Yesterday I visited the original location on Hendricks in Jax yesterday. My taste buds were excited! Then came my food. I ordered the huevos ranchero, an old favorite. No longer had the black bean sauce on the bottom. The chorizo had been replaced by torn up breakfast sausage. I sent back the monstrosity and replaced it with shrimp and grits, another of my metro favs. There were a few baby shrimp floating in a gummy white gravy. Horrible! I ate some and left. A few months ago I finally made my way to Metro Diner. I would always drive by it on my way to do groceries. Every time I drove past it, it always had a huge crowd outside. I looked them up and saw that they were featured on Food Network´s Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. So when my family came to visit I took them for breakfast here. We had to wait about 30 minutes. And that´s because we asked for first available. We ended up getting a table outside. It was nice because it was cool outside at the time for Florida. The bad part was your sitting outside with a big crowds of people waiting and they was a bit of wind, so table seatings were flying around. I ordered the chicken and waffles because I love chicken a waffles. They prices here were reasonable especially when you see that your chicken and waffles is in fact a big waffle with pretty much half a chicken. LOL I´m not a fan of having to cut around bones when I´m eating chicken and waffles, but the chicken was so nice and chicken and well cooked that I didn´t care. Second time visiting Metro Diner. They always seem to be busy so that says something! One time we came on a Sunday and it was over an hour wait. Anywho, we went for lunch one day recently and my partner got the juevos rancheros and switched the chorizo for more avo and an extra egg since he's vegetarian, and at no extra cost which was awesome. He liked it a lot and I tried it and liked it as well. Only problem was that he found a piece of bacon in his meal. The server was notified. I ordered the honey chicken tender on a biscuit and added crunchy jalapeños and cheese. It was pretty tasty!! I also ordered a side of cheesy grits and once I threw a bit of butter and salt in, I was in heaven. Cheesy grits are my jam. We will definitely be coming back to try some more things! Our server was also a sweetheart. And we enjoyed our outside dining experience as the weather was slammin' that day. They don't have much outside seating so I imagine that would be hard to get on a nice weekend day. read more

Unfortunately things have gone downhill since my last review. Hubs and I ordered from here through a delivery service last night. I expect some concessions with delivery like the fries not being super crisp etc due to travel. However what I don't expect is everything in my order to be terrible. I ordered the steak tips, with the mashed potatoes and fruit cup as my sides, the fruit cup being an up charge. I also ordered the special lemon blueberry bread pudding. First the steak tips. So tough I literally could not chew them. I thought maybe it was just the first one but no, they were all like that. I don't know what beef they used but it was not a tender steak that you'd expect. Mashed potatoes were bland and had lumps of undercooked potato. The honey dew pieces in the fruit cup seemed to be the pieces to close to the rind and the cantaloupe was hard as a rock. Strawberries were sour. Only thing edible was the red grapes. The bread pudding was delicious. But the size of piece they gave me was less than a deck of cards which is not acceptable when you pay 6.49. I am so so so disappointed and will not order here again. read more

I've been here several times and never had a bad experience and the food is always excellent! I love how they are always consistent and I can count on them to enjoy a delicious meal. I've never had anything burnt, over, or under-cooked. Portions are large so you'll never leave hungry and most likely will be leaving with a To-Go box. They change up the specials frequently so if something looks good on there, get it before it's no longer available! The servers here definitely know the menu and give great service. My friend recently got the huevos rancheros which tasted so good he devoured the entire thing and it's a HUGE portion! I've gotten their chicken & waffles and it's crispy, well-seasoned, the waffle was slightly crispy as well. The server at the time recommended I put a couple drops of hot sauce in the syrup. It was my first time trying that and the spicy/sweet combo with crunchy chicken & waffles tasted great! You really can't go wrong with their chicken & waffles if you're indecisive. I've had their eggs benedicts a few times and that's a nice lighter meal. Always perfectly cooked and seasoned well. If they still have the Oscar Omelette as their special, that's an excellent choice too as a lighter alternative if you love crab meat. The hollandaise sauce on top compliments it very well. I love how open the restaurant is and they offer seating at the bar in front of where they cook and the area where staff get drinks. It makes me feel better to know they have nothing to hide and they handle the food safely with care. Overall, I love this restaurant and highly recommend it! read more

The metro diner in oviedo was a pleasure to eat well, service even the cooker went to my table and ask how the food was and we all ate super but we decided today go to another Metro diner in Altamonte Springs and it was a total disaster my kids didn't even eat their food so bad which was and my wife and I ate what we could. The service was also very bad, and neither dessert was offered us a bad attitude and apology but if the service is like that, unless the food tastes good because bad service and bad food is a good factor for the manager to re-certify his employees. read more

So this is the second time in two months I have eaten here and the food was bad. The first, I had the teriyaki bowl and it was bland, dry, barely any teriyaki on it and so my son and I decided to try again on April 3, 2025. I had the fish dinner with home fries and cole slaw and my son had the chicken strips meal. Both were terrible. My fish had a weird tale hanging off it, it was thin and dry. My hash browns were soggy and rubbery and the Cole slaw was so bland and tasteless and right after I threw that mess away my son came out and showed his awful meal. His tenders were so overcooked they bordered on burnt, and dry and barely any chicken in there. He loved the mashed potatoes and gravy but that was it out of two meals that cost me $30. I do not what the hype is and to each their own but I will never eat there or recommend them and I would like to add, I am a door dasher and the last few months I dread picking up orders because every time I go the food sits up top waiting for someone to bag it yet they will tell you it's not ready and walk away and leave it sit there. This place is a joke as far as I am concerned it needs desperate supervision from what I have seen. Everyone walks around doing their things and I have seen customers walk out waiting to be seated when there are tons of tables available. Glad I don't own it. read more

Come her for brunch many times with my wife. There's usually a wait, but we usually opt to sit by the kitchen bar area where you can see all the cooks action. My wife loves the chicken and waffle. They give you half of the chicken, so she always end up taking some home. I love their Monte Cristo sandwich, and their meatloaf plate. You must try this place if you are in the area. Decided to come to Metro Diner on Father's Day because they were still serving breakfast food at 3pm unlike most of the other local brunch spots near us. The waiter greeted us and brought us some coffee after we were seated. Was very impressed with the size of the coffee mug! While looking at the menu they had a combo special for around $9 and some change. It came with eggs, meat, hash browns, toast, and a short order of pancakes. We didn't realize just how big the plates were going to be but we were definitely overwhelmed by the amount of food when it came. All the food was on point and tasted great. A man came to our table (seemed to be the manager) and gave us a coupon for $5 off our next visit because of Father's Day. Took home so many leftovers! Salty. Why so salty. I'm generally good with over seasoned food, but wow. I've never had a saltier meal in my life. I'm blown away by it. Fried chicken plate. Chicken was stupid salted. First bite, wowww. That's salty. We pulled a piece of the meat, and still tasted it. They brine it salty and it is. Don't get the Pot Roast. I've never had meat like that softer outside of a Oso Bucco or frozen meals or toddler food. . It was straight weird, no texture, tons gravy. Onion Rings were good, but even the fries, wow, why so salty? I liked them at first, and then i tried it again, why are they like that? Service is amazing. This is not my first rodeo at Metro. My husband and I have frequented here more times than I can count. We always get great service and a great meal. It's an added bonus that they also offer a 10% military discount, so when my girlfriends wanted to do brunch today I recommend this place. We arrived to a packed restaurant (duh it's Sunday at a diner) and waited thirty minutes for a table. Our server was super nice and attentive but unfortunately one of my friends had some issues with her meal. First her order didn't come out with the rest of the food. The rest of us were almost done once hers finally came out. She ordered the special which was the Cheeseburger Benedict with chorizo. When she bit into it, the chorizo was completely raw. I gag thinking about it now. This is raw pork y'all!! Our server apologized and so did the manager. They were both really nice and offered to take the meal off or remake it. She opted to take it off and ordered a chicken tender kids meal to go. Now, you didn't serve her food at the same time as the rest of the table then when she received it it's not cooked properly, in my opinion you should of comped her $4 kids meal that she had to take to go, but no. Then on top of that they only gave her two chicken tenders when she had ordered her daughter the same thing and it came with three. I also order the same meal for my daughter every time we come and there are always three tenders!! Dang...Hands down...please do yourself a favor and have a cheat meal here. Omg!!! My guy ordered the breakfast special fried chicken eggs benedict, $12.99. I was even more excited to find out that instead of the normal English muffins it came with waffles (clapping when the server brought it over.. Maybe I got a bit too excited? Nah let's continue). It was sooo good, the fried chicken was so worth the guilt. It wasn't too greasy and the combo (poached egg, hollandaise sauce, chicken and waffles) was really good together! The entry comes with hashbrowns but you can switch to another side. It's enough to share and order something else small. I ordered the spicy honey fried chicken biscuit, $3.99 and a side of grits $1.75. The biscuit was so good and the sauce on the chicken was almost similar to a sweet and sour sauce. The grits were pretty good too but I only ordered the standard grits, so not much to expect. I'll be dreaming about my next visit and it will be hard to not order something with fried chicken! read more

BEST biscuits around! BUT...they need to do something with their take out order service. I ordered 2 bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits from Sofia and was told it would be 10-15 minutes. I got there in 10-15 minutes and was told that it "probably" wasn't ready yet. Being the nosey person I am, after the "greeter" had gone to clean a table, I looked at the bag on the table beside the check in stand and saw my name on the ticket. I couldn't find the price on it so I couldn't just drop the cash and leave. Apparently you can only pick up your order from the one who took your order. Sofia was busy with other customers so she wasn't able to get away until the "greeter" asked her if I could just leave cash but didn't ask her how much. Once Sofia broke free it was fine. I do think, however, that it's crazy not to have a system where others can complete your order. I've had small issues with this in the past but never where my food was right there and someone didn't even know to check to see if it was mine. I hope this problem is resolved because I truly do love their biscuits and I really want to give them 5 stars one of these days! read more
