The most amazing tortas in San Jose! I love the Milenesa Torta, which is a breaded steak sandwich and is loaded with cheese, tomato, and avocado. So flavorful and savory with every bite. The Cubana features ham and mildly spicy chorizo and is also a delicious choice. The torta portion size is huge! I am unable to finish one sitting and it's definitely a shareable option between 2 people. Price is well worth the value. I come into the shop with amazement in my eyes due to their array of baked goodies, such as pan dulces, donuts, and cookies. So many to choose from! The Chocoflan is one of my all-time favorite desserts. It has such a nice blend of sweetness, creaminess, and the chocolate cake on the bottom retains moisture so well. IMHO - Covid Edition My sister wanted a Tres Leches Cake for her birthday. My daughter-in-law recommended Mexico Bakery! Fortunately it is located just 5 minutes away from me, in the Home Depot mini mall. I went at a time when I thought it wouldn't be crowded...3:30 p.m. on a Friday. Inside there was a socially distanced line, with a few other people waiting to the side for their orders. I had no idea what a Tres Leches cake looked like so I asked the lady in line behind me. The bakery has two huge refrigerated display cases jam-packed with beautifully decorated cakes and pastries. When it was my turn, I placed my order and handed the young lady a post-it note with the message I wanted on the cake. Five minutes later, my decorated Tres Leches cake was ready! The 8" round cake came to $27. The online price was more, so I was pleasantly surprised! My sister loved the cake! It was delicious, sweet and moist! One of the worst experiences I have had anywhere. I ordered 4 burritos, while I was the only person in the place. I waited 40 minutes for them to tell me they have no rice. I asked if I could get a discount since they do not have rice and did not tell me. I also asked if I could get tacos instead. They said no. I asked for a refund and they took another 10 minutes to try and process it at which point I could not waste any more of my time and have to just take it up with my credit card provider. I did not get a sorry or any compromise. Seemed like they had no common decency. I hate to talk down on a local business, but this place does not deserve your money. Honestly very upset. read more

I have wanted to go to this place for a year now ever since my good friend Josh has described to me the glorious item this establishment provides: the torta milanesa. Luckily after a long hike, I was actually around the area and wanted to finally try this place out. Upon arriving here at around 1 PM, there actually was not that many people. It wasn't until after we put our order in that there was a line that was starting to form. BTW, when you look at the menu, there is actually no tortas that are mentioned. You have to bring it up to them. The other torta my friend told me they have is also a ham and cheese torta and a breakfast torta as well. Now for the food!! Their torta milanesa is such a great sandwich with sooo many fillings. I was kind of surprised that the whole thing was $12.50 but when you receive it, you'll start to understand why. You get a couple of thick pieces of meat, with huge slices of white cheese, vegetables, AND, heaping amount of guacamole! This torta is still heavy but also light due to the vegetables but I definitely would prefer to add more since the meat does over power it. Had a chance to try the famous Mexico Bakery this past week and overall liked the experience. I have to say when we got here, which was a Thursday night around 6:30ish this place was pretty crowded with a line that went through the restaurant. Thankfully the line moved pretty quickly. When i got there it was really cool to see all the different desserts and pastry options - everything looked yummy! However I ended up ordering: *Milanesa Torta - this was my favorite dish and I loved every bite. This sandwich came with fried breaded beef - thin pieces but very flavorful, avocado, onions & a fat slice of queso. All the flavors went really well together *Torta Cubana - this torta was okay - it came with egg, ham, chorizo &sausage and was really filling. I liked it but definitely liked the Milanesa more *Choco-Flan - I really enjoyed this dessert as it was not too sweet. THe top was flan while the bottom was moist chocolate cake. It was the first time trying this dish but I really enjoyed it! *plain glazed donut - Soft, yummy and delicious. My first time here was prior to COVID-19 after a co-worker recommended this place for its tortas. On that visit I ordered the Asada torta and was pleased to see the torta stacked high with meat. It was a huge torta! I was not able to finish the whole thing, so I kept the other half for dinner. I recently visited during the pandemic and noticed that there were no markers for a line or to social distance. Everyone was in a cluster close to the register. I felt discouraged to stay and order food, but I went ahead and ordered the Cubana & Asada torta. Both tortas were stacked with several pieces of meat. The tortas are good but the bread got soggy by the the time I got home to eat it. Each torta was between $10-$12 before taxes. This bakery also carries a variety of Mexican bread and to my luck they carried a specialty bread I could not find in my neighborhood. They carry pan dulce, galletas, pasteles, flan, and so much more. They have a good selection of bakery items. I ordered several pieces of pan dulce, flan in a cup, choco flan (recommend it), and a Vampiro juice. The price of the juice was higher than at other places I have been too ($6+ for a medium). This bakery has it all! A wide variety of bakery items, tortas, juices, and they even sell milk, tortillas, and eggs (small section)! The service is efficient even if you must wait to order because it is always busy. Definitely a must try in San Jose! read more

This is only for the breaded steak torta which was a delivery to a workplace. One word best describes this sandwich: "Gi-nor-mous." Having visiting a client in Fremont and unfamiliar with the local favs for lunch, my host always comes up with some great places for good eats! Here at the Story Rd location they don't skimp on the ingredients with the sliced jalapeños still popping in my mouth. I only wish they provided more napkins as once you take several bites, the sandwich gets messy! Parking is easy since it is located in a plaza. Interior is nice and clean, pretty spacious too. The staff was helpful! Brought it to a birthday dinner and the cake was delicious!!!! The bread 9 times out of 10 is sooooooo good!!! It's difficult to find good "pan dulce" (Mexican Sweet Bread). This place is well stocked, they have a large selection, they hardly ever run out. I'm usually there late on Sundays like between 8pm-10pm late and they are still stocked, still fresh, still open! The only time I wasn't happy was 1 out of like 10 visits I've had, they didn't have my fav: "cuernito de dulce" (sweet horn) on the shelf, I asked the girl (I could tell she was new bc she kept asking for help) and she was told there was some in the back (which happens often, and that's ok bc I show up late). The girl found the bread but I noticed when I got home that it had no powdered sugar and it was burned. Again, I could tell she was new so I gave it a pass, no harm, no foul. My boyfriend and I were craving mexican food and found this spot. The spot is like a cafe with only 3 tables. They had a massive assortment of baked desserts lined up for display. I ordered the chorizo torta and my boyfriend ordered the cubano torta. First thing we noticed when pulling these sandwiches out of the bag is that they are massive with sandwiches stuffed full. The ground sausage meat was fairly salty and seasoned heavily. But I like my food on the more flavorful side so that was good for me. There's a decent amount of fresh ingredients in the sandwich but the ground meat was pretty overpowering. Some additional fresh and pickled vegetables in the sandwich would have been great. I've never had tortas before and this was the place that everyone said to go to! The bakery itself was really spacious inside and had a lot of pastries and baked goods. We ordered on the big kiosk screen that was on the side of the line. No one was using it surprisingly. We got the Cubana Torta, Tres Leches cake, and a Concha. We waited about 15 minutes for the food to come out. While we waited, one of the staff was giving out free cookies which was really nice of them. The torta was really flavorful and I enjoyed the different textures in the sandwich and it was humongous!! Can definitely eat for two meals. However, I do wish it was a little more saucy. It was kind of dry and it made it a little hard to eat. The Tres Leches cake was moist, but just a tad too sweet for my preferences. The concha was really good and not too sweet. The red gel in between one of their coconut red desserts was so dry it had practically all dried up. The cookies were so dry they crumbled up when I bit into all of them!! However if you're looking for a super Duper delicious huge torta, then this is your spot! So far it's the best start that I ever had I'm not sure why I haven't yelp this previously because I've been going here for a few years. When I say huge, It's huge! As you can see it's filled with four layers of Carne Asada kind more well done than I prefer, nonetheless it's still a delicious torta! Fresh queso fresci and can be a little messy with all the avocado, so get lots of napkins. If you go during primetime expect a long wait.
