We arrived a little after the lunch rush on a Saturday and the place was still packed but they were turning over tables fast so we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Our served was with us in good time and came back to take our order quickly. It was hard to choose because the menu is huge with everything from all-day breakfast to sandwiches to full meals. Our group got a bit of everything. Qll of it was solid, and the portions were good sized. There was nothing amazing, but nothing to complain about either. It's a classic diner, and it delivers on what you expect from that. In the case of the pesto pasta it's maybe even a little more than what you expect! For New York City the prices are reasonable for what you get. Don't come in expecting a quiet and leisurely meal. As with any diner in the city at lunch time it is loud and hectic and you get a bit packed in for the space, but if you can't handle that you probably shouldn't be at a diner in New York. This place was a boon for lunch. It was crowded when we arrived, but we were seated in a few minutes. The menu is extensive. I had a hard time deciding what to get--brea or lunch? I came here for breakfast and the food was inedible. The food was really bad and it was upsetting because I use to come here as a kid with my parents. The food was really good so it was disappointing to taste their food now and how horrible it has become. We ordered French toast and the rice bowl and loaded fries. The loaded fries were cut up slices of cheese on top of it, we returned it. The French toast was soggy and tasteless. The rice bowl had hard rice and was dry and had no flavor. The service was ok even though it was a bit rushed. I am not sure if it was an off day or something. I had great memories here but unfortunately I will not be back. read more

Prices have gone up obviously but still a decent diner, especially for the area. On a hot day, I could only feel the fans running, so we asked to be moved to the back room, away from the kitchen. It was noticeably cooler there, but the booths were too small, especially if you're a person who eats the lumberjack pancakes like my partner does. Before "The Beastie Boys" were famous, one of the early band members lived in the top floor apartment of this small building on Broadway & 100th Street, upstairs from this diner. As teenagers, they always went there after school to practice their first music. This building is the birthplace of that legendary band. The restaurant had this cool retro vibe so we gave it a try for breakfast. Ordered an omelet and my wife ordered a waffle and eggs. The omelet was burnt and looked disgusting so I kindly asked that they just redo it as a scramble. Absolutely everyone in our group enjoyed their entrees. Sitting outside at one of their large tables, we marveled at how quiet the street was. In addition to providing excellent service with a friendly demeanor, the staff was exceptionally conscientious: About five minutes after we left, I discovered I'd left an expensive tripod behind. I ran back and they recognized me immediately. Rather than take chances, they'd already taken it inside for safekeeping, so one of them went in to retrieve and return it to me. Super crunchy and delicious. The potato skins were very large spuds cut in half with gooey cheese and bacon with a side of sour cream. Very filling on its own. The part that wowed me though was I wanted some cocktail sauce for my shrimp. I asked the server for some but he didn't think they had any so he asked one of the owners. The owner actually went in the back and made me some fresh cocktail sauce for my shrimp-- and it was sooooo good. They seem to know that service matters which is rare these days. Me and my family had breakfast at Metro Diner on Broadway this morning. The restaurant was quaint and clean. Our server was friendly and efficient. We were a party of 8 and our orders came out promptly. I had the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs with Home fries which was good. My mom had the pancakes which she stated were equally good with crisp bacon and good coffee. Other family members also had the pancakes, the French toast and omelettes. Everyone seemed satisfied. Metro Diner looked great at my 8:30am coffee time this morning. I figured they wouldn't charge that much for a coffee to go, and the tables outside looked comfortable. As soon as I entered the nice man at the register welcomed me with a cheerful "Good Morning ". I told him I was happy to be there and how beautiful the place looks. It's clean and super comfortable with lots of seating inside. There's partitions between booths and plenty of room to social distance. I ran around undisturbed taking photos like a crazy woman. This place has an atmosphere I love. It was very early in the day so it wasn't too busy. I did see one booth with customers being served in the back. I returned to the front and ordered my small black coffee to go. It's really good coffee. I was only charged $2. I felt comfortable sitting outside in front. It's located in a nice neighborhood with a friendly atmosphere. I'm definitely going back to order from the menu when I am ready for a meal. I like the old school diner vibe complete with coat hooks near the table for when winter comes. I'm recommending you visit. read more
