Always a great place to grab a quick bite, my husband and I come here often. I love their brick oven pizza and dark espresso martinis

First of all this not a review if the food, we have eaten there many times and it was always very good. This is about ineptitude and rudeness of the hostess and manager. We were a party of 8 and since they do not take reservations the hostess told us it would be about a 20 minute wait which was fine with us. Tables started to become available so we asked if 2 of them could be put together and was told no. They would not have impeded access to emergency exits. Forty-five minutes passed and we asked the hostess again and she said someone cancelled reservation. Mind you 4 of us were right in feont of her the whole time!! We requested a manager who told us they could not put the tables together with no explaination as to why not. After another 45 minutes my husband and I deciced to leave but the rest of the stayed and when they asked how much longer she said she thought we all left! Mind you some of the party remained sitting in front of the hostess. They were told they were taken off the list again! Front end workers are the face of a business and first impressions matter. These workers do not make a good impression. Despite the good foof, we will not be going back. Also the website says they take reservations but when we called they said they did not! read more

This is becoming a favorite since they reopened. I'm a bit disappointed that the Portuguese soup has been deluged the last few weeks less flavor and stock . Hope they don't go back to their old ways on inconsistent quality. It would be a shame. read more

I've been here a few times now and would highly recommend trying Mesa 21. The best items I've had on the menu are the pizza and the shrimp mozambique. Also worth trying are the clams app and the pork chops. I'd recommend the house steak over the Sirloin since the last time I had the Sirloin it was excessively charred. Great spot in Fall River. Keep in mind, it's usually worth calling ahead to see if there's a wait or belly up at the bar and have a drink. read more

Love this place. Go there often and love the experience every time I go in. Tonight, I was deeply disappointed. My girlfriend and I came in 40 minutes before closing asking for a table for 2. We were told the kitchen was closed (which we knew not to be true because we've been there 20 minutes before closed and have been seated). We always tip very well because we usually are the last minute tables because of our busy day. So, knowing what I know I called in for a takeout order less than 5 minutes later and was able to put something in. When I told the employee on the phone why was I denied a table but I can order takeout? She didn't seem to know what to say and made up something to save her coworker (understandable). I'm writing a Karen review because We were pissed we couldn't get their fantastic food because someone thought we were going to hold them up from going home early. This visit was first time in many years. They had a fire so place looks quite different. Nice. More sophisticated than previous visit. Unfortunately. I can no longer imbibe in anything spicy so I go for the least offensive. There were 3 of us, no one really hungry. All got the same: tacos. Really good tacos. It was Taco Tuesday, our good fortune, $2.00 Tacos. The steak & fish were excellent. Chicken? Didn't care for it as the chicken used was the crunchy kind. Presentation, even tho these were "just" tacos, very appetizing. They also offer pork but none of us had that one. Probably good too. The only thing was parking. If u go during a hi serving time, you may have to walk. Hear the pizza is good. Prices fair altho I confess, $10 for meatball app seems a bit much. Didn't check wine or beer list. We went to mesa on Saturday night. The place was packed and they told us 45 minutes for a table. Luckily we knew some people sitting at the bar who were getting ready to leave so we had squatter's rights! The place is small but really nice and cozy. not like most Fall River tacky decor Portuguese restaurants, but more like a Mediterranean bistro/cafe. The bartender, Nikki was excellent. She makes great margaritas! We ordered a small wood grilled pizza with prosciutto and pineapple as an appetizer. It was huge and delicious (for $12) . We ended up not ordering any entrees but the menu looked great with a lot of Portuguese selections and very affordable prices. Looking around I would say the portions are very generous and people seemed really happy. We will definitely return and try other menu options. read more

Well it feels good to be back. I really missed this place. The building looks wonderful. The food is still amazing i still recommend the pork and clams! We also had the shrimp Mozambique app very good and also the buffalo chicken pizza everything was delicious. They are not accepting reservations and it was busy on a friday night but i noticed there were alot of empty tables and people were not being seated. The hostess quoted us a wait time of an hour and we were seated in 20 minutes. Food came out fast. I was standing near hostess booth and it seemed every time a new party walked in she would add a half hour to wait time expected which deterrered alot of people especially when quoted a 2hour wait time. The people who stuck it out like myself were seated way faster than that. Dont let long wait time deter you. Didn't seem accurate. Cant wait to be back. read more

Service here was horrible the day i went in, it was my third time and i was very disappointed! And i love their food!

Placed an order for 2 pizza's with a 40 minute wait time for take out. Got the pizza's home and it was completely raw dough in the middle, cooked somewhat on the edges but the dough was so undercooked it was stuck to the box and we weren't able to even lift a full slice in one piece without it breaking apart. I never leave yelp reviews nevermind a negative one, but this was unacceptable. We gave them another chance after ordering from here last time and finding a hair in my food. This is minor but the topping was also off from what we ordered. Never again! read more

The Caesar Salad was very tasty and served cold. The crispy Chicken Sandwich was delicious and served hot along with the house made fries. The staff was pleasant and available but did not hover. Great atmosphere. I stopped in for an early dinner and wasn't disappointed. I got the "build your own salad". It was wonderful. Very nice seating. It was also very busy but there wasn't a wait. It was kind of loud but like I said it was busy and there is also a bar. Overall a great experience and I will be right back. So a quick update to my review. I've been here several times since. Food is still good. The Portuguese steak pizza I didn't really like but it's not horrible. But the service on my last visit. When asked if I wanted dessert, I said no. And the woman replied with "you guys ate so much." If one slice of pizza and a split app is a lot. Then I guess so. But I consider this comment rude when on a date. Definitely made my gf feel bad. I always get food to take home. Next time take a look at the food before commenting on your patrons eating habits. And on a day when shellfish is the special. Don't carry boxes in the same clothes you wear into the dining area. Wear an apron you can take off. You dragged the seafood smell around with you. Sad service day. read more

This restaurant really needs to train their staff on customer service... first time I went food was ok, staff horrible, gave them another chance and I Unfortunately got the same waitress ALEX... apparently she still hasn't been trained on how to deal with paying customers... Rude and ignored our table altogether, after waiting 20 minutes for a menu, I kindly asked her for it. She raised her pointer finger at me and told me with a nasty look to wait. My wife called in to place an order for take out and she was literally told that the kitchen is "to busy to take orders" When we asked to speak to the manager, we were told the manager wouldn't come to the phone, which is probably a lie. Apparently my business wasn't good enough. I don't understand how they could be so busy during a global pandemic when the capacity is already limited. Just pure laziness. Had this on the list for a while and finally got to visit. Walking in the decor and atmosphere was great. We were greeted right away and were able to sit wherever we wanted. There was a mix of tables and the bar area was really nice and good size. I got the pick your own salad and my wife got the Mesa Steak. The salad ingredients were fresh and tasty and my wife said the steak was cooked perfectly to her request and the sauce and fries were excellent. We have definitely found a new go to restaurant in the area. read more

I don't understand what the hype was about because we didn't have good meals or good service. On a Thursday night it was very busy, so I'll give her some slack on that. We were told the bread would be right over and it never came. I had to ask about it when our meals came. The house fries were so mushy and neither one of us like them like that. She didn't hear that we wanted ketchup because she walked away so quickly. The mango punch drink was so disgusting! $10.50 for a drink that tasted like cough syrup. Even my husband said it was nasty. I asked her to take it off of the bill since she never came around much to check in. She asked once how our food was. The shrimp Mozambique was such a disappointment. I was told it was good from a friend. Listen if it's known for Portuguese food here you'd expect a big plate of shrimp. Instead it was half rice and soggy fries. Our waitress like I said was busy, but her attitude wasn't pleasant. Maybe she was tired who knows. My husband was told that the Mesa steak was good, but it had NO FLAVOR. We both agreed on that. Started with a cup of Portuguese Soup. I had to send is back because it was cold and only had broth and Kale in it. The waitress brought me a bowl instead of a cup but it was still flavorless. I had to add hot sauce to get any flavor whatsoever. Although the pizza tastes okay, the crust is undercooked. I expected better. My fiancé got the buck a shuck and enjoyed it. So terrible. Placed an order for delivery during Covid. Placed my order at 4:55 for a delivery time at 6:00.At 6:45 Mesa called me to ask the temperature of my meat. Our meal was delivered at 7:20. It was terrible. My husband ordered a turkey club which was awful. They must have run out of lettuce because they substituted it with spinach leaves. Come early because they don't take reservations & theres is a very small waiting area. The food is great, especially the bread and dipping sauce! For takeout... I called ahead and when I got there there was a lot of shuffling me around to find my order. The bartender was very busy, but also very rude. They could definitely benefit from having another bartender on, because she lacked customer service because of how busy she was. There isn't a specified area to wait for takeout either, it's by the bar in a very crowded area. Overall, I will think about coming back for a sit down meal, but they need to re think their takeout/bar area. read more

The new Mesa 21 is upscale, chic, trendy and modern. The menu is simple, and classic Portuguese. The food we got was more than enough! We had to not only box our appetizer but our main course too and overall, the food was great. We have no complaints and will definitely be back for dinner and drinks one night! LOUSY! We went on a Monday night. There were two waitresses on and only a handful of tables occupied, yet we received bad service. We ordered steamed littlenecks and they were delivered -- WITH A METAL BOLT in the plate. When we complained, they didn't offer to get us a new one. Our main course was a pizza that was raw. In the background, all we could hear was a shouting match between the bartender and one of the waitresses, both swearing like sailors. Going back? Uh, I don't think so. read more

Well here it finally is! Mesa has been reopened! We stopped by on a Tuesday night, hoping really, that nothing had changed. But it has. The new buildout is awesome. It is clean, simple and unpretentious. Our server Mel, was attentive, smart and pleasant. Just a really nice person who did an excellent job. We started with steamed quahogs with chourico. The Syrian bread that came with them was fresh and the clams were done to perfection. As it was $2.00 taco night, we ordered one cod taco, just to try them. IT WAS THE BEST TACO I HAVE EVER EATEN! Served in a crispy, warm tortilla, the fish chunks were fresh and lightly seasoned. And of course we ordered Margarita pizza from their famous brick fired oven and it was awesome. So this wonderful gem of a place did change. It is even better than before. However I am told that it is no longer advisable to show up and expect a table. The wait on a Friday or Saturday can be up to 45 minutes. So I guess absence did make our hearts grow fonder. Welcome back Mesa 21! You have been missed! read more

Let me start first by saying the waitress and the manager were EXCELLENT. They were so, so nice. Had the food been better, we would be back to try something else on the menu. Unfortunately, whoever created the menu needs a wake-up call. I ordered the lobster roll and my boyfriend ordered the portuguese steak. The lobster roll was $15 and came out on a HOT DOG BUN. I thought it was a joke, it literally looked like a kids meal. No way were we paying $15 for that when I could go to the 99 for a much BIGGER lobster roll for that price. My boyfriend's portuguese steak was also very small, and came out BROWN when he asked for it medium/really pink. The manager told him that because of how thin they make the portuguese steak, they really can't cook it any way except well-done... well then whoever's cooking it doesn't know how to cook. The restaurant itself is beautiful, I can tell they're going for a 5-star feel... but don't give us the 5-star serving sizes! We don't go out to eat in Fall River just to go home hungry! If we want the expensive food that's the size of your palm, we'll make the trek up to Boston for that, not our hometown! We ended up leaving to go somewhere else and the manager and waitress were extremely kind and understanding with our decision (it seems they get this a lot). The manager even took the beers off our check so we didn't owe them a dime, but we still left a tip for the waitress for the time she spent with us and her professionalism. read more
