Been here twice and both times had to send cold food back, retrieve my meal in separate pieces at multiple times of my experience and each person at the table was served their food at different times. On top of that the manager Tina was extremely rude! She wasn't apologetic at all and though she took a little off the check, she refused to do more even acknowledging their mess up om everything. Her attitude is basically "yeah we messed up, opps? I dont care." Only good part was our waitress. She was such a sweetheart and truly felt bad for how we were treated and served. I tried to eat here for three weekends in a row and every time there was a 45 minute wait. This weekend after finally being patient I can see what the hype is all about. It started with our server GiGi being a ray of sunshine. Her bubbly personality had me smiling the entire time. GiGi was patient and took every detail about our meal as well as offered alternatives. Any special request made was accepted with ease giving me the impression nothing is too hard for this establishment when it comes to pleasing their customers. I enjoyed the Bissell breakfast with bacon, cheese eggs, toast, grits and pancakes. The portions were generous and I appreciated receiving the meal 7 minutes after it was entered. The coffee was rich with flavor and just the right temperature. I was so happy to see Metro Diner practicing extensive safety measures during COVID. The clean glass surrounding the booths are nice and every employee was wearing their mask correctly. To do my part, next time I will be sure to give my server the specfic number I need for sugar, creme, and butter because any of the items at the table not used must be thrown away. Definitely worth the 30 minute wait! Metro Diner was totally hopping in a Sunday afternoon, but the staff was great, making us feel at home and ensuring that we were well taken care of. The Shrimp and Grits were incredible! Perfectly done shrimp, with mild andouille sausage were in a very rich sauce, which was as thick as gravy. This was poured on top of two fried grit cakes infused with cheese, roasted red peppers and andouille sausage. The dish was garnished with chopped bacon and green onions, which made for a remarkable dish, though not so photogenic. I'm told that the Chicken and Waffles were really good. Portion sizes are super-human, so be careful. I'm really happy that Metro Diner has come to Fredericksburg. read more

Originally I came for shrimp and grits. That was what I ordered when I visited. My waitress came to tell me that we were out of shrimp and grits and didn't find out until my friends food was almost finished. The manager came up to me and asked if I wanted something else and I wanted it egg and crab Benedict. Food came out quick And the service was great. I was not disappointed with my meal. I have heard such good things about this place. One co-worker told me it was the cleanest place she'd ever been. She said she'd eat off their floor. It was clean there, I'll give them that. We had about a ten minute wait for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I got the protein breakfast. The scrambled eggs were inedible. They were strangely wet and greasy. Yuck. The sausage aslo tasted funny. The only thing I could eat was the bacon. My kids got the pancakes. They definitely aren't picky eaters and they said they were terrible. This was my first time here and I loved it! We came about an hour or so before close, it took a few minutes for someone to seat us and for a server to approach our table. Our waitress was very nice though. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken was really good and I loved the fries because they're seasoned. Today Husband and I tried the Metro Diner. It was an odd experience. First the decor was cute - maybe a cross between country and diner. They made good use of the space but it borders on feeling crowded. Our table backed a chair right into a column. The service was not good. Our waitress let us sit for almost 15 minutes before speaking to us. We had decided to leave at minute 15 but she made it under the time. Barely. There was a customer seated next to us at least 10 minutes into our wait. She waited on him promptly and then acknowledged us. I ordered an avocado wrap. The first half had no avocado at all. It was a black bean and spinach wrap with an unusual number of free-range jalapenos and a "ranch" sauce that had some heat and an odd taste. The second half was where all the avocado was found. It was all there because it was so raw and so hard that it couldn't be cut into slices. I couldn't even get a fork in it. I showed it to the waitress. She said she would BRB and walked away. And we waited some more. Apparently she went to find her manager although we only assumed that. She brought Husband a refill of sweet tea (in his unsweetened tea) and walked away. And we waited. So the manager was a nice man. He was not happy to see what I had been served. He took it off of the bill and offered to bring me other food. It seems he has to do that a lot. But by that time, Husband had long ago finished his sandwich and we were ready to go. He started to give an excuse about the produce provider. I told him that it didn't really matter what was brought. The kitchen knew they should have not served that avocado. He agreed. Along with the wait for service, the wait for food, and the unacceptable decision of the kitchen to send out food with a rock hard ingredient, we probably won't go back. If we do go back, we will stick with breakfast. They seemed to really, really want us to order breakfast. Husband's Ruben sandwich was good, he said. The fries were pedestrian if you ask me. I had mashed potatoes and they were good. I confess that I did something I never ever do.... I under tipped. Our waitress simply was not good. She didn't pay attention to what was being sat. She didn't notice that we had waited for nearly 15 minutes but she waited first on a person who had just been sat. She mixed sweetened tea into non-sweet tea (which is uck at best). And she didn't explain what was happening. She just walked away. We had to ask the manager if we took our check to the front - which we wish we could have since that prompted another unnecessary wait. Sorry, I usually tip correctly no matter what because I know that they work for pennies. But I just couldn't do it. So cheers to the manager. If you are a good restaurant group looking for a good manager, you might have a candidate there.... just sayin'. read more

I was very disappointed with my meal today at Metro. I had the Fruity Waffle which had the blueberries mixed in the batter and the center of the waffle was soggy. I assume they did this because the blueberries were getting mushy. The fruit on the top was maybe 2 strawberries and 6 thin slices of banana of which 3 slices were over-ripe and black. We then had the chocolate cake for dessert and it was very dry. Not like it used to be. The quality of food has definitely declined but I am not surprised since the food quality of more and more eating places is declining. Our server Ann was very attentive and fast though. read more

Went in for lunch on Sunday with my husband, around 1230pm. It was pretty busy but we were seated quickly. The server was a very nice young lady. We had water quick, and she kept my husband's soda full. The menu had lots of yummy options to choose from. The chicken and waffles looked AMAZING! I ordered biscuits and gravy, with cheese eggs (cheese cost extra, be aware most things cost extra,and it's already kinda pricey) and crispy hash browns. The food took a little long, but they were busy so no surprise there. The portions were good. The taste was too bland to say it was bad, but to flavorless to say it was good. I added lots of salt and pepper to the biscuits and gravy, but still they tasted like nothing really, not even the sausage that was in it. My husband ordered a cheesesteak and max n cheese (mac and cheese cost extra, because it's a prime side, they must buy expensive cheese) He liked everything. I tasted the mac and cheese, it was good, small portion though, since you have to pay extra they could give more. All in all a nice place. Me and my husband have been going here for quite a while but something happened this last time that made me have to reconsider if I'm going to put this on my list of places that I will NO LONGER EAT AT!We were sat at a table near the station that the grub hub and Uber eats drivers pick up their orders. Now maybe it's just me, but I don't like having breakfast with a whole bunch of people's tails level with my food. It seems so unsanitary and awkward to me. They should make the drivers wait up front and get the food brought to them. One person that left a review stated that Tito's has better waffles. Hate to say it, but place is going downhill on cleanliness. Food is still delicious which is why I keep going back, but cleanliness of the restaurant is a concern now. Granted they wipe down the tables, but the seats in the booths are being ignored as well as floors. I could understand this happening during busy times, but certainly during quiet times the staff could clean vice standing around chatting. I was there around 3:00 on several occasions and floors of the booths and some tables were filthy with dropped food and napkins. Glad I brought my own sanitizer. read more

We have tried several restaurants on our 2018 Fall road trip & Metro Diner has been one of the best so far. The place is casual with nice decor throughout the diner. The wait staff was friendly and offered some excellent suggestions for us. They have an excellent selection of sandwiches & dinner as well as all day breakfast. They offer chicken & waffles, shrimp & grits, Reuben, burgers & lots of other favorites. We tried the turkey dinner, chicken pot pie & chicken alfredo. Each one of us was very satisfied with our meals. The portions are large for modest prices. My pot pie was massive (I stupidly ordered the jumbo) & i could only eat about half of it. It was very tasty & loaded with chunks of chicken. The restaurant was very clean! We stopped in during a very busy Sunday brunch time of late morning for brunch and we were lucky enough to score three seat (without having to wait) at the kitchen bar, where we could watch the food being prepared and plated. It was quite impressive to watch the kitchen staff (and there were many of them at various stations) work together as a team to prepare some really nice-looking plates of food. The most impressive was the lady running the egg station, she moved very fast and her eggs looked outstanding! Only issue with having this area open to guests to view is that they'll now see some of the "secrets" that the restaurant might have otherwise kept hidden and I noticed a few things worth pointing out that the management needs to work on... 1. The avocado being used for various benedicts had quite a bit more brown on it than it should have, they simply used the egg placed on top and the hollandaise sauce to hide this. 2. We saw several times where items were taken from one completely plated dish to prepare/complete another dish, for instance, they removed frit topping from a fruit-topped waffle and put it in a bowl as a side order of fruit. That fruit would have been heated up by the waffle and not as fresh as it could/should have been by then. They remove onions (from one of the dishes we actually ordered) and put on top of something else for another guest, etc. 3. When running out of hollandaise sauce, just fill the bin with a little more heavy cream and ultimately thin out what's already whipped up in there, until the next batch of sauce. I don't find all of these issues serious, but felt the need to mention it, hoping that management will read and act on this to prepare better and prevent this sort of activity in the future. They were just so busy, this seemed like something to do to stay on track. I will say that the team in the back worked together perfectly without anyone getting upset and did an amazing job pumping out food orders. Regarding the food... I tried the corned beef hash, which is freshly made, in-house and it had a really nice flavor! I did ask for the jalapeños to be mixed into the has when it was being cooked, but they were sprinkled on top instead. This didn't really add the flavor I was seeking. Also, they should use fresh peppers, not pickled from a jar, as the flavor profiles are vastly different between the two and the fresh ones do a better job adding to the flavor of the food without being overly pungent with vinegar. Also, they charge 75 cent for this, which would have been worth it had they been mixed in. Same with the side of hash browns, we noticed some coming out with these various "side order" veggies mixed in, but ours came with onions on top, which is not at all the same. Overall, the food was excellent and the service was OK, nothing spectacular regarding the service. The restaurant is very clean and looks pretty nice inside. The staff was friendly and they had many interesting items on the menu that we look forward to going back to try out. I realize I pointed out more negative than positive, but I did that in hopes they read this and use it for improvement and also to better explain why I'm giving this place a 4 instead of a 5, which it could have and should have been. read more

I had to go to this NEW location in Fredericksburg. I am familiar with Metro Diner in NC, and was looking for the same feeling/taste. So of course I had the Belgium Waffle with the Strawberry Butter and as ALWAYS, no syrup necessary....just Delicious!! I did have the Meat Lovers Omelet, which was really good and the loaded Hashbrowns- I forgot about the Omelet and Hashbrown because the Waffle was so Amazing with the Strawberry Butter! Had avocado toast the first time (was more like guacamole toast, but outside of the Southwest people don't seem to get the difference), and second time was their special, fried Cod and fries. We both ordered the turkey pot pie. Which was good, and when it came out, it was bubbling hot. Their mango tea was good too. Then we went a week later and sat there for about 15 minutes and did not even get our drinks ordered. It was not as busy as the first time, so we got up and left. Where to begin... first the staff is very pleasant and professional. Second there was no wait to be seated. Third the food was delicious. Overall first impression was outstanding. Metro Diner will easily become one of our staple go to places in the Fredericksburg area. Toddler had the chicken quesadilla with side of mixed fruit and devoured it without fussing. If you have small children they have special cups with lids and bendy straws. I split the Fried Chicken Platter with mashed potatoes and veggies (zucchini and yellow squash) with my husband. Fried chicken was well seasoned and moist. Very good. The mashed potatoes were some of the best mashed potatoes I have had outside of home cooking. The veggies were cooked perfect. My husband split with me the Holy Davoli Burger. This is a burger with bacon and slaw sandwiches in between two grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches. All I can say is WOW! He got both fries and onion rings as a side. Sorry no room for dessert. Would have loved to have tried the cobbler. We can't wait to bring friends and family to try this place. read more

The portions are huge, he staff is very nice as well and VERY busy...this place is perpetually packed. During busy hours you will wait for a table. The food service is also pretty slow, but man is it worth it. I believe this place is a small chain, but that doesn't seem to impact the quality of food. I'd say give this place a shot. It's a diner, it's crowded, the food service can be slow, but you'll be forget about any of the bad things and be happy once you start in on whatever you ordered. UPDATE: I should clarify my slow service remark. Service isn't slow because the staff is slow or lazy or anything, it's slow because these people have a ton to do and a lot of people to cook for. I got the jumbo chicken pot pie....pretty good... My daughter got the steak n cheese, pretty sub par. It was nearly impossible to identify any toppings the meat was unseasoned or not enough we had to dig under or into the meat to find any cheese. I am new to the area, and so far haven't been impressed by the restaurants That I have tried in the area. I don't eat breakfast often, and am really picky when it comes to breakfast. Every once in a while I really want a good breakfast. I am not a fan of IHOP or Denny's at all. I saw the reviews for this place and decided to try it, but expected average food. I was beyond pleasantly surprised when I received my food. It arrived really hot and fresh via DoorDash. I ordered the Bissell breakfast with cinnamon roll pancakes, and the cheesy grits. It is extremely hard to find food that is seasoned right. Everything was amazingly seasoned. The sausage, and eggs were perfectly cooked, and the pancakes were fluffy and delicious. The grits had amazing flavor, but they arrived kind of dry and were extremely course and thick. I added butter and extra cheese and heated them up, and they were delicious. I'm used to basically seasoned potatoes with home fries, there's are like potato pieces that are fried. They looked burnt, but after trying them they definitely weren't, it's just how you have to cook them. They were good. The strawberry butter was incredible! I wish I could buy this by the tub. This sounds so horrible but I could literally eat it by itself. They placed a separate bag in my order with utensils, and plenty of condiments, which I really appreciate. Chicken and waffle was probably the second best I've had and not by much. Crispy chicken with very little excess oil drippings. Waffles done just right. They mix the maple syrup with some hot sauce to dip the chicken in which was unique for me.
