One son, granddaughter Julie, and manager Kyle reopened Whitaker Auto Collision on Willow Springs with a state of the art new paint booth! I only trust granddaughter Julie and her two managers, Kyle and Shane. My husband accidentally whipped a garage door seal with nails on his Acura Integra's front bumper. I was not planning on leaving a review but I changed my mind. I brought my vehicle here for repairs…read morein January after a hit and run. My car had a large dent in the front driver side fender. After I picked my vehicle up and left the repair shop, I noticed that the door edge guard on the drivers door was completely different than the rest of the door guards and had been placed about 6 inches too high. I also noticed 2 areas that had damage that was not there prior to me dropping the car off. One of the vertical panels next to the drivers door window was significantly chipped with the top layer peeling away. There is also the same chipping on the horizontal panel below the rear driver side window, see photos. Once I brought this to their attention, the door guards were all replaced as well as the vertical panel on the drivers door window. The day before bringing my vehicle in for these repairs, I sent an email addressing the chip on the back driver side door panel. Since I live on the opposite side of town, I wanted to ensure that part was going to be replaced too before bringing my car all the way over there again. I never received a response to my email, so I called and was asked to go ahead and bring the car in so they could see it. But while I was there waiting for the other repairs to be completed, there was no mention of the part I had asked about in my email. I didn't say anything and I just left after the door guards and vertical drivers door window panel were fixed. While the chip is small, it was not there when I dropped the car off and its damage that was not there prior to the car being left with the shop. It's hot in Texas, and eventually that chipping will start getting worse in the heat, and I will be the one that has to replace that part. I also do not appreciate the way that my email was ignored and just swept under the rug. Those are the facts. I hate to leave a negative review, but there's still damage on my car that was done while my car was at this shop. It's damage that I'll eventually have to get repaired myself, whether it's 6 months from now, or 5 years from now. Needless to say, I cannot recommend this business.

When I brought it back the next week to start work, I also brought them a spoiler, which they handled. However, the rust repair was not done. All they did was paint over the patch job that I did myself at home. I paid them to cut out my patch job and weld in new metal. But they didn't do that. No one responds to my emails. I called and I talked to the owner on the phone about it. He wrote down my phone number, said he'd talk to "the body shop guys" and call me back. That never happened either. I paid for a budget paint job. I got a budget paint job, but I also paid for body work that they didn't do. I got ripped off. If they wanted more money to do the whole job I hired them for, then first of all - communicate with me and tell me what's going on. Second, a higher bill would be crap because I shopped around and I have a written estimate for another shop for the same work. I mistakenly went with Colunga because the location was closer. If this is how they treat customers, no one should do business with Colunga Body and Paint.

Second, you know its going to cost and arm and a leg to look better. You know its going to be expensive and the outcome is uncertain. The only thing for certain is you want it to be over. So you get to Colunga's which you found on Yelp, and you see all these very cool cars in front, customized and painted like works of art. That makes you feel better because you think, wow these might actually be craftsman here. They are friendly, they look at everything and they give you an estimate. Of course it looks like a lot for a little bodywork, but that's how it goes. I did find they were more reasonable than any of the three other places I went to. Best is to drop off the car for a few days, don't try and rush them, you're only hurting yourself if you do. Wait as many days as they ask and show up and the car looks great, everything looks better than you hoped. I'm dropping off my second vehicle here because after their first job, there's no other place I'd take a car for repairs. I'm even having them do some other minor repairs just to make the car look "newer".

From the very beginning, they treated me like a person instead of just another insurance claim or dumb girl walking into a car shop. One thing that immediately stood out was that they actually asked me, "How perfect do you want this to look?" That might sound like a small question, but it wasn't. They took the time to explain my options instead of automatically pushing the most expensive repair possible, which I really appreciated. I have a 2015 and so it doesn't need to look fresh off the lot. Their estimate also came in **significantly** lower than another shop I visited, but at no point did it feel like they were cutting corners. The repair quality was excellent, and my Mazda looks fantastic again. What really earned this review, though, was the top notch customer service. When they noticed my Mazda emblem had cracked, they replaced it for me. During the conversation I jokingly mentioned making it pink... and they actually custom did it. It's such a fun little personal touch that makes me smile every time I walk up to my car. Most body shops fix your vehicle and send you on your way. Nova managed to fix my car and make the experience pain free and memorable. Nobody wants to spend $$$ on body work, but if you have to, it's nice knowing you're working with people who are honest, communicate well, and genuinely care about their customers.
