This diner is pretty unassuming from the outside but we have been impressed with both breakfast and lunches there. I will have to say that this restaurant has to be the most efficient and well-run dining establishment I have seen in many years, and that includes up-scale restaurants too! During a very busy time I never saw departing patrons get more than six steps (and I counted) from their table before crew members were at their table cleaning and preparing it for the next guests!! I even asked to speak to the manager to compliment them on how well run the place was and was directed to a young lady behind the counter in the kitchen working her tail off instead of just hovering around looking busy like most managers. I don't exactly know what we were expecting but for some reason we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and the service that we received today at Metro Diner. It was late in the morning and we were craving breakfast. Not everyone serves breakfast past 10 am and I was happy that this place did. I ordered the protein breakfast which comes with four eggs and your choice of meat. I went with the turkey sausage. I was absolutely shocked when the plate was placed before me due to the copious amounts of food... a giant mound of perfectly scrambled eggs and six links. Who on Earth Eats that much for breakfast? Anyways my husband had the traditional eggs benedict and even he couldn't finish his plate. Instinctually, I want to scoff at the prices but then, when you see how much food you get, you can't complain. I would almost rather have half the amount of food for a slightly smaller price. At least this way we wouldn't feel bad about wasting it. Breakfast isn't exactly something you can put in a doggy bag. We're on the hunt for a good burger and we also are checking out diners in the area. Metro has both so we couldn't pass it up. We were greeted cheerfully when we arrived and were seated promptly (brownie points for that). I must say the decor in this diner did not live up to the true diner experience. It just did not "feel" like your old-fashioned diner to me. A bit more modern but still nice. Regarding the food, my husband (despite our quest for a good burger) couldn't pass up ordering breakfast for dinner (it's a thing with him). I actually ordered the basic mushroom swiss burger and I enjoyed it (good size, good flavor). Ed's breakfast was average but the quantity exceeded expectations. If you're hungry, this does the trick. He did say there were so many hash browns that some didn't seem to be cooked to the crispness that he likes. Some may be fine with that. Overall we liked Metro Diner because the food was good with good portions. We also felt like they appreciated our business. Everyone was nice and the service was good. We'll definitely be back. Note: there is no entrance to this place from busy Cape Coral Parkway! 47th Terrace is your best bet. After turning onto 47th Terrace at Carriage Cleaners off Del Prado, keep your eye out for the green Metro Diner sign. If you blow past it, just turn right at the post office and take the next right up the alley (look for the newspaper boxes). Map programs may try to bring you around front again on Cape Coral parkway but you can't get into this place off the Parkway! It is a strange setup but necessary because of the amount of traffic on the parkway. It would be totally unsafe for people to be trying to turn into these places (Metro and Culver's) off the parkway. read more

On a Sunday morning, my two friends and I went out searching for breakfast around 930/10 and ended up here. Typically that's prime time for Sunday breakfast so we expected to wait awhile but surprisingly we were seated within 5 minutes of putting our name on the list. The initial service was slow and staff in brightly colored T-shirt's wizzed by our table left & right. Finally somebody came by apologized for the wait and said he'd be right back. We were able to place our full order with him before he rushed away. The food came out relatively quickly and hot. Eggs, Bacon, Biscuits & Gravy, Hash browns, Grits & Frisco sandwich - We had no problem devouring our hearty diner breakfast in no time! Overall a good experience - typical diner food and typical Sunday morning breakfast rush but they were definitely keeping up and getting people in & out! Came in here with my family of 4 and had a very tasty yet affordable breakfast. Menu is perfect and doesn't overwhelm you with loads of options, just all your family favorites. I really liked my Crab Cake Benny. They cook the hash browns just right too. Crispy on the outside and perfectly soft in the center. The place is nice & modern inside which is nice. Floors are a bit slippery, so be careful. Overall, a great addition to the area. I really want to come back and try those waffles with the fried chicken and strawberry butter. After my last visit (and negative review) I decided to give Metro Diner another try... In the hope that my last experience was an anomaly. Glad that I did. When the waitress asked if it was our first visit, my wife said no, but nicely added that our previous time was a fiasco with improperly cooked Eggs Benedict coming out of the kitchen twice. Waitress was great and assured us this wouldn't happen today. While our order was being prepared a gentleman came out and introduced himself as an owner. A restaurant is just a building. It's the people involved that give it a heart and soul. The food is good, solid, fresh and inexpensive, all great traits for a diner. The staff is great, a few "characters" and all very nice. However, recently the hostess Betty was fired. She's elderly, talkative, and quite a personality. Unique. She made everyone feel welcome, and wasn't afraid to chat it up with all of her regulars. I can see that some newbies, or people unfamiliar with her would be annoyed if they had to wait a minute to be seated because she was welcoming others.... but go a few times, and she'll become a friend. So the Mrs. and I have been there twice and plan on adding The Metro Diner to our list of regulars. The first time there I had the Monte Cristo, its been a while since I have had one and boy was it a trip down memory lane. The sandwich was done just the way I remember it and more. The size was twice as big as I expected and I only finished 3/4. The hand made chips were fresh and warm. The lovely Mrs. D. had the special which was a beef tips with mash potatoes. The Mrs. loves potatoes but she struggled trying to finish them as the dish was so big. On our second visit we both opted for the Chicken Pot Pie - small version. The crust on top was a fresh biscuit and the whole dish was terrific. We were both glad we got the small version. We only have one tip, if you go bring a jacket or sweater as the place is kept very cold. read more

My sweetheart ordered the Fried chicken and Waffles; the light and airy waffles that has a scoop of Strawberry butter on top with half a chicken that was fried to perfection! They mix a sweet and spicy dipping sauce of Louisiana hot sauce and Maple syrup- sounds weird but is out of this world! My daughter-in-law had the sausage and gravy which caused her to start talking with a southern drawl. My other son ordered the Crabcake Benedict that was so good that he stopped talking to us until he finished everything! Parking: 4.7 There's little parking in front but, lots of parking in the back. This place is quickly going downhill. At first, it was good food in a restaurant that is so cold you need a coat. The last time though, the food was pretty bad and it was so cold the manager (who was real nice) had a coat on too. Add the weird uneven closing hours and I'm concerned this may be a vacancy after season... No, the temperature of the Diner is COLD and the employees and managers are unable to do anything. EVERYONE has sweaters and coats on, since the first day. Learn to FRY! The trick is to cook the chicken without burning the coating. The tenders can drive nails! In fact, all of the food was just ok. They graciously switched my soup out for the loaded potato which was better but nothing to write home about. Metro Diner is one of my favorite restaurants and has been for years but my takeout experience today was not what I've come to expect from them. The meatloaf arrived burnt and without any gravy whatsoever. The pot roast was delicious, though slightly more dry than usual (it's the best thing on the menu). I will still recommend Metro and will continue eating there but am definitely disappointed in our to-go experience. I have now been to this location twice and both times have seriously been memorable with impeccable service by Jazmine! She served my son and I early this morning, not knowing that she was the same server that took care of my family about a month earlier. She was the same happy, smiling, funny and down to earth server both times which tells me she enjoys her job and the people she serves. I appreciated her attention and knowledge of the menu as well as her personable conversation about life. She really made the difference between just going for eggs and coffee to a beautiful morning out with a perfect start to a lovely Florida day.
