I love it. This isn't the typical NY style pizza i love, but it's good! Never had a bad time or meal here.

I did not know Mellow Mushroom was a chain when I moved to my first East Coast city from Los Angeles. I quickly learned that moving further South would still keep me close to a Mellow Mushroom. After trying out one of their pizzas, I am very glad there's a location just where I need one! For this particular location they offered a Groupon. Not only was I able to have a tasty pizza, but I was also able to save some moolah. I am a big fan of saving moolah whenever possible! Choice of pizza was a medium Maui Wowie: Pesto base with ham, pineapple, jerk chicken, banana peppers, Applewood smoked bacon & mozzarella cheese. At $19.50, that's a lot to pay for a medium pizza, but it is worth every penny! Even if I didn't have a Groupon, I probably would have been ok paying that much. Actually, I am because I am already planning my next trip back to a Mellow Mushroom. When a pizza place takes the time to give the pies a quirky name, you have to go outside your comfort zone and try something new. Don't just gravitate towards a Meat Lover's equivalent. Would I consider putting pesto as a base on my pizza? Now I will! All of the flavors complemented each other very well. I thought the jerk chicken would have too much, or that the banana peppers would detract from my experience. None of that was the case. Looking at their menu, I am interested in these pies: Thai Dye: Olive oil & garlic base, all natural grilled curry chicken, mozzarella cheese, Roma tomatoes, onions. Topped with fresh basil, cucumbers & a sweet swirl of Thai chili sauce. Red Skin Potato Pie: Olive oil & garlic base with sliced roasted red potatoes, Applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Garnished with chives then drizzled with sour cream & spicy ranch dressing. I am a huge fan of calzones, so something tells me I may not be disappointed if I try one at Mellow Mushroom. Went there with my adult son for dinner, first week of June. Ordered a medium pie, sausage and mushroom. The place was maybe 25% filled, not crowded. After waiting almost 30 minutes, the waitress brings the pie to the table, crust is almost black. I told her the pie was over cooked, her response, I'll let the cook know. (?) I'm sure when the cook took the pie out of the oven, he saw it was over cooked. The waitress that brought the pie to our table saw it was over cooked. I'm sorry I didn't ask to see the manager to ask him or her if this pie should have even been brought to the table. The last slice my son went to eat was totally burnt on the bottom and couldn't eat it, we left all the crust, black. We waited for the waitress to return to ask for our check, waited 15 minutes, which the table next to use was also looking for her. I had to get up and go across the restaurant to ask her for the check. Live in the area for 3 years, first and last time my family will go there. There are too many places to get pizza in Lexington, avoid this spot. read more

I can't really say that I've every really had a bad experience at the Lexington Mellow. In fact, my visits have been both satisfying and pleasant every time that I can think of. Service has always been attentive and friendly, whether I'm there on my own or with the family or coworkers. Things can get backed-up in the queue when it gets really busy, but that's to be expected at peak times and I've never felt like I've been ignored or forgotten. The food is quite good in general, with some of the specialty pies being particularly so (Holy Shiitake and Thai Dye, I'm looking at you). Other menu items are good as well (take out calzones are a family favorite). Pizza by the slice and specials during lunch hours are a nice draw for the lunch crowd, and the Lexington location has some nice daily specials to boot ($5 small cheese pizzas on Mondays and kids eat free on Wednesdays, for instance). I'd be remiss not to mention the Mellow draft beer selection, which is large (around 30 beers on tap) and rotating. The owner keeps a good mix of brews coming in, covering most of the major beer styles, with a bit of a lean toward IPA's, stouts and porters (which works for me). Throw in $2.50 pints on Tuesday (except for the high gravity brews), along with a decent selections of additional bottled and canned beers, and you'll more than likely find something to like if you're a beer drinker. One thing is for sure, I'll keep coming back, whether it's taking my oldest for her daddy-daughter date (she loves the Mellow too), hitting it up for the weekly Tuesday lunch or stopping for takeout and having a cold one while I wait, the Lexington Mellow is one of the better pizza and beer spots in town. read more

Our favorite pizza! The house special is delicious, as are the calzones and the hoagies. My girls have to maintain a gluten free diet, and the staff was very careful to minimize the risk of cross-contamination in their pizza (and it was delicious). I've been in a couple of times since my one star review and have received much better treatment and the food quality was greatly improved. Wow!! So great, so so great! My daughter has a dairy & soy allergy and as a breastfeeding mom that means I have to have it too! It's usually so difficult going out to eat, but they were able to accommodate us and do it with a smile. I feel more at home here than I do in my home state! (We're visiting South Carolina this weekend from Michigan). Our server(Sydney) is SO nice and helpful and makes us feel like we're truly guests in this establishment.. Not just a customer. My girlfriend and I went here around 3 o'clock for a late lunch. James was our server and he seemed to be the only bartender/server/host working. He was excellent. James was friendly, quick, and outgoing. The food came out on quickly and was delicious. I've been to Mellow Mushroom many times but James was the friendliest server I've ever met. Came to the mellow mushroom in Lexington today. It was a slow night and the service was very good. It took a while for them to get the pizza out, but they got our appetizers out pretty fast. Overall the food was good and enjoyable. The bad part about the visit was the selection of beers. Saturday is apparently the day they get there beer stock in and there selection of this Friday night was dwindling. Took about three or four tries to get a beer that was still on draft. But can't blame that too much on the restaurant itself though. read more

My primary reason for going to Mellow Mushroom in Lexington is their great local, craft beer selection. That alone isn't enough to make me a "regular", but with great bartender's like Mel it makes it the perfect place to wind down after work. I have been to Mellow Mushroom many times and always end up going back because of the pizza. My husband and I went on Friday night around 7pm. We expected it to be busy and it was but the worse part was not the wait but the parking situation. Do not go around back (behind the resturant) becuase the drive through pick up line backs up so far that it blocks everyone trying to get around and park. Therefore, dont be like me and get stuck for 15 minutes waiting on the drive through line to move, just pull in the parking lot for Moselys beside it and park. After finally getting inside we were seated and ordered the large house pizza. It took a while to come but I figured that would happen since they are made fresh and it was so busy. The pizza is delish mainly because of the crust they make. Plus the large pizza is big enough we had leftovers to take home for the next day. Service was great as well. If you're looking for great pizza, this is the place. More than just your average pepperoni and cheese, the specialty pie menu is incredible, I want to try them all. We ended up having the Holy Shiitake wow! It was so different than any other pizza we've ever had. Ask for a side of Esperanza dressing to dip your crusts in, I think I could drink it!! I have tried so many times to like this restaurant. Maybe it's just because I like the name? Ha. I just don't care for it. The pizza is just never good to me. I love New York style personally the best. Service is always, just ok or bad. Tonight, the waitress was super sweet but not super attentive. No drink refills automatically but she did ask if we needed anything. I was also there with my 4 year old. She wanted pizza. We came here to eat for my daughters birthday we had a large group. Would probably equal to waiting on 5 individual tables . It took over a hour to get our pizza and our children were the very last to get their French bread pizza which is super hard to make! This was all the kitchens fault and when we talked to the manager about it his response was well we are trying to catch up from Saturday! Really people are still waiting on their pizza from Saturday????? First time eating here and last!! Manager didn't even have the decency to apologize either! Mellow Mushroom definitely showed that the customer doesn't even matter tonight. Ordered food online and was told to pick up at 7:19. After waiting in the pickup line, it was 7:29 when I go to the window and assumed it would be ready. I was told it was coming out of the oven and to pull around and they would bring it out to me. After waiting until 7:49 with a screaming hungry child in the car, I called and stated my problem to which there was no remedy so I asked to be refunded on my credit card. I doubt that request will be honored, but was assured it would be refunded. The excuse was the "system" let too many orders through and they couldn't keep up. It was my observation everyone in front of me got their order, sooooo.... The lady on the phone wouldn't even let my wife speak for trying to speak over her and make excuses as to why it wasn't their fault. Please be assured you won't have to worry about this annoying customer ever again, this location is blacklisted. read more

Good food and fun atmosphere. Hard to park. Parking lot is always full. Be prepared to jockey for a place. Pricing seems steep on some items. I have a pet peeve about paying $2 for watered down iced tea. Adding toppings to pizzas or salads increases the cost very quickly. I think they could do better in that aspect. Cheese bread appetizer was so tasty; only bad part was getting full before the pizza even arrived. The creamscicle drink was alright but nothing out of this world. A group of us went here for dinner last night. Waitress was attentive, as our group trickled in and got us our drink orders as we came in. Food came out in a timely manner as well (in about 10-15 minutes after we placed our orders). Waitress had another soft drink refill for me without needing me to ask for refill. Always like their food - it is different from you other chains (Papa John's Pizza Hut, Domino's), and coincidentally, there is a Domino's right next to this locale. I will not be a returning customer. While waiting for our pizza, our entertainment was watching the dust fuzz hanging off the shoes, wondering when and where they might land. I don't want to risk a clump of dust falling on my food. Then we got distracted by a couple who came in after we had ordered, receiving a pizza before us by our waitress. Then we watched as it sit on their table for 10 minutes before they finally asked a woman "excuse me, do you work here? We didn't order this" then they took the pizza back to the kitchen. Of course after that long, their pizza was up so the waitress took their pizza right to them. Then we watched as our pizza sat there for another 10 minutes as 5 waitresses kept passing it up. We figured they would be making a new pizza since at every restaurant I've ever worked at, if anything comes back from a table then it gets trashed since you never know if they touched it or not. So finally after 10 minutes, our waitress finally brings us the pizza that's been passed around the restaurant for 20 minutes. So our options were to say something and get a new pizza made and wait another 30+ minutes or just suck it up and give her a crappy tip. With 2 hungry kids and 1 baby who didn't want to be there in the first place we just sucked it up and ate our not hot pizza. If the waitress simply explained to us the situation and asked if we wanted them to make a new pizza she would have gotten a normal tip, but to act as if we hadn't seen what had been happening to our pizza was completely wrong of her. No, this was not a busy time, or after a busy time. It was Sunday at 4pm. There were 3 tables sat when we got there and 4 guys at the bar. The pretzels were good. And even if the pizza was hot, it didn't taste like it used to. This location has gone completely down hill. read more

Worst Mellow Mushroom I've ever been to. I'd give it zero stars if I could. Just sat there for 30 minutes and was never served food. Clearly the server had forgotten to put in my order. I understand you can be busy, and mistakes happen. However this was not the case. She was simply chatting at the bar. I was hoping to get a quick lunch and get back to work, now I've wasted my entire lunch break without having lunch. The food here is good, and the server we got the first night we were there was great! We went back the second night to get a beer and the staff was HORRIBLE. No one greeted us, the bartender was rude and sloppy, and most of the staff was outside smoking in front of us. My beer was warm and spilling over the side and the bartender never even offered me a napkin. Ten minutes before they were supposed to close, they turned off the lights and the music while we were still there. No one told us they were getting ready to close, no one even checked on us while we were there. TOTALLY unprofessional and I will never go there again. read more
