This was my place in Florida. We came here many many times. This is my comfort place & I came here alone & I wanted to have comfort food. I was here in December a week before Christmas I came to see my father who is terminally ill. These are details to add up to a story - I recently had to leave Florida for a bit to stay in Texas. I come back practically every 4 months for either work or to see my dad. This is my place that I go when I need comfort food from the stress. So sad story aside, if you go here wanting to eat your feels - this is the place for that warm hug. The menu has evolved since it first opened - but I personally think it's gotten better. The last time I was here I had the most delicious thing - the Pulled Pork Mac Stack & I had to promptly send photos & video to my husband. It was delicious. Who came up with putting cornbread in a waffle iron with maple butter & pulled pork? I mean for real, that is like the biggest hug you could ever get! I had spent 5 hours with my dad, not eating properly & I was so happy - word can not express. We're due to come back either this month or next. The food is always delicious and portions sizes to match. However the service seems to be a hit a miss. You might get good food but not always great customer service. Did not get the name of host. But she did not know what was going on and did not care to assist in away necessary. I walked in to pick up a take out order, when I ask host for help with my order she said that there's no order for me here. I looked over to the carry out bin and notice one order that looked like it should be my order. I called in so I know I was at the right location and order with diner 20min prior to coming in. I asked another staff member for help and they assured me it was my order. I wanted to pay with a $20 bill, however it ripped in half during the payment process, and the server will not take my payment. It just added to amount of inconvenience I had to inherent, money is money and it wasn't my fault. I then paid with card. The host insisted on staring me down in a racist narcissistic way, as I am a person of color, I can feel the backlash she was giving me. She was cleaning menus or some sort and found it her nature to be very bitter towards me. I did not say much to her after she insisted on not helping me the first time out. I believe for a family establishment I would not have to go through this on a Friday afternoon. I'm not an angry person, for I know how to control myself emotions in that way, I ignored the host to De-escalate the situation. I suggest to do ongoing training and development on how to connect with guest and really encouraged for the team to learn to be more respectful despite differences. I pulled out my Yelp app, and on the search result came up Metro Diner. What? The Jacksonville Metro Diner? Yep, same one. I couldn't believe my luck. Of course, there is one and only one reason I go to Metro Diner: the chicken and waffles. So, I parked (still in awe), walked in, sat down, and asked "chicken and waffles?" Yes, we have it. Music to my hears. We ordered a few things, and everyone was happy with their order. I really enjoyed my meal. The waffles were so good, with the syrups, but my only quip was the chicken, which was a little bit overcooked. Not perfect like I know they make it at other locations. I still ate it, obviously, but it was not the same. It was clearly a case of wrong day, in my book. How important is chicken and waffles in a man's diet? My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to nourish our bodies after nourishing our souls with the word of the Lord on a beautiful Sunday morning. We came across a local spot by the name of Metro Diner. The parking lot was packed and the line was long; the big man upstairs said, "THOU SHALL NOT PASS" this establishment. Per usual, his words were truth. Although the diner was packed, the wait was brief, the service was great, and the food was served EXTREMELEY fast/simple while tasting delicious. Great service, great food. I have been wanting to try this spot for months. I was finally able to go with my sister when she was here on vacation. We went to Metro Diner on a Sunday for brunch and not only were we seated directly but the waitress was very quick to take in our orders. The other reviews are correct, wear loose fitting clothes when coming to Metro Diner...the portions are huge. My sister ordered the the 12 inch challenge..OMGOSH that pancake was huge and fluffy. It was so big we actually both ate a quarter of it. I ordered the chicken waffle.. I wasn't expecting it to be 4 pieces of fried chicken and 1 big waffle. The waffle was also very fluffy, the chicken was seasoned to perfection but what was more amazing was their maple syrup/hot sauce mix..I personally do not like anything spicy but this mixture was just right..Sweet, salty and spicy.. The service was excellent. Our waitress made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us continuously until we were ready to leave. We ordered and as we were waiting roaches were literally running under our feet. We told the manager. He said it was from the restaurant being sprayed yesterday. He apologized and comped our food. Stopped by for a very quick brunch with my husband. We both ordered a Spicy Honey Chicken Biscuit and were very impressed with it. The biscuit was fresh, soft and tasty, the spicy honey was perfectly sweet with a bit of savoury, and the chicken tender was seasoned and moist. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs with it, and my husband ordered a side of hash browns. The scrambled eggs tasted a bit starchy, like flour - so I did not finish them, but my husband enjoyed his hash browns. Service was great, food came out fast, very friendly and attentive. I've been to this location a couple of times and it's been great both times. The food is cooked fresh to order, and we can usually find space right away up at the bar, which gives you a great view of the open kitchen. They're very well staffed, get orders out quickly, are good at getting customizations right- really all you can ask for. I love coming here for brunch/breakfast and I'm sure I'll come here frequently. The menu is diverse and reasonably priced. Servings are big, and everything I've tried was done well. I came here New Year's Day by recommendation. My friends and I went to start the New Year with new food. The wait was about a half hour for a group of 6 which considering the day and the apparent popularity of the restaurant pace that it seemed reasonable. We were sat closer to the back and waiting for maybe 10 minutes for our waitress which considering the day was not that bad. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with egg whites scrambled and hash and a coffee. Well in sum, I've had better food. And the biscuits while large seemed to be over powered by a thick salty gravy. It was too much gravy for the amount of biscuits I received. The hash was burnt on the bottom so I wound up not even touching it. The eggs were made well which was nice because usually people mess up scrambled whites. All in all the food and service was average. Gotta get the Bold City Burger! This is a delicious burger with fried jalapeños and a sausage patty. You WILL leave stuffed. Their fried chicken is tasty. The waiter made a special "sauce" which consisted of their syrup and a few dashes of Louisiana hot sauce. Where has this been all my life? The chicken dipped in this took it to a whole new level. We also ordered a spicy chicken biscuit. The fried chicken was so tender and was not too spicy, but definitely sooo so flavorful! This is an awesome tiny diner you need to visit. Glad I did, because it was a 30 minute wait and we were sat just a few minutes after my friend arrived. The specials of the day sounded delicious, but so did all of the menu items. We decided to get 3 things to try and split between the two of us. We got the two specials (steak omelette with lump crab, asparagus and hollandaise as well as the Yo Hala stuffed french toast with apples, cinnamon, and cream cheese) and the breakfast pizza. Our server said that for the french toast we could get a 1/2 order, so we opted for that. So, 2.5 meals for 2 people instead of 3 meals for 2 people, it made us feel a little less gluttonous. Just a little. The food all came out and looked delightful! The french toast was absolutely sinful! Sweet from the apples, creamy from the cheese, the bread was perfect - it was like eating dessert for breakfast. Absolutely delicious and my favorite of the meal. The breakfast pizza was a close second, though. Biscuit crust topped with bacon, ham, Italian sausage, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, two eggs any style, hollandaise sauce, onions and peppers, fried jalapeños and green onions (description taken from their web site). We got our eggs over medium so they would still be yolky and it was perfect! The omelette was okay. The steak was cooked well and the dish as a whole was pretty good, but compared to the other two things we ordered, it was just ho-hum. I wouldn't order it again. Our server was nice. She was busy as heck and we had to flag her down for coffee refills, but it wasn't a big deal. I will definitely be back and strongly recommend you check this place out too! read more

We were just in Orlando from Chicago and staying in the area to do some dorm shopping before taking our daughter to St. Augustine to start college at Flagler College. We have a good friend in this area who loves Metro Diner, so we met her for dinner. My daughter and I quickly realized that we ate at a Fort Lauderdale location last year when we first started touring Florida colleges. We absolutely loved the breakfast that we had there. So we met our friend for dinner at this location. The staff were extremely friendly. We stayed at our table catching up well after dinner was through chatting then moved outside and were still hanging out when the staff started leaving for the evening and they were so sweet about it!! My daughter had the Philly cheese steak, I had a veggie wrap, and my husband had the shrimp & grits. I think out friend had an egg dish. My husband also had a beer and I had a glass of wine. The drink prices are so reasonable! My husband didn't really enjoy the shrimp and grits....he's not a fried person and was really turned off that the grits are served in a fried patty...he thought it was bland and flavorless. I had a bit and thought the dish was different. My daughter and I both thought that our sandwiches were okay. Before leaving Orlando my family wanted some breakfast hot, healthy and good. I pulled up my trusty Yelp app while my husband headed in the direction we needed to go and this place popped up. It's located in the outlet mall area and shares a lot with multiple businesses. We were sat quick in a nice both, they didn't offer Vegan dishes specifically but there was items I looked to turn Vegan but asking if they would do a eggless Veggie omelette and just sauté the veggies and a side of potatoes. My husband had the chicken and waffles and our son had a children's waffle with turkey sausage. They don't have freshly squeezed juice so I opted for water and my husband and son had the orange juice. I mentioned to my hubby that they had strawberry butter made in house so he ordered some and said it was good. The server (I wish I could remember her name, I'll update my review when I locate the receipt) was amazing. She was very accommodating and patient with us and my many request and questions as well as our toddler indecisiveness. Can't go wrong with Metro so had to introduce our Grandpa to it while we were on this side of town. I went light and got the bacon, egg & cheese croissant because I knew I was gonna steal a bit of their food.lol My sister got the fried chicken which is basically half a chicken enough for at least 2 people maybe even all 3 of us.lol The red mashed potatoes & gravy were so good & she subbed her veggies for the mac & cheese. Grandpa went with the fish because we told him it was good.lol He was shocked it came with 4 huge pieces & raved about it the whole meal as well as after.lol When we walked in it looked as if every table was full but no wait and they had one half booth still open to our surprise.
