First time at Meridian. They seemed a bit on the short staffed side but never the less Morgan was very attentive and professional. Beyond that we were very disappointed by the food. The grouper with tomato sauce and large shrimp was very strange tasting. Too many flavors that didn't pair well. The snapper was average. It was slightly better than the grouper but it was also a bit gamey. The homemade focaccia bread.was very good and they didn't skimp on the alcohol. The atmosphere was quiet and it was v clean. We just weren't impressed.

Tomato, mozzarella, and basil. Light crust! Tons of flavor!

I was house/dog sitting in the area, so I walked into town to find something light to eat for supper. The smell of the restaurant is what pulled me in! My bartender hooked me up with the main menu and Tapas menu. After much deliberation, the lady in the booth next to me said to go with the pizza. So glad I did! It was perfect! I was full, but not uncomfortable! And, I did not have to carry leftovers back to the house. I must point out, the very first thing my bartender Matthew did, while he was greeting me, was hand me a glass of cold ice water!!! He knew every detail of the Menu! He really was a Class Act!!! A true Diamond among bartenders!!

Visiting Winston-Salem and was taken here by locals. One of the better meals I've enjoyed in a long time. Started with the Stinkin Filthy Martini - delish! Table shared fried oysters, spinach salad and Bibb salad - all had wonderful flavors, good portions and arrived at a perfectly staggered pace. For entrees - our group covered land & sea: Lobster Risotto, NY Strip, Duck and dry rubbed Antelope - OMG. Each one of us LOVED the food. Specifically I enjoyed the duck prepared three ways paired with sweet potatoes to die for! You will go once and definitely keep it in your bi-weekly options. A must try!

Every now and then I will eat out and ask myself, why don't I eat at this place more often and why have I not reviewed this place before? Meridian Restaurant definitely fits this bill. My wife and I had a lovely meal at this sadly empty restaurant last Thursday. We began with two very good cocktails, a Boulevardier and a Nor'Easter. Although the appetizer list looked delicious, we wanted to be sure to save room for dessert so I just had the bibb salad. I don't generally like to have my salads dressed for me, but in this case it worked out well. For our entrees we got two favorites. My wife had shrimp and grits upgraded with some NC grouper. Everything was cooked perfectly. I had the NY strip steak au poivre with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. I prefer a creamy au poivre, but the cognac sauce on this one was just fine. Steak was thick, peppery, and a perfect medium rare. Dessert was a great way to conclude our meal. My wife had a pots de creme and I had the bread pudding. These are two of our favorite desserts and Meridian's version did not disappoint. The bread pudding avoided the sins of dryness and excessive sweetness that I find in many restaurants. The bread pudding had just a hint of anisette which was revelatory. Chef/Owner Mark Grohman definitely knows what he is doing in the kitchen. The reduced staff was attentive but not overbearing. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great, semi-open kitchen with plenty of windows and muted lighting inside. I have neglected Meridian in the past, but I am definitely looking forward to going back sooner rather than later.

What a great spot! They would've gotten a 5 star but they were out of two items for two dishes. But let me tell you, MATT the bartender, GIVE HIM A RAISE! He was very welcoming and he recommended everything and they were top tier. All the items were delicious & delivered! Service was great & the food/drinks were amazing. It was a quiet night here but it was perfect for me to just enjoy the night and listen to the music and speak with Matt. Short review but I will definitely be back.

One of the more higher end restaurants in Winston, Meridian is in the downtown area not far from the main drag. Excited to finally try this place. Again with COVID not as busy as it probably would be in a Thursday night, but that gave us full range of where to sit. We chose the bar as no one else was there. A great drinks and wine menu. Not just 2 Pinot noirs but 7 to pick from ! I got the Tempranillo and my friend got one of the Pinot noirs. Great full bodied reds. We tried the chorizo & patatas with aioli as an appetizer. The chorizo was awesome, great Smokey taste, great combo with the potatoes, nice seasoning, not too much paprika . Loved this. Oh and they give you some of the best bread I've ever had , had to get a second round! We split the seared sea scallops entree, which they will plate separately also for you, comes with risotto which had in it spinach, house made pancetta , pumpkin and shaved manchego . This came out looking beautifully plated. And the perfect amount . It was a great dish, the scallops were seared well, the risotto was so good too, loved all the components, the spinach, pumpkin, there was some sun dried tomato too. Complemented the scallops perfectly. Risotto had a little sauce so wasn't dry either. Great entree, makes me want to come back for more. Rounded off the meal with the French apple cake, with caramel and chantilly. Again great presentation . The cake was delicious, moist, good chunks of apple, the caramel went well with it and the chantilly was good and creamy. Great to share too. Meridian did not disappoint. Nice classy place, good service, nice setting and location. Highly recommended a visit here. Soon! On my favorites list .

Feelin fancy? Meridian is a great dinner choice for a special occasion! The French onion soup was delish and the NY strip steak was amazing. I usually am a filet girl but glad I went with this. The spice seasoning was perfect and that little potato waffle thing crispy and tasty. I also got pumpkin spice bread pudding for dessert and it is Not pictured because it was so dang perfect! Full disclosure I was here for a meeting and we had a set menu. I had a good experience with service and was pleased with the options we could choose from

i don't understand the 3.5 stars. This is one of best restaurants in North Carolina, and over the years the best in Winston Salem. The menu is relatively short but varies from day to day. The soup of the day is always masterful, the salads fresh and abundant, the other appetizers (including the never over cooked calamari) just right. The beef is all sustainably sourced. The Italian inspired dishes are like those in Tuscany. And the service is attentive, never too heavy or too light. As for the not-too-sweet desserts: one is always just right for two. How this adds up to 3.5 is beyond me

The atmosphere was warm, sophisticated, and causal all at the same time. The dim lights created a nice ambiance without being so dark that you can't see. I tried the Moravian cookie-pecan crusted salmon with collard greens, zucchini. The meal was a nice size and tasted amazing. I ate every bite. For dessert, we tried the White chocolate-almond bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream. I'm usually not a bread pudding kinda girl, but this was the exception. Let me say from my last review everything else at this place is still on the pricier side especially the drinks. We started with a lemon drop martini for my friend and I tried the sage and salt spritz. Both excellent. Loved the light refreshing spritz. Then on Elena's recommendation we tried the Bloody Mary gazpacho which was soup of the day. Wow. I could have eaten this bowl and maybe another. Chunky veggies, celery, cucumber, onions and tomatoes and in a tomato base with that hint of Bloody Mary spice. Delicious. The bread service was also great loved the whole grain. Then the oysters. We had a dozen and they went down well. Love how they present these. All the trimmings. Perfect warm evening dinner outside. The patio here is the best. Not sure why so many people were sitting inside on a perfectly sunny warm evening and hardly anyone sat outside. Beats me. Elena then told us about the free bread service refill so yes we jumped on that and a order of their double battered fries which are super crunchy and hit the spot. My friend also tried the spritz as she liked mine. Ended with an espresso martini and I have to say it was ok . For $21 and hardly any foam I've had better in town. We also tried the in house made raspberry Bundt cake with vanilla cream and this also was just ok. Little dry and hard to cut into. Was expecting softer cake. Not what I was hoping it to be. The raspberry sauce was good though. I would maybe try something else. They have some other nice choices for desserts. Had a great night here otherwise. Will most definitely be back for those oysters. Thanks Elena for such great service and a wonderful girls night!

(3/5) Village Tavern…read moreon Reynolda Road left me with two very different impressions: an excellent kitchen and a disappointing front-of-house experience. Let's start with the food. I ordered the meatloaf, and quite honestly, it exceeded my expectations. Meatloaf is one of those dishes that is often average at best in most restaurants, but this version was exceptionally well executed. It was moist, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. The green beans were equally impressive--fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. I was not expecting the meal to be nearly as good as it was, and credit is absolutely due to the kitchen staff. The food alone was worthy of a return visit. Unfortunately, the dining experience itself told a different story. From the moment we sat at the bar, the atmosphere felt tense and chaotic. Employees appeared visibly frustrated, and there was frequent yelling behind the bar throughout the evening. Rather than creating an inviting environment, the service area felt disorganized and stressful. Our appetizer sat under a heat lamp for approximately 20 minutes before being served. Service from our bartender/server, Lashawn, was equally disappointing. When we requested a refill, she rolled her eyes and appeared irritated by the request. Plates were dropped onto the bar rather than placed down, and our check was tossed down in a manner that felt dismissive and unprofessional. I also observed a soda gun being stored in the ice bin behind the bar, which raised concerns regarding sanitation practices. The frustrating part is that the kitchen is clearly doing outstanding work. The meatloaf was one of the better restaurant versions I've had in quite some time, and the vegetables were excellent. However, great food can only carry an experience so far when the service and atmosphere leave guests feeling unwelcome. Food: 5/5 Service: 1/5 Atmosphere: 1/5 Overall: 3/5

The front door had no signage...like a house door. I got (2) orders for Blackened chicken with Alfredo pasta($22ea) and a cheeseburger w/fries($18). We did receive a generous portion of pasta but not a lot of chicken. Normally, the blackened chicken is sliced place on top of pasta at most places, but this was mixed in and the result was a loss of the blackened flavor in my opinion. Side Note: These dishes were served with no bread. Come on, it's an Italian meal. As for the burger w/ fries($18), it was large burger but the fry portion was small for the price. It was good...not five guys which is the standard for a fresh burger these days. Again, in my humble opinion, I could not tell if it was a freshly made patty or frozen one. I sort of leaned to frozen but not totally sure. The staff greeted me warmly, and they were fast but very polite. For $75 dollars total, it might be a little overpriced by $10, but to be fair since Covid, everything is high. Higher income people frequent this area of town. So, I get it! Location! Location! Location! Next time, we may dine-in. Maybe bread comes with this meal at the table. My 4 out of 5 star review was given based on the exterior, staff, no bread, small portion of chicken mix in with pasta, small portion of fries, and the pricey burger.

First, the hospitality is top notch. Located in a historic home that sits in the National Register of Historic Places, the restaurant has a classic feel that is well accompanied by a very polite, welcoming staff. We also ordered a delicious Caesar salad to spit. Both were so good I didn't get a chance to take a picture before we started eating. For our main course, my daughter ordered the braised pork shank from the regular menu and loved it. The pork itself was ridiculously fork-tender and the candied cabbage was an incredible sweet counterbalance to the savory sauce. Easily a 9/10 dish. For me, I ordered the Duck, which was perfectly cooked (rare), a great sear, and seasoned incredibly. I was torn on whether the star of the dish was the duck or the accompanying Brussel sprouts. Regardless, a very solid 8/10. The restaurant was very kind to gift us dessert for our special occasion. I had a very happy 10 year old when she saw the dessert plate arrive. I wish the red cabbage was plated with the meal (it came on the side in a bowl), but otherwise, it was a splendid meal. It also made for great leftovers the next day! The blueberry limoncello crisp had such a good flavor combo! The lemon was on the more sour side, but I still liked it. The sweet cream is chef's kiss! The service was very friendly!! Our waitress was kind, and she checked in at good intervals. There were some weird changes in lighting throughout the meal. We wish the lighting had stayed dimmed in the room we were in, but it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, a great place and a great meal for a date night! My husband and I had a lovely time.

The highlight of the evening was General Manager Maya, who made us feel incredibly special. She expertly guided us through the wine-by-the-glass list and helped us discover some truly fantastic selections. Her hospitality elevated an already wonderful experience. We can't wait to come back!

I got to visit last weekend and experience their lunch menu. I've been hearing good things about this place but the menu looked simple so I was hesitant. Well it's easy to say I was very wrong about being iffy when it comes to what we were served. When we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly host who put us at a window seat which was really nice. I love having a view with my meal. The space is also very reminiscent of fine dining with the white table cloths, candles, and flowers on the table. It's also worth saying they have several lunch specials aside from what's on their regular lunch menu. Our server was also a very friendly gentleman who gave great recs when we asked. My friend got the French onion dumplings and she LOVED them. I got the brussel sprouts and with the accompaniment of the goat cheese and dried cranberries, they were probably the best I've ever had. I almost ate all of the huge bowl. I got the chicken sandwich for my meal that was dipped in a hot honey like sauce and it was also great. Very juicy and the ranch I got on the side was a great addition. I also got the truffle fries and they were super yummy. Overall an excellent experience and I'm so excited to come back and try their dinner menu. A must if you're in the Kernersville area!

I sat upstairs as there is only a bar downstairs and it was full. It was a Thursday so they had $.50 wings. They offer various flavors and order sizes for the wings so I went with the 8 piece lemon pepper buffalo. I also had the Henny Island cocktail and mac n cheese and fried okra for sides. I will be a return customer! FYI picture of food was taken after I started eating some of the mac n cheese lol

I had the dark meat fried chicken with collard greens, a fresh side salad, and mac & cheese that was honestly unforgettable. The chicken was fried to perfection -- crispy, crunchy skin that stayed put and juicy meat inside. The collards were seasoned just right, the salad was super fresh, and yes, the ranch passed the Midwest test. The mac & cheese was the real standout -- that perfect mix of creamy and baked that makes you want to order a second serving. On top of the food, the service was impeccable -- attentive without being pushy, and they never let an empty plate linger on the table. The whole experience felt elevated and stylish while still keeping the food soulful and comforting. If you love soul food (or even if you're just curious), you have to try this spot.
