Came here for Valentine's Day with both my ladies (Wife & Daughter) and there were plenty of great tasting and great looking options for us all: even the vegans. Service seemed overwhelmed or at least slow to start, but the food and attention from the Manager on the back-end made up for it...plus they found an off-menu dessert item to satiate a specific request from my Daughter, so they get huge points. We stepped in the Metropolitan early Saturday morning because we saw that they served fresh juices and being the juicing people we are, we thought..hey let's get a juice! Obviously we were the first people in the door and Emily has just gotten her first cup of Joe started in her system. The juice took some time for her to prepare and while we waited at the bar I perused the menus. All of the menus looked great, everything being themed "from farm to kitchen" locally grown and raised. Mr. Man got a amazing beet themed juice that was well, amazing. I went for the detox juice and was happy as well. It was so good to have juice and a healthy option available on our mini-vacation. We decided to continue on down our walk around Annapolis and explore the city some more, but ended up returning for breakfast a few hours later. I decided to use the restroom before ordering and was not pleased to find sopping wet towels outside the bathroom door. Upon entering the restroom the smell of over-flow toilet assailed my nose. On top of which, the floor was obviously VERY wet and there had been a flood or overflow. A hand-written sign stating "out of order" was tacked on the bathroom stall door. I wasn't pleased to have to tip-toe around a dirty, smelly bathroom. Returning to the table, the booths were dirty, the carpets obviously stained and smelly as well. In general, I found the entire restaurant unsanitary, and of course I questioned why I chose to dine there. Don't even entertain thought about what the kitchen must look like. The food was not to temperature, the service was SLOW. Water wasn't refilled, coffee wasn't refilled. We waited over 10 minutes for our check to be picked up. Metropolitan Kitchen, I love your concept. Your execution sucks and seriously...invest in some cleaning products & use them! The juice and the coffee were highlights, but after witnessing the un-cleanliness....I'm just not sure I want to risk my health or spend my money. Good luck! read more

Maybe the hipster crowd doesn't eat? Or they don't have taste buds? Me? I can't stand this place. Okay okay, we went with a group. I get it, we can't expect the same service. I won't even question the service because she did the best she could. I will, however, question everything else. The specialty drinks there are expensive. And small. And VERY inconsistent. I had one drink that was great, ordered the same one again and it was undrinkable (literally, and I love whiskey straight). Another person ordered in the group and it was Okay. Not acceptable, no matter how busy the bar is serving Pabst. The restaurant concept is "Farm to Table" yet none of the ingredients really seemed local. Or that fresh. Whatever, as long as the food is good right? Well, that isn't right either. We start ordering and the GM or Expeditor or SOMEONE from the back kitchen comes out and starts yelling at our waitress, INFRONT OF US, to not take our orders because the kitchen is backed up. Um, Excuse me, that's not the way to handle the situation. Tell the table nicely. We'll understand, and probably buy a few more drinks anyways. We're here already. So she runs off, and comes back later to tell us it's a 30 minute wait, MINIMUM. Whatever, put our orders in anyways. I got the short ribs with pureed vegetables. YUCK. The sauce was flavourful. The meat was bland, the veggies were bland, and the dish was COLD. Um.....with a kitchen in the weeds, dishes should not have time to sit around. They should be coming out piping hot and if anything, under cooked. Not sitting around. Some of the table did dessert. We were completely unsatisfied with everything and opted out. Glad we did, those who ordered were disappointed. We won't be back. But I can't imagine this place will be around for much longer. There's a huge hipster crowd there, so maybe the $1.50 Pabst Blue Ribbon cans will keep them in business a little longer, but the food here is not worth the space it takes up on the plate. If you want TRUE farm to table food, go to Founding Farmers in DC, where they do everything right. Not only was the food bad and the drinks inconsistent, it was INCREDIBLY pricy for the "quality" of the food. Overall, 1 star. And only because I can't assign zero stars. Went to Metropolitan for drinks only so I can't vouch for the dining experience. As a place to have a drink and socialize it's a winner. There is a second floor bar with seating area and dining area. On the 3rd floor there is a pretty tight rooftop lounge that is half under cover. There are outdoor heaters set up for cool weather. The decor and vibe is modern minimalism. The service was friendly and attentive. Def. a place to which I would return. read more

Great food, quality drinks, good bands, don't understand the 3* rating. I came here for dinner recently with some coworkers while on a business trip. Cool, chill place with a very solid mixed drink list and really interesting menu. First, the drinks. Had a Mule and Bee - nice and tart, really good. Then put a test to the bartender - wow. Wow. Was one of the 10 best mixed drinks I've ever had. Dude has serious skills and premixed ingredients I've never heard of. For appetizers, we ordered the mussels and the duck meatballs. I don't eat shellfish, but the duck meatballs were great - good sauce, nice and tangy, sweet, and just good. For my entree, I got the grilled salmon and split a side of the mac&cheese. My salmon was nicely prepared and really tasty. The Mac&Cheese was really cheesy and a bit heavy, all around pretty good. My coworkers' entrees were all good, they were very happy with their meals as well. I was only there on a Wednesday night so no chance to see the place as anything more than a restaurant, but saw Black Taxi, a great band I know from NYC playing there for $8. Pretty cool. Net, it's a great restaurant with high quality mixed drinks, a solid beer list and a cool atmosphere. That's good enough for me, and it should be for you too. read more

I came here twice during a trip to Annapolis for a conference. The first was during PWC's sponsored happy hour, and hot damn this spread was on point!!A bunch of professionals networking, but really talking about how delicious the pasta & sliders were! We were on the second floor for the event, and it felt open and spacious. The second time I came was for a sponsored lunch, and the second floor was transformed into a beautiful space. It could've been a bridal shower with the fresh flowers, white tables and chairs, and candles! My girly heart was happy. And I knew I had some tasty food coming my way. Unfortunately, they must've forgot this large party was coming. They were slow slow slow!!! And they knew about this catered event months in advance, and if nothing else were reminded how many heads to expect when they set up those pretty tablescapes! And don't even get me started with trying to pay! It was a pre fixed menu, cash only affair too. Both times the staff were friendly, and facilities clean. read more

2.5 We went to the new Metropolitan last night, and I was underwhelmed. The space is fun, loud, and energetic, but the food was just not that great. My party ordered a variety of small plates to start. The duck meatballs were bland, the scalloped potatoes were delicious but waaaaay overpriced (the four pieces of scalloped potatoes equaled one small potato for $5), the chicken and waffles were good but not delicious. We then ordered the foodie burger which was $14 and came as nothing more than a small plain burger with mushrooms on top! Not worth $14. Overall, just average food, not good enough for me to want to return for dinner. Maybe I will try brunch, based on the good reviews here. I wanted sooooo badly to love the "new" Metropollitan. From their website, I already knew I loved the mission statement and from previous visits, as this space has been many other establishments, I already knew I loved the atmosphere. Upon entering, I loved the decor of the expanded space which contains their "liquor bar"; sort of nouveau farmer. The first bad sign happened before reaching the table; the many flights of stairs leading to the roof level, where I chosen to dine, were filthy, covered in food debris. I dined on a Sunday night, which may have been my first mistake. The kitchen closes early on Sunday and they are closed on Monday. Therefore, they were out of several items. A very nice bartender was also our server, as they had cut the actual server due to the slow night. So, he was balancing his bar customers and the terrace diners and, as nice as he was, just wasn't the same service I expect. We ordered the artisanal cheese platter to start, which was such a disappointment. It seemed like they put a few pedestrian cheeses left hanging around the kitchen from other menu items haphazardly on the board (the cheeses weren't described by the aforementioned bartender/server but you could easily tell it was a slice of mozzarella, a slice of cheddar and a piece of goat). The remainder of the food was hit or miss. The chicken was dry, but the lima beans it was served with were out of this world, and so on and so forth with the other entrees. And then to dessert...a delicious chocolate layered something or other (it was described as being a chocolate souffle, but was nothing of the sort). I wanted to keep eating, but then the whipped cream was bad (not just bad tasting but rancid or somehow tasting of chemicals that burned on the tongue). This was removed from the check, but so disappointing. This is a new establishment (sort of) and I'd love to love it. Will try again and hope for a better experience. The staff were very, very friendly and the ambiance is lovely. The craft beer selection is great and the pricing very, very reasonable. The rooftop is a great place to be seated, and like nothing else in Annapolis. As a long time resident, I'm always hoping for something wonderful to spice up this lack luster food town. Maybe in time the new Metropolitan will fit the bill. read more

I first tried Metropolitan on it's opening night, and loved it--it was beautiful, open, airy, and with a rooftop bar (something that more places in Annapolis should have and don't). I also decided that it was far too trendy and modern to survive as anything other than a gay bar (a la Tsunami, owned by the same people). Fortunatley, I was wrong. Where most bars in Annapolis are your traditional dark, wooden, closed off Irish pubs, Metropolitan is bright and hip. It exudes vibrance, is sleek, streamlined, cheery, and hip, something that is fairly new to the Annapolis area. Great for when you want a break from the dark, dank, smokey bar you've been sitting in all afternoon. read more

I had their special "Verde" burger and it was probably the best burger I've ever had! It came with bacon, cheese, and a delicious jalapeño and cilantro aioli that topped it off perfectly. I had my wife take a bite and she completely agreed. The potato wedge fries were cooked in some sort of magical bacon juice which was delicious. I had our waiter pay complements to the chef for a job well done. Definitely coming back. read more

This place rocks! Everyone said to go to Miss Shirley's Cafe down the street, but we weren't going to wait an hour to eat breakfast. Here we got right in, and the food was spectacular! I had the Grilled Cheese with Fries and my husband had the Biscuits and Gravy with eggs. This wasn't your ordinary grilled cheese, it had pesto and bacon, tomato and spinach as well and the fries were fresh and covered with garlic and Parmesan. So good! The Gravy was full of chunks of sausage and the taste was phenomenal, the biscuits were fluffy and delicious and the eggs were full of flavor. I would of given this place a 5 star, but the hostess had an attitude and I always think the customer deserves a smile along with a hello. Other than that, I would totally recommend this place over Miss Shirley's any day! read more

I tried this place for the first time for my birthday Friday June 18th, My waitress was Mary. She was very good at letting us know which drinks were good to order and what was great on the menu. This cucumber drink is very refreshing. I also ordered lobster bisque that was too salty so i sent it back.. They have a fried potato appetizer that is worth getting. I ordered the short ribs and besides needing a little seasoning were really good. They came with mashed potatoes and broccolini. The mashed potatoes were very good paired with the short ribs. My Girlfriend had Shrimp and grits, but the grits were a little more course than I usually like them, but the dish was worth getting again. The star was the bread pudding. It was excellent and came with whipped cream on the side with blueberries. The blueberries confused me due to not having a blueberry syrup on the plate. My only wish is that the restaurant start serving ice cream with this dish. There was no ice cream on the menu. Tragic for such a delicious dessert. read more

We tried this restaurant because of the farm to table concept. I left thinking the chef must be a cheap find right out of a community college cooking school program. Burgers & fries were the only thing we found palatable and even they were average. I had the lamb burger which was tasty but certainly not a reason to go back. A fellow diner had bouillabaisse which was bordering on unidentifiable & inedible. Another had short ribs which were tender but bland and just off. I also ordered a side of brussel sprouts which came out blackened - like with the seasoning. I almost had to spit them out they were cooked to the point of mush and all you could taste was raw blackening seasoning all over them. Big disappointment. Even my salted beet salad was clearly canned beets diced up. Come on guys...really? You think we wouldn't notice?? Does seem to be family friendly as there were kids all over the place playing hide and seek while their parents dined in the bar. Having kids myself I think this is fabulous but if I was 25 I would think this was wierd. I'd go back for the bar scene with friends and perhaps a burger just to put something in my stomach and continue drinking. The cocktail I ordered was decently good actually. I am sure the roof top is fun in season but as for a memorable dinner...Skip it. read more

Love this place. I've been here a dozen times over the past few years and the food and service is excellent. The roof top is super cute for dinner or in the evening, there's a bar up there too. I highly suggest the fig and goat cheese flatbread (seriously, it's epic). But you can't go wrong w anything - veggie sides, burgers, fish, cheese boards. It's all great. Metropolitian, you continue to make me happy! Great food, great music, and great drinks! I decided to take my father to the met as he was visiting from out of town. In full disclosure, I am super nervous about taking him to resturants in general- he's the type change his order, send it back, and is a server's nightmare. Anyways, we were seated and greeted promptly by our server. We decided to go with the suggested flatbread to start off-- delish! For our entrees, I got the super yummy and filling farmers plate. At the suggestion of the server, Dad ordered the scallops dish. I was a little worried that the entree's would take awhile, because it was a busy friday night, and they were packed. Nope, the food came out fairly quickly and was cooked perfectly. The scallops were perfect. Dad was happy and i was relieved. I just wish I'd saved room for some of the decedent looking desserts. Additionally, I saw Metropolitan serving up sizzling brick chicken and falafel bites at the recent Junior League gala charity event in downtown Annapolis. It made me love them even more to know that they were so engaged and committed to serving the Annapolis community. read more

Check the menu first- we were looking for healthier things and didn't check it til we got there and the main courses were a little indulgent! But delicious none the less. When to see a friends band perform and this was a wonderful venue. We arrived early and enjoyed and wonderful dinner, the server was polite and quick. All the food we had gotten was spot on and worth every penny. After dinner we went upstairs and got ready for the performance. There was a upstairs bar and a few tables, again a great atmosphere, and friendly service. Me and my husband were both quite impressed with everything. The band performed and the sound system was great, it was well maintained and crisp. There is some parking along the street but it's limited. So I suggest the parking garage directly behind the building, it was only $3 when we went and parking was plentiful. read more

Finally an outstanding brunch in Annapolis. It's trendy and attractive without being pretentious, and the food is absolutely top-notch. Located near the outer traffic circle on West, the Metropolitan is strategically located between Annapolis' beautiful historic district and the primary hotel area, making it an easy stroll for both locals and visitors. Nice job with that! The atmosphere is trendy and attractive, and the natural light that comes through the big windows in the morning make it a great place to relax and enjoy their delicious food and coffee. The coffee is supplied by Caffe Pronto, which is by far the best tasting coffee roaster in the region. I tried the Flat White, which is a strong Australian espresso-based drink recommended by the owner, who happens to have an Australian accent. I like strong coffee but something about this drink wasn't what I was expecting- perhaps it was the fact that I didn't put any sugar in it. It was good, better than Vegemite anyway, but I think I'll opt for the Cap next time instead. The owner introduced himself to us and mentioned that before he opened his other restaurant in town, Tsunami, he had considered opening a place in Ballard, Washington. Score! It looks like a tremendous dinner location as well. It has an attractive rooftop dining area with nice views and a microbrew list featuring a few of my favorite West Coast locals. read more

My husband and I have been to the Met just a handful of times, but every time we have gone it's been a lot of fun. We enjoyed everything from the people watching, to their eclectic drink menu, to just simple, good, and healthy food. I am bummed to read some of the not-so-positive reviews, but I have never experienced poor service, etc. and found the owner(s) quite nice and interesting when chatting them up. I guess it is all about the individual experience and perspective of the diners, but from my experience, thoroughly enjoyable - particularly on nights when there is a DJ and/or a musician entertaining us. Went here for "date night" with my wife. We had stumbled across the place one afternoon and had coffee and an appetizer, and it was excellent - good peppermint latte, good coffee and the waitress nicely improvised a hot chocolate for our kid. Service was good. But our return visit was not nearly as satisfying. It began - and ended - with horrid service. Just brain-dead service. Our waitress took our drink order. She returned a full 15 minutes later, and asked if she had taken our drink order! Onto the food... Our cheese-plate appetizer was fine. But it's hard to screw up slices of cheese: two good cheddars and a blue (which the waitress could only identify as "blue cheese"). Entrees: El Wife got a seafood casserole, which was bland. It tasted like something my grandma would have made out of Betty Crocker for "fancy" night, thinking she was really going to impress grandpa. It wasn't bad, just... meh. My roasted rosemary chicken was nicely seared. But I could not taste the rosemary at all. Instead, the skin was coated in what tasted like a molasses and herb kind of baste - it was sweetish. The chicken itself? It tasted and chewed as if reheated. If I had to bet, I would say the chicken had been slow-baked or boiled off at least two days prior, and broiled to order. However, the mac-and-cheese side was sublime! Annnnnnnd. That's about when our waitress truly disappeared for about 20 minutes. I'm leaving out about 15 just lame-o moves - or non-moves - from the wait staff this night. Our dessert - a very flat "apple pie egg roll" kind of thing. I do love local restaurants that aspire to care about food. So I might give Metro another chance. But at this point, they seem to have one thing going for them: an ambitious menu with tons of potential. What they are lacking, from the wait staff to the food, is execution. I hope they get it... cause I do wanna like this place. read more

Awful! Simply awful! I have nothing positive to say about my dining experience at Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge. We went for Breakfast on a Sunday and the place wasn't that busy. We were seated at a very odd table - the ONLY one that was in a place totally devoid of natural light. So we moved.... The menu looked interesting enough but every single one of our dishes ranged from disappointing to completely tasteless. My husband and I had the biscuits and gravy (his with ham, mine with duck confit) and by biscuitS they really mean, just ONE biscuit. This turned out to be OK because it, and the gravy on top of it were tasteless anyway! The gravy literally tasted like butter and flour - c'mon, this is not a challenging thing to make!! I was so disappointed. The potatoes that came with it were luke warm when served. The Vegetarian stuffed pepper might have been the most successful but I'd still only give it a C - so that's not saying much. The service was horrible and even neglectful. I ordered a fruit plate which never came. One of our friends had pancakes but syrup wasn't brought to him. In fact, my husband and I were done with our dishes before we even saw the server again to ask her for syrup. We sat around debating whether or not we would express our disappointment to the server about, well, everything, but she never even bothered to ask us how our meals were so we didn't get the opportunity. The only positive of the experience is that we saw Kevin Spacey while we were there. Not that that makes me want to give this place another star because it doesn't even deserve the ONE I'm giving it. I was already a fan of this spot before I entered the door. Having been Metro once before I was excited to try it again after it reopened. I loved Latin Quarter for it's ambiance so knew I'd love the Roof Top Bar. When I walked in the door I was surrounded by groups of people talking, laughing and enjoying great drinks and food. I was instantly hooked. I went here on a Friday night around 8pm so I was expecting a wait. There was none except for the rooftop bar which was where I wanted to be. There was a private party which was ending so that was the only hold up. After a girlfriend met me in the bar we sat there and waited for our table. When it was ready we were lead up the 5 HUGE flights of stairs. *Warning don't do this when intoxicated :) * We were brought the menu which consisted of Entrées, Flatbreads, Small Plates, Burgers , Desserts and Salads. We wanted to try a bunch of things so we opted first for the Crab and Artichoke dip. It was to die for. So creamy I could have eaten it with a spoon. We next tried the Duck Meatballs - which I was really disappointed with. They weren't bad, just didn't taste really like much of anything and for 8.00 it definitely wasn't worth it. For drinks, I started with my favorite a Caipirinha (can never say it right). This one was with Orange and Basil which was unique! My friend tried the Granadilla which was a fruity drink she loved. The second drink I tried was the Chrysalis - Gin, Lemon, Grapefruit, Crème de Violette (what?) Jasmine Liqueur, VERY unique stuff but my waitress suggested it. It was floral obviously but a very interesting drink worth trying! Our last order was the Veggie Flatbread. SO good. Happy Hour has $5 Burgers and Flatbreads so I will definitely be back!! read more

Not great. Went for lunch and the place was empty. It felt awkward being there. I had the black-eyed pea tacos, and while the black-eyed pea fritters were good, the whole dish was underwhelming with just a single piece of lettuce in each taco and a wilted side salad (which the menu said was included, but I was upcharged $2 for). (4/5/2016) Was headed to Rams Head On Stage to see a show, decided to check out Metropolitan for some drinks and nosh beforehand (having read the terrible reviews for the food and drink prices at Rams Head). Sometimes our friend's band (Skydivers) plays there, too. Place was bustling in the front room when we got there, seemed to draw a decent happy hour crowd from nearby state office buildings and law offices. Happy Hour is a steal, especially for the fancy cocktails (at $4 a pop). Got the "Acai of Relief," punny and refreshing. We shared a few small plates. Short Rib Flatbread was just OK, short rib was tender (they said it takes them 4 hours a batch to make). Bread itself was shaggy, probably not kneaded and rested enough, dense and not so much chewy as tough. The promised cherry BBQ sauce was mild, overall the flavor profile was just sweet and somewhat underseasoned. Shrimp and Grit Cakes came with a really well-seasoned tasso gravy that went well with the plain mounded grits (weird sooty smudges, but no further cooking, like griddling on the cakes). Shrimp were around U31-40 range, looked like had been through a few freeze-thaw cycles or were pre-steamed for some other dish and used to garnish this one. We really enjoyed the Rockfish Lettuce Wraps. I'm skeptical that the rockfish was really rockfish (as it's pretty expensive), my best guess is Corvina spp. from South America (frequently substituted in the restaurant distributor businesses for any mild, white, saltwater fish). Cajun-style blackened spice rub on the fish pieces had some nice kick, pico de gallo was fresh and crisp, and was a good foil for the fish and tender Bibb lettuce. Overall, was bright, rustic chic, casual, pretty welcoming (if you can avoid the large tables packed with grown-up bros bromancing with their $2 PBRs). Service started off slow, but picked up and got friendlier. Food was decent enough and priced OK for the area. I'd go back if in town for a show either there or nearby. read more

I can't say enough about this place. It is simply Gorgeous. I was introduced to Metropolitan for a "girls night out" earlier this year. We had dinner and stayed later drinking on the rooftop bar. The rooftop is phenomenal. We were there during sunset and drank in the breathtaking expanse of sky, open on two sides, enclosed by a solid glass wall. The white table settings are intended to not distract from the view and are effectively minimalistic. During the colder months they have radiant heaters and the bar is sheltered. But no matter what time of year, the view rocks. It's like visual refreshment. ;) The decor of the restaurant whole is very chic, yet somehow achieves a warmth and coziness at the same time. It's what I would call swanky-comfortable. ;) Great place to chose if you want to go high style or impress someone with discerning tastes. The food is very upscale. The portion sizes are smallish with an emphasis on the presentation. It is impeccable, gourmet in every way, the menu reads like a foodies dream. Expect to drop some serious cash (but your tongue will thank you). The only drawback is traversing the three flights of stairs to the rooftop bar (no elevator here). In heels, or with a little alcohol, that can become a challenge. But the view at the top is definitely worth the climb. read more

The food here is excellent with FRESH and nicely cooked food, but the service is disfunctional at best. We were going to a concert here later that night and I made a reservation with no problems. Considering it was Annapolis restaurant week and this location was participating I decided to make a reservation, which given the few tables in this restaurant, I recommend. We were seated with no problem, but when my wife asked for a new napkin since there was snot in her napkin, she was given a new dirty napkin. In the process of getting the napkin, my drink order was taken and my wife was not asked at all for a drink order. When the server did take our dinner order, she started with me rather than my wife and again didn't ask her for a drink order. My wife ordered a crabcake and I ordered the rockfish sandwich. The crabcake was one of the best my wife ever ate and the rockfish was very nicely lightly fried. The rockfish came with fresh cut fries and the fresh slaw was placed on top of the rockfish instead of on the side, which I would have put on the side to give the diner the option to put on the sandwich or eat seperately. Service was slow since it took about 20 minutes to get our food and the owner (not our waitress) was attentive. I had the owner get my parking validated, the owner brought us the dessert menu since the waitress didn't pay attention and didn't check to see if everything was ok. She eventually asked us for dessert after the owner already brought us the menu and took our order. He also was nice enough to get us drink refills before the concert. The concert was upstairs (bar and a few tablesare upstairs in addition to concert room) in a room that was designed to hold maybe 50 people and we had over 80 people there. The concert room is a nice, limited seated (2 sofas and 4 leather cubes to sit on in the back of the room) general admission (GA) venue. If you like the bar/GA club scene then this is fine, if not, then go elsewhere. As for restrooms, the downstairs restrooms seem to be the original building restrooms and not very clean. The restrooms upstairs are newly remolded and MUCH clear and spacious. The food was good enough to give one more chance to the restaurant. In the waitress' defense I think she was the only waitress for the WHOLE restaurant. I think if management got more staff for busy nights, it might GREATLY improve service. If the service continues to be disorganized, then I would suggest going to another fine establishment in the area. read more

I actually really enjoyed Metropolitan the first time I went. So when a couple of friends from out of town were visiting, I decided to take them there. There's not much to say except that the service was unbelievably slow. It took 10-15 minutes for our waiter to come greet us/take our drink order and only when we asked someone to send our waiter. We decided to order drinks and food at the same time to speed things up a bit. We waited about 35 minutes for our drinks and had our food arrive a few minutes afterward, having to eat our food with cocktails instead of being able to order wine like we wanted. Very disappointing experience, you should never have to wait that long just to get a drink! read more

Less than impressed. I was really excited to come back to Metroplitan and have brunch. I made a reservation, which wasn't needed, but nice to have. Upon being seated we saw the killer bottomless mimosa and bloody mary deal. For $11 you can drink all you want and even switch between the two! I thought we were off to a great start. We placed an order for an appetizer (Crab and Artichoke dip), but it never came. Waiting a little longer and never came. Finally, our waitress came back and took our orders, I ordered the Short Rib sandwich, the dip still didn't arrive. We inquired and without a word she left the table and placed that order with the kitchen. She told us what was going on, and our appetizer came out AFTER our meal. Just when it couldn't get any worse, my sandwich was cold. My fires were cold. Waiting again for the waitress, I inquired if the sandwich should be cold or not, she took away my plate to rectify the situation. AFter waiting about 10 minutes, a "new" reheated sandwich came out. She came back to ask how it was, and I told her it was still cold. Again, without saying a word, she left and didn't explain until she brought the check. She explained she took my sandwich off the bill due to the complications. The whole trip wasn't a waste. With the amazing bloody marys and the awesome dip, I would come back just for those two items. I appreciate the efforts of Metropolitan to comp my meal, but step up your game with your staff. read more

We come here once or twice a year and the only reason is because of the rooftop deck which is awesome on a pleasant night. But the food never lives up to our expectation. Always disappointing. Last night I had the braised short ribs flatbread and it was awful. more like a sweet tomatoey sloppy joe. Couldn't finish it (and I always eat everything on my plate!) This was highly recommended by our server??? Girlfriend had the steamed mussels, which were just passable. Sauce/broth was tasty but mussels were meh and the bread was either cheap or stale. Girlfriend said as we were leaving that despite the rooftop deck that this "was a waste of time and money". Despite this, I imagine we will find our way back here before year end but only for the deck. Food is barely two stars, deck is 4 stars, thus the three star rating. read more

I went to Met because i read reviews about it being veg friendly, which it definitely was. I was a little sad because when I went, the juicer was broken, but the waitress was VERY accommodating and offered to make me fresh squeezed lemonade- honestly, the best lemonade I have ever tasted! I ordered the lentil black bean burger and a small beet and greens salad. The waitress offered to replace the fries that the burger comes with with the salad for only a dollar more (originally a $6 salad). I thought that was another great accommodation. When the food game, the burger was a little bit bland. It could have used some salt and something to make it less dry, like honey mustard or a cucumber-cilantro-yogurt spread, which is the only reason why this place gets 4 stars. The salad was AMAZING. I don't know what kind of dressing they used, but it was to die for. Very light and refreshing. Overall, a great experience at Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge. read more

I am surprised to see so many negative reviews on here. My Annapolis crew holds Metropolitan in high esteem, and I had a nice dinner the other night. I'm told that I need to try their brunch (maybe next time Miss Shirley's is too full). It's not anything super fancy. The restaurant has a decent selection of craft beers and wine, as well as a number of appetizers/small plates. I got the trio of dips to share most recently, and all three of the trio were good (nice to see baba ghanoush outside of a Turkish restaurant). I was boring and got the Metropolitan burger for my entree, and it was exactly what I wanted. My girlfriend had the braised short rib, which I also tried at the insistence of the food runner (little did he know I was going to try it anyway). The short rib was succulent and fork-ready (no knife needed), and I also enjoyed the vegetable gouda mash. Service was quick and attentive. My only complaint is that Metropolitan does not accept Discover (wanted to get that 5% off!). read more

Positives -quick service -friendly staff -great ambiance -parking garage behind restaurant Negatives -the food was bland and was not appetizing (BBQ chicken sliders & seasonal veggies) -the prices were not comparable to the food. way, too expensive -my friends experienced the same disappointment with their food. Burger was decent. It had a peppery flavor, but wasn't the best I've ever had. Cooked medium and delivered exactly as order and quickly. Tap water served in large glass carafe and tasted amazing. Anyway, overall a fine experience for me. Not sure why more people weren't in the restaurant. We had an OpenTable reservation, but hardly anyone was here. read more

Great atmosphere, and the rooftop is very intimate. If you are up for climbing two flights of stairs (more than once because the bathroom is on the first level), and if you have a jacket or are very warm blooded (no outdoor heaters up there), then go for that rooftop.
