I have been to this location twice. It is one of my go-to places when I come to Jacksonville and I miss this place when I'm not there. I absolutely loved the chicken and waffles with a strawberry butter and a spicy syrup it makes it totally unique and makes me crave it. I have also tried me yo holla on the square which is very good but very sweet. I got a side of hash browns to balance it when I ordered it. I've also tried the pound cake French toast which is very good but also very sweet. I ordered my son a side of bacon and a scrambled egg and he loves the bacon. There's also nice that they have chocolate milk for kids. My mom ordered Chicken and Waffles and substituted a pancake instead of the waffle and also chicken tenders instead of the bone in chicken. They did this with no hesitation and she enjoyed her meal. Service seems to be pretty good. I wish they would refill drinks a little bit more but at least our order was correct and any substitutions we wanted were made with no problem. The only problem I have is that I have to travel couple thousand miles to visit this restaurant. read more

On my plate was a waffle and half a fried chicken perfectly cooked, juicy flavorful...my son took a bite of the chicken and said it tasted better than...Publix chicken..yep it's really good. Two biscuits came split in half and smothered in rich sausage gravy. The gravy had a slight sour aftertaste to it. The bottom halves of the biscuits were a bit tough to cut into. I've only had biscuits and gravy at two other places, Hardee's and Wawa. Better than Hardee's but I prefer WaWa's. Would rate this breakfast 7/10. read more

The music is golden oldies, David Bowie, and others. The hostess is quick to greet and show one to their booth (or table). The menu looks incredible, reasonable prices with a massive variety of breakfast foods; but I'm interested in lunch. The waitress is fast, courteous, and never lets my tea or water glass get empty. Starting with an appetizer of their unique black and blue chips... Delish. A bit messy so pass the napkins. As a critic, I have to try the meatloaf. Nobody can fix a decent meatloaf. I was proven wrong. My friend ordered the fish, chips, coleslaw, while the wife has the double decker BLT. I am envious the breaded white fish tastes so fresh it melts in the mouth. My wife gives me the look of reach for my BLT and I'll bite your hand off. Already stuffed one must have desert. Freshly made key lime pie that tastes like a party in the mouth. Came here on a Thursday evening with a rather large group. I wasnt sure what I wanted and looking at the menu there were a lot of delicious options to choose from. I ordered the crab cake Benedict in which I would have liked if there were a lot more sauce and a poached egg vice a hard boiled but besides that the entree was good. The chicken and waffles were spot on which went great with the hot sauce syrup and strawberry butter. No regrets there! Unfortunately the service we were provided was subpar at best. The waitress was over whelmed which made food coming out slow. REALLY slow! After close to 30 mins of placing our order we recieved our food. However, there were still pieces of chicken missing and meals for the kids werent ready. After another 20mins we had to flag a different waitress to check on our food. The remainder of our chicken had just started to cook and a pancake order placed originally wasnt even started on the griddle. Very frustrating, so needless to say the majority of the food got cold as we waited for everyones order to arrive. This could have been an easy 4 star, but the service just wasnt there. I've been told that this isn't normally the way Metro conducts business so I would come again. I understand that some places have off days. read more

It's been a while since I've been to the Metro. I was sat immediately in the back room with 2 servers and several minutes later a couple were sat adjacent to me. They had their drinks and orders placed before my waited greeted me. I had a classic Breakfast which was fine. Reminded me of a Waffle House Breakfast. I was height water with lemon too which I asked for none. It was brought back obviously poured off and then tipped with water. As evident by the wet cup and very little ice. The wires didn't ask me was everything okay with the water. She wasn't pleasant and when I asked for my receipt her reply was, "For the cash?" read more

This metro was so disappointing. We were sat at a table with kids menus, crayons and half chewed chicken tenders under it. I was so hungry I didn't care at the time. I asked for jalapenos in my omelet but it was delivered without them. My husbands burger was pretty flavorless. The black and blue chips special was okay. We were relaxing at the table while waiting for our check and I repositioned myself further down the booth. I got what I imagine was mashed chicken finger breading mixed with ketchup all over my shirt. THIS TABLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROPERLY PREPARED FOR THE NEXT GUEST! Best Diner in town! No matter what time of the day I go, it's slammed packed with other hungry soles. But the wait is well worth it and never very long. Today's visit we sat at the counter, quite interesting to see the meals prepped and cooked by the chefs and with speed and accuracy. Our food was delicious, I had the poached eggs and corn beef harsh with side of toast. The portion size is huge. My husband ate the American Omelet filled with steak and a half a plate of hash browns grilled to perfection. In Jacksonville for a conference and came here for dinner. Three of us shared the Charleston Shrimp & Grits (Flavorful, would have liked larger pieces of andouille but otherwise great), Fried Chicken & Waffles (flakey skin, juicy meat, and an outstanding strawberry butter to accompany perfectly cooked waffles), and Country Fried Steak (could actually taste steak! Not overly breaded, generous portion of potatoes and broccoli). Peach cobbler for desert was also great. Flakey, flavorful crust with peaches that still held its firmness with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. Oh man... I'm so full and so good. The food was probably closer to a 4.5 but the service pushes this review to a full 5 stars. Our waitress, Pamela, must have refilled my peach tea 4-5 times (yes, I can drink that much!) even when it was still 1/4 full. Their sweetened peach tea was fantastic by the way. Best BLT sandwich I've ever had in a restaurant. It's huge with 8 full strips of crispy bacon and 3 bread slices. Bacon is generously hanging out of both sides of the sandwich. I asked them to hold the third slice of bread in my sandwich. I've also had their turkey plate and meatloaf dinner plate. The food is really good. My only complaint is sometimes I've gotten hot veggies with cool meat temp. I've eaten here several times with friends and family. Everything any of us has gotten was great. We've visited this restaurant over the last seven years multiple times with always loving the service and food. We visited Saturday morning and checked in at 10:50 am for a table of 7. The person who was taking names didn't seem to know what she was doing. We were told wait time would be 45 minutes. After 45 minutes had passed, my husband checked in and was told we'd be called soon. Two people in our party had to leave so hubby went and changed the seating to 5. Some other people who had checked in observed names being called only in the restaurant and not going outside. After waiting a total of an hour and 20 minutes, my husband again went to the check in desk and was told our name was skipped. We were seated immediately. The person who was checking in people didn't have a clue as what to do. We had great food and service once seated. Very disappointed in the check in. read more

Usually I have excellent reviews for Metro Diner however may be due to covid, maybe due to the construction around this site, this visit was not exceptionally great. I ordered the chicken pot pie I was enticed by the photo in the menu but did not receive that. What I received was something with a Biscuit in the middle and crust to the bottom which was okay but it was not very Savory and the chicken chunks were minimal. My friend ordered Chicken and Waffles and in opening his thigh piece the meat was raw near the bone. The server quickly replaced a chicken and took the meal off of the bill which was very good and complementary. The last disappointment was the pumpkin spice coffee, we saw the server putting it on the menu board and became excited over the fact of having pumpkin spice coffee. We could not find pumpkin flavor or aroma. The server did bring us out some cinnamon and brown sugar to try to enhance the experience and that did help a little. All In All Metro Diner is usually on top of his game and the service and prompt. Redemption of Errors was great. I will just toss this up to covid and construction and maybe the next time our experience will rank four stars. read more

On last evening I had the pleasure of taking some family from Ohio to a local favorite. I suggested the Chicken and waffles and informed them it would be filling and well worth the trip! I'll say this, they were not disappointed. We ended up ordering three servings of that entree and it received raved reviews. The food came out hot and straight out of the grease. The children asked for more as if it was a buffet.ha This place will always be what I recommend to anyone coming into the city. The fish sandwich is one of the best fish sandwichs I've had in a while from the fish to the bun

*sigh* The girls and I decided to meet for brunch and the "matriarch" of the group chose Metro. It's one of those places I drive by all the time, have even spent ample time in the shopping center it's located in and have never noticed...so I was a little excited about trying a new place. Especially since the line literally spilled into the parking lot. We were seated and served in a timely manner, even though the waiter (bless his heart) got all of our drinks mixed up (cept mine...I kept it simple with water and lemon lol). Everyone ordered tea but half of us wanted sweet and the other half wanted unsweetened. We could tell he was pretty new though and since he was a sweetheart, we let it slide. Everything on the menu had such convincing descriptions and we were eager to receive our meals. Me and one other female ordered something a little outside of the breakfast norm; she ordered chicken and waffles and I ordered the Surf 'n' Turf eggs benedict. It consists of two poached eggs, one with a crab cake and one with rib eye steak. It comes with an English Muffin, hollandaise sauce, asparagus stalks and hash browns. Everyone else ordered basic breakfast i.e. grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, coffee, pancakes. I will sum it up in a few words: We All Left Hungry. Maybe it's because the place was SO busy...maybe we caught them on an off day. My food had absolutely NO seasoning or texture. It was as if I was eating partly solidified paper mache mix. I couldn't taste the difference between the sauce on top, the steak, crab, the onions that were cooked inside, or the lonely "asparagus stalks" from the eggs! I was SO disappointed and even after adding salt, pepper and hot sauce...MEH. The hash browns were the result of an inexperienced cook. Painfully crisp top layer covering a cool, soft wreck underneath. I pushed my plate aside and considered getting my plate replaced with something similar to what my gals had but judging by the looks on their faces and the barely touched food on their plates, I wasn't missing much. The only halfway enjoyable meal was the chicken and waffles which were absolutely HUGE... she was able to eat some herself AND share with 2 or 3 of us AND take home leftovers. It's as if they cut up and fried an entire chicken lol It was hot and crispy but hot sauce was needed to bring out some flavor. smh I MIGHT go back on a slower day and try something from their lunch menu...the chicken and waffles or the Metro melt sounds good.
