We just finished a great dinner with miles at the bar. Had a few coworkers out for an all-day happy hour and 10$ small plates. Best plates on the menu hands down is the dates pr the gnocchi. Holy cows. The sponge cake and the empanadas were really tasty for dessert. Def try the coffee drink on the menu if you like sweeter dessert drinks. A great spot for dinner! I am a sucker for a good rooftop (and during COVID days I will pretty much only eat outside) and Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge had a nice once. We got there on Saturday with a party of 4 around 6ish and only had to wait a few minutes to get a table. I think the best part about the menu is that there is a little something on there for everyone, all items felt like they had a special twist to them, and the price seemed reasonable for all of the dishes. We started with the meat and cheese board. Nothing really special here and honestly for $24, it was a but underwhelming. Not bad at all, just not really worth the price tag. My friend and I both ordered the salmon that came with broccolini and purple (!!!!) orzo. The salmon was cooked nicely with a garlicky sauce and roasted tomatoes on top. The orzo was good and so was the broccolini. The entire dish was super garlicky, but lucky for us - we were not there on first dates, so we both finished our plates! My husband ordered the short ribs and honestly this was a unique situation where he could not finish his meal. They were no skimpin on the short rib. So much of it and SO tender! My other friend got the fried chicken sandwich with the Met potatoes. He loved the sandwich and let me tell you, those Met potatoes are no joke. They are LARGE! He enjoyed them as well. An absolute diamond in the rough, this place is exquisitely hidden just outside city dock. I ate at Metropolitan for brunch last weekend. How have I not heard of this restaurant? I love the brunch menu. We started with the Bloody Mary's, mushroom gnocchi, tuna poke and salmon flatbread for appetizers. I really loved the gnocchi! It was delicious and comfort food for a cold day. I also enjoyed the tuna poke with the chips on the side. For the main dish, I had the lamb burger. I was already stuffed so I was only able to eat half of the lamb burger but I had no complaints. Second time here, even better than the first. To start, I'll quote my fiancée: "this is the only time I've ever commented on a mimosa where it wasn't a comment about the alcohol." The orange juice is so fresh, it's like they plucked an orange from the tree out back to make the drink. The guava mimosa is also fantastic. To be clear, the mimosas are not pure juice, you're getting your money's worth. Food-wise, you're gonna get an abundance of lox if you order the Lox Benedict, they don't scrimp. And can we please just call them "Delicious Potatoes" already? Calling them homefries is a huge disservice to these perfectly cooked, impressively seasoned potatoes. Finally, I had chopped ham in my omelette and it was independently seasoned and clearly not from the store, which may be nothing except that it demonstrates the care to which the chef(s) give each part of the meal. All around, A++ food. Lastly, rockstar service. The manager (possibly owner?) checked in after the food was served, which is always a nice gesture. He's a good guy. Hostesses and waitresses also fantastic, right amount of attention without being annoying - said as a compliment, of course - meaning we weren't constantly or unnecessarily being interrupted while also always having a beverage. I had brunch recently here and the food was great! We called day of for a reservation and showed up but they hadn't put it in the computer, but it caused no issues and they sat us right away still. The staff was friendly and on top of things. We split buratta and I had avocado toast. Everything was good although I wish the toast was toasted more. The "fries" with sandwiches are more like home fries with a twist but were good! I wish they had their rooftop open for brunch! read more

Hands down the best place to go for date night! Their COVID protocols are great which made us feel very comfortable! The place looked very small when we walked in but we didn't realize how big the restaurant was until we got seated! The hostess was friendly and the server assisted us almost right away. The server was very helpful and knew the menu well! We ordered the pan seared rockfish, black bean burger and a fig & goat cheese flat bread. Everything was great although my wife said the rockfish was a little fishy tasting(ironic, right? LOL). Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed our night at the restaurant! Brunch was so good we went back twice in one weekend...& brought friends! The service was quick and efficient. Servers wore masks and people were asked to wear masks while not at their table. If you're still not comfortable with eating out again, this place may not be for you... right now. I believe they are operating at full capacity now? Or at least that's what it felt like. As for the food! Delicious! The fig and goat cheese flatbread was my favorite. Had it both times I was there, once by accident cause the manager was so nice to give us an extra that was accidentally made, and the second time because the first time was so good. Great balance of flavors. Grits are super cheesy and good. Coconut milk pancakes are more dense than your average pancake but still good with the fresh fruit compote on top. Avocado toast was YUM! Poached eggs were cooked perfectly and just the right amount of balsamic sauce and tomatoes on top of a crunchy piece of bread. Smoked flatbread had good flavors and was great for brunch. $15 craft of mimosa was perfect for Saturday and Sunday brunch. Home fries are too salty for me but with the gravy, it was good. --COVID UPDATE-- Rooftop dining is open! I've eaten on the rooftop several times now in the past few years, and each time I'm surprised at how hot it is up there. There are a few shaded tables, but the majority are in the sun and they don't have umbrellas or sun shades up. The fans only hit a few of the tables, so be prepared to guzzle cold drinks. I've always liked their food and their service is consistently good. Get the tuna poke! Wow! THIS is how you treat your customers. When we arrived for our reservation the place was packed - every table was occupied. The party seated at our table overstayed their time. While we had to wait a half hour past our reservation to be seated, Metropolitan's staff treated us wonderfully! Erin & Gigi arranged for us to have cocktails. Our server Rachel was wonderful. When they were out of the wine we ordered, Gigi provided us a superb alternative from the wine cellar. They went over and beyond to make up for us having to wait. And by the way, the food was worth the wait! The diver scallops and the eggplant caponata were perfect. The duck confit was prepared to perfection and my short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We ended the evening with the chocolate grenache and the sponge cake, a fitting end to our dinner. By the way, while we were waiting a table did come available in the bar area. The bar was lively and energetic and we wanted a quieter table so we waited for the dining area (and were happy we did). The Annapolis Restaurant Week menu was what attracted us to Metropolitan. I came here for restaurant week Saturday night with two friends and it was great! I made a reservation through their online Resy app which was very easy. Service: Their service was solid, our waitress was attentive and brought answered our questions on the menu items. Food: WOW! I loved everything they had, we ordered the mushroom risotto, lamb polenta, and buratta for appetizers to share. Everything was delectable. The buratta was fresh and had a nice balance of acidity, while the risotto had a great earthy flavor and lots of mushrooms. The polenta was also good though I did not try the lamb. I ordered the rock fish with black rice and sauteed carrots. AMAZING! The fish was juicy and tender, and simply seasoned, the rice was creamy with sauteed onion and peppers mixed in. The carrots were sweet and tender. One of my friends ordered the shrimp and grits and that was amazing as well. Great flavors all around. For dessert I ordered the creme brulee-they were out of blueberries but it came with a whipped cream with a reduced balsamic/vanilla/bourbon glaze that was rich, smokey and a great balance to the sweetness of the custard. As far as atmosphere, it was mostly white folks and there is a step to enter the restaurant. I do not know if they have a separate ramped entrance so it may not be accessible and you should call to confirm if a step is a barrier for you. read more

Fun place to grab some food and a drink. We were staying across the street at the HGI and it was raining. We stopped in here because it was a favorite of our friends who used to live in the area. Lucky for us it was Tuesday, which means happy hour all night. We got there during the end of a typical hour time, but we scored 2 seats at the bar. The place was crowded and the wait stuff was hustling. We ordered the crab cakes and the mussels and both were delicious. Order extra bread when you get the mussels, because you will want it. Crab cakes were good, so we ended up ordering another one. Hard to beat a crab cake in MD for $10. The service was friendly and fun so give them a chance if you are in the area. read more

The organization I work for has held 4 cocktail receptions at Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge in the last 3 years. The staff is excellent, the food is great, and the rooftop is amazing. Tom was so easy to work with in terms of getting the place booked and picking the menu. Visited Annapolis for work recently and stopped in here for dinner. We were intrigued by the rooftop dining area they had. It was absolutely gorgeous, especially at sunset. Great view of the city and a beautiful setting to enjoy drinks and dinner. We started with the Fig & Goat Cheese Flatbread which was flavorful and a great start to the meal. I had the lamb burger which was delicious and it came with some of the best potatoes I've ever had! They were crispy and addictive. My colleague had the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich which was massive and super tasty. We also enjoyed a few glasses of wine. The service was quick and friendly. Went here for brunch as a party of 5. We were seated in the first dining/bar area, right when you walk in. It was extremely loud and we could barely hear each other for most of the time. I ordered the Chicken, Biscuits, and Gravy. It was really good and flavorful. I asked for French fries instead of the home fries. Our waiter unfortunately made this experience unpleasant. He seemed annoyed with any question or request we had such as for more napkins or another drink. When it came time to pay, that was a science experiment even though we split the bill equally 5 ways. Had it not been for our waiter and him making our dining experience unpleasant, I may have given 5 stars because the meal was good and they had other menu options that sounded good too. read more

Metro is a great place to hang with friends! It's a little noisy, but that's because there's a good crowd. We went on a Sunday afternoon and half of the tables were filled. Even with a group of 8 people though, there wasn't a wait. I ordered the lox eggs Benedict. It was pretty good. The egg yolk drilled perfectly when I cut into it. The hollandaise sauce and lox had plenty of flavor. No complaints about the English muffin. My friend ordered the fig and cheese flatbread. It was a little too cooked, leaving the bread hard. It was a super hot day outside and it was so hot in the restaurant too. We made our waiter aware of this and it didn't seem like much he could really do. We ordered food for the table to share including: chef burger with fries, chicken sandwich with fries, fig flatbread, and Greek salad. Literally every dish was delicious, hot and fresh. I have no complaints about the food but the drinks are another story. They just weren't good. That's including mine and my guests. Disappointed! I am eating gluten-free and vegetarian for this month for a health reason. I ordered the roasted eggplant Parmesan and was told they were out of that today. They only have about six items on the menu for someone who is GF and V and three of those are salads. I didn't want the veggie tacos so I got Brussel sprouts. They were swimming in maple syrup - way too much. I regrettably ordered a salad since they didn't have the eggplant. It was a huge bowl of lettuce with a small amount of feta, about four small cherry tomatoes, 5 slices of cucumber and some red onion. I came to visit this restaurant for the first time for brunch and was seated immediately. Our server was attentive and came over to take our drink order quickly. We ordered the MET Caipirinha, a sweet and light but refreshing option and the Passion of the Ice, a tequila based drink that was heavy in the pineapple and passion fruit flavors. Now to the food, I was impressed with the menu options and the prices. We ordered a few food options: tuna poke - it was prepared a little bit differently than what I'm used to, coated in a soy-sesame marinade with a hint of spice. It was good, but I would like to have able to see the tuna. Next, the pancakes - they were lukewarm and did not have any butter or blueberry compote but the waiter brought it over after we asked. The bacon was crispy, and the potatoes were seasoned well...nothing particularly special about the pancakes but a decent option and portion. Lastly, the fig and goat flatbread - the crust was thin and chewy, the fig and goat cheese complimented each other very well (although I could've used a lot more bacon) but overall it was pretty tasty. read more
