We sat outside, which felt best because it was a little too noisy and busy inside. We ordered the Great White and added some meat to it. It had fresh ingredients, served hot, with a great flavor as we prefer pizzas that aren't the normal red sauce variety. Their pizzas are made to order which means you can customize the pizza down to the crust you want, which is nice. I am from Atlanta and grew up with MM pizza and remember when they were a small shop in Sandy Springs. I've been a loyal fan and have dined in the Franklin location for 20 years. I am unsure who owns this location but the quality has been on a slow decline for years. The crust has become thick and doughy and the meat is tasteless and cheap. The sausage is hard and full of grizzle. I think the store feels that they can get away with the inferior quality as it is in a tourist town and there is always a wait. If you visit a community supported store, I believe you will find the product to be night and day. I'm bummed that our hometown location has lost the traditional flavor. read more

We checked in at 6:30 and were told the wait would be and hour and because they were behind with the dough after we were seated it would be another hour to get our pizza. We drove 40 minutes to get here so we decided to wait. We sat at the table by the hostess stand to wait. While we waited we saw numerous empty table. We assumed maybe there was a staff shortage. Not sure that was the situation since 5-6 at a time were hanging out at the hostess stand talking and laughing. At 7:31 a text came through saying our table was ready. When we approached the stand, the hostess said "we texted you at 7:16, but we will still find a table for you." Unique atmosphere with yummy food. We got a medium pizza which was perfect for two people! They use the follow your heart vegan cheese which isn't our personal favorite but still good! We checked out this place Friday night and while we loved the vibe and the food sizes, there were a few cons worth mentioning. -the staff were inattentive. Our waiter was stretched thin and was forgetting food repeatedly. I saw this happening with his other tables too. When I couldn't get a refill, my mom brought my soda to the girl behind the counter who was buried in her phone. -we had two children with us and were put where I assume they put all families. In that room they had some sort of dateline special playing on the overhead tv where they were showing dead bodies in there underwear. My son had a lot of questions after that. First time coming here. Chicken wings were room temperature and were flavorless. Burger was so bland and dry, that after I got it (after waiting an hour) I took 2 bites and had to leave it. Not kidding when I say the worst burger I've had in my entire life. And I'm no spring chicken. The pizza was very, very middle of the road. Nothing special about it. FREEZING!!!!! Our server Dylan was awesome and I loved my Cobb salad but our whole group of 12 and the tables next to us could barely enjoy a meal it was so cold! We asked the management to turn the temperature up but they said they could not touch the thermostat. My choice is almost always one of the craft brews they keep on tap; they also have brews in bottles and cans. For the kids there's lemonade, milk, fruit punch, water. And then take a tantalizing look at the long, open window to the kitchen where you can watch the pizzaioli (pie makers) slapping out skins and spinning their magic in large circles above their heads (and hoping for no donut or hole in the dough). Smells: The aroma of fresh yeasty dough, a baked calzone with fresh veggies or savory sausage accompanied by MM's slightly tangy Mellow Red Sauce. The mix of aromatics in a whopping salad filled with just about any green ingredient you can name sometimes wafts by. Tastes, Textures, Flavors: Oh, where to begin? Order your pie with more than three dozen possible toppings. Then comes that first screeching hot bite that sometimes gives you "pizza palate" and scorches the roof of your mouth. (Beware, these pies are brought straight to your table, very hot out of the oven!) Came in from CA to visit family in town. They spoke highly of this place. Was here for dinner the night before Thanksgiving. Pretty busy and lots of kids. Serve was nice and the pizza was really good. Concerns- one of our cups still had thick pink lipstick on it and was only realized half way through the meal. They didn't even wash the darn cup!!! Secondly, the avocado on the CA Club was dark brown, how can staff be okay putting that on a sandwich? Lastly, it took a long time for our pizza to come out. At least 30 minutes after placing the order our waitress came out and apologized that it just went into the oven. Disgusted about the used cup with lipstick on it, long wait, and dark brown avocado...would not recommend this place. read more

I've dined at a few Mellow Mushroom's in the past but this one was the ultimate Bomb! My wife and I were staying in Franklin for a doctor's appointment and decided to order in for dinner. Noticed that this Mellow Mushroom was fairly close to the hotel. Browsed the menu and placed an order for me and her because she has celiac sprue and is gluten intolerant separate orders were the way to go! The food arrived fairly quickly and piping hot! My pizza was delicious and loaded with toppings and the crust was not too thick and not too thin but just chewy on the inside and crispy on the edges. Cheese was gooey and all the way to the edge. My wife's gluten free crust was as usual thin and crispy. Overall this food was better than my previous experiences with Mellow and not to say the others were bad but this was exceptional! read more

This Mellow Mushroom is one of my favorite spots in Franklin. The location is absolutely perfect. If it's a nice night, eating on the outside patio area is the perfect environment. They've got live music a lot too. My brother and I ate there last night and it was great as usual. The waiter we had was delightful. We never had empty drinks (even sitting outside!) and our food was brought out quickly. I typically get calzones when I go and they have been extremely consistent. Great crust and cooked evenly every time. I will continue coming back to this spot! read more

My wife and I stopped by at the recommendation of friends. Visiting from California, we loved this downtown location. The food was excellent. We both enjoyed calzones, and an order of pretzels. The pretzels were very good but I would have appreciated a quality Parmesan cheese and fresh garlic, instead of the cheap powdered cheese. The service was not very good. We were seated outside, and as the even drew darker, the lights near our table were out and it was not the greatest while eating. Once the food arrived, we did not see our server again until we were ready for our bill, we were never asked for refills in our drinks, and my wife, who was offered a drink refill to go of her Diet Coke, was given ice water. Coming from Chicago, as you'd expect, we certainly have lots of opinions on pies. I am and always will be a fan of the deep dish and the extra thin crust za's but I am all about the equal opportunity. To be honest, if it has a crust, lots of melted cheese on it and some sausage I am usually a happy camper. Except white sauce. White pizzas, I am confused by. Why is there Alfredo Chicken on my za I think you mean to call it flatbread or better yet ...a mistake! Get that outta here please and thank you. Sorry that took a dark turn. Heheh...Anyway I am usually not opposed to NY style or Detroit style. Mellow Mushroom is more on the NY style side of things but maybe a little thicker? I found the bite to be pretty good and not too chewy. They put a good amount of cheese which I appreciated. I got the lunch special which was two 1 topping slices and a drink for just under $10. Not to shabby seeing that the slices were pretty big portioned. My fellow lunch partners seemed to really enjoy their calzone and gf pizza as well! We went to MM in Franklin for the first time. Total disappointment. Waited 45 minutes to get a table, which we were a bit disappointed by but understood since it was a nice summer Friday night. When we got seated, the waiter then told us that it was an hour or more wait for pizza. WHAT?! I'm glad he at least let us know. We had our 2 yr old daughter, so opted for hoagies instead. They were not good. The one item that was tasty was the artichoke spinach dip. I kindly gave the manager feedback that he might want to inform the hostesses to let the guests know about the hour wait for pizza (on top of the 45 min wait to get a table) since it's, ya know, a pizza place...and he didn't acknowledge anything and immediately became defensive. While our server was very nice and tried, it seemed that although there were several people working in the kitchen they weren't actually working but just standing around, and we waited 90 minutes after we were seated (and this was after waiting 35 minutes outside) and never did get our food and finally told the waitress we could not wait any longer so left after just having drinks. so we won't be going back here for quite a while. read more

We're conflicted about this location. The food is good, but the service leaves quite a bit to be desired. We ordered online at 5:00pm and the website said it should be ready at 5:40. My husband went to pick up our order and was told they were waiting on one pizza to finish up, and that it would be 5-10 minutes. At 6:25 he still didn't have our order. When it was finally ready he had to remind them about the extra (really expensive) side of beer cheese we had ordered. If this was an isolated incident I wouldn't bring it up, because we do love their pizzas and pretzels. But this happens every time we order takeout from this location. We're given a time to pick up and it's never ready on time. I'm afraid we'll have to find another pizza place. read more

I happened to be walking by this establishment and noticed a happy hour menu hanging in the window, it said one dollar off glasses of wine. So I thought I'll go in and have a glass of wine. I did and ordered some baked chicken wings when I asked the waitress about the happy hour she said oh sorry that was a mistake we were supposed to take that down. I asked to speak with the manager, the manager said the same thing. It is not about the price because it is only one dollar off a glass of wine, it is about the principal and that the so-called reputable establishment just ignored what I was trying to explain and just said oops sorry will take that sign down soon.
