a lot. The bread had a nice garlic flavor that wasn't overpowering and the cheese was delicious. Seasoning was on point. For entrées I ordered a small funky que pizza and my fiancé got the Philly cheesesteak calzone. The pizza was fanatic! I added ricotta to it and it was perfect. It wasn't too sweet and the dough was really really yummy. My fiance really enjoyed his calzone - it was huge! The service was good and we really enjoyed sitting in their outdoor area. Why does it keep erasing!? I swear I've done two reviews. I love this place!! They custom make me a vegan cheese pie with tempeh and pineapple. It is so good. The dough is amazing and they cook it up to perfection. I can always call in advance and pick it up. Today there was a 40min wait so I am glad I called while on the road. I have been a frequent patron of Mellow Mushroom Cary since they opened. The quality of the pizza continues to be good, however they are not good in keeping pickup times. I have placed several online orders over the past 3 months and each time, I have had to wait for my pizza. I understand it is a challenge in hiring and retention of employees, however knowing this, the pickup times should be adjusted to take this into account. If I am being asked to choose a pickup time, then it is not an unreasonable expectation that my order is ready at that time. I am not opposed to waiting 5-10 minutes, I am opposed to waiting 30 minutes for a pickup order. read more

Terrific service and yummy food! I came in last night for dinner with my friend, who had never been to Mellow (I'm a regular, but I've just never felt compelled to leave a review). Normally, we have a girl server, but we had a nice young man named Chris who was serving us. He was funny and extremely kind to both of us. He kept our drinks coming and gave us frequent updates about the status of our food. My friend has been going through some personal issues and this was the first time I'd see her smile in a while. It is hard to find the service we received without going to fine dining restaurants, and sometimes they still ignore you. The only downside is that Chris is a Tarheel and my friend and I are both Duke graduates :). I was very happy with my experience, and would highly recommend asking for Chris. read more

My husband and I have frequented Mellow Mushroom locations in different states/ cities we've live and the Cary location is not as good with the service and the quality of the food as others, especially for carry out. After yesterday, we might just have to check out one of the other locations in the area. It started with not getting the extra pepperoni on my husband's pizza, which Kyle did give a credit for, which is only right considering we didn't get what we paid for. After starting to eat, they just weren't good. Mine had enough garlic to kill a village of vampires and just was not edible after two slices. Now, the wings and pretzels were good! Times when we've dined it it was like a different restaurant- not sure why the big difference in quality?? read more
