This place is small in size, but large on service and great on flavor! My 1st time here and I got the chicken and waffles. I got the 1/2 portion which is 2 pieces of chicken instead of 4 and 1/2 of a Belgian waffle. Their "special sauce" for the chicken was simple, but good. I'll definitely be back. read more

This is my fourth visit- I live in North Carolina most of the time, but when I'm in Jax, I try to visit Metro Diner. Always good, ,warm, delicious food. This visit yielded a very slow, unhappy server. Most of the girls are nice, but we had to get the exception. Each time I give in to ordering the fried chicken and waffles plate. Chicken is hot and crispy in generous portions with Belgian waffles- delicioso! It takes care of both breakfast and lunch. Awesome food. Servers are always willing to help choose (there's so much on the menu!). Love the yo hala with apples. I think it's seasonal, but should definitely be permanent. My favorite breakfast in all of Jacksonville. The place can be crazy busy with a pretty long wait, but its worth it. It's only open for breakfast and lunch, but the breakfast is really great. My absolute favorite Huevos Rancheros and the Fried Chicken with waffles if I'm feeling really hungry. I even love the basic breakfast items too. I've only had breakfast here but everything that I've tried was amazing! From the cinnamon roll pancakes (taste like you're actually eating a cinnamon roll) to the pound cake french toast( this actually tastes like you're eating pound cake) and their crab cake benedict( the dipping sauce is really flavorful)! The only thing I didn't like is that there aren't any spices or herbs in their hash browns. So you have to use the salt and pepper on the table(which doesn't do much) to give it some flavor, but other than that everything else was always great including service! read more

We were passing through Jacksonville an we went for dinner because it was featured on Food Network. Place was a dive ( I say that in a nice way - older building, rustic look, limited parking) but very clean. Service was very good, waitress recommended the meatloaf- was very good comfort food! Wife had special, corn meal waffle with cord and cheddar with maple butter - she really liked it. Bill for two was $28 not including tip. read more

I can't vouch for the entire chain of restaurants that Metro Diner has opened...it's quite a list and I can only hope they are all close to the same level as the original on Hendricks Avenue in Jacksonville. If you're not careful, you will drive right by it. It looks like a converted older home in a residential area of town. This place oozes charm from the moment you walk in. Two dining areas, a counter and some outside seating. This is great breakfast meets comfort food in the perfect setting. I've dined here five times and I'm more impressed with each visit. I don't know the managers name but he's been here every time I have and is always on top of his game. This morning he was in the open kitchen working his ass off, making one great plate after another. My favorite menu item is the house made corned beef hash. They make it right before your very eyes on the other side of the counter...loaded with some of the finest corned beef I've ever had. The chicken and waffles are something of true legend. The full order comes with a half chicken (great, crispy skin and flavor) and a Belgian style waffle with strawberry butter that's to die for. Your server brings a small bowl of maple syrup and mixes in Louisiana hot sauce at the table as a finishing touch. I've also had the crab cake benedict which was also fabulous. I can't even fathom how much weight I will gain if they ever grace Tallahassee with a restaurant but I'm willing to take that risk. read more

I love Metro. But my experience here last Saturday was bad. I ordered the chicken pot pie with biscuit and sausage/gravy. The chicken pot pie was very bitter. The biscuit was very hard. I came around 5 pm that day and I guess nothing is fresh. Usually I go in the morning for brunch so this time it was very sad. When my server came by, I asked her to take away my plates cus I am the type of person where I will just eat and be grateful that I have food on the table but this time I just couldn't. read more

I have eaten at the Metro Diner almost a half dozen times and have never been disappointed. You cannot beat the breakfast. The hash browns are to die for, and you cannot go wrong with the biscuits and gravy. For lunch and dinner the meatloaf is amazing, and the Pittsburgh steak salad is an interesting taste of the steel city. The staff is wonderful, and the place has that old school diner feel. I highly recommend sitting at the counter. You will be amazed at how fast the cooks move. Offering free to go beverages after your meal is a great touch that does not go unnoticed. We went to the original one in Jacksonville. It's old time diner feel is authentic We ate at the.bar which was perfect. We had front row seats for all the plates being served. 3rd Visit 3 separate locations. This marks the third visit for us at the Metro Diner restaurants. We were amazed to learn that while each of the restaurants are all part of a franchise, there are differences. Several months ago we visited the St. Petersburg location and were disappointed with the food and service. That location attempted to make it up to us by sending coupons for further visits. Recently, on vacation, we had the pleasure of visiting TWO Las Vegas locations: The first: 7305 Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas. Nv. We were waited on by John who was a Jersey transplant so we are going to call him John from Jersey, and we must say, John changed our mind on the Metro Diner as a whole. Additionally, and to our amazement, the food was wonderful and very tasty unlike the St. Petersburg location even though the franchise explains the food should be identical. it is not and neither was the service. John is a credit to this location was very attentive and simply just a good waiter. The second location: 249 North Stephanie Street, Henderson, Nv. We were waited on by Sierra, who, like John, a transplant from another State. Sierra explained she was a RN who came to Henderson to work as a Nurse but discovered she was better suited to work as a waitress. What a blessing for this location, again, the people make the location. Also, here again, the food was wonderful. St. Petersburg location needs to pay attention. Other franchise owner seems to make the Metro Diner work. Five stars Nevada, and two wonderful employees. read more

The February chill was starting to fade, but our patio seating was comfortable, thanks to the well-positioned heaters. Service was prompt and adequate, despite the full house. Friendly service by everyone including the grill chefs...that alone deserves 5 stars. Then there's the portion sizes of every plate that came out, another well deserved 5 stars. The large variety of menu items for such a small diner normally would be a bad thing but they are organized and obviously well trained and skilled workers managing all aspects of this restaurant and their designated positions. I liked also they all seemed to be enjoying themselves, the customers and each other. The food was fresh tasting, flavorful, & it was obvious quality ingredients were used. We sat next to the food delivery station and to see the plates, the variety, the portions, the fastness of it all was a fun part of our first experience. I love their chicken and waffles. Went in on Saturday 7/28/18 and was seated fairly quickly. I ordered my favorite meal...chicken and waffles with strawberry butter. When my meal arrived I noticed that the waffles were cold, the butter just sitting atop them unmoving. The manager, I wish I remembered his name, Recognized that I was looking at the food in a disapproving manner. He instantly jumped into action and it was not long before I was prevented with fresh hot waffles to eat along with that wonderful and moist chicken.
