we have eaten here several times prior to the pandemic and ordinarily their food is tasty. We ordered take out of 2 orders of chicken wings. While placing the order on the phone, I explicitly asked for them to cooked extra crispy. Not only were they not extra crispy; they were not done. We had to place them in the oven to cook another 20 minutes. I was just so disappointed. I don't know what happened but in their hastiness to get the order out they failed...please especially when the customer is ordering take out make sure the food is done. read more

We stopped in for a short break during a long drive expecting standard diner fare. Metro and our server Doug far exceeded our expectations. Between us we had the chicken parm sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, the chicken tender salad and meatloaf. All were excellent, with homemade tastes, textures and freshness. This was my second time coming here and it left much to be desired. The first time we visited there was a wait (which is to be expected) but they got us sat in no time. However, both times it has taken a few minutes for us to actually be greeted by a server. As a former server I understand it gets busy but you should always at least acknowledge the table and let them know you'll be right over.Both times the wait to be greeted has exceeded 5 minutes. When the server does arrive both times they've been extremely friendly & seemingly efficient but the order comes out wrong. I believe that may be due to the ordering system still being new & they've rectified it both times so it isn't a deal breaker. The food itself is just OK. The chili is phenomenal, the chicken and waffles were good, everything else is meh except the pound cake French toast which is flat out horrible. I would like to add that the second visit the mgr realized there was a mixup with the order and came over promptly to apologize for the inconvenience and actually comped a few items from our check which was thoughtful of him since it was just an issue with our eggs. It's worth a visit, I'm looking forward to going back and trying some different items off of the lunch menu. read more

We both ordered the Spicy Honey Biscuit Breakfast sandwich and added an egg on top for an additional $1. Totally worth it! It was the perfect size, so filling and not overly greasy. I wanted to like this place. Unlike most diners i've visited this one appears to have character in the interior. Food is unremarkable diner food. Not particularly great but not good, edible. Could have been three stars, but for most disorganized staff. Perfectly likable kids, i'm sure they all sincerely mean well but just totally unengaged from helping patrons. Personally I was helped reasonably fine albeit slow (with just a couple of minor misses). Next to me a gent with his wife had to wait forever, even had to walk up to hostess stand to get someone to come over. Another couple clearly got unwanted food. I wasnt close enough to hear whether order was wrong or there was something wrong with the food. It took quite a bit to sort it out. The staff didnt appear to be unhelpful or anything just indifferently slow. I wont bore you but i saw two more examples. All that said, the place is always crawling with people waiting for a seat. The food honestly isnt bad. Maybe I just got unlucky this once. read more

I love this place.. the food is amazing the servers are polite however the last 3 times I've gotten takeout from here I've waited over 10 minutes just to be helped.. everyone stares at me but no one asks if I've been helped until they've walked past me about 5 or 6 times. I sit there and watch my food get cold as the employees just look at me and keep walking.. no one seems to know what's going on. On a good note the manager with the black hair and the glasses does an amazing job and I NEVER have this issue when he is in house.. it's unfortunate I don't recall his name because he always makes sure I have a good experience. read more

Ive eaten there a couple times, it's usually pretty good, not expensive, but recently went on a friday for lunch, with a family member, we both had tuna melts, i had a side salad. The salad was good, but the tuna was very salty, like someone dumped a tablespoon of salt in the tuna mix. Disappointing. Will go back but probably wont order a tuna melt again. read more

Road trip 2019 was blessed with this stop. I had the chicken and waffles with strawberry butter let me say that again strawberry butter. Omg the butter was on different level. New review - had to change my rating from 5 stars to 2. Picked up a take out order there this morning - biscuits and gravy. The gravy had been so watered down that I needed a spoon. It was seriously the consistency of water! I've had this same problem twice before at Metro - but I was eating IN so I could address the issue and get something else to eat. But when it's a takeout order and you live 15 minutes from the restaurant - you're really at their mercy to get it right because I'm certainly not going to drive BACK to get a replacement. Really really disappointed - if you have to add water to the gravy to make it stretch - just don't put it on the menu!!! Previous Review : We love Metro Diner - have eaten at several locations. This one is our favorite though - primarily because of Noel. I think every single time we've been there she's been working. ALWAYS extremely pleasant and personable. WOW! We visited the Metro Diner in Newark today and the food and service was outstanding. As I am writings this, I still have syrup on chin and shirt, Yummy! The food was fresh and served hot which added to its deliciousness. The Metro's waffles are simply outstanding, nice and crispy goodness on the outside and soft yumminess inside. The omelets are extra fluffy and yummy too. We had the veggie omelet today (Good Friday) and being a meat lover, it was not missed with this omelet. Now, let me introduce to our phenomenal Server, Trevor! Trevor is both a server and a servant (of King Jesus). He greeted us we a delightful disposition, he was courteous, engaging and kind. Trevor kept my coffee cup filled (and hot), he checked on us, he made us fill like we were the only customers that matter in a busy Diner. Trevor happiness, smiles and genuine kindness was contagious. He made our experience extra special this morning. I went to a Metro Diner while on a trip to VA and was excited to see it open up in DE. Went for dinner on a Sunday night and was just a bit disappointed. Not enough to say anything to the manager when he came to the table, but that was mostly because we were still eating. My husband had Pot roast...it was a little watery but a fairly portion. He seemed to enjoy the meal, but was bummed when he had to ask for bread and then butter. I had the fried seafood special, which was shrimp and cod. I found it very bland and would not order anything breaded there, unless you like excessive amounts of breading. Breaking could be good...but it was just not. No flavor :( The service was friendly and mostly attentive. We will try again, but for breakfast. read more

I loved this restaurant prior to the COVID19 situation. I frequented it at least 1-3 times a week and got to know the cooks and the servers and vice versa. The food and service was always wonderful. Day 2 after the COVID19 restrictions are lifted and I decided to support this business and enjoy a good meal. I was expecting more than great food tonight. I was expecting all employees, managers included, to be properly wearing PPE - masks and gloves. I was happy to see the greeter and my server wearing gloves and masks, with masks covering both noses and mouths. What astounded me was seeing the manager incorrectly wearing his mask, setting a bad example for his staff. I remarked to him that his was not properly worn and his excuse was it "fogs the glasses". I explained how to fix this and he did - but only temporarily. Shortly after that, he is behind the counter - cooking my meal that I ordered, again with his mask below his nose. I should have walked out. I should have stood up for myself, but I didn't. Shame on me. Shortly after watching him prepare my meal without his mask on correctly, I noticed another cook wearing his below his nose as well. Until they ALL properly wear their masks while preparing food and serving their customers, I will not be back. I mentioned my discomfort to the server before I left. I hope they take this more seriously ASAP. read more
