I usually order the same thing but this time I wanted to try something new, I asked the waiter what would you prefer the Carne guisada or carne en su jugo. got the en su jugo and it was full or flavor and super tasty. I think I found my new dish to order everytime
I asked the server if she preferred machaca or carnitas. She said machaca. I DID see it said with bell peppers and onions. I don't mind if they're chopped. I ended up picking out all the bell peppers and onions. The pieces were too big and not soft enough for my liking. With the green salsa the burrito was tasty. On its own, it lacked flavor. The burrito was very fresh but lacked seasoning. All the servers were very nice and attentive. I never needed to ask for anything because they were constantly available. They have their own parking lot shared with a few other businesses. They have a large covered outdoor patio and tables in front. Definitely more outside seating than inside. Inside was very festive with beautiful murals and art. I would definitely go back and stick with my favorites like chorizo and eggs and carnitas. The burrito was large and filling but lacked seasoning. I did love the fruit because it was all of my favorites, bananas , strawberries , cantaloupe.
First time coming here :) Went on a Friday around noon and there was no wait, host was nice and attentive. Ordered chilaquiles banda: 8/10 Ranchera breakfast skillet :7/10 Beans were amazing , added ham. My only note is that they had waaaay too much sauce in both dishes in my opinion. The sauces take away from the actual flavor of the meat and everything else which is already flavorful on its own. I think next time I'll just say very light on the sauce and they should be perfect. Will be back :)
Authentic Mexican food, exceptional service with a welcoming and professional attitude. One of the best Mexican breakfast spots in the area. What made this restaurant stand out was the staff and their teamwork. We were always asked for coffee, water and if our meals were to our liking. The menu is extensive and the food is authentic. We had the Chilaquiles Banderas with red and green salsa; which were perfect, not too dry, not soggy. We also had the Machaca burrito, which was delicious. And don't forget the flan, it's a recipe from the owner's abuelita (grandmother). Overall MexCocina Cafe is a must visit restaurant for an excellent Mexican meal. Parking is available in the lot or on the street. Seating is inside and outside. Note: Weekends are busy, expect to wait.
Mex cocina cafe has the best iced cafe de olla! The food is delicious, the service is even better. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The location is a bit small and tables fill up quick so come early. I personally love is better than amor a mi and cafe de olla.
This update is way overdue! Let me start off by saying that my family and I have been visiting this restaurant for about a decade now. Their impeccable service, authentic pozole, and delicious caldo de res always keep us coming back. I've tried their grilled chicken breast with garlic shrimp, chicken enchiladas, strawberry-banana-Nutella French toast, Abuelita hot chocolate pancakes, carne asada taco combo, pozole, caldo de res, regular horchata, and strawberry horchata. Let's start with the grilled chicken breast with garlic shrimp. The chicken breast itself had a nice, citrusy taste to it. It was moist, tender, and flavorful. The garlic shrimp were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The dish also included rice, beans, and nopal (cactus), which paired well with the chicken. Next up are the chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas were stuffed with shredded chicken and garnished with red sauce, sour cream, and mozzarella cheese. These also came with rice and beans. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of these enchiladas. The shredded chicken tasted very bland, and the red sauce didn't add much flavor either. Next up is the strawberry-banana-Nutella French toast. This consists of slices of French toast topped with strawberries, bananas, and Nutella, finished with powdered sugar and whipped cream, and served with syrup. Every single bite of this dish tasted like heaven. It was so good that I couldn't stop savoring it even long after I had finished it. Next up are the Abuelita hot chocolate pancakes. This is the first restaurant I've seen that offers such a combination. These pancakes are infused with Abuelita Mexican-style hot chocolate (rich, cinnamon-spiced chocolate). They were served with powdered sugar, whipped cream, and syrup on the side. This combination works wonders! All of these flavors were singing in my mouth. Next up is their Carne Asada Taco Combo, which also comes with rice and beans. I ordered carne asada as my protein. Unfortunately, the carne asada was bland. I tried adding salsa and lime to enhance the flavor, but even those weren't enough to make it taste better. Next up is their pozole! This is my favorite item on their menu. Pozole is a traditional Mexican hominy stew and is only served on weekends at this restaurant. It comes with a side of chips, onions, limes, shredded cabbage, and salsa. Their recipe is very authentic and absolutely delicious! I always highly recommend this dish to anyone who asks me where to find good pozole. Tip: If you're looking to order pozole on cold or rainy days, make sure you go early, as they tend to run out fast. Next up is their caldo de res (beef stew). This dish consists of beef broth, chunks of beef, and vegetables. It also comes with a side of salsa, onions, and limes. This beef stew is one of the best in the area. It's a very tasty and comforting choice, especially during cooler weather. This is my mom's and sister's favorite item. Next up is their horchata. I love a restaurant that serves good horchata, and this restaurant definitely has their recipe down. The horchata is perfectly balanced (not too sweet or cinnamon-heavy) and tastes homemade rather than from a powder. It's the perfect drink to balance the savory spice from their red salsa. Last but not least, their strawberry horchata. This is a whipped drink that features their horchata with strawberries mixed in. It's very refreshing, and the strawberry notes make it stand out from the regular horchata. Although this variation is quite good, I still prefer the regular horchata. This restaurant has a friendly, relaxed, and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for family meals, casual brunches, and laid-back lunches. As mentioned above, the service here is very close to flawless. The staff is warm and attentive, which adds to the comfortable ambiance. Kudos to the owner(s) and management for running this restaurant like a well-oiled machine! My family and I are always treated so well on every visit. As mentioned in my original review, the same complaints still exist. The parking structure is shared with other businesses and is very small, which makes parking difficult most of the time. Wait times tend to be anywhere from 20-30 minutes, depending on the time of day. Overall, this restaurant offers authentic Mexican cuisine, excellent service that's hard to find nowadays, and a very comforting atmosphere. I highly recommend their pozole. you won't be disappointed! service was great here very attentive staff and friendly. great pies on them when they sing a happy birthday song as well. parking not very nice nearby better to park on the street. food tasted pretty dang great. the green enchilada is the tastiest and closest to mom's I've ever had. horchata was ok and the omelette was nice. wasn't thrilled with the pancakes or soup, but I would still be back for more.
My friend took me to Mex Cocina Café in Burbank when I was seriously craving chilaquiles, and wow this place delivered. I ordered the Chilaquiles Bandera along with a café de olla, and everything was absolutely amazing. The chilaquiles were flavorful, perfectly cooked, and hit the spot in every way. The café de olla was rich, comforting, and the perfect complement to the meal. The ambiance was very homey and full of heart, with heart logos throughout that make the place feel extra special and welcoming. On top of that, the customer service was outstanding everyone was incredibly courteous, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. You can really feel the love they put into both their food and their space. If you're looking for a great spot for chilaquiles and authentic flavors, this place is a must. I'll definitely be back!
Firstly, I judge all Mexican restaurants by its rice and beans. If the rice and beans are dry and/or leftover, that sets the expectation for the rest of the meal. The rice and beans here are incredible. The rice is a family recipe of white rice that includes corn and peas. This is not your typical Mexican rice. It's better IMHO. Then the frijoles are hot and covered in Cotija cheese. Absolutely delicious. So I was already anticipating the main course, the Carne Asada and Cheese Enchilada. I probably should have left off the enchilada because it, by itself, was less than stellar. Good, just not great as I was expecting. The main dish, the Carne Asada, with fresh flour (or corn) tortillas and fresh pico de gallo, guacamole, and green salsa was ready to be devoured. The skirt steak was tender, cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and so incredibly delicious. Usually, you'd have to add the accoutrement to make the meat tasty but this Carne Asada is tasty all on its own. Their menu is so vast and varied, you'd have to eat here every day to get a sense of just how good it is. My suspicion is that it's all good or great. The service was wonderful with friendly servers and wait staff. We sat outside, which was our preference on this beautiful Burbank day. Burbank has lots of good food due to the presence of the movie and tv studios. Mex Cocina is just another of those joints that you don't want to miss if you live or work in this area. Warning: Parking may be difficult.
Visited: 7/28/24 I ordered the strawberry horchata, regular horchata, chilaquiles, and huevos rancheros (both with asada), and everything was absolutely delicious! This is easily the best Mexican restaurant I've been to. There was a bit of a wait to be seated and a line when we arrived, but it was 100% worth it for the food and drinks. We were seated outside, and it does get very crowded with tables close together, but once the food came out, none of that mattered. The drinks were amazing. Both the regular and strawberry horchata were great, but the strawberry was my favorite. I will definitely be coming back in the future!
I was craving breakfast, so we decided to try this place. It has a lot of positive reviews, and the presentation in the photos is honestly what drew us in. I really wanted to like it because the vibe is super cute. It has a cozy, traditional Mexican café feel with a slightly updated touch, and when the food came out, it looked really nice. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match. My plate came out first, and several minutes went by with no sign of my fiancée's food and no update, which felt a bit off. While we were waiting, I tried my food and it just didn't match how good it looked. The French toast was dry and honestly just tasted like plain bread, not French toast. The bacon was overcooked, and the hash browns were crispy on top but undercooked underneath, even though I had asked for them well done. We also had to follow up for water, and there was a small mix-up with drinks. I ordered a strawberry horchata, and while it looked like it would be refreshing (especially with the strawberry on top), it didn't really deliver. It was pretty grainy and you could barely taste the strawberry, which was disappointing since horchata can be really good when it's done right. The staff was kind, and the place itself has a great atmosphere, which is why this was disappointing. Since my fiancée's food still hadn't come out, we decided to cancel and head out. I really did want to love this place because it has a lot of potential. With a bit more consistency in the kitchen and service, it could be a great spot.
Pretty good brunch spot. Came on a Sunday around 1 pm for brunch; we had about 7 people in our party. We were accommodated pretty well and fairly quickly. Maybe we waited about 10 mins for a table because of the size of the location and lack of bigger tables, but it was not as bad of a wait as other brunch spots, so it was pretty quick. The location, like I said, is small and could use a huge upgrade given the popularity of the place but is not too bad.They do have some tables outside as well. Service was great, and despite a packed Sunday afternoon, we were not disappointed with the service or the quick delivery of the food. I ordered a carne that had green salsa on it. I forgot the name of it, but it was good. My wife got her chilaquiles, and my kids ordered the Mickey waffle. All the food was super good, and my green salsa was one of the greatest green salsas I had tasted, and it went well with my meat. I also ordered myself an iced coffee, and it was pretty good. I was very tired and needed a pick me upper, and I will say it did its job because it spiked me right up and made me ready for my day. The thing I don't like is that there are no refills on drinks; you have to buy another, so that jacks up the price a bit, but the food itself is not overly expensive. We enjoyed our Sunday brunch here and do look forward to coming back again to try some new brunch items.
I LOVE MEXCOCINA! Have visited countless times now, perfect spot for brunch with family. It's very traditional Mexican food & it's delicious. Staff are nice & friendly. Be weary that parking is limited, there's a small lot but it fills up quick, I usually will park on the street in the surrounding neighborhood if I can't find any there. My fav are the Chilaquiles Suizos, can never go wrong! It can get really packed on weekends so I usually call ahead to check on wait times. I can't recommend it enough!

Mex Cocina is a fabulous little restaurant in Burbank. It's consistent with its wonderful flavors. There is typically a wait (no reservations) for breakfast/brunch hours, but they have plenty of outdoor seating and the service is quick and efficient. They have an expansive menu so it can be overwhelming, but my favorites are their traditional Mexican dishes. The chilaquiles poblanos sans meat is my regular order. The flavor of that green sauce is to die for. I'm not much of a leftovers person but this is a meal I can reheat the next day and enjoy! read more

When I asked my friends for a solid brunch recommendation, they brought me to Mex Cocina Cafe... and it did not disappoint. My friends' go-to is the breakfast skillet, which was so hearty and flavorful. I ordered the French toast with Nutella, which came with eggs (over easy for me), bacon or sausage, and hash browns on the side. They did initially get my french toast order wrong (brought out bananas and strawberries with no Nutella) but they were super apologetic and quick to fix it, so no problem for me at all. The strawberry delight is just strawberry horchata with some coffee I think and it was a bit too sweet for us but that's just personal preference. I will say the wait can be a bit long, but there is a good amount of outdoor seating while you wait instead of having to stand and wait. Plus, the area is great for a post-brunch stroll, which made the whole experience feel like the perfect slow weekend day. read more

Found this place by doing a Yelp search. I had already been to Café de olla which is nearby but didn't want the long wait. The service was excellent and friendly. I sat outside and was immediately offered something to drink. I ordered the Chocolate Abuelita pancakes combo and they were delicious! I also had the cafe de olla and it was very good, just as the reviews stated. The place is cozy and they have low music playing. I enjoyed my food a lot but couldn't finish it all. Maybe I need to return and try other menu items, but overall the experience was just okay. The food was fine, not memorable. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately and asked for drink orders before even having a chance to look at the menu. I ordered both an iced and hot café de olla, which my partner and I felt were overly sweet. Less than a minute after receiving menus, the server returned to take our food order. Since it was my first visit, I asked for a moment. There was no wait or visible rush in the restaurant, yet less than 20 seconds later she returned again asking if we were ready. Feeling rushed, I opted for a safe choice. My partner ordered the bacon breakfast burrito, and I had the divorced chilaquiles with a side of chorizo. The breakfast burrito was mid, the cantaloupe in the fruit salad tasted freezer-burned, and the chilaquiles salsa leaned slightly salty. During the meal, no one checked in regarding refills, if we wanted water, or how the food was. It also took quite a while to receive the check. With no fans running, flies eventually landed on the food, which unfortunately ended the meal for me. The decor is cute, and there are both indoor and outdoor seating options, but the indoor space looked cramped. After reading other reviews, it's possible I visited on an off day or didn't order the best items. That said, the location does seem to have potential. read more

I absolutely love this place and so does all of Burbank, so expect a wait time. Bright side of being on the wait-list is that when your name is called the host always puts a fun twist on your name, usually a pop-culture reference. It's just a fun little quirk of this restaurant that I enjoy. This place is always packed and there are no reservations, so I recommend getting here early for breakfast. Street parking is usually a better bet than the small parking lot next to the restaurant. When you're being seated there's not usually much of a choice because it's always packed, but I prefer outdoor seating because it can get noisy inside. The food is delicious and the portions are big. I always get the chilaquiles verdes, but you can't go wrong with a stack of pancakes. For drinks I recommend a hot chocolate because I love a cozy classic, but this time I tried their chocolate horchata coffee. This coffee is definitely for people with a sweet tooth, so if that's not you maybe try their cafe de olla. The staff are all very warm and friendly too, always looking out for you. read more

Little Burbank gem with BIG heart. Exceptional Customer Service. It's as if the staff are happy and enjoy sharing the amazing food. Cute outdoor patio area. Right concept. Cute spot. Great service, but the chilaquiles verdes were a little too bitter in my opinion. The machaca had too much fat/chewy pieces.Tried to love de cafe de olla but the condiments were overly powerful especially the cinnamon, it's too "agarrosa" making the coffee too bitterly sweet.. if that makes sense. I was shocked how horrible the food was. Normally you see lines coming out of this place so I was expecting some amazing food. I got far from that. We ordered the pork verde omelette and Nutella banana pancakes. My toast wasn't toasted but cold white bread, the cheese in my omelette wasn't melted and the veggies were still raw, pancakes were like rubber, cold and tuff and had a HAIR in it! Disappointed! Told the waitress and she didn't remove the pancakes from the check like she said she would. Will never go back! Update.... Thank you for reaching out as the Manager. Nobody introduced themselves as the manager...nobody came to ask how they could make it right or apologized. We actually got a cold response from a male employee when we waved him down and asked for the water that came after we asked multiple times. The pancakes were not removed from the check. The order was changed to "custom item" and we were charged 10.99 for the pancake plate. So your employee took off $5 dollars off the plate for food we didn't eat. The only edible food that came was the scrambled eggs that came with the pancakes. So we paid $45 for 2 scrambled eggs!...As long time Burbank residents who frequent and support mom and pop restaurants, this restaurant was a disappointment. read more

The coffee is delicious and refills are included which i was happy for and thankful. The food looks good in the pic but even better in person! There can be a wait but it's worth it. We came back after a little over a year! We decided to stop by on a Sunday and yes there was a wait! So please be ready to wait a bit, but I promise you the food has gotten better! We ordered the chilaquiles suizos and the chipotle ones! They both had a good kick to them and the chips were nice and crispy! I've been dreaming about their brunch since we went. Their cafe de olla is on the sweeter side so if you want a darker blend opt in for their regular coffee. I can't wait to come back and try their pancakes and other menu items. read more

I was expecting authentic Mexican food. I went with machaca chilaquiles rojos. Honestly the sauce wasn't spicy or savory. Very plain red sauce. And they added too much to a point where the tortilla chips became soggy :/ The machaca wasn't machaca. What I got was soft shredded beef. Usually machaca has a jerky like consistency. Which wasn't even close to it. I was charged almost $6 extra for adding machaca. The portion didn't match the quantity that I received sadly. The white/yellowish rice that came on the side had clumps in it which made it a little chewy. Didn't like that so I didn't finish it. Not worth $21! My bf got the Mexican omelette with a side of potato's. The potato's weren't crispy they were kinda oily. We got our food within 10 mins of it ordering which was pretty fast I'd say. Thats why I gave it two stars. BUT sadly the food didn't cut it. It's not enough for me to come back. read more

My favorite spot for authentic Mexican Food in Burbank! Jaliscan style! The staff gets to know you and treats you like family, you're sure to have great service. Truly no complaints. Finally got a chance to try this place out. They are always packed for breakfast/brunch on the weekends, so for today no wait time :) We sat outside but they also have inside seating. We were sat promptly and asked what we would like to drink. They quickly brought out our beverages. The iced cafe the olla was really tasty, sweet and cinnamon-y! Had to go with the chilaquiles options on their menu but they have a lot of options... sweet, savory, Mexican, and American classics. We ordered the: - Chilaquiles Verdes - Chilaquiles a la Bandera (red and green sauce) For an additional cost you can add meat to them like steak, chorizo, machaca, etc. Food was brought out fairly quickly and we dug on in. The rice is fluffy and the beans are good. Both sauces are not spicy but have a nice flavor and slight kick to them. Both plates had a good amount of meat to them too. The plates were fully loaded and delicious. Servers checked on us frequently and were very friendly. Definitely recommend. read more

This place is a hidden gem with amazing service, lightning-fast food, and one of the best café de olla I've ever had (like, *life-changing* good). My family each thought their meal was delicious and incredibly savory. Im planning to try something new each time I return. I've wanted to say nice things and review MexCocina since the first time I sat down and sipped their sweet cafe de olla. That was some 4 years ago, BC (Before COVID). In my recent visit, I was pleased to see MexCocina had grown so much! MexCocina is well worth your effort parking in the adjacent neighborhood - if you have to. Or waiting for a table - again, if you have to, but their growth has only added more tables while the stellar service remains just as amazing as it was years ago. Food: Delicious. You're going to want the cafe de olla along with your breakfast. Personally, I've always been a sucker for chilaquiles and MexCocina doesn't disappoint. Service: Stellar. The staff works well together to maintain full coffee cups and satisfied customers. Food and beverages arrive promptly, and the staff are all very friendly and super attentive. Ambiance: Cozy. I've sat inside with family, and outside several times. Either behind the patio shade, or al fresco a la Burbank! Spend your morning or afternoon with MexCocina and you're in good hands. The huevos divorciados, could be my favorite of two salsas... green and red. The best waitresses, and funny. I liked that there was both outdoor seating & indoor seating and the decor. Easily the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in LA! Our family was craving chilaquiles for brunch, and after a few disappointing experiences at other spots, this place truly stood out. We only waited about 15 minutes to be seated, and the service was friendly and attentive from the start. The food? Absolutely delicious. The chilaquiles hit the spot, and the horchata café is a must-try--it was incredible. From start to finish, everything about our visit was enjoyable. No we don’t , we have chocolate abuelita and strawberry shortcake.
Do you allow dogs on outside seating?
They do have limited outside seating where they allow dogs.

It's part of a mini mall, so mostly it is street parking. It looked safe for a Sunday midday.

Hi, yes they are vegetarian. I've worked at mexcocinacafe, and they do not use lard for neither their beans or rice.

No we don't use Lard ! Our rice and beans are vegetarian
