Back again. This time we couldn't figure out what we wanted to eat and so I ordered a cappuccino while the two of us sat and snacked on the baguette toast with butter and strawberry jam. Very Continental. LOL We're always trying a new empanada and this time we each tried the corn-stuffed version. Mr. Picky liked it, so I've added it to the list of things we'd try again. I prefer the homemade chorizo version, but keeping his tummy happy makes my life happier as I don't have to listen to complaints!!! LOL Now in the past Mr. Picky has ordered desserts and not followed my lead in ordering the Torta Borracha which is a Moscato drunken cake with leche and cream and a crunchy candy topping sprinkle. He decided that with Christmas coming, he would splurge and do what he wanted to do with his food, so he went straight to ordering dessert. Being totally set up with his past behavior of ordering a dessert, then tasting mine, and then stealing mine!...This time I insisted he try the Torta Borracha and he loved it, so much so that he said he was going to order another piece! Trust me, this is the best dessert on the menu by far! He took a bite and the smile was so big on his face you wouldn't believe it. As usual, I was right! I'll order my own piece later after my entrée. Hey I tried a new entrée because they offer a good selection of Milanesas on the menu. I really enjoyed the version with the white souls, red souls and cheese. I was a bit worried but that wasn't necessary because it turned out to be very tender. Then it was my dessert time. I ordered Torta Borracha. He held to his statement that he would eat 2 and so he got another while I was ordering mine. We decided to take leftovers home but were sad they would not be full pieces, thus ordered another Torta Borracha To go. That made 4 orders through the course of the meal. ************* Fabulous place hidden away in a strip mall. OK, I have to tell you the place was hopping, packed with people, happy kids and families all eating together, quite a racket. This was very obviously a popular place and we hoped the food would prove that was the case. In the middle of the day during the lunch hour the noise level was pretty high. When I walked in and I thought I heard someone banging away and butchering meat, but maybe that was some other noise. Either way, this is a butcher shop and grocery as well as an Argentinian restaurant. Over the course of our meal, waiter Abraham Luiz was fabulous, very attentive and helpful. Upon arrival they deliver soft white rolls with a fragrant Chimichurri and delicious pickled Bell pepper and onion in olive oil dips. They should sell that last one by the gallon, it was so yummy, its sharpness perfect to get you salivating. We started by sharing three empanadas, the beef, cheese and onion, and then their homemade sausage chorizo. Well, chorizo empanada was fabulous, filled with flavors, piping hot and super juicy. I could eat that one all day long, I kid you not! The meal had several wow moments. R's Chicken Milanesa with ham and cheese was very good according to him. The cannelloni stuffed with spinach and cheeses in a pink sauce was fabulous and totally off the charts. Mr. Picky ordered this and was reluctant to give me a bite. I tell you, that was so so so good! I ordered the Parillada for one (they substituted a sausage for the sweetbreads because I am not a huge thymus fan). One expects a little chew with a short rib, but these were so tasty and I didn't mind. The skirt steak was seasoned nicely and falling apart tender. A definite winner for a person in a Meat Mood. Dessert: the three of us ordered a bunch of stuff and we ended up with some take-home packages. Everyone thought the tiramisu was pretty good, but I thought the star was a dish recommended to me by the waiter and which I would definitely order again--Torta Borracha, homemade drunken cake made with Moscato, and some dulce de leche and cream. Wow, yum, wet wonderfulness :-), decided as the designated driver that I'd take it home to finish later! We tried the homemade cheesecake but weren't huge fans, and my first bite of the "Alfajor" left me a bit surprised; I could do without trying that again as it somehow stuck to the roof of my mouth (it's traditionally Peruvian but also eaten in Argentina, two plain cookies glued together with dulce de leche). Finished with cappuccino. Done! The three of us sampled a massive amount of food, but in general I would say there are some real bargains here. $13 for the cannelloni was amazing! Waiter Abraham Luiz assured us that it was a warm and family-friendly place and repeatedly said he hoped we would be back. Believe me, we will be back! He comp'd us a Luna/moon-shaped Factura pastry and I thought it was very good. We can't wait to come back again as we make regular stops here. Woohoo! I found a new favorite empanada place! This was my first time getting food from Mercado Buenos Aires and it won't be the last! I ordered for takeout and the food was ready in the time that they estimated. We had the following baked empanadas: * beef * chicken * spinach * skirt steak * corn * ham and cheese I enjoyed all of the empanadas but I would definitely get the beef, chicken, and skirt steak again! They were the most flavorful out of all the empanadas. The dough was fresh and cooked to perfection! We also tried the lomito focaccia sandwich. It was delicious! They have most of their empanadas already cooked and in a warmer except the ham and cheese ones which are deep fried and supposed to take 10 minutes. The first time I came here a friend that lives in the area invited me. It has been some years since I last came. I would be in the area to see a holistic doctor I've been seeing and interesting enough my friend texted me and I knew we I would love to see her. It is still in a small plaza. Parking is still cone first serve. Some of the spots are marked for the other businesses. Make sure you don't park on those marked spots. There is some street parking. My always hungry teenage son and I arrived before my friend did. He were seated right away and our drink order was taken right away. I ordered a sangria that was not listed in the menu. I just saw a picture posted on Yelp. After my friend arrived the dinner bread was brought out with the chimichurri. Let me tell that that has not changed and continues to be delicious and amazing. It turns out my friend is a regular here and is well aquatinted with the staff here. I knew I would be ordering my absolute favorite here which is the entraña. When the waiter arrived he presented us with the special of the day. It was a steak with a pepper sauce and potatoes in a garlic sauce. My son went with the 14 oz entraña and I had the special. I didn't try my son's entraña because it disappeared quite fast. Me on the other hand I took my time to savor the delicious meal. I was so impressed and satisfied, but I knew I had to save room for dessert because this place also has great dessert. We ended up sharing a tres leches dessert. I have been coming here for many years for the good food and friendly service. Their empanadas are really delicious and always fresh. We love the beef filling the most. When we have parties I get in dozens. Everyone loves them. The prices is reasonable unlike other places. The menu is full of delicious meals. Lots of seating and great customer service. From time to time we buy meat from the butcher and we marinate it at home. We grill it on charcoal and serve it with their chimichuri. They sell the chinichuri in jars, great for dipping in bread or pouring over grilled meats. Super delicious. Right off the bat - parking is atrocious, if not for the small area and spaces, it's the entitled clowns in Camry's thinking they own the lot. But nothing against the restaurant. Today I was helped by two employees, both of whom I had to say it was my first time and needed a moment. They both addressed me in Spanish and when I responded in English, also stating I don't speak Spanish, they seemed annoyed and rolled their eyes. Mind you - they shouldn't assume ANYONE speaks a certain language, the same way I don't, and they weren't busy where I was holding up the line. There was literally one person after me who I let go ahead and order. Anyways, I ordered the chicken and beef empanadas, which are $2.50 each. They are a good size and filled to the edge with meat. Both have a soft but crispy crust which is great, and not dry like most places. The beef had great flavor and it was tender but way too salty. I enjoyed the chicken more as I feel the depth of flavor on the chicken was greater. I always see the torta boracha in Yelp photos and had to try it. The menu describes this as "Homemade drunk cake made with lady fingers,dipped in moscato wine and layered with dulce de leche and cream". And yes, this cake is DRUNK. The alcohol is so strong and the cake itself is super sweet, plus being a bit soft and mushy, it's honestly an odd combination of factors that I didn't quite enjoy. I'm not sure if this slice was leftover from previous day(s), if some ingredients were more than usual (i.e. the alcohol, sugar, etc) but let's just say I'm willing to give it another shot to try again. I also picked up a package of alfajores cookies that were not too sweet but tasted good as a light snack or dessert. Overall, the service, and certain aspects of the food were a few issues but I'd be willing to give this place another chance. read more

It took a while, so my husband that was in the car decide to check why I was taking too long. He speaks Spanish so he decided to ask, at this point it's been more than 10 minutes of wait (of an order that was placed almost 15 minute before that). He went to her and asked, she was confused about which order, so I stepped in with my phone showing the order. Again she rolled her eyes to me, which it really bothered my husband. After that we waited about 5 minutes more and got the order. But guess what? As we got home and started to eat, we realized they gave us the wrong flavor of empanadas. Which is very frustrating. I can get past the eye rolling, as honestly I couldn't care less, I don't like the rude answers, an apology and communication would be nice, but the cherry on top that made me write this review is the wrong order. They take a lifetime to make an easy to go order, the least they had to do is make sure it was correct. Absolutely recommend Mercado Buenos Aires! My favorite item on the menu is the ribeye (with herb butter). It's delicious, a good portion size, and a great price. There is also a wide variety of snacks/pastries you can order to go. The alfajors are pretty tasty! This place has a Sunday market relaxing vibe that I enjoy while it also is a sit down restaurant with great service and offering daily specials. The fries were COVERED in garlic and had the perfect crisp. We were stuffed and satisfied! BUT...the dessert... AMAZING! We had the drunken cake and the dulce de leche crêpe. I have truly never had anything like that before. It was a food-a-palooza for sure, but I really felt like I got an authentic Argentinian meal and experience! I have been coming to this place for years for their empanadas. This would be our Friday night we don't feel like doing out date night dinner night in. There used to be an older Man who worked there who was awesome. Not sure what happened to him. We were not able to keep in touch since we moved far from the area. So anytime we are visiting LA, we come here to get some empanadas. We have had their steak dinner before also and it was very good. Everything looks good here! We have also tried the tres leches cake slices and it was so delicious, moist and decadent. We ordered chicken and spinach empanadas. Busy mom and pop shop. They have several deli cases full of various pastry's and desserts. There is a decent about of seating, but I can see it getting full quickly on busy days. There's a average amount of noise, several buzzing conversations at the various tables. It gives the feel of an old diner. On this particular visit I just came for dessert and I was ready to get home, so I got it to go! I ordered the Torta Borracha. Homemade drunk cake made with lady fingers, dipped in moscato wine and layered with dulce de Leche and cream! This is a very decadent dish. Very rich and creamy.
