It's truly a five star restaurant, I just messed up. Allow me to explain. Located in the new and improved, The Village, I arrived to find a truly impressive dinning spot with a very comfy yet tasteful bar room and main seating area. I'm a fan of places with ceilings that kind of slope towards the hub of the establishment as it's visually appealing and has a playful quality to it. There is also lots of greenery adorning the edges of the windows, some innovative lighting, and a rustic meets urban symphony taking place with the decor. The outdoor seating looked astounding as well, but the weather wasn't suitable for it on this particular evening. I forgoed the usual four course regimen in favor of some of the happy hour items which commenced with the Grilled "Beach Cheese" on a Stick. Those ended up being a little sweeter than I was expecting with honey and lime listed among the ingredients. I should mention that it was brought out at the same time as my meal, which was the very '90s-sounding, X-Tudo Burger, a deceptively small but filling morsel also possessing its own distinctly sugary flavor. There were some brief moments of saccharine overload during the duration of the evening, but that's only when the two were eaten in combination. Next time, I will definitely stick with the regular menu because picking and choosing on my own was proven quite risky. Despite that anecdote, I have to highly recommend Meridian! I know there is a whole world to explore in that menu and I will return soon to investigate further. I do have a feeling that had Meridian been around when I lived in The Village, I would've absolutely been a regular, but as that's not the case now, it's still certainly worth my time and effort to make the trip. read more

We had an excellent time for a birthday party, the staff were very accommodating. They rolled out a new menu the day before we arrived and wow! Everything was great. Buddy of mine thought he was going to leave hungry after the first course-- definitely not the case! Highly recommend the skate as the 3rd course. I don't have a huge sweet tooth so I had the sorbet for my final course and it was fantastic! In addition to the great staff and food, John with the valet crew was awesome! You drive through a residential area and suddenly you are in an amazing community with restaurants, golf, a swimming pool ... A beautiful place. The parking is hard so you'll probably have to valet. I always love eating in a restaurant surrounded by windows with natural light streaming in. Our server was always nearby and her recommendations were spot on from drinks to dessert. Rediscovering the village was quite a find. We had not been anywhere near here in over 25 years. Hard to believe that this is the same area that has been re-developed into a destination. The meridian is a stylish modern Brazilian bistro. The restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing the staff was very pleasant. Since I don't drink I can't tell you about the alcohol however the mock tales were excellent my table mates assured me that the drinks were Interesting and delicious. Now for the food... We started off with their fresh baked bread which was amazing in addition we had the cheese curds. Both of these were excellent choice offered to us by our waiter. An additional appetizer was the fluke tartar. This is very refreshing and different Our entrées including the Peri Peri chicken and the whole octopus. We also had the black cod. The chicken was the best choice grilled over there woodfired perfectly. The octopus was burnt on the tentacles and the body was a bit tough. Although this was an interesting choice. However the cod had a wonderful sauce. For dessert we had a hazelnut torte with chocolate mousse inside. My overall impression of the restaurant is it was fair. I'm saying the portions are small the prices are high and my octopus was over cooked for $90. As we were seated in the bar it was very noisy and very difficult to hear both our waiter and a table match. I have been to Meridian many times and each time I go, I fall more in love. The service, the drinks, the atmosphere ... but most importantly the food, never disappoints. Strongly recommend the prix fixe menu and wine paring, it's obvious that a great deal of thought, planning and execution went into their menu. The waitress was impeccably wonderful with attending to all our questions and needs. I've owned and worked in the industry and so super all about this and the meridian staff lived up to par. Warning about hamburger. They are just a little bigger than a slider and are charred to almost ash. We were told it's because they are smashed. Haha. They are totally doing it wrong. Smash once to sear and seal then don't smash again. You're drying it out! I've had better McDonalds burgers for sure. The service was "trying" but failed to be swift or purposeful. Food came out late and drinks sat unfilled. Caesar salad was very interesting and done well. Cocktail was pretty basic and just not worth the $21 price. We had a 4:30 reservation on Wednesday November 2nd for our 20th wedding anniversary and the host was very personable, service oriented, and accommodated our request to sit outside on the patio. I love the interior and exterior design of the restaurant. The patio was perfect. Our server was very helpful in suggesting things to try, and informed us they have their own herb garden on premises. We opened with cocktails, then martinis; the bartenders did very well! The appetizers were unique and very good, we tried the beach cheese on a stick, the beef tartar in the Daikon radish leaves were a unique riff, the sesame garlic pancakes, then the Kohlrabi Ceasar was really fresh and unique, the chardonnay paired with Yucca Gnocchi pasta course (really delicious) and red wine with Rosewood Wagyu Picanha (not a favorite course but unique) were some of the best wines we've tasted in awhile- we greatly appreciated the wine tastings -great job Somm! The weather was great, we could see the sunset, people watch, and we finished with the delicate Yucca and Coconut cake paired with Cypres di Climens sautern which was delightful. Always an amazing time at Meridian! I went twice in the last week and got to enjoy their spring menu! Both times we had Micah as our server, and he was so wonderful! Visit #1 (2 people): - beef tartare (black truffle XO, crispy garlic, wrapped in shiso leaf; comes in 3 pieces): Very creative concept, wrapping beef tartare in the shiso leaf to balance out the flavors. My friend really liked it, but I thought the meat was a little too salty. Loved the extra crunch texture with the garlic, though! - half-dozen oysters (gooseberry, thai chili, rose mignonette) - grilled soft-shell crab (topped with caviar beurre blanc, "old bay," on top of texas toast): I enjoyed this dish, but I think that the sour sauce was a little overpowering. Loved the trout roe mixed with caviar in the sauce, but honestly, couldn't taste the caviar. And the crab was pretty small, without much crab meat. So it felt like we were just eating the crab shell, which was still tasty to me, but my friend felt it was not worth the value because of this. Crab on top of texas toast is the MOVE, for sure. - fusilli verde (topped with pork ragu, herbs, chili, parmesan): we've gotten this before, but we had to get it again because we remember it being so delicious! and our memory definitely didn't let us down - the bits of pork ragu mixed in with the pasta --- mmmm! heaven on earth! - rohan duck breast (with yucca, bloomsdale spinach, tucupi): done to a perfectly medium rare temp. The skin definitely had that crispy texture that we always look for in duck. But we wish it were even crispier. Perfection on the taste, though! - maitake mushrooms: a little on the salty side for my tastes, but went very well with our duck! - strawberry pavlova: I liked the texture of the crust at the bottom of the creamy dessert. we couldn't finish it as we were so full by the end of our meal, but a great dessert to satisfy that sweet tooth! - domaine rougeot 'les lameroses' 2018 pinot noir, Burgundy, France: very strong on the fruity notes, loved! - domaine bobinet vins vivants Hanami 2020 France: my friend got this as the they were out of the cabernet he wanted, but I had a taste and was hooked, so I had to get a glass myself! - We happened to visit a day before Meridian celebrated their anniversary, and we coincidentally were seated near Chef Thomas Keller and his family/friends who were dining there at the same time! Amazing that Chef Junior Borges has such a close relationship with his mentor! Visit #2 (3 people): - squash blossoms (fried, filled with ricotta, herbs, and lemon + relish of last year's preserved jimmy nardello peppers and pickled ramps; comes in 3 pieces): these came out very soon after ordering, and they were piping hot! I enjoyed the fluffy ricotta inside, balancing out the saltiness of the other fillings. The relish was suuuper delicious too! - daily bread (with marbled butter, whipped lardo, olive oil & saba): ours was the laminated brioche - I have never ordered this before, but so glad my friends were down for this! The laminated brioche was done to crispy perfection on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. - tapioca brazilian cheese fritters (with houesmade capicola, farm pickles, smoked hot sauce): these are a must!!! Basically little baked cheese balls, but packed full of flavor! - green garlic panisse (with morel mushrooms, green garbanzo, soft egg): my friend recommended this salad, and I'm so glad she pointed it out! We cut into the egg in the middle and let the yolk oooooze out, so fun! there's a flan-like piece in the middle of the salad! Garbanzo beans added a soft taste that balanced out the egg! - grilled soft-shell crab: as above - spaghetti (with last summer's tomatoes, herb breadcrumb, fiore sardo): The breadcrumbs in the spaghetti - on point! they added a hint of crunchy between bites that made the spaghetti so FIRE! - black cod moqueca (charred plantain and coconut broth, dende oil, steamed rice): My friend described this one as curry-like. But it's not spicy. It does have that nice, ever-so-slight coconut flavor. I'm not sure I would have put the broth with cod as the protein, but I could see it going really well with chicken or even pork. Our entrees (spaghetti, black cod moqueca) took over 30 minutes to come out, which was a little surprising given our previous dishes had come out in a very timely manner. Had a fantastic dinner at Meridian for my husband's birthday. I suggest visiting during happy hour to take advantage of their food and drink specials. We enjoyed the wagyu burger (HH menu only), beach cheese on a stick, yuca fries, beef tartare, pastel, and gnocchi with lump crab and smoked trout roe. We opted to not order any larger plates or "from the hearth" section ($$$!) and it felt like the right choice as we ended up preferring the smaller plates. Would probably pass on the gnocchi/pastas next time. Service and vibes are exceptional here. Upscale enough for a special occasion but still cozy and warm. read more

Such unique food! I've been wanting to try this place for a while and so happy I finally got the chance. Our waitress was amazing. I started with vanilla killer or killers vanilla- the drink got better as I drank it and had an interesting vanilla kick. Definitely share things. We ordered kohlrabi salad, tomatoes, catupiry casoncelli, tilefish moqueca, fried potatoes, and brigadeiro cake. The pasta hands down was the best thing we had. Loved the sauce of the fish dish- tasted like a unique curry- but doesn't taste as good when it cools down so eat it fast. The endive salad was minty and the tomatoes were refreshing- both were super light which I liked. The potatoes- these would have been good but they were overcooked/burnt sadly. Last night was the second year in a row we celebrated my birthday at Meridian. Obviously, we liked it a lot last year. We still liked it this year but it was not as good an experience. It was not just the 40 minute wait between appetizers and entrees, never noted at all by our server although a manager stopped by to apologize after about a half hour. Last year we were greeted with a complimentary serving of pão de queijo at the beginning of the meal and also an unexpected additional dessert at the end. Given the 40 minute lag time I think they could have done better than just the manager's apology. And the food was not as good as last year. The beef tartare wrapped in shiso leaves was good but not chopped finely. And both entrees were lukewarm, as if they'd been sitting on the counter for 10 or more of those 40 minutes. I'll add that their suggested tips are calculated after tax which seems a little sneaky. I did my own calculation of 20% based on the pre-tax subtotal, which is standard practice. Will I go back for my birthday next year? Probably not, there are plenty of other great restaurants around. We still plan to go to the happy hour with friends sometime, and hope the kitchen will be having a better night. read more

Have been wanting to go here for a while, so we were excited to finally get to enjoy what is Meridian. First impressions are this is a very low key place. Nothing fancy. We saw several people show up in shorts. We almost felt over dressed. The menu is small, but I get the impression it changes daily. We started with some nice cocktails with the help of our server, who was extremely helpful and guided us throughout the evening, helping us define and plan out our meal, as well as, pair wines with each course. We started with the beach cheese. Very good. Then we moved to the cured halibut. This was incredible. Then we moved to a stuffed squash blossom. Very unique and tasty, but the cured halibut outshone the squash blossom. For our mains we had fish that was served with a warm coconut and plantain broth. Simply light and excellent. Then we had the rosewood wagyu piranha with a small potato pave with duck fat and smoked leek that. The accompanying sides were very good. I've had my share of wagyu beef and did not feel this was wagyu. While flavorful, it was fairly tough. My partner could not finish. The wine pairing for this dish was better than the dish itself. To finish our meal, we were given mango jellies and chocolates. Both incredible. All in all, I'd say the food was excellent and I'd love to try some other dishes. What a great experience! I really enjoyed dinner at Meridian. The moment we walked in the vibe and service were on point. We arrived a little early so that we could have a drink at the bar. I didn't know what to order, so the bartender asked me to name things I liked.. his suggestion was perfect. Nailed it! Once our table was ready we were lead to the other side of the restaurant. Wow! Well done. This place looks fabulous! Once we were seated the service did not disappoint. The waitress had a team of support and they all worked together so cohesively. We started off with "Our Daily Bread", and if you're wondering, yes, it is worth $12. Next we had the Beach Cheese, and yes, a cheese on a stick was worth $6. I had the pleasure of checking out this restaurant recently with a few friends and we had a fantastic experience for our friends birthday. Our server was extremely friendly and the ambiance was very modern, upscale, and inviting. Complimentary Valet was also available upon arrival which was so nice to avoid the stress of having to find a place to park. The appetizers were a bit on the small side, but I suppose that would be typical of a restaurant like this. We started off with the beef tartare, tapioca cheese fritter, and sesame pancake and all of it was delicious. When I say they were small, I mean the pancake was probably the size of a quarter... and I would absolutely order it again in spite of that. So delicious. The mains are supposedly served family style according to our server, but they are each about the size of a typical entrée, so I wouldn't expect to be able to order less than the amount of people at the table. I ordered the Wagyu Picanha and my wife ordered the Fusilli Verde and both were great. I was caught off guard after trying her pasta and I think I would order that again even over the picanha when we go back! Going as a group, I was also able to taste the grouper Moqueca, half chicken from the hearth, and... some sort of other pasta that I can't remember that had shaved truffle on top. Their menu rotates, so I am sure there will be a lot of variation over time, but the main takeaway is that there wasn't a bad item that came to our table! Their cocktail program was also fantastic. Overall, I had a great experience. I highly recommend treating yourself by giving this place a try, and I would love to go back. read more

While the small bites did have moments of bliss and euphoria, the entrees I selected were quite the understatement to the talents of the chef. For my meal being hit and miss, as well as a clear difference in philosophy in how things should be flavored or prepared, I cant help to feel frustrated. While I want to eat here again, it may not be anytime soon, and Ill be thinking twice before ordering an entrée or dessert. Interior wise it felt sleek and modern, but still had a tinge of formality to it. Our server was nice and informative of the menu, but since we were early birds, they did like to check on us way more than they should have. The check ins became less frequent closer to the end of our meal, which was closer to prime time dining of 7PM. Come here once the sun is down. Where the sun is positioned at 5PM and where our table was, we felt like ants under a magnifying glass. After an hour things were much more enjoyable. I can only imagine how it will be during the summer time in these corner spots. The killers vanilla cocktail is super smooth. Such a simple cocktail, yet the real vanilla bean they use makes a huge difference. Its almost as if a breeze of fresh air made of tequila blows over me, followed by the conjuring of a vanilla bean. The Sesame garlic pancake was delicious! It's a little bigger than an amuse bouche, but pillowy soft pancake, creamy avocado mouse , and fresh caviar feels so elegant and refreshing. It's gone within a bite or two, or ensure you take the time to savor this. The Beach Cheese could have been better. Perhaps I need to experience authentic beach cheese at a stall within Brazil to fully appreciate the experience? The cheese wasn't gooey, sat around a mildly warm temp, and wasn't exploding in flavor. I do like the hot honey glaze as well as the presentation on how its served. But for what I experienced, Id say this is easily something you could skip. The foie torchon is pure pleasure. The torchon itself is the best part: flaky, buttery, and well crafted. The foie and blackberry combo are a delight in their intense wholeness. I was tempted to order another round of these, but I knew I had other items coming out. If there was one thing you should get, this would be it as a starter course. The Kohlrabi Caesar was a surprising good dish. The presentation of the shaved kohlrabi architected into a sphere like dome was a visual delight. They use an apple shaver apparently to create the thin slices and I was quite amused by its visual and textual effect. The overall lightness of the dish left me wanting to eat more, but never bloated. The fried egg aioli left the creamy sensation of a Caesar dressing, while never feeling like too much. For the blue prawns, the "barbeque sauce" they use is something you won't be able to get anywhere else in the South. It's a Brazilian style of sauce that I have a hard time putting my finger on, but its an overall a joy. Im certain the fennel makes up a bulk of the flavor in this dish, and it blends well with everything offered. T The prawns were fresh, full of shrimp flavor in their heads, and blend well with that sauce. The Whole Octopus was underwhelming. Ive had better and expected better. Texture is OK, but its not mind blowing. Not even close to any octopus Ive had in New York, specifically Jung-Sik or Taverna Kyclades. The suction cups weren't as crispy as they should have been, and the end pieces were a bit dried out from the grilling. The center cuts of the tentacles had some tenderness, but there was still some chew that made me wonder if these could have used a little more manipulation. While there were bites that did have a good charred taste, and there were bits where the octopus did stand out, this should have been a small plate. I don't know if the head chef oversaw the preparation of this meal or not, but his reputation of cooking octopus doesn't seem all that great to me. This dish is actually quite filling, so don't be surprised if you get full by the end of this. The dish does get cold after 15 minutes, so if you plan on sharing other items, then Id say eat this quick or have the staff space this out. The Picahne is good, but not as good as I was hoping. For being wagyu, cooked medium rare, I was left longing for a beefier flavor. Not sure what the exact reason for how it turned out, but it left me a little empty inside. The greens they had under the steak is a great addition to this meal. They do a little overboard with the mustard seeds, but I could see how with everything else, the mustard seed cuts through the fat and bordelaise sauce. The yucca and coconut cake was underwhelming in flavor, but I also recognize that this was geared towards being a lightly sweetened dish. This probably goes great with coffee or tea with how mild it comes out. The presentation is beautiful in its plating. The sables were the best part texture wise. The coconut anglaise had the most flavor, even if it was dialed down. read more

Definitely lives up to the hype. The inside, as well as the patio, are beautiful. We each started with a cocktail, both fresh and herby, not overly sweet like most places. We started with the daily bread, oysters, and bluefin tuna belly. The daily bread is a must-get, the marbled butter and olive oil and saba are great but the peppers with catupiry cheese are the standout. I wouldn't think it would work, my husband who hates peppers even loved it. The oysters are balanced, the gooseberries are a unique take. The tuna belly, was balanced and each bite a little different. For our main meal, we had a bottle of orange wine from the waiter's recommendation, we were unfamiliar with it, but it did go great with our meal. We had the duck tagliatelle and blue prawn moqueca. Both were so good we couldn't decide which we liked more. The meatballs were tender and so flavorful. The broth in the moqueca was deep and rich and the sweetness of the plantains was a perfect mix. I have only two small complaints here was a lot of chives on everything and the moqueca needed more plantains. Service was great, good covid protocols, great night out, will be back. read more

We shared the cappelletti pasta filled with burrata with tomato water - one of my favorite bites. I enjoyed the octopus and my husband had the pork rack also filled with amazing flavor. My only suggestion is I enjoyed the octopus with the grilled peaches and ramp kimchi in the pork dish it was an incredible bite and I paired it with the purslane & garden salad a great pairing. A hidden restaurant with so many good things to say about it. I knew The Village had a lot of good eats in the area but never got around to visit the area. Luckily my husband made reservations here for my birthday. They offer a rotating 4-course meal or you can order a la carte at the bar. My recommendation would be to enjoy the 4-course meal ($73 per person) because it's a great experience that is unique. Our server, Michael, was great and super knowledgeable about the menu. I am assuming most if not all the servers are as well by the way he described how their rotating menus work. My husband and I purposely ordered different menus off their set 4-course menu to try more things at once. Because it is a full course menu, expect smaller portions, that way you can enjoy the entire course without feeling overtly full. Everything I ordered was absolutely divine and I am not exaggerating. Super flavorful and me just talking about my experience has be wanting to come back. Everyone starts off with a daily bread course, ours was a savory mushroom biroche followed by your choice of appetizer. My favorites of the night would be the Skate Moqueca and my husband's dessert, the Pavlova. An open concept kitchen where you get to the see the chef expedite as well as place the final touches on the plate. I enjoyed my experience and highly recommend for anyone who wants to try Brazilian food with a twist but also enjoy their dining experience as well. Definitely worth it for date night or when guests are in town. The cool part about their menu? When you come back, likely it'll be a different menu so you get a new/neat experience each time. The downside to that would be if you love something so much, it might be not there the next time you visit because it's a completely new menu. We can't wait to come back! read more

The only item I didn't care for was the gluten-free tapioca flour cheese puffs served along with her meal -- too gluey for me. Cocktails were fantastic. The service was excellent. The servers knew the menu and changed out the flatware between each course. Love that! The only issue I had with the ambience was the noise level. "You should've made your reservation sooner" was all they had to say about that. Apparently the noisy drunks are their preferred customers. Don't think we'll be retuning. Another point of contention, we asked before arriving if there was a dress code and the response was "polished casual". We dressed accordingly but the hostesses were anything but. Their sloppy appearance made a bad first impression and their comment that we should've made our reservation sooner made a bad final impression. Meridian, and particularly the culinary talents of Chef Junior Borges, were highly recommended to us by fellow contemporary Misti Norris of Peta & The Beast, as well as the stellar team at Rye, both establishments my wife and I adore and visit each time we come into Dallas for a weekend getaway. We came to Meridian for the first time this weekend and left having experienced a wonderful array of dishes, all of which were presented and explained by some of the most attentive and genial staff we've ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Every element of the food we ate was immaculately crafted and not a single ingredient tasted too rich, too sweet or too potent. A marriage of flavors in every bite. I could not recommend this establishment more, and my wife and I will surely be back to visit again soon. read more

We came a week after they opened with our other foodie friends and we were all blown away. Having spent extensive time in Brazilian for both school and work, my expectations were high and Chef Borges exceeded them. The bread that was highly advertised is delicious with various spreads to enjoy with it (my favorite was the ricotta). With a group of 8 and a shared plate set up, we were able to try about 15 different dishes. All were delicious but the top favorites amongst the table were the Picanha (maybe the best I've ever had), the grilled octopus, and the mushrooms. The fluke tartar is unlike any dish I've had before and like a hug in a bite. The service was impeccable, striking the delicate balance between friendly and extremely professional. Jazmin, our server, was a delight. Do not skip dessert. The yucca and coconut cake is to die for. One small area of improvement was the cocktails. While they're beautiful, the taste wasn't all there. Their wine program more than made up for it though. By the end of the night, the entire table was in agreement that this is a restaurant to watch. read more

Fun food in a pleasant setting. The cooking is very middle of the road, but it would be an entirely fine spot for a date. Burger is small. 3.5 stars. read more

This is my second time here with different menu changes but still I was not satisfied. The ambiance makes it nice but if doesn't outweigh the price you vs the quality. Maybe in the future I'll give it a shot. I recommend coming for some appetizers first before you spend somewhere around $200. My biggest complaint was waiting 1.2hrs for our main dish. read more
