When they first opened they were very good!! This morning......We had cold toast, frozen butter ( of which we had to put on toast) guess it's to much work !!! Used to love this place, but it's gone way down hill in the last few years. The last few times we've been there the food and the service were just average at best. Went there for breakfast last week. Server was nice, but had to ask for things multiple times, she just wasn't very attentive. Our water glasses (2 of them) had stuff floating in them and the glasses themselves had dirty spots on them - one had gross debris on the outside of the cup too. We asked for new. The waitress apologized and stated "it happens, I don't have time to check every cup". Ok, it happens, sure. The second set that came weren't any better - I'd think you'd take a second to check the second set though. We also got coffee. After I finished my coffee (food hadn't came yet - so it wasn't from me), there was a chunk of some soft food like bit in my cup. So gross. Food came, and the hash-browns and the pancakes had black char chunks in them... come on, clean the cooking surface! Toast was hard and cold. It's just way below the quality it used to be. We usually stay away for a few months and then figure we'll give them another try....but I think we're giving up for good this time. JUST finished a morning of deliciousness here with my daughter and my mother. First up, what did everyone have? Well, I ordered chicken and waffles, my mother had the biscuits and gravy, while my daughter opted for the kid's waffle. Second, how was it all? FABULOUS! FILLING! Extra to take home! Now I KNOW you're saying "TELL US MORE!!!" OKAY I shall! The chicken was crisp, PERFECTLY seasoned, cooked PERFECTLY, juicy. The sticky and spicy glaze is NOT needed what so ever and is thankfully served on the side. You're given half, yes HALF a chicken. So be hungry or you're taking food home. Cause you won't be sharing, it's THAT good. The waffles, light, airy, with a crisp outside and a dusting of powdered sugar. Just the way children and adults enjoy them. My kid finished hers WITHOUT being told to "please eat" even once which is a miracle in itself, so that's saying something for these waffles. The biscuits and gravy. Now this is TOTALLY something that's my mother's happy place and according to her, twas in a word wonderful. And came with eggs and hash browns. Which by themselves were a meal. The Metro Diner in Cape Coral, Florida is a phenomenal establishment for dining. Whether it be breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner you can be assured you'll dine in a great atmosphere, partake in delicious food and excellent customer service. The motif is reminiscent of a 1950's small town America with a Brooklyn borough ambience. The overwhelming feel of being welcomed and overall laid back atmosphere is a refreshing alternative to the standard "rush & pay" treatment of the, now, status quo of American dining. The breakfast dining experience is by far my favorite choice. Metro Diner boasts all the classic breakfast entrees plus some fantastic, less common options reminiscent of the Southern accent (such as corn and cheese grits) and San Francisco / SoHo (such as the avocado toast). Be sure to bring a friend or expect to request a to go box because the portions are definitely larger than the standard size portions you would expect. All of this at a refreshing price around $20 per person (although the portions could easily feed two individuals!). Finally, the wait and kitchen staff are extraordinary! I recently embarked on a breakfast journey on a Sunday morning. Consider this a fair warning, this establishment is very busy on weekend mornings. With that said, a crowd that was standing room only, only required a surprising low seating rate of about 15 to 20 minutes. All my other dining experiences had me seated immediately. On my Sunday visit I sat at the front counter (easy way to avoid any seating delay for single or couples dining) with a clear and transparent view of the kitchen staff. Being a former food preparer myself, the level of professionalism, skill, teamwork, dedication to customer service and overall pride of work was an exemplary display of how EVERY dining establishment should operate. The wait staff is knowledgeable, courteous, patient, efficient and always display a welcomed and genuine appreciation of the patrons choosing to share an experience with. I will call out one of Metro Diner's wait staff by name. I have been fortunate enough to be served by Jazmin on every visit. She not only displays all the above mentioned qualities of the wait staff but has a superlative and charismatic personality with a welcoming energy that is unsurpassed! Managerial staff, pay attention...Jazmin is an absolute asset to your establishment and deserves a significant pay raise. Although I choose to dine at the Metro Diner for all the above mentioned characteristics, Jazmin is the proverbial "cherry on top" that keeps me coming back for more. Absolutely brutal. We've ordered from here a few times now and each time it gets worse. It's our fault for keep trying but it's close to the house and we hope it's good. My wife's food was almost inedible. We couldn't tell if her pancake was dropped on the floor or if the griddle was just dirty. She didn't eat them. Her hash browns were nothing but grease and her toast was rock hard. We had to microwave it to try and soften it up. Somehow she was given a mix of white and wheat bread for whatever reason. I had a waffle that was somehow rock hard on the one side and soft and mushy on the other. When I walked in to get my order there was a waffle and a side of bacon in the window. I heard the cook say "it's trash" but the server instead boxed it up for me to take home. I was hoping it was all recently made but I was wrong. On the bright side the bacon was pretty good and the servers were nice. But I'm pretty sure that was the last time ordering from here. read more

Second time at Metro Diner. The food was mostly good, especially the mashed potatoes. My meatloaf was warm at best. Good flavor, but it obviously sat waiting on sides or the other plate to be made. The big problem was service. I know it's a COVID world and all, but a half empty restaurant shouldn't take 30 minutes to deliver two plates. I should never run out of my drink - an iced tea. I shouldn't have to ask three times for salt and pepper and ketchup. I shouldn't be served by three different people in one sitting. I shouldn't get tired of waiting for a server to get my credit card so I dropped cash instead and walked out. That cost you some tip money, there. Servers were friendly enough but absolutely inattentive. They may get one more try - our previous experience was much better. But another performance like this and Metro Diner will be off the list. read more

I visited this diner while on vacation and visiting my family. Super cute, old-fashioned spot with great customer service! I had the chicken parmesan sandwich with a side of french fries. I also requested honey mustard on the side to use for dipping. The waitress was friendly and attentive and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. The food was great - I will say the chicken parmesan sandwich was a tad bit lacking in flavor; it seemed to rely too heavily on butter and grease. The chicken was a little dry too. I saw so many things on the menu I wanna try. Do I went for the sausage gravy and biscuits. Huge portion and it comes with eggs and home fries. All delicious and prepared perfectly. Husband went all out breakfast. Sausage, eggs, toast, home Fries. Service was on point! Restaurant is clean, friendly and the food is good. We'll be back! I usually enjoy the food from Metro Diner. So when I wanted breakfast this morning, Metro Diner was one of the first places to come to mind. I have been craving shrimp and grits for a while so when i saw it on the menu, i ordered it. I wish I didn't. Firstly, I did not expect my meal to look exactly like but picture; but I definitely did not expect it to look like this. The presentation of the meal was terrible.
