Still a five star experience. My heart was delighted to see that Metate has flourished in such an exquisite way. The same farm to table, mi casa es Tú casa feels but with an upscale and refined ambiance. Victor, our server was extremely attentive throughout our lavish meal. We ordered all that he recommended and enjoyed every last bite. We started with a few stand out dishes such as the Burrata con molé Rosa, Tlayuda Metaté, and the guacamole con Chicano y queso Fresco. More than enough for the both of us, Moving on to the main course, we went with Victor's recommendation of the Pork shank ( Michoacano el Muchacho ) and the Picanha both incredible. As the dusk transitioned into a starry night, we finished with two creative postres, the Paricutin ( molten lava cake with blue corn ice cream ) and the Pan de Elote ( the softest corn cake imaginable) all amazingly delicious! Michelin rating well deserved. Bravo Chef Hector and staff. Metate is one of the best dining experiences in Cabo San Lucas. read more

long story short: a really special restaurant Metate is out of the way, 10 minutes away from the main part of San Lucas. That being said, it was absolutely worth the trek. Our waiters were wonderful & very patient as we asked tons of questions. The restaurant itself is beautiful; we sat outside & it was amazing to sit amongst the trees & breeze while enjoying dinner. Now for the food. We started with the tlayuda molera, which was admittedly not our favorite; we're not super familiar with mole, so I can't comment on its quality. We also got the baja tacos (the best fish tacos I've ever had), the tetela de chamorro (with the most incredibly sweet & sour sauce), & the rib taco (perfectly tender & flavorful, truly amazing). We finished the night with the paricutin cake which, like everything else, was delicious. This was our best meal in Cabo & I strongly advise everyone go when they're there! read more

We found this place off of TripAdvisor on our stay in Cabo. Getting here in our rental car was a bit confusing. Google maps was taking us to Costco and I had to ask a local where is this place. Once we got here, we parked outside where there was plenty of parking. We were so late for our reservation since we couldn't find it but was checked in and seated. Our waiters were extremely friendly helpful. They have kids menu for the kids but the kids wanted to eat the grilled octopus which they devoured. The thing that remembered the most was the bone marrow tacos. Sooooo goooddd. Must get. The kids ate my dinner so I opted to get the tacos and they gave my 4 bone marrows and it was so good with the steak. We had some mojitos and they were made on the sweet side but great just chilling there. I would recommend this place. Was a nice quiet place to chill. Spacious great food and friendly service!!! read more

I found this spot on the Michelin Guide and it did not disappoint. The indoor/outdoor seating was expertly arranged and we even had live music to enjoy while having dinner. My favorite dishes were the short rib tacos and the soft shell crab tacos. They were both so flavorful and the short rib was really tender. Our waiter was so attentive and gave us great recommendations. This is place I will definitely visit again the next time I am in Cabo. read more

Gorgeous restaurant with unique and fabulous upscale Mexican food. I would describe it as "new" Mexican. The ceviche was incredible, and we had two types of steak ( I can't recall the cuts ) but they were tender and delicious and prepared perfectly. Visiting Metate was one of the highlights on our vacation to Cabo San Lucas. read more

The food was excellent from start to finish. The fish was superb -- fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. We started with the burrata, which was creamy and delicious, and ended with fantastic desserts that were beautifully presented and even better to taste. The ambiance was super cute -- cozy, stylish, and very Instagram-worthy. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant is beautiful, there is a beautiful dog that wanders around, and...oh yeah, the food! The menu is extremely unique and creative mixing flavors I had never even thought of. We had no idea it had a Michelin rating. But wow! They earned it. Everything was delicious and interesting! We had the guacamole appetizer- perfect with the pork rinds- the cocktail a were delicious. Husband ordered the milk fed chicken- be ever Cornish game hen- skin was heavenly. I ordered the beef tacos- yummy! Mom ordered the beef dish- then the famous corn bread dessert. So good! read more

Massively cool ambiance. All seating is outside. Looks iffy from the outside but strongly recommend going inside. Music was mostly 80s, both Spanish and English rock. Food was fabulous. Only dish we didn't care about was the guacamole. It didn't really have a lot of flavor. All the others were very flavorful. Highly recommend the picanha. The rustic salad and the corn had amazing flavor. The ribs were tender and delicious. I would recommend several apps as the main dishes aren't very large. The service was very good. read more

Out of all the places we went in Cabo Metate was by far the most disappointing - and it was the only Michelin recommended spot we went to! The restaurant itself is beautiful. The outdoor vibes are gorgeous. They had a live musician and a cute dog. The vibes were immaculate. We ordered drinks and this is where it started going downhill. The server literally recommended I get a mango margarita then brought me a passion fruit margarita and tried to say I never ordered a mango! What? He literally gave me the recommendation. For starters we got the corn nobles and the ceviche. We noticed the ceviche came with more quesadillas than what was on the menu. We asked the server and he said that's just how it comes. The ceviche was very veggie dominant and had little fish. The corn was good but kinda weird. For entrees we got the steak and the pork. While overpriced, the steak was good. The pork was too dry to eat, even after pouring the sauce. Throughout the meal the server kept trying to force more drinks on us despite us telling him no repeatedly. Finally, we tried to order dessert. Apparently the dessert we selected would take 20 minutes to cook so the server told us we couldn't order it and we could only order ice cream. We were not warned that the kitchen was closing. It was also my friends birthday so this was a huge bummer. When we finally get the check I notice that the server has charged us for the extra quesadillas on the app that we specifically asked him about. So when he asks how much we want to tip I say 10%. He then proceeds to ask if we didn't like his service and why were not tipping more. I tell him it's because he didn't give us the dessert we ordered and he charged us for extra items on the bill that weren't on the menu. He said that's just how it works?? Totally ruined my friends bday. Will not be back. read more

Love Metate! Had dinner here a few times and they were a treat. Good service, nice setting once you step in and lots of fun things to look at. Food was great. Roast chicken, lamb shank and empanadas were all delightful. The open kitchen is fun to see in action and a bar under the stars is always fun. You don't have to head to downtown Cabo or SJD for really great food. Place is great for people in El Tezal! read more

I heard about this restaurant from somebody on the plane to Cabo. The ambiance is beautiful. The colors, place settings, and decor are worth the visit. The service is good. We were there for a late lunch. The restaurant was empty since we were there at an odd time. I am sure that the vibe is very lively at night. Our favorite dish was the shrimp and fish ceviche. Delicious. We also had the guacamole which comes with pork rinds and cheese. It was ok. We also had the pork tacos which were good, but a bit difficult to eat with how they are plated. The fish tacos are visually stunning, but I wouldn't order them again. The flan was good. Go for the ceviche and the visual beauty of the restaurant. read more

But that was the end of the positive things as a swarm of flies quickly came to eat the food. Trying to swat them away helped a bit but there was way too many of them. I eventually flagged a waiter down, and he shrugged at the flies. A minute later some candle flame thing came out saying that it will help with the flies but already that was too late as flies were all over the food and I lost my appetite at that point. It was disgusting. I just got up and left. Went to cashier to pay my bill. The cashier also shrugged at my fly incident, and I asked how much it was going to be. Full price. No consideration about bad operating environment and since they knew about the fly issue they didnt setup before food was served to control it better. Even after bringing it up again in detail, she shrugged again. No sorry or anything, just a brush off. Then to make it even worse she asked if I wanted to tip the service. I was in there for a few minutes, staff didnt help quickly or even pre-empt the fly issue, and I'm being asked to pay full price. Sorry but no thanks. How did this place get on the Michelin list? Service poor. Environment poor. Zero or negative star rating for me.

Bingo, it was. This tall (TALL!) flan was so rich and creamy and still light as a feather. and WOW, we thought the decoration on the plate was the plate itself, but it was decorative piping -- could've fooled me, the whole table marveled at the artistry. Just do yourself a favor and always order the flan - no matter how stuffed you are!

The moment I took my first bite, I knew this would be a regular stop if we're ever back in the area. The meat was tender, incredibly flavorful, and tasted fresh off the grill. Everything paired perfectly with the salsas and an ice-cold beer. Super glad we found this gem within walking distance of the pier, and this is one of those spots that'll stick with us long after our trip ended.

The treat here were the many flavors of Aqua Fresca and Horchatta. The horchata was the best one we had, very cinnamony. I had a pastor taco and a small steak quesadilla. There is some special cheese they use in mexican quesadillas that really turn me on. It's melty and chewier. But the pastor here was also excellent. We did have a very grumpy server. I think he was just covering for the regular gal while she was on break, but man, he was not happy about it.

Because it's a tourist trap, be prepared with some cash to tip the performers who go around table to table singing your song of choice. Tip is expected.
