A definite favorite of mine. My husband and I go here at least once a week. I've had a few things off the menu and all were great, but we are both stuck on their Chicken and Waffles. Well, well, well....the yelpers were right. This place is yummy!!! I had to have the chicken and waffles. It was one very large Belgium waffle and an entire 1/2 chicken. I ate about 1/2. The waffle was soft and light. The strawberry butter was Fan-freakin-tastic. They need to sell that by the tub! The chicken was juicy and delicious. My mom had the fruity waffle. Strawberries, blueberries and bananas on top. The man had biscuits and gravy with eggs and hash browns. Very good. They even have their version of the Waffle House hash browns-all the way. Second time coming here. The first was four stars, but something changed. I had chicken and waffles the first time I came and it was good. Perfectly fried chicken and waffle was great. This time the chicken is almost burnt, kinda suck cause my daughter and son was sharing it. Kinda disappointed after hyping it up for them to order it. I had the ranchos and it was blah. The meat was scarce but it taste good, not awesome but good enough. Will I come back, we will see in due time. It is one of those things that I would like my family to try. Now why four stars again? I would give it a 4 star for food but the bottom bun on the breakfast burger was soaked with burger grease. Our fries were delivered well after our sandwiches were too. The salt shaker had gunk stuck to the lid and the ketchup lid had dried ketchup child finger prints all over it. But we gave 3 star for the working lunch crowd. They cant accommodate those who take hour lunches. We arrived at 11:20 and had a 10 minute wait. Was sat and waited 5 minutes for a waitress who said she wasn't prepared to take our order, just our drink orders. We've been to a few other Metro Diners, including the original one, but decided to try one nearby. We recently moved to a neighborhood that's close to this location. We know the drill. You MUST get here before 9 am. If you don't, you will have to wait. We arrived around 8:40 am and were greated immediately by a gent with a broad smile. A young lady named Jara was our server and she was engaging and wonderful. I had their classic Chicken and Waffles, but could only eat half. My husband factors this into his order, so he had two eggs with toast before eating the other half of my breakfast. Portion sizes are large/huge, so keep this in mind when ordering at any Metro. Everything was hot, as requested and served promptly. Jara checked in us at the appropriate times and was an absolute pleasure. Another great meal at Metro Diner, but now there's one close to our home. While some companies expand their locations and the quality suffers, it is the exact opposite with Metro. Each location we've tried has been great. We will be back! read more

The service was fine, however the food was not great. The toast was crunchy and not enjoyable, home fries were worse. I am surprised that they were served being so burnt. None of the food was above average for a diner. On top of this myself and another guest both had gritty salt residue on the rim and outside of the coffee cups. Enough to taste it. We tried Metro Diner on Roosevelt Blvd. because we had seen a program on local TV describing how they marinated their fried chicken. We went for lunch and the place was packed, with people waiting for seats and take-out. Our chicken was fried very nicely and the meat was high quality, but sadly there was NO hint of marinade or seasoning, (No secret herbs or spices that we could detect). It was, however, FAR BETTER than the last chicken we had over at KFC. Metro's mashed potatoes, squash and biscuit were respectable but the waitress brought us flavored ice tea which had an artificial fruity taste. Ugh! The lunch plate costs more than you might guess but could probably feed a small family. read more

Southern hospitality at its best! Down home ambience that feels very much like grandmas house...not my grand mother, but what Id expect a southern grandmas house to be. Brandy and the other local staff were excellent. Very nice and attentive. She quickly suggested the chicken and waffles, as well the shrimp and grits as the favorites of the natives. I went with the chicken and waffles, while my associate decided on the shrimp and grits. The portion size was "southern" to say the least. By far one of the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. Golden, crispy and moist. The waffles were perfectly golden brown triangle clouds. Brandy suggested I try theyre world famous concoction of maple syrup and Louisiana hot sauce which elevated the meal into the stratosphere of flavor. I drenched my waffles in it. Overall, i was very pleased with my experience. I hope to make it back to try some of there other daily specials or numerous breakfast options. read more

Longtime fan of the one on San Jose,but this one falls way short. This was my second (and last) visit to this location. I ordered an American omelette,and the hash browns,then when I inquired about TOAST I was informed it was considered a side?!? I have never,in 50 years on this planet,ever had a breakfast where toast was considered a side. Ridiculous. My omelette and hash browns tasted exactly the same,there was no flavor,and I finally found a little pocket of cheese at the end of the dish.My Mother ordered a Denver omelette,and it too tasted exactly like mine,flavorless and greasy.Their prices are ridiculous and the quality is definitely off.I much prefer Grumpy's on kingsley or the Egg on edgewood. Very disappointing since I love the one on San Jose so much.And to top it all off,the coffee was like brown water! read more

The food is awesome, with more than sufficient portions at affordable prices, and the staff is friendly/personable offering timely service; nothing but great experiences thus far. Thus far, I've tried two egg breakfast; substituted breakfast meats for corn beef hash; It was delicious! The chicken pot pie is to die for; very tasty with a spoon full of chicken and vegetables with every bite! The chicken and waffles; "hush your mouth" because you will not be able to stop talking about it! The sweet/spicy dipping sauce was so good. Of course I had to get a to-box; got the full order. It was a long wait in hot rainy Florida weather. I asked that my ommette be well done but the cook must have paid no attention. It was too hot to drink coffee so I just had a water. Always a pleasant experience at this metro diner location. The servers are kind and the manager is always very friendly and says hello and checks on almost every table to make sure everyone is happy with their meals. My last visit, I bought lunch to go and I got the grilled three cheese but added ham which was extremely salty but still really tasty. This location is clean and has a great friendly vibe! I've always loved Metro Diner until my recent experience on Monday afternoon (3/7/16). I came in with my husband and 2 month old to meet friends for lunch. By the time the rest of our party arrived my son was starting to get fussy and was hungry. I discretely started to nurse my son, and during that time the manager on duty came over to our table and said another customer asked if I could "cover myself better". By FL law, I'm allowed to nurse my son however and whenever I see fit. The manager had no right to disturb our meal over something so natural and legal. I feel as if I'm owed a huge apology and won't be returning to Metro Diner. I will also let everyone know that this restaurant is NOT family friendly. read more

I took my dad for a special lunch, & was not disappointed. We were permitted to sit in the quieter back room. Our food was sumptuous. The manager even stopped by to make sure we were enjoying our meal. No complaints really. I asked for a take out box before my meal & received it after, but I had not stressed that I needed it early to help me avoid eating all their generous servings of delicious lunch items. read more

Everything isn't for everybody. The food is always good but I made two bad choices this go round. The huevos rancheros was not good to me at all. I usually only order it from authentic Mexican spots but I gave it a try because I was kind of rushed to order since my brunch companion was ready to order. The tortillas were fried so I couldn't wrap up my eggs with them. It was also topped with sour cream, fried jalapeños, tomatoes, and black beans, which I love but not in my eggs(the black beans). I chose the up-sale of hash browns which was not good either. They looked like they were put on the grill for about 1 minute on each side, but wear uncooked the middle? The waitress, who was great by the way, had them to make some more for me, but they were about the same. The browns were well done on the outside but still super soft on the inside. I told the waitress the first time that I would take them home fix it myself but she insisted on having the cooks to get it right . Again, the food at Metro had always been fantastic to me but everything just isn't for everybody. Back to chicken and waffles next time! read more

I've been to this location many times over the past couple of years. The food has always been great except for the the chicken and waffles (served cold). The service has been fine. The wait especially on Saturday & Sunday from breakfast until about 1:30 PM/2:00 PM has been very long. I'm rating this location as poor based on today's experience. I arrived around 12:30 PM and waited to be seated. I always/specifically ask for a table due to my back and cannot sit on the bar. The wait was supposed to be 10 to 15 minutes. I know it is usually a bit longer. The thing I noticed today is that they were seating customers who came in well after me and then had the audacity to ask me if I would please sit at the bar when I told them I cannot due to my back. I told them to cancel my place and proceeded to leave. Once I told them that, they "miraculously" got a table ready. I politely declined and left. Not a good way to treat a regular customer. The food here is great except for the chicken and waffles because the chicken never comes out fresh or hot and the chicken is usually pre-cooked and left waiting until someone orders it. It's never cooked fresh to order given the time constraints. I never had an issue with service/waiting until today. read more

There this past Sunday for brunch, party of six. Waitress tells us upfront that this is her first day. We all ordered water and various meals. She came back with the water, took the orders and left. Much later, I flagged down another waitress and asked her to fetch ours. We needed more water and three of us wanted mimosas. Prompt service on the drinks and orders came soon thereafter. I ordered breakfast which was good, but bread came with no butter, one person needed her mimosa diluted, and another child's hot chocolate came cold. She had had the grilled salmon for lunch. After a real hot chocolate finally came, she drank it and then she threw up. The white plates have a ring of gray around them which makes them look dirty. I am sure the waitress will get better, but I am not certain about the food. read more

When I asked if we could sit inside the host seemed annoyed by such a horrible request and snatched the menus up and stormed off inside. Second chance and result , even for a very simple dish this morning, was suprisingly lacking in taste and attention. I was overcharged but even so, the extra dollar for scrambled (read rubberized) eggs and toast left me wondering why I hadn't simply taken the missing dollar to the taco bell in same parking lot for a comparable and less expensive breakfast. It would have been friendlier and tasted about the same. I love breakfast and no stranger to making my own but also enjoy grabbing a quality breakfast when in a hurry and expect it to still be delicious. I have ordered previously over the phone, called in .2 miles from restaurant as I was checking out at sushi place in same parking area (received a poor excuse for sandy eggs benedict and 'fresh fruit' side) in which the order wasn't placed until I arrived and they couldn't find original order nor the waitress who took the order. This time I placed my order in front of the metro and for $6 plus $1 tip (don't know who received the overcharged $1 but hope they needed it), I received greasy yet rubbery scrambled eggs which is hard to accomplish. Toast was mediocre. I checked the bag and had to ask for an additional napkin (I'm not messy nut appreciate being able to wipe my hands). Even coffee was less than what I would expect. In short, I will take the couple of minutes to make my own breakfast next time. This place is overpriced for receiving subpar, rude service and food that leaves you wondering where your money and time was spent. read more

I previously wrote a bad review about my first trip to metro and was immediately contacted by the owner. He (John D.?) reached out to me apologize and asked me to give them another try. He sent me a certificate to have lunch on him. THAT WAS A YEAR AGO!!. I went back in April 2016 and the food was so delicious I started taking notes on an envelope. Here we are almost a year later and I am just now updating this review, so yeah...I kind of suck. I found the envelope tonight (I thought I had eaten it) and wanted to update this review ASAP. I went back and ordered the Vortex Burger. This MASTER of all burgers is a juicy thick burger between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches!!! My friends, if you have not tried a vortex burger, you might as well be a baby in a diaper chewing on soggy teething biscuits. Your are NOT an adult! Forget what you've seen on TV, this is what real luxury tastes like. You may be married with kids and a wonderful life but you are not living your BEST life. Your BEST life includes adding a vortex burger to your menu at least once a month (although I recommend every two weeks). This burger is bigger than Kanye West's ego, Oprah Winfrey's bank account and Shaquille O'Neal's anything! When i saw it on the menu I could not imagine HOW to eat it. I wanted to try something new and outside of my comfort zone so I went for it. On a side note, it doesn't help that the fries are made PERFECTLY as ordered (I love extra crispy fries). The only complaint I have is that my face would not stretch enough to take bigger bites. Oh, how I remember it like it was yesterday. It was my first real romance with food. I hesitated to order it when the booth across from me was suddenly filled with firefighters at lunch. What will they think if I order this huge burger? Who cares??? This meal is on John and I'm going to take one for the team! I had to take 3 separate small bites out of the top, middle and bottom of the burger to get the full experience of all the flavors at once. I don't know what I looked like when the firefighters left, but I sense they were afraid to look me in the eye. They had just glimpsed the warrior inside me. I stopped periodically and flipped through a magazine I bought with me, then I took another bite. I couldn't finish it but that meal sustained me for quite a while. I have no idea when I ate my next meal or what it was. It doesn't matter. It was merely cold porridge compared to the vortex. Seriously this thing is a must have. Put it on your bucket list, put it on your grocery list. If I ever order anything else on the menu, I will review it. Right now, almost a year later, I still can't get past it. It is everything I need in life and having one every couple of weeks will not wreck your figure or your weight.
