Ceviche supposedly sour, but this was sweet with unripe tomatoes and unripe avocado.. had to asked for lime for me to be more edible.. had the mole chicken.. the chicken was dry Costco has a better rotisserie chicken cuz they are moist.. this one was so dry and they put the supposedly mole sauce in the bottom.. the sauce and be integrated into the meat... the chicken did not have any seasoning.. it was sooo bland. I ordered the red snapper. I got a small piece of the red snapper meat that was grilled. The fish is old tasting and has no seasoning also. The ambiance is amazing....but loud. The drinks were spot on. The food....nothing to write home about. I wanted it to be so much better than it was. The food presentation was really nice but the taste was just sub par. They start you with a plate of chips and salsas.....good but HOT! We then had pineapple mango salsa which was SUPER creamy but didn't have much taste at all. The hubs had enchilada with chicken which were really good. I had tacos al pastor....but it was chicken. The chicken was dry, overly spicy (and I like heat) and it had an after taste of old lady. Sweet plantains were good but loaded with queso that it didn't need. I went to this place with my girlfriend last week. This is a fairly new restaurant, and it was quite busy. If you didn't have a reservation, you're going to wait a while. When I got there, I did not have a reservation, they told me it would be about 25 minutes. I stood waiting for an hour, finally I said to the young lady who took my reservation when I got there please give me an update, I've been waiting a very long period of time, and you had told me 25 minutes. She looked confused, they didn't have my reservation for some reason anymore, and after I asked, now they decided to see me. I think they were just a little overwhelmed at the reservation area. Anyhow, the place was decorated very nicely, I actually loved the decor. The food was pretty good, the drinks were definitely more on the expensive side. I really wanted to love it but throughout the entire dinner they kept reminding me that it wasn't worth spending $350 a couple... 1- we get there and want a drink at the bar but they say no and we have to have a reservation. The bar had so much room and they wouldn't even let us stand to get a drink. Since when is a bar not first come first serve? We walked into the bar area (a few seats were open and plenty of standing room, they found us and asked us to leave. So strange. It was freezing outside and couldn't stand there waiting so we walked about a half mile to another bar and they lost out on a few hundred dollars from our group. Fix the bar situation - most people want to get a drink before dinner. 2- our group of 6 got sat at a table for 2. Literally. We were so crammed in I felt like we were at a fast food restaurant. No room for plates, drinks, anything, it was so awkward for us. We kept having to combine dishes and eating off appetizer plates because we just couldn't fit anything. 3- we had so many different people waiting on us that they kept asking us the same questions and we had to keep telling them, someone already took out drink order, someone asked us about apps etc. also like three chips served with guac and salsa. Weird serving size issues and has to ask for many refills just to each have one or two chips as an appetizer. 4- restaurant is gorgeous but if you want a vibe , play some good music, dim the lights etc. so bright in there. 5- dinner gets served - no utensils in sight....sitting there waiting until someone finally came over. 6- the biggest mood kill was just as we're about to eat dinner (around 9pm mind you) someone starts vacuuming around the eating area with a Dyson. Like the restaurant is completely full on a Saturday night and someone thinks it's okay to start vacuuming? The management team needs to get their shit together. i really wanted to give this place 5 stars. we had a reservation for 8 and didn't get sat until 8:30 after having to continuously remind them we were waiting i felt like they were passing us up on purpose? idk weird vibe there - you CANNOT HANG OUT AT THE BAR! which i understand it becoming crowded may be a problem but they're loosing so much additional money this way - if i could have hung there before and after my reservation i would have spent more. not enough space heaters outside so a ton of ppl were crammed into the front foyer waiting for their reservation. the menu was a great selection - lots of unique items i enjoyed everything i ordered. the service was poor - there was language barrier and she didn't really try and help us communicate with her better / didn't hear half of what i was trying to order / ask - didn't check on our table to see if we wanted more drinks, or again, i would have spent more time and money. no dessert cocktails which bugs me!! like you KNOW everyone is looking for a selection in this category - hopefully they see this and get one out there. i'd consider coming back but im not rushing. i want to hang at the bar at my leisure - doesn't everyone else? read more

I've been here two weekends in a row; Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day. The service was excellent both times, despite the crowds. I appreciate a hand crafted cocktail that's not only tasty but beautifully made and the bartenders do both. The food is good, I had the Barbacoa Tacos, chicken soup, and churros (a must try). I called one Friday afternoon to try and make a reservation on a busy night. Unfortunately for us, they couldn't accommodate us for the time that we wanted but the person on the other end was super pleasant and super friendly and suggested that we come in anyways on a walk in basis assuring us that the wait time won't be too long. Sure enough, we waited less than 5 minutes and were sat outside. The whole ambiance of the restaurant almost transports you to another place. The foliage and greeneries that surrounds the outdoor seating areas really is reminiscent of a tropical paradise. You're in Meximodo so you can't not have a tequila drink so I tried one of the house margaritas and opted for the mango flavored one. It was a good tasting drink, but I must say that the presentation was very pretty. All of the food presentations were very pretty. We started with the mango guacamole for appetizers and each of us ordered different tacos. I tried the steak tacos and unfortunately, for me, it was a little dry. The sauce that it came with didn't really help much, but the flavors were definitely there. I'll definitely be back to try other food on their menu (a little pricey menu) and specially now that I know they serve brunch. All in all, between the staff and the vibes, it was a very good dining experience (with a fabulous entertainment because it was Metuchen pride). read more

Lovely restaurant. Excellent cocktails and food was flavorful and very authentic (I have eaten a lot of Mexican food). The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, not hesitating to get an answer if they needed to. The space is really a knockout. Drinks nicely balanced and expertly made. We enjoyed the variety of guac, Ceviche was fresh & tangy, barbacoa tacos were very tasty, with a depth of flavor in the sauce. We also liked the enchiladas verdes. I could have gone for more authentic Mexican music vs the generic Latin-style tunes one usually hears...but that's a minor quibble. But it would really boost the atmosphere a notch. Food: 3/5 the drinks and the dessert were the best part of the meal! We had the corn flan and churros. And all the drinks we tried were PHENOMENAL! But the apps and the main course were just ok. Starting with the guac we had the corn and roasted tomato guacamole, which tasted nice but there was an addition of truffle oil on the guacamole which was not indicated on the menu. Thankfully it wasn't an overpowering flavor but it definitely had an overpowering smell. So if you don't like truffle oil, this is definitely not a guacamole that you would want to get. That being said, you should ask if all the guacamole comes a truffle oil because it wasn't indicated on menu. Our table also got the pork belly tacos and the shrimp tacos. The flavor of the tacos were good; however, I'm not entirely sure it was made fresh. The food did not come out hot just lukewarm. All in all of the appetizers and the main course were phenomenal and if I were to come back again it would be mainly for the drinks and the desserts. Ambiance: 5/5 it was beautiful inside! The evening started with our waiter asking if we wanted drink recommendations. He began recommending many drinks to my fiance and I could not hear him. He then went to me and said "and for a girl I would recommend this one". We ordered the steak and cheese tacos and the barracuda tacos. The barracuda tacos were very very dry and flavorless. The steak and cheese were better but there are many places to get better tacos in the area. The check came and an automatic 3% "convenience fee" was added to the bill. It was 20 degrees out and non of us were dressed properly to stay outside. We were brought in finally and given a table for 3 for a party of 4. Drinks were so over priced the food had little flavor. We waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes to get a table after making a reservation 3 days in advance. The seating managers accepted that we had a reservation but could/would not give us a table. The decor and atmosphere is very trendy, but the food is very overpriced for the actual quality of it. I'm somewhat conflicted about this place. I had dinner here tonight with my wife for the first time. The ambiance of the place was very nice and the inside is classy. The service was very good. We really liked the freshly made complimentary chips and condiments they came with. The drinks were also good. I found the entrees somewhat underwhelming. The portions are small but adequate. The food menu has a limited number of entrees. I had the snapper, one of the more expensive dishes on the menu, and it was fine although I would have preferred it not be fried. My wife had the shrimp tacos and she said they were good but I could tell she wasn't that excited about them. I think the appropriate overall rating would have been about 3 1/2 stars. I will try this again, but if I really was craving just the food and not the drinks or ambiance, I'd probably try somewhere else. read more
