Prosecco (served warm) + mezcal cocktail with sprinkles on the side

Service 5 stars / Food 3 stars / Drinks 1 star We came to Metate Cabo after seeing their Michelin recognition and really wanted to love it. The service was genuinely excellent -- warm, attentive, and everyone tried very hard to create a great experience. The atmosphere is also super cute with great music, rustic tapestry charm, and live sax throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the food and drinks just missed the mark for us. Every cocktail we ordered was overly sweet despite being told no sweetener was used. One even came with sprinkles on the side. The rustic salad was okay overall, but again very sweet between the dressing and lychee. The grilled octopus was honestly one of the worst we've had -- served cold despite being charcoal grilled, very gummy texture, and sitting on an overly sugary date puree that tasted like straight brown sugar. The tacos were definitely the highlight (especially the steak taco), and the veggies/tortillas were fine. Other tables seemed to really enjoy dishes like the ceviche, corn, and short rib, so maybe we simply ordered wrong. But overall we left feeling like we'd consumed a pound of sugar and probably wouldn't return.

After a long day of travel, we were very happy to land a table at Metate. The maître d' seemed concerned when we didn't have a reservation, but still found us a table. It felt a bit like a show, especially since it was early. We were glad to sit in the beautiful courtyard and enjoy the tropical breeze. We ordered the guacamole, elote, and salad, and everything was amazing. They don't have a kids' menu, so my son tried the blackened fish tacos. The charred flavor was a bit mature for him, but he was hungry, and the popcorn ice cream afterward helped. Metate offers excellent service, gorgeous surroundings, and American prices!

Metate was one of the best dining experiences we have had in Cabo! I love Metate. The ambience, the service, the food, the drinks. Everything from beginning to end was absolutely incredible. This restaurant is definitely worthy of its Michelin guide recommendation! Service here runs smoothly, efficiently, and with kindness and grace. The wine list is fantastic, especially if you are looking to try more Mexican wines like we were. And the cocktails are divine. I loved my passionfruit margarita. Everything we ordered for dinner was almost perfectly executed. From the baja tacos to start, to our entrees of seafood risotto and steak, to the dessert. We loved every. single. bite. All of it! The space itself is gorgeous. It's tucked away on a sandy street off the main highway, and you enter into this beautiful oasis with large light-filled trees. It's a spacious restaurant and bar, and there was lovely live music that was just the right level so we could still enjoy our conversation. I highly recommend making a reservation for Metate when you are in Cabo San Lucas. I cannot wait to go back!!

Beautiful ambiance, delicious food and excellent service! From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were taken into this beautiful outdoor space. The little details and the exceptional service were something special! We ordered the short rib, filet, and the fish dish. The flavors were seasoned perfectly and bursted in our mouths. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted delicious! Even my picky teenager cleaned up her plate! That really speak volumes. The services provided by Joel and his team were perfect for a great dinner outside of the resort. We will definitely be back when we are in Cabo.

Beautiful ambiance and loved the saxophonist. Popcorn ice cream was fun! Loved the guacamole and short rib tacos.

My friend is a Michelin star whore..... If she sees a place rated by the aforementioned ...she has to go. And you know what....she was right. We did the Metate cooking dinner...and while you dont cook everything. It was a blast. We made cocktails, Tortillas, empanadas, and Ceviche For $75 it was a fun evening. I would come back.

Let's just start with how beautiful this restaurant is. The open air layout is so pretty with so many plants. The bathrooms were nice (compared to most restrooms in Mexico) just a bit dim. My favorite dish was definitely the blue corn ice cream but almost everything we had was great. Our favorite taco was the beef short rib taco. This was one of the best birthday experiences ever. I recommend going for lunch. If you want more personable experience there's a lot less people.

Had a bachelorette trip in Cabo San Lucas and this was an amazing pick by our planner. She reserved this place ahead of time and it was amazing. The vibes and ambiance were pleasing. There was live music and it was very spacious! Food was really good I enjoyed every single dish! Service was great as well. I would 100% recommend.

I was in Cabo San Lucas for vacation and thought I'd love to just relax and chill...and just treat myself for a good selfcare me time. I wasn't actually planning on fancy eating..but...once I came across Metate and knowing that it received a Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition..I knew I had to check it out! The restaurant environment was so great! From the outside..you wouldn't imagine a very well decored restaurant like Metate inside at all..but once you stepped inside the restaurant...it was very visually inviting and aesthetically pleasing..I guess..to go along with fine dining, too! I tried a few items from soda/mocktail drinks (guava mocktail) and appetizers (octopus tacos) to main course (sirloin tip) and dessert (paricutin chocolate molten cake) and thought the food was all aesthetically pleasing. The portion wasn't too big either, so you wouldn't feel so stuffed eating them! The only thing was..if I were to go there again, I would probably order items that were a little more Mexican-ish than just general food. While I thought the food was good..I would be ok missing the rustic salad and substituting it with some other things that sounded more mexican. The sirloin tip was good, too..but perhaps..maybe I thought I could also get good steak elsewhere and try actual mexican food there. Overall, great ambiance! The only downside was..service was on a slow side. Even when I went in mid-afternoon and there were just a few tables there...service/food prep/time they brought out the food was a miss. Nevertheless, the restaurant was so nice. They actually brought me extra mocktail and comped my dessert, too..so..they knew of how to make up great service and hospitality for sure. If you are around Cabo San Lucas and wanted some of the finer dining/tried some highly rated food in the area, definitely check out Metate (it's actually pronounced may-ta-tay...and not may-tade like my fobby sellf called that..until someone corrected me). The price point was very good, too! The whole full-course meal + drinks for me was just USD$75!!

Ambience, food and service were all amazing. It was our last dinner in Cabo and the most memorable one. Joel was our server and made incredible recommendations. 5 stars all around.

    Short Rib -really flavorful

For a restaurant that is tucked away on a dirt road off the main highway, there is Amazing Food and Service at this restaurant! The exterior of the restaurant doesn't look impressive, but totally different inside. Food was the best in Cabo! Service equally great. Thanks to Joe, his team and Dice ( the resident dog).

Wow this place is everything! Beautiful atmosphere, amazing food, outstanding service, and Dice the owners dog who checks in with diners. It's like a beautiful backyard oasis. We ordered everything that our server recommended and the standouts were the bone marrow tacos, the grilled octopus, the pibil pork shank, and the corn cakes. The mashed potatoes that came with the steak were the best I've ever had! But honestly everything was delicious. Definitely go and enjoy the Michelin rated restaurant.

Their recommendation to order the appetizer sampler was spot on--the fundido, quesadilla, empanadas, and sopes were all fantastic and perfect for sharing. The carnitas were unbelievably tender and full of flavor, while the sea bass had everyone at the table raving. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, dessert stole the show! The flan was silky smooth, the churros were warm and crispy, and the tres leches tequila cake was an absolute must-try. To top it all off, the cocktails were creative, beautifully presented, and just as delicious as the food. But that was the end of the positive things as a swarm of flies quickly came to eat the food. Trying to swat them away helped a bit but there was way too many of them. I eventually flagged a waiter down, and he shrugged at the flies. A minute later some candle flame thing came out saying that it will help with the flies but already that was too late as flies were all over the food and I lost my appetite at that point. It was disgusting. I just got up and left. Went to cashier to pay my bill. The cashier also shrugged at my fly incident, and I asked how much it was going to be. Full price. No consideration about bad operating environment and since they knew about the fly issue they didnt setup before food was served to control it better. Even after bringing it up again in detail, she shrugged again. No sorry or anything, just a brush off. Then to make it even worse she asked if I wanted to tip the service. I was in there for a few minutes, staff didnt help quickly or even pre-empt the fly issue, and I'm being asked to pay full price. Sorry but no thanks. How did this place get on the Michelin list? Service poor. Environment poor. Zero or negative star rating for me.
