Mercer Salon is great! I wasn't happy with my current stylist and hair cut so I was looking to replace her. So my girlfriend recommended (Mercer Salon) on Washington Avenue close to Memorial Park. Since I live close by, I've decided to try it.The place was a lot cooler and nicer than what I was used too. I was impressed with the stylish decor and cool music that was playing and I admit, I was little intimidated. As I walked through the door I was introduced to Vielka and her gorgeous smile, she introduced herself and offered me a glass of wine. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do with my hair but she took the time to ask me some questions and get to know me. She totally transformed my curly out of style hair to a more modern and cool look. My hair looked great and I got several compliments from my friends and clients. I made an appointment with Denny after reading about this salon on yelp. I live in the Heights and wanted to try a new salon close to home. Denny was very professional and friendly. I have extremely thick hair that I have been trying to grow out. I explained to Denny that I wanted "Kate Middleton" hair. He asked me lots of questions before starting to cut. First appointments with a new stylist are usually nerve wrecking but I felt secure with Denny the whole time. Denny added long layers and used thinning shears to take out some of the volume without losing any of the length. It was exactly what I wanted and I hadn't felt that happy leaving a salon in a long time. Ladies, if you have thick hair Denny is the stylist for you! I bought the Moroccan Oil at the salon and several people have commented on how silky my hair looks. I'm new to Houston and am high maintenance with my hair, but really needed a color touch up right after I moved. I called Mercer Salon and thankfully, was given an appointment with the owner Vielka. I voiced my concerns the 1st time I met with her and she listened. She is a master at color. I have dark brown hair and wanted a color touch up for a little bit of grey and wanted her to leave my current base the same color. She did it Exactly like I asked. She Listens and cares. The next time I went she gave me some beautiful, caramel face framing highlights just like we discussed. If you want excellent color and someone who listens and can exactly match your vision or picture... she is the person to go to. First of all, I am a man, so my review doesn't apply to most of the people who will read it. I got my hair cut by Denny back in April. It is now July, and I still haven't had another cut. The service at this place was great, but my wife doesn't want me to go back because my hair was cut too short for her liking. I also gave one special instruction on a cowlick area not to go crazy on, and though he was trying to follow it, Denny still overcut that spot. I left thinking I could have paid a lot less elsewhere for the cut I got. Obviously I have gotten my money's worth at this point, three months later. This place is probably great for men with shorter styles, and again, the customer service was superb. read more

I recently had the Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment and love it!! Vielka did an excellent job and transformed my hair. I'm very happy with it. Before I had frizzy dry, unmanageable course hair and now it's really smooth and soft without any frizz. It's been 2 months now and my hair still looks like it did when I first had the brazilian blowout treatment. I've tried other smoothing treatments & this was the best. Vielka is also great at matching color, and the color looks very natural. I've been to other salons, and found that Vielka is the best, she can match color perfectly. Having been a client of Vielka's for over a decade, I can honestly say I've always felt gorgeous after an appointment with her. Today, however, deserves an honorable mention...I pulled a "walk of shame" hair edition by bleaching/highlighting my hair a few days ago, and had a brassy orange-blonde halo at my scalp and blotches throughout my chestnut mane (blame the tequila). Vielka was not only kind in not shaming me, but graciously color corrected my hair, then did a balayage and gave me an amazing cut and style. So I drove all the way to the Heights from Sugar Land, at this point I was desperate. April literally performed a miracle! She was so comforting and professional. I have never had color stay so long and my roots not show. Vielka certainly knows her stuff. Also I have completely white hair and the color usually just slides off and when it is dyed, it looks dyed. I can't tell you what an artist she is, my son has also gone to her for a cut and said no one had cut his hair so well.
